Hmmmm... what would you think of a Kinetic Melee/Electric Armor/Weapons scrapper?
Keep the electric armor customization set to "bright" but pick an almost black shade to reduce the effects. And if you have the origins pack, maybe add a combat sparks aura to him/her. -
Quote:Or any of these varieties: YUM!Try marinating and slow cooking, like pulled pork.
(FWIW, I'm veggie and would only eat a suitable vegetable protein based horse meat substitute.) -
Quote:Well, you probably could, iof you devoted all your resources to the animal booster - but scrapping I20 and the Incarnate Trials just so that someone could make a hippo-headed avatar with a monocle and baseball cap mightn't be good for the long-term health of the game
Not a baseball hat, but best I could do on short notice. -
I hope you're not referring to the "prime rib of horse" graphic Posi. Because although it's socially acceptable elsewhere to eat horse, I really hope you all at Paragon aren't chowing down on Flicka.

I build intuitively (sans Mids or any other tools) to get over a minimal threshold of survivability. Without this, characters just become too tedious to be fun.
What is my criteria for this threshold?
- I can solo missions, bosses on at even level, with whatever inspirations I have at hand without faceplanting so many times that the travel back from the hospital has me /ragequitting
- I can play on a tf PuG, even a speed tf (but not record breaking usually) without being the one fingered for slowing the team down
After that, I build intuitively to flesh out character concepts as they become more refined in my mind. Sometimes that means playing into my character's AT, sometimes against it. A few will bump up against some of the caps--at least they feel like they do as I don't run the numbers myself but based on how the perform feels parallel to some labored min-maxers. But ultimately, nearly seven years on, I'm still building for that "gee whiz" artsy feeling. And I love it! -
Quote:Yes. And nice trick. Will need to remember that. At least for my he-males. The dolls and dames may need to wait till something better comes along.I wish we could buy this animal booster now.
This is a costume idea ChristopherRobin came up with
He used the Lions head chest emblem (there's 2 I believe) to emulate chest hair. I realize this booster must be pretty much done, but chest fur would be awesome for an animal or a future monster booster.
Moar fur collars and cuffs plz! -

How about a weird inside out take on the movie Seven? Instead of the seven deadly sins, perhaps celebrate the seven virtues of CoX?

One more set of hopes I know won't be in this pack, but IS animal related:
- Antlers as a head detail
- Animal skin helmets--think fantasy novel cover versions of druids and shaman with wolf, bear, deer and lion heads on their head
- Shoulder (and other body) details made of various animal trophy bits. Think Kraven the Hunter's lion head or Hercule's lion skin cloak
But these packs have only so many parts in them. And when my expectations get too far afield from what has already been teased at (in this case one feline and one avian themed set) I tend to get wildly disappointed.
So this is my remedy. -
Quote:Yes. When I saw the eagle head, it is quite bald. Though very few birds have that distinct hooked beak of an eagle, we still could fake a good hawk or falcon with a few different skinning options. Add in some feather tuft head details and we're really in business for a wide range of birds.2) Some variation tweaks for the heads we've seen... whether they're patterned colors for the eagle-head's feathers or general accessories for the cat heads (ear types, with/without mane, patterns, etc)
For me, I'm really more interested in things that make convincing animalistic COSTUME DETAILS... not necessarily for beast men and women. So again, fur shoulders, feathered cuffs, etc etc.
A long time ago I'd suggested new costume tech for "armpit wings"--essentially costume details that stretch from the high waist to the elbow creating a triangle of webbing between the arms and the torso that freely distorts with animations. (Think how the legacy character Swan's costume "wings" look.) In my dream world, this tech would be implemented and with a booster such as this we'd get a colorable feathered option and a furry option. Then with something like i20, we'd get some more generic spandex and shiny spandex options. Then with the "supernatural booster" (an idea long ago praised at least once or twice by Noble Savage--no idea if it actually made it into the dev queue), we'd get a nice spider web option for this armpit webbing. -
Hopes:
- Animal run equivalent of [Ninja Run]
- Fur and feather details for gloves, boot tops and shoulders
[edit] - a new hope: A burrow then erupt from the ground costume change emote.
Speculation:
The set will EITHER:
- Have two full sets, one feline and one avian inspired plus the reptile feet
OR
- Be a diverse sprinkling of animal parts, a majority of which will go in the monstrous head and feet categories
EITHER WAY
- Based on prior disappointments, I am currently not expecting any of my hopes to be part of the pack. My speculations will be more on target. So my one remaining hope is that it include at least enough elements that amuse me long enough that I'm not at all upset about the price.
FWIW, I AM already liking the new cheetah pattern that's been shown regardless. First element that has me saying "Yup. I can find a use for THAT." -
Quote:Yes. I think that is right. In the same way that 5% run speed is not the same as 5% movement bonus.Hold on... this isn't right is it? I always understood the rule of 5 is that you can only have of the same named bonus. So you can have 5 '2.5% smashing' bonuses and 5 '3.5% smashing' bonuses as well as 5 '2.5% smashing/lethal' bonuses because it has a different name.

Make sure you unlock your alpha slot before beginning or it will all be for naught! (You probably know that--but it would suck to put in the time, commit to a tf and then find out midway through!)
Once you've unlocked, identify which of the four first tier alpha slot enhancements you'd like to craft and look at its recipe.
You will need to do either an LGTF, ITF or STF/LRSF to get the components and remember that components = 4 shards. So that is one guaranteed haul. If you are able to squeeze in two requisite TF's, you will most certainly get the last four shards to craft whatever else you need to make your first enhancement. A task that can easily be accomplished in half a day if you have the day off and want to commit the time. -
Quote:Stay safe. This video in particular from Toowoomba, which I assume is upriver from you in Brisbane?, conveys the violence these floods carry when they breach the river banks:Thanks for all the good words, folks. As you can imagine, I've only really catnapped and have been following radio and tv reports. My only plan for the day is to stock up on essentials like batteries, water and food.
This video I filmed yesterday on my iPod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PdoEuuMqBs This was as of 5pm yesterday. I hope to film the river again today.
With luck, I should retain electricity and internet and will be able to sit this out. I feel incredibly sorry for those who are and are continuing to evacuate their homes.

You can min max with sets if you choose. But personally, I tend to feel my way through them. I grow concept builds. And sometimes these builds are full of holes.
My approach:
Maybe one character doesn't move fast enough (especially prior to non-inherent fitness).
Maybe one character is a scrapper but in concept should be able to take a hit more like a super man or woman, and therefore could use some more resistance and defense.
Maybe another character, though not regen, should be "healthier" than normal and needs his or her health to be restoring more quickly than it does.
Basically, especially if already playing at 50, identify what feels off about your character, either concept-wise or simply based on play experience.
Then take a look first at just one or two powers you'd like to throw a set in eventually. In your example: melee damage. Take a look at the sets available. As you already asked: which one's go up to 50? What sort of set bonuses exist? +10% on regen? Okay. Does that fill a hole in your character? Or amplify them in a way you think you might appreciate?
Also notice that many sets with proc inventions can only have that proc slotted once. So if you are trying make the most of bonuses that kick in only when all six pieces are slotted in one power, know that you'll only be able to do this once for any given set with a UNIQUE proc in it. It's usually in the top tier where you find resistance bonuses for either toxic or psionic damage types.
Lastly, remember the "rule of 5." The game system will only allow your character to get up to 5 bonuses of any type. So you can only get a damage boost bonus from five different sets. Slot a sixth set with yet another damage bonus and the lowest of all six will be eliminated.
Overall, I tend to diversify. It helps make my squishies less squishy. My tanks do more damage. Certain characters more fleet of foot. Etc. etc.
It certainly can be overwhelming if you try to min max it and the thought of spreadsheets or hero builders turns you off. But know that you can swim through the system quite fluidly, further realizing your most super supers and making feasible some more oddball builds without once opening up a hero building aide. I do it all the time. Concept builder. Role player. Never power leveler. And I feel no need to min max with the system. It's quite enjoyable actually.
But start small and nibble at it. No need to memorize which sets have a six slot bonus that really helps your controller with status protection. You can always ask. Or simply give it time and you'll discover some of the goodness that is out there.
Good luck Sam and have fun with it should you take the plunge. It really is hard to do anything wrong in this game. Honest. -
Quote:Actually based on the first screen shot featuring just two of the new eagle parts, I'd say the complaints might be in the opposite direction: as in these are too beastly and not anthropomorphic enough.Regarding any future animal-themed booster packs and costume parts, I'm going out on a very sturdy limb right now and speculating that there'll be a substantial forum contingent that claims "this pack doesn't fit those of us who want animal concepts" and that it "isn't animalistic enough." You heard it here first, folks!
Speaking to the (first?) animal booster pack as a whole:
Considering how all the packs have gone, I'd only expect 2 full animal costumes with maybe a couple variations and options on each. A bird themed set will obviously be one. Jay's tease hints at some sort of furry beast running through the shadows on all fours. Cat? Dog? Rat? Generic beast fur shoulder and chest details? Time will tell on that one.
And speaking specifically to this first teaser image, some of my immediate questions:
Though it will be fun to see some new bird beast characters and an inevitable few griffens as well, I'm most curious to see if there are more bird like offerings for the rest of the body that can be used for more general costumes. Feather shoulder or collar bits? Feathery cuffs? Arms or glove bits with a line of feathers arcing down or back, similar to the finned gloves?
Also will we get any other birdlike heads beyond the very distinct eagle head? At least a different beak shape for a more sparrow like bird or a hawk? Or head details with wilder tufts of feathers?
Either way, I'm pleased that some sort of beast/manimal/anthropomorphic set is on the way. It has been requested for a long time. And even if there ends up not being alot that I was hoping for, if it is diverse enough I'm sure there will be SOMETHING in it I find useful. *fingers crossed* on a beastly run power, which could work for certain rooftop raider and or monstrous types of mine. -
I've been watching some of the videos that are showing up on climate change sights. It's pretty unreal what the folks in Queensland are going through. Small streams and drainage ditches turned into class 5 rapids, washing away entire parking lots full of cars as if they were bits of wood. Absolutely amazing.
Stay safe and find high ground, good people of northern Oz. -
Quote:Ah... thanks for the correction. I misread the original post I was quoting and got lost in the pronouns. I now see the arc the poster was referring to rather than describing his characters origins which I was reading as a private take on the Alpha Slot first arc, where his character somehow took armor off the most powerful villain of the future and then bestowed that onto his own character's past self at level one, creating a new power armor hero. But as you point out the arc he was referring to, I feel a little /facepalmy.Except it isn't a private narrative. It's canon. You go to the future, beat up Recluse, bring back his helmet (the PG-13 equivalent of bringing back his head), show it to him and say "look, I kicked your butt at the height of your power. What are you gonna do about it?" and he says "Nothing. Congratulations. You're awesome. Go take over the world or whatever it is you want to do." Which just makes the RSF more insulting, since you can only start the TF that gives you the Servant of Recluse badge after he tells you that "you are a true villain, beholden to no one."

Quote:To be fair, our "talk to" missions are essentially FedEx missions. And the legacy content is loaded with them.Or I could play that other game, and, you know, end up doing FedEx quests for Aquaman. Yeah. I'll get right on that.
We also have our version of killing 10 rats that scales up to annoying levels.
And CoV content is plagued with city of lackeys issues.
BUT as War Witch asserts in her interview, nearly 7 years of content plus a few gems (mostly in the rough) from the mission architect, with tip missions and some of the newer arcs, we do have some really good content that places you at the center of the narrative.
Funny enough, I've found that this range of content actually benefits the game from my experience. There are now a range of stories that I can explore.
So though the narrative that you describe about your character and his/her power armor is one rooted in your private imagination (or amongst your group of mates in game), the games wealth of content currently now provides a pretty good range of backdrops for these personal pretendy-funtime narratives so many of us sketch out as we are watching our various characters' backsides for hours on end. -
Quote:You know, I had fantasies of making a character that looked (and shuffled!) like Ms. Swan, blasting music from a convertible using a playlist comprised entirely of Helen Reddy and Gordon Lightfoot songs. But alas, I never gave the game a go so I've no idea if this was possible. And my dream remains unrealized.you know, funny thing about apb, since we seem to be momentariy being granted some lattitude, but i wonder if it could have really worked in a superhero setting. apb seemed to (i never got to play it, largely due to its lack of any melee combat whatsoever)cover the urban and maybe punk dystopian look ok, but with the depth of sources that most competent superhero mmos have, i dont know if they could really maintain the depth over the masses of ultratech, mystical, monstrous, alien, four color and all other art styles.
