Fire/Storm, Fire/Traps, Fire/Rad and Fire/Dark are all pretty even in terms of soloability, debuffing, and teaming capabilities. Fire/Kin is less solo friendly, but more team friendly, and *ultimately* outdamages all corrupters, but not until late game.

Fire/Cold is somewhat similar to Fire/Storm, but is more team based, less solo friendly, and blooms much later.
Fire/Traps would be a tough call, but I'd definitely not rank Fire/Storm over Fire/Dark. Storm is a tricky set to play well whereas Dark is very powerful right out of the box, includes a self heal and a pet to back you up.

Storm brings more offense than Dark does, but Fire doesn't need more offense.

Fire/Dark is highly rated because its really, really good. Fire/Traps and Fire/Storm are of comparable power but not ease, how fast they become that uber and how flexible they are.
  2. Looks pretty solid, but there's a few things I'd change up.

I'd first and foremost try and build for softcapped smashing/lethal defense. Right now you've got low defenses from Weave and Maneuvers and nothing to stack them with. Tough isn't stacking with Dark Embrace for s/l res because you didn't take it.

Since the only power you're slotting up from Soul Mastery is Soul Drain, I'd urge you to reconsider your patron. Fulcrum Shift is going to give you much, much better damage buffing than Soul Drain will. Powerboost is largely a waste with Kinetics. It'll bump Transfusion up to a 50% heal but only for 15s at a time and healing isn't your main focus as a kin. It will only bring your defense numbers up from 15% to 20%, not enough to be worth it, especially for the low uptime.

I'd go with the Scorpion pool and softcap your smashing/lethal defense. You're going to be in melee range a lot for HoB and Fulcrum Shift, softcapped s/l defense will increase your survivability exponentially. If you're taking Weave, Maneuvers and Scorpion Shield you don't need much in the way of bonuses to get to the softcap. I know slotting melee attacks is lol, but 4 slotting Brawl and/or Boxing would get you big chunks of defense.

    Hope that helps

    lol, no

Someone using a word incorrectly doesn't mean they're innovative and changing language. It means they're using a word incorrectly. If enough people are as stupid as they are, it may catch on, like what happened with peruse.

It's true that words are entirely man-made so we mess with them as we see fit, but the definitions of words not being entirely fluid is important. You know, for communication. Especially when the word being used incorrectly is a dumbing-down of the original use, the new use being something covered easily by other words. The reason words with specific meanings exist is because we require them to describe specific things.

Language is a flexible and organic thing. Words can and do change meaning, but it requires widespread use and a lot of time. Professional isn't one of those ones yet. Nor does it have different meanings for American and British English.

The argument that a word means whatever you want it to mean only holds up in poetry.
  4. Now this is starting to look more like it.
  5. I'm assuming it is, since it's got 5 slots floating around which would presumeably be used to slot Fitness.

So I dumped 1 slot in Health, put in Miracle and Numi procs.

Put 3 in Stamina, put 4 of the P.Shifter set including the proc.

Stuff I like: has more regen (18hp/sec vs 14hp/sec) and recovery (3.54+Shift proc vs 3.45) than my build, recharge hit is within acceptable parameters

Stuff I'm not super keen on: No Quick Strike and swapping my ranged attack from Mu Bolts to Focused Burst. End consumption is slightly higher than my build but the increased recovery would probably more than cover it.

In fairness, I barely use Focused Burst now and I doubt I'd get a whole lot more use out of Mu Bolts. So that would be okay, since I would only really use it for occasionally tagging a far away dude and the bonuses than part of my actual attack chain.

QS is a more important loss. Yeah, I know I only have it 1 slotted but with AAO+PS I've got the damage buff for it to not to be awful and the recharge from bonuses helps too.

Losing Confront I'm not fussed at all about, but the Mu pet seems super wasteful given the loss of QS. I could put a slot in BA, stick a def or def/end IO in there to softcap my ranged defense, drop the pet for Confront and slot the hell out of it with Mocking Beratements which would give me better recharge for the slots but leave me slightly under softcap for AoE. 6 slotted Confront also pains me, but less than 6 slotting the pet

It's definitely given me some ideas and very interesting take on it. Thanks TS

What constitutes professionalism is debateable, yes. It's still not a synonym for 'really good' which was how he used it.

Either way, c'mon man give us a little credit. This isn't even close to a proper Champion drama thread. We can do better than this.

Rather, the better way to do it is to get as many people out as we can from the server, choose those you honestly think are the better characters, and try to make sure everybody has a fun time in the process. I know I attended a few of these on some servers just to see what others came up with, (and root for player friends) and participated here because it's my 'home' server, and I have to say I was glad to see that Dazz and Cherry tried to keep things light and fun. I didn't agree with all the choices, but that's the nature of any judged contest: it favors the personal tastes of those deciding. The judges do their best, there won't be anything but good intent involved.

Win or lose, you're not 'bad' because you aren't chosen, you're not the best if you are. The aforementioned human selection will skew to personal taste. Your character was made for you and your tastes...some others may appreciate it, some won't. Whether others like your stuff or not, just have a good time and move on. Oh, and if you see somebody else who created something you think is well done, make sure you let them know you like their style and you think it's cool.

To me, this is about as serious as a costume contest should get.

  10. What kind of gains have you been able to get for that though? My live build has 90 odd recharge, it's only the i19 build with the addition of the Ragnaroks that has over 100%.

I've been playing with it a lot myself and have come up with a few variations with high 80s-low 90s recharge which is okay, it just seemed like the recovery/regen/etc that I was getting for the reduced recharge wasn't a whole lot.

Granted, going from 80 whatever to 100ish is barely making a dent in the recharge of my powers except for the really long recharge stuff like Hasten and Shield Charge...going from 103 to 83% only takes about 2 seconds off SC and PS but about 10 off Hasten.

Which isn't really a noticeable amount, to be fair. What kind of values were you able to get for recovery, regen and hp?

Really appreciate the help by the way, thanks
  11. Shameless self-bump, does no one else have any suggestions or tips or anything on how to improve it?

Or is getting a meaningful increase in the other stats really not possible given the amount of rechage I want to maintain?

  14. Go for smashing/lethal defense with the Scorpion pool. A few sets of Kin Combats, Weave, CJ and you're good to go. Don't build for softcap counting RI. RI is fantastic but not realistic to softcap yourself against large groups or AVs.

Getting about 70%ish global recharge will make AM and Hasten both perma in conjunction with one another (assuming good recharge slotting). I'm sitting at about 85%, will be at 95% come i19. I find it to be more than enough for my needs. AM well slotted for endurance will give you upwards of 4 end/sec, so even spamming Fire AoEs it takes some doing to put a dent in your end bar.

You will still want as much end rdx as you can get in Fireball and RoF. RoF in particular is a big end hog.

I found with my Fire/Rad that the stuff that got me to that level of recharge gave me all the recovery I needed with AM. He's got a Numina +/+ and a Miracle in Health too.

Fire/Rad is a flexible and powerful enough build that you don't need to sacrifice your attacks to make him AV/GM solo-capable. Especially with the i19 Fitness changes. Fire Breath you could skip, but definitely take Fireball and Rain of Fire. Rain of Fire doublescourges, the slow stacks with LR and it generally does boatloads of damage. Fireball is the TAoE that spoils all other TAoEs for you

For general Rad stuff and slotting, I've got a Rad guide in my sig if you want to take a look. I've gotta update it since I've rerolled my Rad from Sonic/ to Fire/ but most of the info is still good.

    Hope that helps

However, redside ATs don't cater to the trinity like blueside does, mainly due to the absence of a Tanker equivalent. Without that focus in ATs, the trinity becomes less efficient and, consequently, used less often.

Then it becomes a matter of what works in your particular circumstance. Just like teaming without a Tanker blueside, you have to change your expectations when teaming redside. Controls and buffs/debuffs become the most efficient options remaining, which leads to some teams looking down on Stalkers.

There will be some circumstances where this outperforms the trinity (e.g. tightly packed mobs waiting for you with plenty of space between packs). It can be more engaging for the player, because the flow of combat won't be quite so regimented, which may or may not be a selling point to a particular player. That bit of added chaos also carries additional risk. You can mitigate that risk to a degree, but not to the same degree a blueside trinity team can. That's not a gamebreaking issue, just something to remember when playing redside.
Higher risk, almost certainly. Lower reward? No, quite the opposite.

Killing stuff gets you rewards. With the exception of the blaster who is offense incarnate, Redside ATs are much more offensive. They do more damage, they kill faster so as a result they get rewards faster.

This idea that Redside teams are somehow a shadow of their Blueside counterparts and will only function if they've got space and time to rest their weary selves after each fight is laughable.

Let me guess, you play Tankers?

I was under the impression that the P.Shifter proc was only really worth it after you've maxed out on ED for Stamina. Like as a 4th slot. Taking out the end mod for the proc drops me to 3.26/sec, not sure what the proc works out to over time so I dunno if that's worth it.

Yeah, it's true that the only thing that benefits from the high recharge is SC. I'm generally recharge-crazy, but this is a build which doesn't really need a great deal.

So I guess I should draw up some builds that do have stuff slotted how I want and see how much recharge I can get. Weigh up having higher +hp/regen/rec versus the extra recharge.

Right now I'm leaning towards recharge because the more I can use my best powers the better (generally). CS crits do insta-recharge PS but high recharge will help all the time, as well as allow me to use CS more often. High recharge is more reliable than crits for ensuring good uptime on PS, I've found.

The other thing making me lean towards recharge is that if I'm running low on health or endurance in a tough fight, I can pop green or blue insp. There's no recharge increasing inspiration

Although...out of curiosity to see what I was missing, I took 2 slots from an attack and chucked them into True Grit. Adding a second heal IO and a res IO only bumps me up 50 hp and 3% exotic res. That doesn't seem particularly worth it.

I say done...ish because that's not my actual build. That's what I've got planned so far for my i19 build, but not totally happy with it, hence the thread. My current build is pretty similar, just without QS, Confront and OWtS. Have the +3% uniques in True Grit, took Body Mastery for PP and CP.
  21. So KM/SD, yeah?

I've not been able to come up with a build I'm really happy with for my KM/SD Scrapper. I think its a combination of me being bad at melee builds and the absurd requirements I set for the build.

Basically, standard softcapping stuff but I want absurd amounts of recharge. Like, I may not be able to climax without snapping the neck of a lowbie Defender, but I can't even get halfway there without at least 90% recharge

Nah, in all seriousness I wanted huge amounts of recharge because more recharge = moar SC + moar PS. The more I can exploit the massive damage buff from PS and telenuke spawns the better.

So I've been able to come up with a build that has softcapped defenses and an amount of recharge I'm happy with, its the values I've got for other stuff like +hp, +regen, +rec and def debuff res that I'm not satisfied with.

I think it's very possible to get the levels of recharge I want and eke out better values for the other stuff, so I present this build for your persusal, Scrapper gurus.

Building it with i19 in mind, so to see it you'll need to be running the updated Mids.

    Notes:

lol, u took Confront? Yeah. There wasn't really anything else I wanted and would be good with the default slot. The way I see it, melee bring two things to teams. Damage and aggro control. I figure Confront will at least be occasionally useful.

Endurance consumption. I'd like to not be gasping for breath after one fight or need blues to function. Running my standard toggles (Deflection, BA, AAO, Tough, CJ and Weave) I'm at .79 end/sec. Given 3.45 end/sec recovery, I think that's okayish but getting more recovery would be really nice.

QS is 1 slotted. Sadface. If I could see a way to give this another slot or 2, I would. My live build doesn't even have it, heh. I do notice tiny gaps in my attack chain for DPS stuff like Pylons and AV soloing and it'll help maintain a better/consistently higher PS buff so I'm glad I was at least able to fit it in.

I'd also like to have True Grit better slotted, but I don't see where I could take slots from for it. The only fat I can see to trim would be the end rdx on CS, but I like to use CS a lot and without the 6th slot it goes up to 13 end which is a fair chunk.

I think a lot of my problems with the build could stem from me having built it badly from the ground up, so feel free to tear it to the ground and redo it entirely if you want

As for pricing and stuff, eh, no budget I guess. Everything I've got slotted in that build I already have, bar the Ragnaroks which I've got in storage.

    Thanks in advance

Not in my experience. A single good Kin can have a Brute damage capped most of the time if there are big spawns. You need good recharge on Fulcrum Shift, that's where Siphon Speed comes in. It's not difficult to cap a Brute, especially since their cap got lowered.

All you really need is a Kin and big spawns. So either with a full team or the difficulty cranked up. Hardly "very specialized".

My question is one of aesthetics. How silly does this combo look in actual game? I know, odd one, but it's mine. I just imagine all the hand waving and whooshing mumbo jumbo has to look odd with the shield.
This was/is actually a thing for me.

There is still some handwaving and wooshy swooshy, but there's a lot less so than without the shield. What's cool is that with most of the animations one hand will be doing the KM swooshy stuff but the other will be holding the shield to the side or in front of you. It looks cool, imo.

I really like how all the first three attacks look with the shield. I think they look a lot sillier with both hands, so I liked how using the shield toned them down a lot.

What's awesome is the Burst animation with the shield out. You gather the energy with one hand, but when you slam it into the ground your shield arm goes above your head. It's like a 300 pose or something. One sec, lemme take a screenshot.

    From the back pic

    Front pic

Concentrated Strike, however, I'm not super keen on. On the one hand, I think the normal animation looks ridiculously goofy and the shield takes it down to one arm which is a lot less goofy. On the other, you've still got a little flailing with that one arm.

I've pretty much gotten used to it. CS hitting like a freight train helps

So uh, I'd say check out the animations in the character creation screen. While you can't check out the KM animations with the shield out (which is totally dumb), you can see CS and see how you like it. Watch CS a bunch, decide if a less silly version is going to be too silly for you. The first three attacks you can probably try out properly.

Make a KM/SD, play to 4 and take the first 3 attacks, see how you like the aethetics. You're going to be using QS, BB and SB much more than you'll be using CS, so that would be the bigger issue imo. I really liked how they looked, which meant it was just CS that was a sticking point.
