He is right though, several posters have already answered your initial question and explained you why you're wrong in your assumptions, yet you keep insisting that:
Quote:Which is simply a lie.Still, I'm saying that resistance-based armors have more potential to become better from IO bonuses. If we're just comparing resistance armor with defense armor without any set bonuses from IO's, then yes defense-based armors would be just as good if not better...but IO's and set bonuses change everything. -
-
Quote:No. Just. No.However, let's talk about a pure defense-based armor set, Super Reflex. It requires you to take pretty much all 9 powers, it has no self heal, no +regen, no utility powers, just a +20% recharge power. It's pretty much just soft-cap defense...that pretty much anyone can reach with IO's.

Quote:Some resistance based toons can build for softcap to either 1 position (usually melee) or 2 types (usually smashing/lethal) only, but it usually results in a horribly gimped character lacking some key powers in favor of set mules, that also happens to cost an exhorbitant amount of inf.Resistance-based armors can utilize bonuses from IO's to reach the defense soft-cap. This pretty much gives them 2 layers of protection. However, defense-based armors can't get a soft-cap for resistance.
And there is no such thing as a soft-cap for resistance. -

Further expanding on that: give us the choice to use a Sword/Mallet where we couldn't before, including the Dark, Energy and Electric Melee powersets
-
Would a Kin Brute be viable? of course it would be. Would a Kin Scrapper outperform a Kin Brute in terms of damage? most likely, given that their inherent [Fury] is getting castle'd upon GR launch.

Quote:This seems to be the consensus of the good players on the forums.I might do a KM/SD brute. That combo should put out some rather stupid ST damage.
The rest of the newbies seem to be under the wrong impression that the set is underperforming, can't honestly see why they would think that *shrug* -
That doesn't really prove anything, "player feedback" has a very strong pull in this game, won't argue that. Too bad most of this "player feedback" comes from the vocal, whiney roleplayers on the forums who don't have a clue about game mechanics or balance.
-
Quote:And a very erroneous one. That was the majority consensus. I've tried it with various combos at +45 and it's an average set, underwhelming to me, all show and no pony. I'll be avoiding it on any melee AT.
But you might like.
Kinetic Melee is miles better than DP, and the ST DPS it can reach is just slightly lower than Fire (with much lower +rech reqs, too)
It does seem a bit lacking on the AoE department, though. -

Fiery Aura got buffed, but Shield Defense got castle'd

I delete 50's all the time. I have a personal rule of having only 1 of each AT per server, so there have been cases where I want to roll a Controller, but I already have a Controller, so I have to strip/delete the old one before creating the new one.
It's not exactly a pleasant process, but it helps me keep sane from altitis, and gives that much more importance to the characters that do survive. -
And don't forget the +3% def IO's that go in resistance powers...

Quote:I suggest SS/Elec Brute.I'm looking at making a new brute for GR.
Now the question is, is there a brute that can do just about anything?
Like Solo, team, farm, tank tfs and solo AV's or am I asking the impossible?
It has very good ST damage to solo AVs with Punch, Haymaker and Gloom
It has good offensive capabilities to farm, with Rage and Lightning Reflexes cross-enhancing the effectivity of Foot Stomp and Lightning Field. Add Ball Lightning or Dark Obliteration and you're gold
It's good for tanking SFs, most notably the Lord Recluse Strike Force, old school style, where defense-based Brutes are phail
On top of all that, it also has an endless endurance supply to just keep going and going...
Edit: I can also predict that SS/Elec will make an excellent STF Brute. My Tanker is also Elec Armor and has little trouble tanking all 4 patrons at once. -
Fire Sword, Ice Sword and Stone Mallet are weapons and also part of a set that is also color customizable

Respeccing doesn't cost any inf, you get to reassign all slots and all powers starting from level 1. All your slotted enhancements become "unlocked" and are pooled appart, which then you can reassign them back to your powers, or "sell" them back, and you get reimbursed the vendor cost of the enhancement (or the crafting cost, in the case of IOs)
