Glad you're liking it, Sonic/Dark is a great choice.
Once you get the cone sleep (Siren's Song) you can solo in almost total safety. Sleep the spawn, drop Tar Patch under them, Darkest Night on the lt/boss and start taking them down one by one.
Dark can be a little end heavy but you should be golden once you get Stamina. Sonic itself is very endurance-efficient, with the DoT on Scream and all the -res.
As for finding a good DN anchor in teams, yeah it can be tricky. The usual answer is to put it on a lt/boss because they'll live the longest as most minions die in the AoE salvos. However, depending on the team the lts/bosses can drop as fast if not faster (Scrappers and Stalkers)
On teams where everything is dropping really fast what you can do is either not worry about DN because stuff isn't a threat and focus on Tar Patch/blasting or, (once you're feeling more confident with your character), move ahead of the team and pull back to them with DN.
Throw DN on the toughest thing in the spawn, run back and hide round a corner. Mobs pile in, drop Tar Patch, team rejoices. This can be tricky and isn't always appropriate, so just judge when to use it. -
Awesome, bro. You're being finnicky about the crap sentence I wrote at 4am and now you're being passive aggressive.
or
meow meow meow mrooooooowr meow meow
Edit: must comment on the fact that while passive aggression is a pet peeve of mine, were I to make a post saying so in this thread I'd be being passive aggressive myself.
How delightfully meta that would be. God, gives me tingles just thinking about it. -
Quote:>.< I'm pretty guilty of this one. I think the general assumption is that until the release of GR, someone asking about a given thing (be it powerset, mechanic, place, mission, whatever) was probably familiar with the ingame terminology.Oh gods, THIS! It drove me to the point of insanity when I first joined the game, and still drives me nuts now (though, to a smaller degree as I have learned the lingo).
In my first week or so on the game, I started noticing all the "Set Bonuses" appearing in toon bios. I had no idea what it was, so I asked politely on the Broadcast channel if someone could explain it to me. What I received back was along the line of this:
"They are IO sets you can get at WWs or the BM for a lot of INF, or farming PI AV mish's, try to get LoTG IOs, they are great! You can also get them doing TFs/SFs, such as LGTF, ITF, LRSF, and others!"
**insert a lot of confused blinking at my screen on that one**
Sadly, when I asked for people to clarify, as that seemed like an entirely foreign language to me, all I got was a bunch of laughing and cries of "L2P n00b!" (Which, again, caused a lot of blinking as that made no sense to me...though, I was pretty sure was an insult).
Luckily, someone (who became my first global friend, and head of my first SG) sent me a very polite tell and explained it all to me using terms I understood. He turned out to be, bar none, the most polite player I have ever met on this game. No question was too "n00bish" for him to answer for me, and he was always very polite and patient with me as I learned the ropes.
But...other pet peeves....
1) As mentioned above, people who are rude to new players: Come on, folks! We were all new to this game, and gaming in general, at one point or another. Can't you cut new players a break, and take the time to help them out? Is it so difficult to show them the courtesy that you, yourself, probably expected when you first started? [...]
We're old fogies, we've not had new players for some time now
I'd like to think that if someone told me I was basically speaking Greek to them I'd take the time to break it down for them though, heh. -
^ Seconding this. Healing isn't as important in this game as it is in others. Sure, it's helpful but other sources of mitigation/prevention should come first. All of the sets known for 'healing' also have substantial ways to prevent that damage in the first place. Empathy has Fortitude, Thermal has the res shields and Pain has WoP.
Buffing/debuffing/blasting > healing
Dark or Rad are both very powerful all-round sets. Good AoE debuffs for normal spawns but very capable of handling the AVs/EBs you'll face with a team. They also both have the advantage of getting their core powers early, unlike /Pain which is very, very team-focused until much later on. Pain also is a fairly weak soloer, unlike Dark or Rad.
If you're only ever going to be teaming with the character going a more support heavy set like Pain or Thermal isn't a big deal, but for such a small team I think you'd be better off with a more well-rounded support set.
The tohit check on the Dark heal really isn't a big deal, more than made up for by how powerful of a heal it is, the fact it's a great debuff and is AoE. Slot for decent acc like you would any attack, rest for heal/end/rech.
O2 boosts heal is...well, fairly small. It's a nice addition to the rest of the power that Storm brings to the table, but if someone is taking a lot of damage or in the red its going to take quite a few O2s to get them back up.
I've got guides for all the Corr secondaries (notably Rad and Dark as I've talked about above) in my sig if you want to take a look. -
-
Earth or Plant as primary, Fire as secondary.
Both Earth and Plant have tonnes of control to help your team and Fire brings damage in bucketloads.
As for your forum name, I believe it takes your global name (your @name, for example mine is @Silas so it took Silas) unless you change it. -
*shrug* A lot of people either take it very seriously or have had their feelings hurt in one way or another. Just because the mature and reasonable thing to do would be to ignore it and move on, sometimes that's difficult for people depending on the attitudes and the circumstances involved.
As for not setting foot on the server because of what you've seen on the boards, well, that's your choice but I disagree. The boards aren't really representative of the server. Just the most vocal people looking for a place to discuss whatever is on their minds.
I'm certain you could play on Champion (or any other server, for that matter) and rarely, if ever, encounter the board/channel drama just playing and going about your business.
I've played on Champion for years now and have had many good experiences. Accept the bad as part of playing a MMO and the kind of people who tend to gravitate to them and move on. It's neither accurate nor reasonable to take the most vocal and/or unreasonable people of a group and say that the group as a whole isn't worth your time. -

When people call me by my RL name despite me not having introduced myself to them as such.
Minor, but rawr. Mostly because it can't be rectified without being a ****** about it. -
Because Amy is a cruel temptress and also a butt, I present to you:
Castle Bravo, my Fire/Rad Corr.
Cropped and everything, for your poor H-Scrolls -
Just transferring him didn't fix it though. He got fixed when I transferred him to another server, played him there until he broke again while zoning, then moved him back.
Petition still open, just in case it happens again. -
Update: Ran missions with him on Pinnacle, hit 20 and took him to the Rogue Isles, client locked up.
Killed game client, reopened it, it froze logging him in again. I go hrm, move him to Champion.
Log him in successfully.

Here's the problem:
I can't log into my new Praetorian Scrapper. I made him on Pinnacle (when the store was down so I couldn't make him on my home server because the slots were locked out), moved him back when the store was working again.
Played him, everything worked just fine until this evening. Now whenever I select him in the character screen and hit Enter Praetoria, my client locks up, I'm able to log into any of my other characters just fine.
As a test, I moved him back to another server (Pinnacle again) and am able to log him in just fine over there. I moved him back to my home server (Champion) to see if that fixed it. Nope, still locks up my client when I try to log him in on Champion.

Quote:Really? While the Defender forum does tend to be pretty negative, I've not noticed this.It really is quite simple. There is a vocal group that likes to bash empathy set with - he4l0r references, rocking the auras, pure heal spec and no secondary comments.
From the begining there were countless posts about not being able to get groups because everyone wanted an empathy defender because they could heal. Who did the defendes blame? They blamed the empathy defender not those that were asking.
That perception was the begining and lingers in the corners of the Defender forums.
Anti-healer people tend to be pretty good about differentiating between Empathy and healers, most of the hate directed towards healers and that mentality because it doesn't do Empathy justice.
I think most people have gotten over/grown out of the whole omg resent Emps because I didn't get teams on my DM or whatever back in issue 2 thing. -
A Fire/DM and now a Fire/Rad Corr Amy?
Stop it, I'm getting all a-twitterpatter -
Too much AoE is when you've got AoEs you don't use because your best ones are more than enough.
Fireball, Breath, RoF and PSW is plenty. Psy Scream maaaaybe.
