So much animosity; I have never felt it over a single post.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Man falling off a cliff: NNOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... [splat]
The lack of 'epic gear' is what keeps me playing THIS game. If it ever decided to go with a WoW style of looting, I'd be the first out. It may not seem like a big issue to some, but it is.
Not only that, but most values only go from 0 - 100%. If you were to give one piece of equipment every 2 levels, you'd still have 25% of something augmented/resisted/enhanced- Not a specific power, but your character. That's not even taking into account all the useless 'gear' between the different archetypes, since our Multiple Builds system does not grant us any new powers beyond power pools and ancillaries. -
"There's an app for just about... Anything."
Sure? Why not? -
/signed sorta.
I'd like the spawns to come directly after another, sure, but not all at once, or whenever someone presses a button, or something. -
I've actually been running most TFs just fine. The ones that haven't been running just fine are those that force me to team with dinguses who want to be Tankfenders and Conscrappers
-
I'm ashamed to say I've never seen that short before now.
I can die happily now. -
Champions. Hell maybe it was just my perception. The framerate on that game is like a bad rollercoaster.

Quote:I know, it was a complete cluster-eff when they made Conserve Power into Energize.Replace a power from a powerset that's been there for years just because it "might" be a fun idea. Are you kidding?
I have no incredible love for Havoc Punch and I actually do like the idea of the whip power you suggested. But I would never, ever suggest that a power ever be completely REPLACED by another power. Can you imagine how many people would likely scream bloody murder over that? When the Devs tried that for the power pools a few Issues ago it lasted about a week in beta before they wisely backed off that idea.
Now if there was a way to add a whip power to that powerset as an ALTERNATIVE to Havoc Punch then that'd be cool. Basically the word "replace" is a very loaded one as far as powersets go and you should probably be more careful in how you phrased what you meant. I realize you probably just meant something like an "animation replacement" for that Havoc Punch but as pointed out by Shadow State it might not have been totally obvious what you meant.
But I'm being harsh right now. Sure, the OPTION to change it to a whip would be nice, but I'd also suggest modifying melee range to close-ranged (yes, technically making it a ranged-damage power.) Not to mention a sweet, new icon for a whip attack.
Again, just my personal preference. -

Quote:I don't know about that. Usually when people say 'used' as in 'past tense', it drives me to think 'what caused them to no longer use this system?' My answer is usually found in either flaws in the old mechanic or greater efficiency in the new.We had something very much like this in the old version of the combat system in SW:G before the NGE. It worked fantastic, not flawlessly, but it was great. Just saying.
As back to CO? The game itself looks like someone went onto the Suggestion forums, gave a single glance and said "Screw it, I can make ALL these people happy and make my OWN game!" And so they got Dual Pistols which really aren't dual pistols, but part of a lots-of-guns-and-stuff set, they got color customization where you're free to make your powers any shade of OMGSATURATED you want, they got weather which does absolute dick, they got underwater zones which makes characters look like autistic dolphins swimming about, they got their open zones where there are a whopping 5 of them, and they got an Archetype-less system, where people can take min/maxing to a whole new level, and show them just how important the PvP crowd is. -
Quote:Any reason why?I'd be all for adding a whip theme under electric melee's customization options, would be great for all the elemental sets to have more veriety of attack, but to completely replace Havoc Punch is a no go.
I'm not adamant about the total conversion, but I think it would be nice to have a power replace. Yeah, I could see it not working too well with concepts, true, but any other reason? -
I've spoken to some good GMs and bad GMs, and this thread seems more to be about the quality of them than the +5 PPs.
I once had a GM essentially tell me that things were my fault, that I did something wrong when I didn't, etc (Like, I REALLY didn't do the wrong thing they claimed.)
And I once had a GM that helped me kill an EB so I could finish the mission. In hindsight, it really surprised me. To make them feel better, I even turned off my exp while they did so. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. -
Can we say neither? I think I'd cut myself on jagged polygons.

Quote:It's a figure of speech, gramps (see, just like that.) Anyone that's willing to say 'If you don't like it quit the SG' should be met with more than a dash of criticism because that's an attitude that neither the community, nor the devs want to persue. There are plenty of great options in this game that you can bypass without batting an eyelash (Like Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, if you happened to fall in love with AE) but when it comes to vulgarity, things change drastically.Aaaaaaaaannd, there it is. BBQ Pork: this is the vitriol I was talking about.
Sigium: If you don't like the idea, fine. Leave the smart-*** commentary at the door. BTW, while I may only have a few posts to this forum - mostly due to attitudes like yours - compared to your lordly number, I'm far from your junior. In fact, according to your bio I'm old enough to be your father. So, watch the condescension, sonny.
Quote:That being said, you do have a point. How about this: images would have to be uploaded and vetted before passing into the game system? A turn-around time of 48 hours would give the devs (or more likely some poor intern) a chance to scan thru the images and make sure everything was on the up-and-up. Tack on a charge of 50 cents (?) for each image to absorb costs and minimize tomfoolery. Also, adult content doesn't automatically equate with lawsuits. SecondLife is FULL of sex and nudity of the most aggressive nature and last I checked (earlier today) they were still up and running.
2. Second Life is a VERY poor example. For one, it's been featured on multiple news sites for explicit, pornographic and borderline-illegal, user-made content, and secondly, the idea of the game is it's open-source nature; it's one of the game's biggest selling points, in fact. City of Heroes doesn't function that way (despite what some AE-lovers scream.) We rely on the foundation we've already laid out for the Superhero MMO world, rather than the ability to give players freedom over graphic nudity, explicit content, and thensome.

Good day, chap! -
Yeah, you heard me. A lot of people are very against the idea of using whips, considering the size and scaling issues of such concepts provides exceptional difficulties whne trying to use it on larger foes.
But what about a single animation? A simple winding back and lunging forward? Would this be possible? And if so... Could we port it over to Electric Melee?
Now, I know what you're thinking, there's nothing wrong with Electric Melee! This is true, this is very true, but I was kinda sad, since it's one of the few elemental sets without an elemental weapon attached to it (other than Dark.)
My request is to replace Havok Punch with Lightning Lash; a simple, fast whip animation that has all the same effects, but uses the stylish effect of said whip. No drawing/redrawing, and the biggest change would be the name and POSSIBLY changing the range from melee to 'Close'. No holds other than what Havok Punch already has, no damage/recharge/endurance changes.
Why? Well, because it would be pretty cool, and we wouldn't have to see Air Superiority with yet another elemental power attached to it, calling it something else. I think that would be pretty dern awesome.
Next time on Useless Suggestions: Ice Sword becomes Ice Staff! D: -
I seriously beg to differ. This is like saying 'The best way to deal with a child with ADD is to give him AS MUCH stuff as he'll ever need to play with'. If you ever look at the CO population, you might just see how close and accurate that is. :P

Quote:I have that exact power on one of my characters and I can assure you, it hits out of melee distance. Not only this, but it does, as it mentions 'Sphere' radius of damage. To be fair, Electricity does have a PBAOE attack Sparkstorm that is similar to Lightning Field in effect, but does a lot of damage and is more of a click power. It is my character's primary attack. It is not a melee attack, but you have to be in melee range to be effective.
Quote:Darkness also has a melee ranged attack that does lots of damage and transfers health to you. Kind of like Siphon Life.
Quote:So while there are no elemental melee attacks, there are elemental melee ranged attacks.
Quote:My character started out (in open beta) as a copy of a pen & paper character that was really strong and could teleport and used a baton to beat people up. But you only have single sword, with no weapon customization. So already my concept was blown, and once I found out how good Sparkstorm was, I totally abandoned the original concept.
Too much temptation? I have yet to find a way to NOT min/max in that game and do decent damage. -
-
Quote:Actually, I care about the damage type. It's not a BIG issue, but it's something that bothered me greatly. There are no elemental weapon attacks, no elemental melee, not a single one. There were so very many gaps in so very many frameworks that I found myself breaking concepts just so I could avoid redundant powers. The lack of energy-type melee attacks of any kind really bothered me as well, incidentally. You'd have thought that their much-vaunted power customization would allow you to just tack something neat-looking onto Might or Unarmed MA attacks. "Who cares about the damage type, I just want it to look like he's punching people with burning fists."
Quote:But really, with the advanced technology of most any superhero universe, carrying drones and mines is a non-issue to rationalize. Just think of it as a super-powered arms race. "My powers didn't do it by themselves, so I stopped by Nerdy Ned's Nuclear Nonsequiturs and loaded up."
Yeah? Well, when you're toting that you're revolutionizing the Superhero/MMO world, it helps to feel LIKE A HERO. In fact, that's why many people play these games over fantasy games. -
Quote:That's not how it works, junior. This game is rated T for Teen. You upgrade this game to allow user-created images throughout bases? It immediately gets hyped up to M, or RP.As to porn and bad taste - these images would be inside a base, not open to viewing by the public. If you are offended by the images that the Leader decides to use to decorate his base - quit the group. You could also consider talking to him about it like an adult. Just an idea.
For copyright and trademark violations - same rules as for character concepts: if they catch you, the whiteboard gets deleted (without any refund on the initial purchase price as a punishment?). I would assume there would be some form of general "rules acceptance" screen the Builder would have to click on, just like when you start up and log on the game itself. This would protect the company from any liability.
Anyway, we are again talking about a space that is only available to people in the same SG. Presuming they have somewhat similar tastes/outlooks: why would they be offended or rat you out?
Surprise surprise, children and young teens DO play this game, and it is illegal to subject them to such things. NCSoft would have a clusterf*ck day if they had to deal with all of the complaints, suits, etc. -
Quote:There are actually a good deal of builds that can flourish without Stamina. And this, combined with a VERY loose definition of Fitness is, makes it much easier... After all, I can say that I'm fit, when I'm not. I can say "Compared to this guy, I'm pretty swift... Compared to that guy, I've got Stamina... So she tells me. >_>"I dunno. Isn't this kind of down the same train of thought that has almost every character in CoH pick up Stamina and Hasten, no matter whether it fits the concept?
Is that the case? Well, half of it. I'm not the most swift guy out there, but if I were to make a character based off myself? Yeah, I'm swift compared to a few guys.
This other system, however, involves needing to launch small mines, summoning healing drones, etc. Don't even get me started on how limited the frameworks are; there's no melee for any elemental powers! D:<
Again, I've yet to see this. I like CoX's scheme of things; powers all rely on their recharge, so you can have multiple melee attacks, unlike the others, where a single melee attack is all you need, unless you want to add in a cone, or PBAoE. -
Never thought I'd agree with P_P on much of anything. This instance you speak of makes me cringe still. I found myself exploiting the Freedom, and gravitated towards the powers that didn't fit my concept, but made the game that much easier to play. Sure, there's a few powers here in there in different sets that benefit off the same set, but in comparison to what we've got?
I don't think the 'Open Powers' system is going to be the next big thing. -
/signed for Hawaiin shirts. It'll look perfect for my Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas costumes. >_>
As for all-day day? Imagine having Faultline all-day, and then doing Numina's TF? You'd never finish.
