Nope.
I like PvE because enemies are predictable, and I have some degree of control over the situation... Some degree.
In PvP, it's always 'Rock beats Scissors', and I'm always Scissors; I play my concept builds vs. Min/Maxer builds, and I don't really expect to win, so I don't put much attempt into it in general. -
I was waiting for someone to pick up on that.
You see, a lot of people on Guardian channel, and a few around the forums have been complaining that there's no real challenges.
These mechanics, however, would make some interesting challenges here and there:
- A lack of rezzing
- Splitting teams up
- Being 'infected' by viruses (debuffs)
- etc.
I would never dream of incorporating all/several of these into a mission or a taskforce.
Thanks for playing! -

You have one; BRAWL.
There's a reason CO is failing; one of them happens to be this idea 'OMG ENERGY BUILDER MEANS MOAR ACTION!'
/no
/unsigned
/jranger
/gogojpowerranger
Edit: You can also Block; too. Just pick up a Tanker, Scrapper, Brute, Stalker, or a Mastermind... Especially the Mastermind, since the 'Defense Mode' really feels more like a block than the toggles and clicks. -
/signed
Unfortunately, I don't see this type of mission as being something too frequent.
This looks more like some kind of crazy Ouroboros challenge. -
Quote:I hadn't noticed those nipple plates until you pointed them out, strangely enough.I'd rather see them get a complete overhaul, really. Psyche's costume is particularly, in my opinion, ugly and offensive - the superhero equivalent of nipple tassles.
The New Praetorian looks are all pretty awesome, I'd like to see the "classic" NPCs get a similar update.
Thanks! -
Quote:The devs aren't 'Anti-Farm', they're more... Discouraging of it; it's why they buffed Behemoths that one time; remember?Well, I think the ability to set your missions for a full team when you're solo is surely a sign that the devs don't hate all farming
The message seems to be "farm if you want to - just don't do it in the AE"
I cannot speak for the devs, but I'd guess that AE was their new toy; their BABY, and after spending such a buttload of time on it, they didn't want to see it gone to the farmers as it were.
Other than that? What can you do but hope, give the devs the benefit of the doubt and move on. -

As long as we have one thing:
Enforce Merriment: A power that affects other players by putting a Santa Hat on their head for 5 minutes.
Yes, this power will be 'griefed', but it's a Santa Hat. Offer a togglable menorah if need-be. -
Quote:Then they go on your regular list of shmucks who have the @billioncharactersoftext in their next. The problem with the bolded part is what if you become or want to become friends with more than one?
And Sam; I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but in the issue of cosmetics, there was/is an option to hide the globals in the CO chat. -
I'll admit, I LOVE the idea of being able to name someone anything I want to.
Playing Champions Online, I made Wraith, Zero, Abyss, Guardian Angel, Darkfrost, and Gardenhose Champion.
I had fun; I got those names because I wanted them, it didn't break my immersion, despite what the crowd calls out for it to do, and it made me feel good to not have to be restricted by said names.
This, however, is subject to technical difficulties by the playerbase, as per Memphis_Bill said. Yes, the '@Globalname' would fix it, but it would be complicated and annoying to type everytime.
Of course, there could be a list! A Friends List that would only accept one 'Wraith' and one 'Zero' and one 'Superhumanman'; on this list, you wouldn't HAVE to type the /Global in, you'd just type the name and the system remembers for itself.
Me? I like the idea, but I'm not stupid enough to think that my likes are the community's likes. -
So, I was browsing via the terror of my time that is 'Stumbleupon' when I came up with this little gem:
http://gawno.com/2009/11/alter-ego-o...mers-revealed/
Normally I would've blown right through it and stumbled onward, but I was caught by the first picture of two people who play CoH! What a joy! It's good to know that the game still exists beyond our community (I joke, of course.)
I found roughly 4-5 people in that article who play City of Heroes/Villains and found it to be rather interesting to hear how their alter egos stack up against them.
My question to the community is... How does your alter ego look? The person behind the smoke and the mirrors in the land of Oz? Is there a big, bad gargoyle behind the wizard, or just someone humble who loves life and loves to laugh? Do you think you'd make a good place in that article? -
Nemesis would get a digital organizer. He and the Clockwork King would hang out and talk about how there's no good machinists running around Paragon.
Tyrant would get a restraining order from Dominatrix-- his granddaughter whom we can all assume doesn't fit the part.
Imperious would get his own Nictus sword and shield because it looks completely awesome, and who doesn't want one?
Arachnos Operatives would be given a GENERIC CARE PACKAGE.
Jurassik would be given a Corvette to shove onto his mallet.
Sunstorm would be given sunscreen.
Statesman would receive a brand new Rolex from the Freedom Phalanx with a 'Lifetime Warranty'. He intends to test out whether or not they're serious. -
This one's a two-parter!
What do Frozen Armor, Wet Ice, Glacial Armor, and Energy Absorption have in common?
They both use that same, bulky, clunky ice armor model that's been around since beta and hasn't been looked at/updated once.
Don't get me wrong, I know how the community can take a single tiny change and make it into Armageddon, but I think that Ice Armor deserves a bit more love; give it some additional models for armor! A few things less bulky/clunky-- hell, make it shiny once GR hits stores and it'll look more like ice!
All I'm saying is that when 4 out of 9 powers in a set give you the same-looking armor, it could use some tweaking.
Part #2!
Ice Control is an awesome powerset! It truly is, but as I was looking over Earth Control, I was fascinated that you can use Crystals/Lava instead of Earth! That was pretty awesome! It made me think 'Why can't we do this for anything else?'
Ice Armor came to mind.
I'd like to propose an alternate set of meshes/textures; SNOW!
That's right- snow. For some of these, you could take the Earth Control animations, smooth them over and color them white and it'll look more than convincing, I'd like to say! (Then again, SCR applies.)
For the Tier 9? You build a Snowman; not quite a Winter Lord, but something that looks almost similar to the Coral Guardians, but with a smoother mesh.
Is this acceptable to the community as an idea? -
Had I made enough money, I'd offer to pay for your account.
Unfortunately, retail doesn't allow me a very loose budget.
Take care of yourself, Rose; you'll be in our hearts and minds here at CoH. -
Santa Claus - Martial Arts/Ninjitsu Stalker
What, how else do you expect him to move around the world? And the martial arts? Keep those Reindeer in line. -
I tell ya', it's been a rough day, all.
I work in retail, so you can imagine that we were so clutster-f%#& busy that my head was spinning just a few hours in. An 8 hour shift with 2 hours of sleep under my belt.
Two hours into my shift I find some cheap apple juice and think "Oooh, carbs! I'll need that energy!"
Turns out what I was saying was "Oooh! I can spend my shift buying immodium and sitting on the throne!" As you can imagine, it put a slight damper on things.
But it snowed! I'm in Texas now, and it's certainly a white Christmas! Granted, it started snowing before I left, so driving in the snow was going to prove challenging- my car is barely ready to drive in normal weather! And I'm 2 towns away from home!
So I snail it home, hoping to catch some of the winter event and work on my Ski Slope badges. At the brisk speed of ~15 in a 45mph zone, no one's moving very fast, and every swerve, skid, and red light is enough to make my heart stop. But I make it two towns over and I get to the main road!
The main road that leads to my house is a narrow, 2-lane road with way too many cars on it at any given time. Going possibly in the single digits of speed, I continue forward until I see someone pulling out! Someone from my left!
I push down the brake pedal, but it's too late! A loud and vaguely family 'cTHUNK' echos in my head as I watch my car slide into theirs and then roll down into the nearby ditch.
Turns out the Holidays isn't too bad! The person I hit wasn't moved off the road, so she offers me a ride home! In the process of sprinting to her car I lose my hat and by the time I actually reach her, there's a nice pick-up truck with a driver holding my hat out for me! Glee and jubilation, it was a reunion!
So, here I am, with my car still stuck in a ditch, AARP busy until tomorrow morning, and ready to hang out and play a little CoH. I can only ask those around me... Any room on the team?
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Kwanzaa, Happy Ramadan, Joyous Winter Solstice, Happy Samhain, and a content Atheists' Day! -
I'd like to propose a Taskforce with several serious challenges for those who claim to not be challenged enough by the game itself.
As for the storyline/plot/enemies? I don't really know. Let's just say they're +2 - +4.
Mission 1: A typical mission, but within the mission itself, Healing powers are reduced by 1/2, and players cannot be resurrected via other players. Enemies, however, have powers like Unchain Essence (but enemy-esque versions.) This would give sets that rely on Healing/DP a run for their money. In addition: Inherents do not work on this map. I realize that some ATs rely on inherents more than others; sorry. You're SOL. This isn't meant to provide an equal challenge to EVERY Archetype/Powerset combination.
Mission 2: The entire team is separated! 8 different, small maps that require the player to solo their way through; a nightmare for a team depending on their Healer/Buffer. If a player is defeated at this mission, they will not be able to go on. Period. They either have the option to quit the Taskforce as an individual or the team restarts entirely.
Mission 3: Toggles do not work. At all. Friendly healing does damage to allies and enemies within radius. This mission works as a counter for the toggle-heavy sets. Does it favor certain powersets? Yes; that's part of the challenge.
Mission 4: Healing and Damage are completely reversed; this includes Health's passive regen, which will be converted into DoT (your default regen is not considered in this, however.) You have your team to help you, but you're going to need some help from those Healers/Buffers. In addition, pets/henchmen do not work in this mission! Any pets/henchmen immediately become hostile towards their summoner!
Mission 5: Your team is infected with a Supervirus! This ability randomly cancels out powers for a short period of time; including toggles, which it can drop if cancelling them out. In addition; every 60 seconds, the Supervirus will cause your character to vomit and thus drop all toggles. There are temporary cures for this Supervirus; at the back of the map. In addition, this map doesn't allow for resurrection. Think you can time your plays just right to do everything in a minute?
Mission 6: You and your team are at a state of Confusion; you are able to target both friends and enemies and affect them equally. This will ensure that players pay attention to their AoEs and think carefully about their next move. This mission follows Mission 4's rule on pets and hostility.
Mission 7: This mission has a 30:00 timer. The team suffers no default penalties aside from not being able to resurrect via ally, nor step back INTO the mission upon defeat. The team is grouped up and droves of enemies are thrown at them. From 30-25, it's minions. 25-20, it's lieutenants, 20-10, bosses, 10-5, elite bosses, 5-0 Arch-villains with a 1-0 minute addition of a Supervillain (similar to Reichsman or Lord of Winter-- their own category.)
Once you complete this: Congratulations; you're now ready to play Dragonforce on Expert!
I KNOW that the community can give me some improvements/tweaking on this idea to make it more gruesome. I'd really like to hear it. -
The powerset itself strikes me as something that shouldn't have made it past beta. The devs should've taken another look and said 'Hmm... Well, why don't we work on this a bit more?' and then release it later on.
My biggest complaints about the set:
- No KB protection. I don't need to elaborate on that.
- Completely hides the costume! CoH is famous for it's costume creator, and this set just neuters it.
- Intense NEED for toggles. 4 toggles for defense, 3 offer some sort of Aura.
- Lack of decent auras: Damage vs. Endurance; none of them are worth it. Sorry to say.
- Dark Regeneration, as mentioned, heals for about 300% of your health. Would be spectacular if it mattered. :P
- Soul Transfer - Good idea, but we don't need more sets that have a Tier 9 that requires you to die. -
Quote:Still, some mainstream advertising would be pretty nice.I'd imagine that with the release of GR, we'll be getting a decent amount of advertising. But probably not before then.
Oh, and hire Dark_Respite. Have her slave away making videos for a 'nominal fee' and put 'em up as commercials, along with critics' ratings of the game.
Seriously, if I hear one more 'Night Elf Mohawk' commercial I'm gonna cutabitch. -
As someone who just finished a semester of Applied Organizational and Industrial Psychology, this thread threw me off.
"Are they conducting a sacred cow hunt? Are they removing paper cow? How 'bout time cow?!"
Stupid college. -
The "Siggy Rule" for Rare Recipes:
Everyone gives all their rare recipes to Siggy. I hope this catches on! -
It's called a Free Market. Of course prices are high; it's easier than working for them.
