As for gameplay it was just do damn grindy for me and required teaming to complete certain quests.
Still it remains the game that invented F2P and shows that graphics aint everything to hit a massive group of players (and keep em busy). And unlike NCsoft, they are still very active on the European market (though some of their games are published by locals).

Because anno 2012 nobody needs to compete with WoW anymore, WoW gained his playerbase years ago and will only live upon these gathered players. The only competition they can setup, would be an attempt to nick away a few folks from their shrinking playerbase.

Many MMO's have this situation, GW1, Elder, LA1/2, they only live on their current playerbase, as long you keep them happy and they stay, you are happy.

Simple, you ever seen new players comming to WoW at the rate as current new titles do? Not likely, they hardly get any new subs, they only keep their current busy and hope they stay around.
  3. Slowly we are heading towards the very last day we can walk in a city called 'home'.

It is not the first time i have to go through a final day of a game, nor it will be my last, but CoH hits me way harder then probably any game i've played that has shut down (or has to).

I went through my memories of other fallen games, some will happy ends, some with very sad ends, then i remembered NCsoft's other game: Tabula Rasa.

Those who have played it, as i very enjoyed the game, might also remember the last few hours on the server, going back to earth and fight one last time. Those very last hours were for many completly destroyed by the simple fact, the server couldnt handle anymore.

Massive lag, disconnects, even channels/worlds dropping every few minutes, dying and unable to get up anymore.

Then i worry, will CoH suffer the same fate? Unplayable, crashing and queue's all around us?
Many want to stay to the very last second, but will we even be able to?
  4. If only i had a glimp of your skills making such video's, i probably could give my characters a goodbye.

But as your video says, they might take away the game, but they will never take my memories of the game.

Great video, i really love that hallway full of all the heroes.
  5. The problem with several MMO's who try to grab the best of each MMO and put it into one game, it eventualy wont fit together. The theme isnt right, the system doesnt work properly, the combat is borked, the balance is out.

But one thing i dont want to see again is the simpliticy of Holy Trinity, CoH broke through this basic system by combining 4 aspects of the default 2 (healing&tanking), by adding buffing and debuffing.

And its that, that makes CoH way more enjoyable. Its not some dungeon with 3 adds that can 1 shot basicly everything in sight, its the combined effort of offense and defense that makes you win or loose, mass defeat mobs or focus on a single one, the insane diversity you can put into the combat with 8 people and finish of the goal of the mission, hardly no game ever done that on such scale.

And if i ever would read news about CoH2, i feel worried, alot. GW1 was among one of the most unique MMO's out there, but with GW2 they shattered all the aspects that would be 'see, this is GW', dumbed down to some generic MMO with a few 'oh cool' flavored features that at the end are more fun to play with at start, but after a month get boring as hell.
  6. The thing i just dont understand after saying 'exausted all options', why not give a single interview to any gamesite on the planet? If they are so certain its going down, why wont they just go out and tell so in interviews?

One option is to keep everything on a low profile and let the game shut down quietly, 1,5month passed and maybe the big sites wont put any effort anymore to get interviews..
  7. The part from 5.26 is pure awsomeness, at that point i questioned myself: Are these tears of joy or sadness.. i just dont know.
  8. I've played sooo many MMO's, still play quite alot actualy.
Each got its pro's, but each also got its con's.

A true substitude for CoH that is recent? There is none. Either the combat is very bad (CO), the whole system is plain weird or very little costumisation (DCU), it has a awsome setting but very bad mechanics (TSW), or well.. its just not the same genre (insert basicly any other MMO).

Quite a few MMO's now have seperate US and EU sides, Tera and Aion as big names, so outside your casual gametimes, it get quiet pretty fast, specialy if you made the wrong choice of server (yes, even GW2 already have these issues).

Ironic, my next awaiting MMO is yet NCsoft again, Blade&Soul. It kinda mix up alot of aspect of few games out now, Tera, C9, Vindictus, BoI, etc, but i have little faith this game will be released anywhere soon in Europe.

Sadly, i just cant find any MMO that has the same mechanics as CoH has how easy it is to play with other people, dispite their level, dispite their class or class. You just give out a shout and off you go to random instances, not some preset fixed dungeon stuff you fight the same boss over and over, by the exact same mechanics or tactics.

If only other games would have taken example of CoH, their system, their setup, their combat or even the powerability (powerupgrade instead of gear) and combine it into some stuff that .. ah screw it, nothing can replace CoH on that mather.
  9. I really have to start spamming to reach that in time
  10. They said..

WoW could replace it, Aion could, SW:TOR, Tabula, TSW, WH, LotRo, Tera, DCU, CO, STO, GW2, FF14, or any other MMO that i currently forgot.. then why i still play CoH? (i played all of these and way more).

It never could replace, it only could 'add' to what i already had. The only game ever that could meet up the awsome community was FWO, wich closed few years after CoH was released, CoH replaced FWO for me.

GW2 is fun, but the 'interaction' with the community is far far far less, events you just wack along others you dont even know the name off, with a few that you go 'ooh i've seen you before!'. But what i see in GW2, is nothing more then a mire shadow of what GW1 once was. I'm a huge fan of GW1, Luxon vs Kurzick pvp characters, doing guild stuff to own a town, spending hours finetuning your build, doing instances/dungeons with a min/maxed team, all that GW2 has not.
  11. But look at how NCsoft is looking at the CoH-players now..

1 side they want to keep this game alive no mather one, but on the other hand they already discussing class-action lawcases to get their money back. You think that would help on pushing NCsoft to keep the game up?
  12. I only got a short question actualy, but with a big story around it :P
In all my years, i remember 1 specific mission, believe it was in PI and the map was full of ghosts. You had to find a note, that note was basicly the most memorable text i've seen in CoH.

    The text:

My simple question, was this mission just 'randomly' made or had it a bigger story?
(i know its just a simple mission, but i never will forget the first time reading it).

Wasnt Cryptic already at Atari, then they sold it to PWE?

Still, selling a game (or any form to publish it again) is easier then selling a company with its employees. Maybe they can sell the IP, but they cant sell the engine, all NCsoft has to offer is the IP, the company and its community, but they lack the fundamental part.. the game engine.

So the only company who perhaps can buy IP of CoH (and its content) would be PWE, as they are owner of the engine. Even then they would buy the game, but often not the staff behind it, maybe they would re-hire some of the peeps, but face it.. animators are animators, artists are artists, though peeps at Paragon might have been great and awsome, doesnt mean PWE doesnt have sortlike people in their development-department.

But as PWE has CO, offcourse they wouldnt buy up CoH, that would basicly kill off their bought game (cryptic was CO, secondair Atari). So we got in between and got squashed.

PWE didnt had any hero/space MMO when they bought Cryptic, now they have.. they have way less interest in CoH (though i still hope they would buy it..)
  14. It was kinda easy to kick against the marketing part of Paragon, i never knew who was behind it, so i just did my angry thing and called you guys stupid.

How different it is, once u see who's behind it, who's doing the job that has to be done, be it hard or very hard. (i gues very hard, not a big budget on marketing i asume?)

Still sad CoH never came to Gamescom, Europe was kinda 'left alone' after Brighton closed, looking back.. i dont blame anyone.

Nevertheless, you rock (get it, pebble, rock.. funny? .. nvm) big time!

    Until we meet again,
I'll be lurking your twitter, i'm positive that things you put your hands on, along with the awsome team you have (had.. but i dont like to say that word), it will turn into something awsome.

Its like you are the 'Posi' in Positive, the 'posi' in Posible (yeah im dutch, i can remove a S from that), making things possible that were said being impossible, but most of all, you are the 'Posi' of Positron, a name that i always remember thinking back about CoX.

Sidenote.. Season 7 of Doctor Who started.. that Fez is soooo 2011.
  16. I can only say:
Thank you entire CoH and Paragon Studio Staff, thank you for the best MMO experience i've ever had.

But most of all, thank you for giving us Granite Armor and thank you for making Ghost Widow.

    Slow updater?

Decided to give CoH a go once again, but is it normal the updater wont go beyond 53ish KB/sec? Just downloaded the GW2 at a whooping 4,2MB/sec, steam CS:GO likewise.. CoH goes 50KB/sec on file 1/51 (stage2.pigg.PATCHED)

Isnt there any full-mirror available to get instead? At this rate i still have 1267 minute remaining..

The youtube trailer of 'Issue 22 is live' clearly shows staff melee at the end, that looks really confusing discovering it aint in the game yet. Why put it in the movie in the first place if it 'was never scheduled to go live with I22' in the 'I22 goes live trailer'?

I havent set all powers against current sets, was just giving a gues on the 'slow style' of TW. Just that i'm having a harder time building up Fury fast on my Broadsword then with my claw (slow vs fast).
  20. My most recent is a elec/axe tank, i tried several elec/ tanks (SS, KM, fiery and elec) but couldnt really find a nice secondairy set. As i already have a inv/axe and axe really gives that 'whooomp' feeling, decided to give this set a try, kinda based on my BS/elec brute.

    Tanks that i currently have
    stone/SS
    fire/EM
    fire/elec
    shield/fire
    shield/elec
    elec/KM
    ice/ice
    ice/DB
    inv/axe
    inv/DB
    dark/dark
    WP/dark
    WP/DB
    WP/fire
    WP/stone

and probably i forgot a few more, vary from lvl12 upto 50.

Thats just a minor tweak to demotivate the 'easy farmers'. If they would really want to pick out those 'heavy farmers', they would make way more drastic changes, this is just to demotivate most people from going AE or spamming atlas for LFFF!!!

The 'hardcore farmers' remain doing so, in the years their xp/min hardly changed, i think it even went up alot. (incarnate, brute, IO's, AE, etc etc).

Perhaps Brute > Scrapper in this case (maximize WP).

I think you want to avoid clicky secondaries so maybe that's the nod to WP over EA.
But is Fury generation 'normalised' through all powers? If initiatly most powers have 2-5 sec cast time, your Fury bar will take ages to fill up (assume u hardly getting hit).

But WP afaik has same base values, that would only to push up the cap value of resistance? (wich you only get during the T9 clicky).

WP has the least 'clickies', giving you hardly no weapon redraw (except hasten and T9). Second best i would say Inv and elec, very tough sets and both only 1 clicky next to their T9 clickly (wich you use quite alot less then WP version).

    This ^^

Many builds still can be pretty viable just with SO's (or common IO's), a tray of insperations and its all fun. My 46 kin/fire is fully SO-based, he can farm pretty decent on warriors (or alike) missions.

You can slowly work up your way for set IO's, cheap ones first, later the more fun ones.

anthing/fire brute or fire/anything tank are also fairly cheap initialy, from 28/22 you can pretty much start soloing AE's (fire based) with just some inspirations as backup. From there you can make the build as expensive as you want, they still do just perfectly fine.

And yes, AE getting another nerf soon (ambush will have reduced exp per wave), but it wont hurt you that much if you are used to regular group-to-group farms.

Without making a comparison to the weapon animations of other games, what are you wanting to see? Complaining about such things, without suggesting alternatives, is just complaining.
My original post about Dual Blades has been removed because it contained links to movies and images of other games, so my main reason not to show any related animations of the other mentioned games.

Though funny you say other games have no 'attractive or realistic' animations, but can you say the same about Titan weapon animations? Both Aion as Tera (female, 2h axe) show pretty good details that it even take effort to start swinging the weapon, including the big 'whoomp' when gravity takes its part on slamming the weapon into the ground. The melee attacks from Tera even show it better, each swing is related to the previous move, you cant just instantly swap your weapon to another side or in different pose, they animated all movements in the swings.

Clearly your 'taste' is different then mine, little i can do about that.

  25. Ok, i wont make friends with this, but still..

What very very very very dissapointing animations this set will get.

Titan weapon, but the moves are nothing more then a 'assasinstyle prepare' and then a quick move, nothing 'tinanish' about this.

If anyone knows Seigfried from Soul Calibur, Warrior from Cabal Online, Beserker from Tera Online or Gladiator from Aion Online, those are the same kind of weapons, with 1000 times better animations and moves. Not some stupid prepare animation and some quick swipes, but trough the entire animation you really see them whielding a huge heavy weapon. You literly feel the impact of a huge axe/sword smashing into the group, you see their struggle to raise the weapon up in the sky to let it drop and cause mayhem.

edit, i assume the stupid 'assasinate style chargeup' is the system of the fast-cast version while having that momentum running, cheap, stupid and lame.

I really these animations are not the final ones, i had really high hopes on these.. but this is a huge dissapointment.

Some people might not care about nice animations, but for me.. all the previous released 'unique' sets are dull, simple and boring. The only exception might be DP (the shadow-style move), but the added animations on existing sets, beam rifle or DB, dull, simple and ugly.
