Quote:That's a fair assessment, but doesn't it do just that when loading Robotic Arm? If it doesn't do that, then what exactly IS it loading?Apparently, the main problem is the extra resources needed to render 2 sets of textures for the arms.
I understand that, in development, loading these features may have looked like a tasking assignment, but the times are far-changed- I think giving it a second (or third) look with the current technological limits would be great.
If nothing else, to give the player a greater feeling of control over the costume of their Hero/Villain- the Resistance pieces were very nice, but I think proliferation of such a thing would not be enough.
Don't get me wrong- I'd love to have the option of selecting a shoulder and then be given an option in a sub-menu: Both, Right Only, Left Only, but I giving us two different kinds of shoulders per model would also be pretty nice. -
Recently I got a shiny, new Paragon Rewards token, which I celebrated with the Fire and Ice costume bit (the one with the awesome sword and Phoenix wings.)
What this set also came with (under the strange guise of "Robotic Arm 1") were three new arms; Fire, Ice and Crystal. I apologize if those names are not accurate, but that's the general theme of them. They're large, well-textured arms that have a sort of "blocky" look to them that goes excellently with the set- the Crystal arm, in particular, is fantastic.
However, the Crystal arm also comes with a large piece on the shoulder. This was fine until I was trying to decide shoulders of my own and realized that they were still symmetrical and if I were to put anything on it at all, it would cause some major clipping issues. Not fun, but I can deal.
My question is, to my lovely devs... What is the technical limitation that's preventing making our Costume Creator (easily CoH's biggest asset) asymmetrical?
This isn't some guy trying to express dissatisfaction with free VIP rewards, or blaming the devs that they can't do anything right and eat ponies under the light of a full moon- this is an actual question at this point.
So many resources have been funneled into the Costume Creator that it seems a bit strange, after almost 23 issues passing and close to 8 years in the making, that we're still limited by making symmetrical costumes, when in fact, having the option of asymmetry would be such an improvement.
So, an honest question, posed with an honest discussion: Devs, what is holding it back?
And to the rest of everyone- do you think this is important? Being able to select 2 different shoulders, gloves and boots? Or do you find it not too terribly big of a deal?
Thanks for reading. Have a good day. -

I'd pay between 400-800 PPs for some fresh animation on an older powerset.
Money talks- I think the Paragon Market really paints the community into a place of participation where they can voice their desires with their cold, plastic credit cards. -

If I could only transfer all my badges to a new toon, I'd make me a new Staff/Willpower main.
Sigh- I'll make do without my shineys. -

That last power idea needs some work- no way in hell should someone else's character have to be drained of endurance without their permission/use of a nuke.
Beyond that? It looks a lot like Widow Training and is Leadership turned into a full-fledged powerset.
Sorry, friend, but I can't quite get behind the idea. -
Villains will always be lacking when compared to Heroes- CoV was much akin to a large expansion pack... Granted, with plenty of new, fun stuff to do, an expansion pack, nonetheless.
The zones are what drive people away more than anything- not only are there so fewer zones, but they all blur the line between City and Hazard zones, making it difficult to get accustomed to. Not to mention the dingyness?
Villain ATs are another issue- before Alignment, they had ill-defined roles that most people couldn't get a grasp on. Most people generally equated Brute = Tank, Stalker = Scrapper, Corruptor = Blaster/Defender, Dominator = Controller and Mastermind = ???
The Villain stories are also very lacking. For Heroes, it's good to do the right thing, but Villains most often feel they should be independent, rather than relying on contacts for their source of information, missions and goals. For a Villain, it feels very much like you're just helping a bigger fish along the stream and then have to fight back when it tries to eat you. -
Quote:Perhaps I'm missing something- can you elaborate what normal-mapped faces are?Agreed. 'Legacy' options should be kept, with ultra-mode level new stuff added on top. And yes, faces too as well as hair. But NOT Normal mapped faces, for the love of pete!
And why you're involving Pete? He seemed so blissfully removed from it all. -
Of all the things I desperately want to see in CoH, the prospect of removing the RIDICULOUS effects of Super Speed remains close to the top.
/signed and /signed again. -
Quote:Hoods with hair.Right now Talons of vengeance.
I want those metallic bracers and talons boots, tattered waist-capes, scales tights, hoods and hoods with hair.
But this would be for females.
Unisex costume I think it would be between AWESOME Dark knights from Night Ward or DA's Tsoo with sashes, glowing tattoos and conical hats.

Quote:I love the manilla envelope-looking mousepad. It makes my day. Here's my space!
Textbooks from 8 or 9 years ago boost my monitors to ergonomic heights. My desktop background rotates through commissions I've had done over on deviantART.
I have my little map of the Rogue Isles right above my monitor, and the /em invent cube that Layla made me close at hand. When you squeeze it, it glows!
Also nearby are personal grooming supplies. I often do my nails or floss while while waiting for trials to form. Vitamins, too. Gotta stay Strong & Pretty, yannow. -
Quote:I'm learning Sunshine of your Love (the bridge is pretty difficult for me right now) and Barracuda (chorus gives me some problems.)What's to be ashamed of? That's a very nice setup. I particularly like how simple and clean you keep it, yet still have room for a sub-woofer and a guitar. Are you by chance learning to be able to play the CoH theme?
I'm also learning Puscifer's "Conditions of my Parole", but I haven't made the same progress on that just yet.
I'm self-conscious because, rather than spending my money on, say, tuition, I built a $800 rig and got about $300 of peripherals to go with it. -
I'd settle for a flypose emote that makes you look like you're steering an invisible jet.

Quote:I can completely agree to that much. That's why they shouldn't replace them, but allow multiple texture options for each (i.e. like a lot of the parts that have shape, then a texture). Different styles and patterns in the hair, including the original style. I like the old styles more than the new ones (mostly), but the old textures look really bad compared to the rest of the current items.
I think roughly 95% of my characters' costumes are composed of new-model stuff like Circle of Thorns, Imperial Defense, Warrior, etc.
And the hair- again, I'd pay 400-800 points in a NY minute for a new pack of hair for male and female. -
Quote:Honestly, I'd just like to see an AT that shares the Mastermind primaries to some degree. All of this can be done with existing ability types, using the MM archetype. Instead of an AT buff when pets are near, you just give the pets themselves in a new MM primary, a buff aura.
There is no point making a new AT that needs all new power sets, when you could make more power sets for an existing AT (The MM) and get the same gameplay while retaining a support set, and giving more primary sets to an AT that is already low on sets.
Maybe I'm just going crazy, but it seems to me that the more proliferated a Primary becomes, the more powersets you're going to see being made available in the Paragon Market. -
I don't know if I should be proud, or ashamed of mine;

Quote:I would not mind this, but I can see some people coming to complain.I agree with this post. Don't just give us MOAR HAIR, but also update the older hairstyles to the post ultra mode look.
When it comes to costumes, the community is ironclad about retroactive changes to their beloved pieces. Gladiator shoulders, anyone? -
While I'd agree that Mastermind pets could use some proliferation to a new archetype, I'd be cautious to just throw them in there.
Perhaps, if anything, a sort of Warlord Archetype would involve pets without making them the center focus- perhaps doing away with one of the buffs involved in the process in order to make room for more offensive capabilities unrelated to Henchmen.
Also, perhaps an Inherent that works like a reverse Supremacy; for whenever your Henchmen are near, you get a buff. -

I can't be the only one laughing over someone who wants a free weekend on a game that's free to play.
Can I? -
/meh.
No more unlocking costumes at 50 without any other recourse. Between Vanguard, Roman, Rularuu sets and a few others, I don't want to have my options limited through some of the best parts of a character- the leveling phase. -
/signed for a Tech/Natural option for Controllers.
/unsigned for a lot of what's presented here. As good as the ideas may be, a lot of what's posted here could use some serious refinement before it goes out into the happy, happy world.
Edit: Also, Dominator Assault sets focus on a mixture of Melee/Ranged and maybe a buff thrown in. Beam Rifle would not be an acceptable cut-and-paste substitute for an Assault. -
/unsigned for PvP-only.
/signed to make it more... compact.
I realize that, due to size issues of character models, the ice armor is a sort of one-size-fits-all, but if they could find something that makes it feel more like a sheath over the player rather than replacing them with polygons, I'd LOVE it.
