why does every constinuously bang on about fire have aoes, fire/ has 1 more aoe than ice/ and considering pvp blasting is mostly about secondary thats not really a problem

Damage is one... but -slow -recharge and its holds are the part where they beat fire. And the minor faster animations (specialy vs flares) makes it overal a bit better. -
That is the way how i got my inv tanker past 22. With the free respec as backup, i slotted all my resist powers 5 DO resist and 1 Endred. Ya, my attacks most were 1 or 2 slotted, but i was running around with resist as of a SO-user.
Downside, Those who dont have the free respec are forced to take a respec mission just to clear those 6slotted shields (most need 5 max, often just 4 - minor case 3).
And outside that, avoid large teams. My most teams were 3-5 players max, with a healer or a extra tanker around. Even past 22 a fire tanker for example still cant take that much beating or runs out of end in mather of seconds (even at 32 its still hard to fit all the required powers in). Likewise the stone tanker, they need to be carefull untill higher lvl.
Also, check what mobs you fight. Dont go Vahz often, dont go Clockwork without nrg-resist/defence. -
The only good tankin MM would be /dark one, so u got lucky
I only use guard when firing of my Arrow-chain, after that most mobs cant even stand up to hit me and my pets finish em off.
As for PvP, a AS (or critical BU->headsplitter) can blow your lowest pets to nearly dead already, 1 power more and you loose them already. i'm not sure if guardmode still works once you get hold, in that line /forcefield would be minor bit better, though he has no heal. (bots/FF would seem best, since you have 2 healingbots).
Provoke is a single target, challenge is a little aoe one. Tough both have tohit check and have very little duration. -

Due happy double exp weekend i bumbed my AR/ice from 22 upto 27, it becomes a quite enjoyable toon to play with (kinda par with nrg/ice).
So i have:
AR
Burst (acc/3xdmg)
Slug (acc/3xdmg/rech)
beanbag (acc/2x rech)
Sniper (acc/3xdmg/rech)
Flametrower (acc/2xdmg)
Ignite (acc/2xdmg)
Ice
Chillblain (acc - gonna slot more)
Ice Sword (acc/3xdmg)
Chillin Embrace (1x EndRed)
Buildup (3x rech)
Ice patch (1x rech - going for 3)
Fitness set and CJ (jump, lvl27 and no travelpower yet)
With BU->snipe you take 1, followup by burst/slug and 2nd is down. Beanbag on the 3rd, let all recharge and finish. But my favo attack remains icepatch/ignite. Specialy with the temp stealth power you sneak up a boss, icepatch and hit CE. Walk back a bit, BU and spam ignite. Specialy with several mobs on the ice patch its really like fishes in a pan being fried. The damage of Ignite is really nice, add teh fact is has a base recharge of 4 seconds (mind it has a really tiny radius - they say 8ft, i think its more a 4ft). Add a Flametrower on it, and mobs seem to go down rather fast. Minor downside is the bitty long animation of Ice patch, wich sometimes can be very dangerous.
I gonna go for 3 recharge on ice patch, i noticed pretty often mobs seem to able to stand up and walk a bit on the patch or able to run of it when they near the edge. Thats the reason also i gonna slot Chillblain more, in case a mob tend to get off (or a boss), spam a few immobilises and then hit ignite.
Favorite teamplayer, the controller. Get a bunch packed up on hold or immobilise, start spamming ignite/flametrower.
For upcomming, 28 SJ, 30 hasten, 32 Full auto, 35 Frozen touch, 38 add other, 41 Epic shield, 44 Epic hold / 47 aidother. If i go Elec epic, 49 will be EMP (awsome power). -

As for the base raid, man the Villains got pwned big time. I gues it showed quite nice what kind of teamsetup the defenders need, hurricane&force bubble = pain in the bleep. -
What is your secondairy btw? I have had 2 fire tankers (deleted the fire/SS one), tanking with a fire tanker aint that different from the others. Only granite is the outside of that (dance because you have -70% recharge penaly
)

Agree on that, though initialy mine was team based. I think only the lvl20 big bubble and the sonic cage are usefull for a solo'er, then the final power 38. (the others are pure ally based - resist/resistdebuff/knockback/CM-style). But i gues with a patron pet its a very nice set to solo, since you can buff your pet pretty big time (not sure if any pet tend to go more melee then others?)

I would say, spam your high dmg powers instantly. Often you dont even have the time to buildup a decent Fury (not rage
) so a buildup ET->TF would be more usefull.

I have a AR/Sonic, lvl20 now.
The Sonic bubble (lvl20 - big range) is very nice, slotted 3x resist, 2x EndRed would be best setup (becomes 20ish% resist all with SO's, resist imm/hold/disorient for everyone in the bubble, startup sound is annoying though). The ally-bubbles each can go 3resist. The -res toggle around ally is a really high end-using toggle, get it after you got your stamina, 3 EndRed would be the right slotting.
Sonic cage i havent took yet, i gues a recharge/acc would be the best way to go. -

Minor correction, the Double Exp starts at 9BST. That case its better to move it to saterdayI'd say, get a tanker that can take beating from Freakshow, get a troller (i always like the ice/ one) and a emp/kin to keep endurance running. From there it's fill'em up.
I have a 34 and 37 that could join, though not sure if i'm available (due double exp). -
Pre-ED it was basicly nova/inferno/TB heaven. 6slot dmg with BU/Aim could nearly whipe even lvl bosses instantly, not having the 16-aoe cap.
And there were blizzard blasters.. they were mocked, put in box wich says 'lousy and weak'. Blizzard wasnt buffable, blizzard did a DoT. Fullcrum and you nearly saw a smile on any non-ice-blaster comming when they run into the big group herded by the tanker. The ice blaster? Was quietly sitting in a corner crying.. hoping someday they could shine too.
I remember the day my Ice blaster got Blizzard, happy i could kill even lvl minions with only blizzard. Untill my nrg/ice blaster got nova.. That was doing instant whipes on +3 minions easy.
Nowadays its equal again, BU/Aim ice storm/blizzard does a very very nice damage and overrules the 16-aoe cap, making up for the time they were so badly weak. Yes, ice blasters can smile when Fullcrum comes. -

I would swap these 2, ice patch is a serious life saver and a blaster's best help they can give to a tanker.
Shivers i never took, i dont like the animations (makes you rooted). Instead of that jump kick, go for combat jumping, gives immobilize protection.
Frozen touch is lovely, though melee. The damage is pretty nice (3.2 DoT) but the animation is serious fast. Shivers might be replaced by frozen aura, tomorow my blaster will be high enough (alraedy i gues tonight, 1,5 bar) to get this power, i'll let you know what it is (aoe sleep, combine this with stealth, lovely).
Acrobatics gives mag1 protection to kockback/up/down and hold. The hold can take 1 hold-attack from mobs, often in PvP its not enough. The kb/ku/kd is a great protection, specialy with those banished earthquake powers. -
I can play 'host' for this weekend, i have SG/VG-invitable toons in both accounts. So whenever you dicide to make a new too, give me a call @Encore or @SinergyX to get you an invite, afterall this is our chance for biggo prestige for the VG/SG.

The best blaster is the one you can play best in PvE.
As plight said, he's master in elec/elec, he can basicly solo anything. I'm quite skilled in ice/nrg, one of my personal favorites in PvE-solo. Getting a fast-spam hold power at lvl8 (freeze ray) and a high dmg melee power (bone smasher) you basicly can solo small (high lvl) groups very early.
Recently i started a AR/ice blaster, having decent damage at start from AR and a bit of mezz-style of /ice, past 26 you become a quit masskiller (with a bitty of patience). Ice patch and ignite, flametrower and spam ignite again. Great having Builup from the /ice side, increases your damage quite nice. But, you need to know the play style.
Find you playstyle, find your element and then match it with the available Sets. Mind, a blaster is a 'livin on the edge' toon, some might never get used to the life of a blaster. -
ok, been playing with about 24 blog sites, 5 forums and close to 50 image upload programs... SCREW IT BLEHEHEH.
Ok.. i'm cool. All those fancy stupid forums/blingbling/allinone scripts are way too much that we need. I'll continue the search for just a stupid new-submit stuff thing that has multi-user support.
For now i'm using SMF-forums (click), the ImageDoc remains thus far untill (i hope) i find a new one. -

Update on the blog news, i had a fancy one running but it was just too hard to adjust it any way. I'm thinking of just setting up a phpBB2 board with portal-entry. Its basicly the same, except its a bit more costumizable and userfriendly (and as far i know the ImageDoc site can be integrated into the forum post - you can upload images when you post).
As for the Beacons, imho Faultline or boomtown can be ditched anyway, the little few chances you need to be there and the wrong place you get spawned (center of map) make them a bit useless imho. Hollows i like, perez not sure.
