Quote:Excellent summary of where I've arrived at after giving the content you cite a decent amount of study. I've now recently replayed at least once, if not thrice, the entirety of single player blueside contact content in each bracket from 20 up to 45, including all legacy arcs and one offs. And what you say describes after giving a little time to digest the experience my feelings about most of it, despite any nostalgia I might still harbor for the "old game."I find a lot of the older content, especially things like WWR, and a lot of the content in the 30's and 40's, all of the old TF's (Posi - Numi, Shard TF's) feel like "told" stories. The stories might be interesting and the text dumps well written, but ultimately I find them unengaging and uninteresting. Say what you will about Roy Cooling and the like but the storytelling there keeps the story moving forwards, and keeps the player involved. Same thing with the Leviathan arc villainside. It actuallyfeels like you're doing something, which simply never feels that way with older arcs.
For those wondering this took me about a year of turning XP off in each bracket as I casually alted through a number of characters moving through the midgame. I've done it, seen what I wanted to see, especially if this content gets buried under new stories of a total revamp such as what Atlas and Mercy seem to have gone through. I'm glad a FEW of these stories should forever be available in Ouroboros because some, like the Freaklympics, are still fun ideas with at least playable execution. Though this hasn't turned me into an outright power leveler, barring a few small narrative exceptions (like pingponging a new villain between Crusader and Power arcs goldside), I won't be using the XP off option any more blue side. (still working to see "it all" redside on a couple characters though. In my 30's currently with those two.)
As a whole, despite a few minor grievances, I am much more pleased with where the game is currently heading from i20 forward especially in terms of how stories feel and play. Despite the brevity of part 1 of the signature arc, very pleased with the central role my characters have played in that. -
Just tested this again. And yup, dying on a map then zoning to the hospital seems to reset the primary power colors and animation selections. This was on costume slot 6 (numbered 0-9) of the character. Will continue testing as I play over the coming week.
-
Power customization is resetting on purchased costume slots (slots 5-9 if you already unlocked slots 0-4, but is happening on lower level characters on say slots 1-5 if they had not unlocked any in game costumes).
Started a thread in general bugs about this here several days ago: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=272097
But today was able to start narrowing on when and where this seems to be happening. Dying in a mission and then zoning to the hospital seems to be the major culprit. And this again is only happening to me on purchased slots.
In one instance, I died while being monkeyed courtesy of the secondary mutation power. In this case both my primary AND my secondary customization reset. In the other case, it only happened to my primary's customization. -
Hey Tunnel Rat, any chance that we could get a "dark" version of the new Volcano aura? Similar to how many powersets have both dark and light versions in terms of luma and alpha relationships.
Edit to add: I agree with Vanden regarding the opacity of this aura. Also, I get what the animator (whether it was you or another art team member) was after with this, it feels like it would read better as lava if it moved a bit more sluggishly. Feels very fast currently. Perhaps if it could be stretched to 200% or more duration, it will more successfully convey that heavy gloppy lava feeling. But as a poster above indicates, yes, it does make great splashy water right now when recolored. -
Quote:You can play with it yourself on any level character currently in the costume creator. I thought it looked pretty good myself. Don't know if I have anyone to use it on yet. And not sure if it is a glowtech aura--i.e. if you'd see the lava sloshing around and bubbling even if you went into a dark corner. May just have to buy it to see.Skipping past all of the SPOILERS --
Any input yet on how it looks? Seems like it might fit in thematically with the new signature arc.
On a related note, based on the shapes it makes, would love to have an inverted version of this aura. ie. just how several powersets have both dark and light versions, I'd love a dark volcano option. Got a black oozey character that would have great fun with that! -
I was first seeing it on a character sub 30, so wasn't sure if it was a new freebie or something I'd long missed as all the other legacy auras were also listed as locked. But just checked on one of my 50's and yup, look like that's one of the new pieces either on the store or coming Soon(tm)

Quote:Your definition is not necessarily shared by those posting in response nor some of us mostly lurking and reading through this thread.Let me sum up my thoughts here. A true Role Playing Game requires the player to PLAY A ROLE. They must embrace the mentality and characteristics of a fictional character and act out that character in order to win. The story in such a game is essential because without it, the player cannot base their actions upon anything.
For me, the bit in orange is a particular sticking point. Not all games are played to win. A game can be a system of rules that provides a structure within which one or more players can couch play. Play need not always have an end game.
The structure and means provided by an MMO such as CoH for many can serve this purpose quite well. Thus by usage transforming into an MMORPG. And then, by most of your definition, suddenly story becomes of great import to those players. So though your perspective is interesting, it is not the one true way to approach CoH or any other MMO. When it comes to any sort of interactive design, you need to be ready for your audience to do the unexpected with what you present. You need to be flexible. And you need to remain open to a redefinition of your work by the public.
Or haven't they gotten to that yet in your curriculum? -
Big fan of the Terra conspiracy. Think it's a great story but plays as one of the worst mission arcs in the legacy content.

Quote:If by fix you mean Atlas level visual revamps including the eventual removal of war walls in most places, I agree.^ Agreed. We've had a lot of new shiny, yes, some of it very awesome.
But I'd be happy if they took a break from 'New Shiny' zones to fix some of the damn old ones, and finish half done jobs.
And if by sticking with old powersets you mean putting full new suites of flavored animations onto Paragon store for existing power sets so they can compete visually with the new hotness from dual pistols forward, I'm all game for that as well. -
I suspect that back end work on whatever is being done with bases is related to why bases that took advantage of using multiple emblems on different items to great design effect got messed up with the i21 publish.
Whatever they are doing, I hope they can preserve/restore this accidental feature of allowing different items (floor tiles, banners, glass panels, etc) to have different emblems and SG colors. -
I could use a scuba tank. Hoping they trickle out that variety of back item one offs that Noble Savage has referred to on occasion...

Quote:I remember that bug. This is not the same thing. The bug you are referring to plagued recoloring some of the incarnate abilities in particular. And the work around you described was indeed the work around for that bug.I was getting this before i21, i think - try changing a single costume piece before editing powers, edit the powers and save the changes, then go back in and revert the costume piece.
But here, the powers will be recolored. They will stick. I can play with them for hours. I run around. Fire off purple and green time powers. Do mission after mission. No issue.
Then I quit the game for the night, come back the next day. The powers on the costume I exited the game with are now reset to default colors. As far as I've tracked, this only seems to happen on any costume slots I have that are unlocked via the Paragon Store. The costume slots that reflect ones earned at levels 20, 30 and 40 as well as via Halloween salvage do not appear to be vulnerable to this bug.
At the end of the day, it's not the inf. that is of concern. It's the time and tedium of having to visit a tailor to reset the power colors on these groovy additional slots I purchased.
And no idea if this is related to the sporadic UI recoloring bug or the character title recoloring/miscoloring bug I'm also experiencing. -
Started a thread about this as well.
It's a bit sporadic. Sometimes it is not a reset to defaults but one character inheriting a prior character's UI color scheme.
Also having issues with colored titles changing in a similar but sporadic fashion.
And lastly having issues with power color customization getting sporadically reset to default colors on any purchased character slots (slots 6 and up). Made a separate thread about this issue as well since wasn't sure it was connected.
/bugged all three items too
Shutting the game client down and restarting seems to be somehow connected for me to all these issues. Wondering if the "quit to desktop" route of leaving the game is at least in part a culprit. Been meaning to break habit as a test and log out to character select next time I go to quit then backing out from there and then quitting the game from the login screen instead. Just to see.
Edit to add: just noticed last night that I am also getting the fog of war on maps resetting for the characters that get hit by this bug. These are full neighborhood maps resetting as if I'd never visited them. And to be clear these map resets are happening even on characters made new post i21, so it's not just a publish artifact in the database. City zones visited since i21 went live by all new characters are on occasion being reset. -
Doing some more testing and sniffing around. This bug is not hitting ALL my characters consistently. Currently it seems to be the last one played each session. And MAYBE if one of the paid for costume slots is active at the time of exiting the game.
At this point I am only using the quit to desktop function when I leave game. As opposed to logging out to character select or to login screen and then quitting from there. -
Firefox, latest update. Win 7 user. Having the same issue.
-
Since the latest patch to live, I've noticed that UI color preferences are getting reset. Not to default though. They are being passed along from the last character logged in.
I realize that this feature may not be the most used in game. Nor is this a game breaking bug. But some players, like myself, prefer to adjust UI colors thematically for each character.
A bit more about my account that may or may not be relevant:
- I've purchased 3 new costume slots via the market (also having some troubles with Power Customization colors resetting on these slots as described in another thread)
- I've purchased 1 of each type of global storage (enhancements, recipes, etc etc.)
- I am tier 9 with all the rewards.
Also noticed that title color customization seems to be *sometimes* getting passed from character to character as well, with each new character inheriting the properties of the last one logged in.
I also customize my chat bubble colors (like many people do) AND my global channels to match each characters' color theme. These settings do not at this time appear to be affected in any way.
/bugged this in game but throwing it in here as a thread too. Searched but did not see this already listed in other threads about bugs with in the current live build.
Thanks.
~SAF
Edit to add: Only noticed this occurring AFTER the latest patch to live last week. -
On all my purchased powersets, when I reload the game, i.e. log out over night, power customization on any character slot that was purchased is resetting to default coloring.
By purchased costume slots I mean costume slot 6 and up for level 40 characters OR costume slot 2 and up for level 1 heroes who haven't turned in any Halloween salvage. etc.
/bugged this in game but throwing it in here as a thread too. Searched but did not see this already listed in other threads about bugs with in the current live build. -

Looking for Barbarian parts, here's where I've found mine:
Male, Female and Huge alike:
Lower Body:
-> Legs -> Tight -> Barbarian (dimensional loincloth for him, reflective metal bikini bottom for her)
-> Boots -> Several Barbarian models for her, at least one for him
Upper Body:
-> Chest -> Tights with Skin -> Barbarian (reflective bikini top for her)
-> Chest Detail (only on Tight or Tights with skin) -> Several Barbarian chest details (ring straps including 2 off center ones! yay! for him, bodices and "armor" for her)
-> Shoulders (only on Tight or Tights with skin) -> Several Barbarian details (armor shoulders, upper arm bands, all for his, her and huge and awesome metallic armlets for her)
-> Gloves (only on Tight or Tights with skin) -> A couple Barbarian options per gender
-> Belts (only on Tight or Tights with skin) -> One Belt model per gender
NOTE: Many of these parts have 2 options under the skin for the item, i.e. I think the female parts come in banded or belted. This is similar to how several legacy belts got folded into the "standard" belt selection ages ago. With that in mind, there are many many items hiding in this set. 400 points for this was a steal IMO and is far and away much better and more versatile than the last couple booster pack sets we got under the old business model.
ALSO NOTE: That loin cloth is hiding in a tricky spot. I personally expected it to be under kilts. It is not. It's under tights.
Admittedly I haven't checked all the weapons sets to see if we get extras of those. Looked like there might be barbarian weapons in the per item sections of the Paragon Store.
And as an aside, just discovered the Celestial Pistols the other night. Love those! -
Hope this means we'll be getting gloves with fringe.
Seriously. If they're good enough for Metro Man, they're good enough for me!
-
I'm listed as having 0 points still. Are these still being applied to accounts? Been subbed monthly all summer.
