Quote:Heh.I hope you are adding something to redside to balance the time spent focusing on the CTF.
Personally I think redside still could use a little more content, SFs, trials or trial like short SFs while blueside doesn't really need more but some overall refurbishing. Expand one, update the other. Though this may sound lopsided to some, I personally feel it accurately reflects the current state of the game. -
Quote:I'd use them for civilian/secret identity costumes honestly.Hmn....this is where my knowledge fails me. Anyone else got good examples of super and/or hero designs with casual clothes? Because I know they're out there.
But then of course I'd clamor for a few more costume slots per character... >.> -
Glad to read that it sounds like back details are *finally* after the better part of a decade of requests in the production queue. But the not *too* soon remark does give me pause. 1 year? 2 years? It's getting late.
The desire to revamp at least some of the legacy content, even if it is only legacy TFs is encouraging.
And add my name into the hat hoping that IDF costume bits (or something!) are coming to the players with i20.
To be clear, that list of trials... that's mapping out i20, i21 and likely i22, correct? -
Quote:Nope. You're not the only one.Am I the only one who finds this to be very disappointing, and a bit of a disservice? For a game that touts customization, saying "Oh, you can't have a street clothe wearing hero, it's not heroic." strikes me as being a big mistake.
Heroes can be caught offguard, or maybe not have time to get into their costume. We have Pocket D and Studio 55 for roleplaying, there are characters that aren't spandex clad heroes, that street clothing would suit, it would suit villains to for similar reasons.
Also, if street clothes 'aren't very heroic', then what the hell, Party Pack? How heroic is dancing like Michael Jackson, or bouncing a basketball?
Though the option does not top my list of desired costume themes and parts, it is as you say a disservice to the spirit of the game as it has evolved amongst the player base. -
Quote:My understanding is that if/when any meltdown does/has occur/occured from this type of core, it will not be a nuclear explosion but rather a dangerous and significantly high volume release of several highly radioactive isotopes. The nuclear power plant that exploded was actually a hydrogen explosion, not a nuclear explosion. That doesn't make it BETTER (parts of the facilities are still officially in meltdown status), but at least it isn't as scary a prospect.
Contamination and radiation poisoning are the real concerns here. As well as the fact that the region is also currently a natural disaster site which will complicate any containment and decontamination efforts.
Correct me if I'm wrong but: Death by radiation poisoning, cancer, infertility, developmental defects, and uninhabitability in the vicinity of the release are the real concerns. -
Situation continues to degrade. Reactor 2 is now seeing a temperature rise.
http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/76962.html
Also reports that the in the wake of the turbine explosion, the ceiling over reactor 1's containment has collapsed. Mixed reports that the rods of reactor 1 were out of the water about 18". That's a meltdown.
Edit: according to this article, meltdown in progress is now confirmed:

Quote:Actually this is incorrect. Two sites. One with six reactors. One with four. There are two sites, one with two reactors, one with three. Each site has a problem with one of their reactors. From my understanding the reactors were shutdown but the primary and backup cooling systems aren't working because ironically the power plants need external power to run them and the wave took out to much of the electrical grid infrastructure and damaged the diesel backup generators on site.
Mixed reports regarding the one with six reactors on whether it is one or two reactors that are experiencing serious problems, with pressure inside the core of one of those reactors reported to be double the normal level. A controlled venting of radioactive gas has already occurred at this reactor. And as of 5:30 gmt, Japanese nuclear authorities are saying that there is now a high probability of meltdown of the core.
The other site, with four reactors, has lost cooling control at three of the four reactors. It was restored prior to the wave. The wave knocked out the generators. Now they are on battery backup to prevent meltdown.
It's serious. -
Just caught some of Rachel Maddow's coverage on the five reactors that are at risk of meltdown. Pretty serious stuff. Pray that things cool back down without any more incident.

On Triumph, just got "Skywright" as a rename for my pulp era rocketeer type (he was originally called "Captain Tomorrow" on Protector which I lost when I transferred him a year ago to Triumph as "Captain Skylark" which just didn't feel right.) "Skywright," though a bit ad hoc, feels good and has a nice retro zeppliner ring to it IMO.
Also just got "Solar Imperium" for a new hero-bound praetorian brute. For a long time I've wanted to make a character that would feel at home in the Shadow Shard, something out of the cosmic weirdness occupied by the likes of Galactus, Firestar and Silver Surfer. Between his name, costume, stature and powers, "Solar Imperium" might finally be that character.
Though I was not entirely surprised to find these names available, I was definitely pleased. -
Quote:I see what you did there.Eh, I've never cared about the "City of Pawns" concerns, but I've never cared for the game's metastory either. I take the attitude of a modern major title comic book writer and just ignore anything that detracts from the story I want to tell :P The speculation there was sheerly on what COULD be possible.
But... taking that a bit farther just for the fun of it, though others have already traveled this path....
In the end of Ramiel's arc, the well wasn't where you expected it to be. What caused it to disappear? Did someone get to it first? Did THAT thing be so consumed by the fast-path that it became one with the well... corrupting the well and making it "mad"?
We know that it wasn't Mender Silos... who seemed quite miffed that it wasn't there.... (and who seemed to be there first, by the way). We also know that Mender Silos is one potential future 'good' Lord Nemesis.... but that means there could be more... other.... not-so-good variants of Lord Nemesis also traveling through the timestream. One of them could have traveled back and gotten to the well first... corrupting it... and bringing about all this madness.
Yes, it is all still a Nemesis plot.
And it proves just how mercurial my opinions of all things metastory actually are. Because this I'm actually fine with. But the sentient omnipotent, omnipresent god-well? Not so much. I guess it's why I always preferred Iron Man or Spidey or even Hawkeye and Mockingbird over Thor and all his foes. Gods in comics just bore me for some reason. Even if they have a great graphic presence as Thor did back in the 60's and 70's. *shrug*
Guess I'm a bit of proletariat and plebeian snob when it comes to my superheroes. I likes 'em scrappy and earthy, often with Shakespearian motives.
The only one that ever trumped this for me was Silver Surfer--and only sometimes--just cuz he could be so damn groovy now and then. Stoic but trippy. That and I think I just loved the blobby magenta cosmos they used to set him in. -
Quote:Okay, up till this point I have not been on board Eva's rants against the growing ubiquity of the well. But the logical conclusion to this line of thinking, now that I too have some incarnates, is that I've been wasting my time playing City of Pawns for seven years. What if the well effectively controls both? If the well is using cole to launch its invasion on Primal Earth, then what is it doing with the Hamidon during this time? Is Cole's assault on Primal Earth the Well's main objective? or is all this just an elaborate ruse- something to draw attention away from something else... something growing in strength beyond the sonic barriers...
It's a really uncomfortable god-modded meta narrative from this player's perspective. One that I'd prefer NOT to entertain. Lord Recluse in CoV was bad enough for my tastes. This? Talk about predetermination ad absurdum! Blech! -
Some things that come to mind, mix and match till you get something that works:
Theta
Prism
Prismatic
Chromatic
Chroma
Spectrum
Spectrometric
Spectrographic
Disperse
and as I usually tend to, find some corny golden or silver age noun to go with it such as:
Theta Champion, dispersing justice wherever she may bend. -
This is almost inspiring enough for me to get back into the AE tools. I think I'd like to play a few arcs that go there and do it well...
-
Quote:I've thought there should be a redside/loyalist TF contact back in Praetoria that somehow connects the time between where the loyalist content leaves off and where the mythos around the i20 invasion raid content picks up.Cue golden girl drivel in 5, 4, 3...
Seriously though I think you are right, they are abandoned. All our characters are supposed to realize that Cole is a mad-man by level 20 and willingly escape Praetoria for some reason. There's probably not much to be done about this due to the usual linear MMO storytelling methods.
Fortunately you can always write your own pro-Loyalist content in the Mission Architect!
Another thing I was hoping after seeing the Praetoria zone events: some of the incarnate raids would allow for players to decide at event launch which side to play for. Feels like that mechanic, which is relatively elegant compared to most content currently in game, was neglected. Like what if players want to HELP Cole invade in i20? -
My four gripes which I think could/should be tweaked post launch of the pack still, from most reasonable to least:
- The lack of the fur texture on flat feet
- The lack of the three new animal patterns showing up on capes
- The divets, as mentioned above, on the cow head when you select no horns
- Another significant pass still should be made on beast run animations to bring it up to part with other animations in game -
I know there are solid reasons why we will never get a full growth or shrinking set, or maybe even perk powers like a certain competitors out-of-combat size change perk powers.
But for an as of yet unnamed vet reward, would it be possible to push the ceilings and floors of overall character scale up and down, respectively, by say 10%?
Out of all my characters, I only have 2 off hand that I'd like to see as either extraordinarily large or diminutive. Personally think this would be a nice visual option for long time vets. -
Full reboot seemed to do the trick. Still have never seen this problem before though. *shrug*
-
Having a strange problem that just started tonight, about 7:30 EST, 3.5.2011.
Loaded up one character and went to zone from founders to Talos. The game crashed in the loading screen, with the loading bar filled about 1/5th the way. At first I thought it was hung up, but when I started the task manager, it revealed that behind the loading screen was the bug entry prompt.
Closed out CoX. Restarted the game.
Tried loading the same character. Same results. Same sort of crash. Sent in the bug report.
Closed and restarted again.
Tried a different character, this one in Steel. Similar results, crashing at about the same loading progress in the bar.
Sent bug report. Closed. Restarted the game once more.
Tried a third character. This one in IP. Same results.
Going to reboot my system now and give it one more go. But I've never seen this happen before. Has anyone seen this? -
Quote:I wouldn't bet on it. Not for a few years at least. There is a lot of symmetry in the current design as it is unfolding. 4 identically shaped trees per slot. Very similar multipliers of advancement along those trees. Etc. What I've read from the zip full of screenshots, it all appears balanced in terms of game mechanics.Don't forget that Tyrant's armies are the only Incarnate enemies we've fought so far - Tyrant might form alliances with other known and unknown factions in the multiverse, who he'd then empower via the Well - so there might be other pet options further down the line.
-
Mine all stayed. I can still use the old CoX only launchers via those icons or the NCsoft complete launcher. The more I use it currently, the more I'm liking the NCsoft launcher--especially since it keeps test and beta versions up to date at a glance.

No screenies from me. But today while playing with it, I realized I *really* like this one using the darkest tones possible. This is one of those auras where the result is a super saturated low luminosity particle effect--nice subtle but rich smears of color following your character around. Specific concepts? None yet. But formally speaking, it's just nice.
-
Quote:Again, launcher is available here:I was asking about the launcher, not the aura. I've not seen anything about it, and the game started up last night without an update, so, what gives?

Quote:On the aura itself, I had tested it on the training room, but only now did I try using the darkest colors. It looks really nice with those. All saturation, very little lum. Good subtle, rich colored wisps. That's cool. I was just making the point that getting it on Live must have been a new change since this morning because that wasn't the case last night. Fun fun.
Definitely like this one. -
The aura is live. Just checked.
And to get the launcher go here:

The biggest concern about this would be the fairly mixed track record over the game's history of SOME new systems and advancements being revisited and refined quite thoroughly while others have gotten entirely neglected. "Add more later" quickly turns into "soon(tm)" which, as those of us who've been around since the first year, has turned into "never" about 50% of the time.
Related to this, I understand wholly why those that just want the tools, the powers, etc. for whom character customization is a nominal element of their enjoyment of the game--why those players strongly want no delay whatsoever. Because any delay might turn the aspects they are looking forward to in i20 into a "soon(tm)" that may also devolve into a "never."
