  1. Powerboost will only effect the -tohit on DN for its own duration.

This is because DN works is that it continually reapplies the debuff on everything in range due to its toggle nature, ticking very quickly. FF shields on the other hand are a one-off 4 minute buff that is only reapplied when you reapply them manually.

Fearsome Stare, as a click debuff, should inherit the PBed -tohit numbers for the entire duration of the FS debuff.

Rough rule of thumb: if it's a toggle, PB will only buff it for its own duration. If it's a click, it will inherit the PBed numbers until it wears off.
  2. Um, I was talking about pvp in the first place.

Scrappers don't need phase/Hiber in pve. Or pvp, for that matter. Shadowmeld is much better.

You can't go from Hibernate into Phase. That's what the no-phase timer I mentioned does. IIRC the numbers are: you can only phase for a maximum of 30seconds then cannot be phased again for 90 seconds after that (total 2min nophase duration). If you go into phase/Hibernate, you cannot do so again or go into the other until the timer runs out.

Whatever though, this is fairly off-topic and I have a sneaking suspicion that this isn't going to be a particularly productive avenue of discussion with you.

Sorry for the derail StoneJaguar. So uh, how 'bout that Inherent Fitness pool huh?

Edit: Mea culpa on this one, I was totally wrong in how I understood the nophase thing. I checked my facts and you can, as you say, go from Hiber-> Phase as long as its within the initial 30 seconds of phase time.

So sorry about that Phoenix, my bad.

Melee characters without god modes can already take Shadowmeld which is far better than Phase.

Only idiot squishies take Hibernate and Phase because of the no-phase timer.

Regens are silly enough with Shadowmeld and pvp is boned anyway.

The only possible argument about this change (and others of its ilk) I could possibly get behind would be that its indicative of a general dumbing-down or making the game more easy.

So I suppose there is difficulty in terms of knowing and understanding the complexity of the game. Just not in terms of reflexes/how punitive it is, which are the common offenders for difficult games.

Which is silly, since if you're finding the game too easy crank your difficulty up and/or fight some Romans/Arachnos/Longbow/Vanguard/Knives/Malta/Rularuu/any other tough group.

I've seen some people in other threads complaining because this will make the game even easier, which somehow offends their old school elitist self.

Spoiler Alert: this game was never hard. More difficult, certainly. But never that difficult. If you want to crow about how you succeeded at something actually difficult, go play old SNES/arcade games.

You know, the ones designed to beat the crap out of you because the more you died and failed the more money you put into them.

CoH is just not a very difficult game.

Edit: It is true that the game can be said to be complex, since it's a MMO which tend to have a fair amount of mechanical depth. That and it's got 5 years of Stuff Added. So I get that it can be overwhelming for new players since everything has different mechanics and there's like four currencies and sometimes you don't get drops from stuff under your level and sometimes you do and whatttttttt
  4. Another factor with a Spines/Fire is that the -rech, -slow with all the DoT will trigger the grief flag on mobs when they're at low health and they'll try to skedaddle.
  5. I highly doubt we're getting extra slots to go with them and I don't see how that would be a compromise.

We get free stuff, so we should get more free stuff with our free stuff as a compromise? [Insert Xzibit image macro here]

I think it'll be straightforward. Get them as inherent powers, slot them if you want to. If you already take and slot them, you get free powers should you wish it. End of story.

I think almost any build (especially ones minmaxed to any degree) have 1-3 powers which would be nice to have but couldn't be fitted in. Ones that would be nice with just the default slot.
  6. Fire has more damage, Ice has more safety.

I'd recommend Ice/Dark if you're starting from absolute scratch. Fire/DM would kill faster, but Ice/DM will destroy stuff pretty fast too and be much safer soloing in the process.
  7. Honestly, you people will complain about anything.

    This is a fantastic change.
  8. Yeah seriously. Almost all of my builds have a few powers which would be Nice To Have but couldn't fit them in.

Now I can. This is fantastic in my book.

People who didn't take Fitness before: You get free powers.

People who took Fitness before but didn't slot them: You get free powers.

People who took and slotted Fitness: You get free powers.

The City Traveller is also a very good point. Free SJ to go with my SS? Don't mind if I do

But yeah, all the ******** about this blows my mind. It reminds me of some dude on the forums sig. I forget who it is, but basically saying that this game could print money and people would still complain that they weren't sequential or whatever.

Sad but true. I wonder if these people are like that in RL. All their girlfriend decides to go down on them just because and they sit there scowling because it's not full-on sex.

Edit: Quality post, Demo. A+, would read again. And man, the more I think about this the more I like it. My SS/FA gets to take Temp Prot and RotP, may even redo his build more and take Acrobatics and do something else with all the slots with -KB IOs. My Cold Corr can take Snowstorm and Aim, my Therm can take Recall Friend, etc.

    Do want.

Oh and Kahlan? If you're reading this, take RoF on your Fire/Cold. I know it won't be slotted beyond the base slot, but would you? For me? Please?
  9. Interesting.

Castle said they're available at level 1 or 2, so you didn't have to wait to get Stamina. So we get the entire Fitness pool at level 1 or 2? I wonder if we have to choose between Swift and Hurdle.

Simply getting the entire pool at level 1 or 2 would be fantastic beyond belief. I'll get bonus Swift and 3 power selections on all my characters.

Edit: before someone asks, yes they will be slottable as confirmed by Castle. Just like Sprint/Brawl are slottable. Also ohhhhn noooooo my poor brainnnnnnn I made the mistake of reading the Archetypes & Powers General Discussion thread on this, people are complaining about it.

I think you over-estimate the benefits of Gloom to a Widow, especially considering the redraw associated with it and the damage Strike, Lunge and Slash does on a Widow. Granted, Gloom damage is less resisted in the game vs. the Lethal of Widow Claws.
You think negative is more resisted than lethal?

    Champions Vent

Cheers Bud, more vents = more better. Much appreciated.
  12. Hey Deus, thanks for the feedback.

I do still stand by what I said though. While you can make a melee Fort and put out some good DPS or an AoE Fort and put out good AoE, my opinion and experience says that's not the most effective way to build one.

I am coming from this from the perspective of someone who has one of every Corr so I prefer building to their individual strengths and specialities. If I wanted to bring AoE damage and defense to a team, I'd bring a Fire/Cold Corr.

Still, though. I'm assuming you're approaching this from the stance that you don't have to specialise on a Fort to begin with, which is a valid one. Honestly, I've gotta update a bunch of the guides, Fort one specifically because one of their main 'roles' so to speak I didn't touch upon at all in my guide.

A few quick things to help you understand my viewpoint better though: I really, really don't like long animations ET may still hit like a train, but I don't like being locked in that long animation (though its less bad on a lolmelee character) and in all honesty, my Fort doesn't get a lot of play these days.

She's still a fantastic and powerful character, it's just as I make builds I'm happier with for my main Corrs, I find myself wanting to bring her less. More on that later though.

Thanks for the feedback though, definitely something to think about
  13. Glad you guys like it

I'm quite fond of the character concept myself, worked out really well.

I'm just wondering how Concentrated Strike looks with a shield >.> IMO a lot of the KM animations look silly, but are toned down a lot with the shield. So, KM/SD is perfect for me, but I think CS looks really silly. I'm hoping it looks a lot less arm-wavey with a shield.

    This.

On a related note, it does bug me when people are spoiled by support-heavy teams where everyone is softcapped and the enemies are nerfed to hell. Then they play on a team with little support and run around like they are softcapped.

And wonder why they're taking so much damage.

  16. Rad/Dark.

/Rad and /Dark are both powerhouses, but Dark/ has crap damage. With Radiant Aura you don't need the self-heal from Dark/.

One of the downsides to /Dark is you can't slot an Achilles Heel -res proc. Irradiate fixes that
  17. ^ What they said, unfortunately.

/Stone is balanced around Granite, so all the other armours are pretty poor and use a lot of endurance.

If you really wanted to go this route, I'd aim to softcap your smashing/lethal defense and get as much +rech as you can on top of that for Earth's Embrace. Get a lot of +rec too.

As the others said, even if you drop Granite you've still got to use Rooted.

I've gotta reiterate though, unless you're 100% dead set on this route I'd urge you to reconsider. You'll be going to great lengths and expense to get fairly poor results.

If you want an elemental theme, why not go Stone/Fire? It's a fantastic (if end-heavy) combination. All the KD/KU in Stone and Fault help /Fires relative squishiness a great deal and Fire helps the SM hit even harder.

This. If you don't ask questions, you'll remain ignorant. Better to ask and maybe look like an idiot for a moment than never ask and be an idiot forever.

Also, people who cannot or will not listen. I mean, dayum.
  20. Colouring it pink and saying it was Psi/TK melee is actually the route I went with my KM/SD Scrapper Ectenic.

The shots are old I've since tweaked the costume a bit (hooray capes and fiddling with colours) but here he is:

    One

    And two combat shots:

    Two

    and

    BAM

    Three

I really like how well KM lends itself to customisation.

    I made that mistake once.

Reading the Comic & H/V Culture forum is about as good for your brain cells as chugging antifreeze.

Any forum not the Dev Digest, the ATs & Powers section, Market and Champion I avoid like the plague. There's just too much stupid for me to handle.

There's still stupid in those sections, (especially Defender and Market section), but generally enough posts that interest me that I can bear it
  22. Pet peeve: idiots who think Resistance = the good guys and Loyalist = the bad guys.

The whole frigging point of GR is grey moral areas and there being 2 sides to each faction is so that the division isn't that simple, you idiots.
