  1. I absolutely love, love, love the Ninja Warrior Booster Pack, but have one complaint:

Can we please have access to the 'Warrior' belt without having to wear robes? I've been waiting for a belt like that for years, and think it would look absolutely perfect on some of my models that don't wear robes.

    Thanks so much.
  2. I'd love some new dance emotes...

Personally? I would've put them in the Natural Booster Pack. But maybe that's just me.
  3. Don't forget Vandal!

Really, let me think of all the awesome costume bits we've gotten for free...

    Exoproto
    Stealth
    Arctic
    Vandal
    Vines
    Ulterior
    Enforcer
    Jester

    Tons of new hairstyles
    Tons of new faces
    Tons of new aura combinations
    Flies Aura

I know I'm forgetting something, so I apologize.

Even those are a LOT of free costumes.
  4. I picture Positron sounding like Dr. Cox.

And for those of you who don't? Go through his taskforce and read the dialogue in his voice. It'll change the experience.
  5. I get that Tyrant started out as this main villain, who was cruel to everyone, screwing his Granddaughter, etc... But he's evolved since then, with the upcoming expansion; Going Rogue.

Why, oh why, is Tyrant still called 'Tyrant'? If you ask me, it seems so out of character. While Emperor Cole may be a dictator and an Emperor, he still casts himself to the public as a pretty alright guy... I mean, he's got his own city.

So why is he called 'Tyrant'? Wouldn't something less-villainous suit him better, considering he's not quite so villainous (to some) now?

Just a thought thrown out there.
  6. Sigium

    Your 1 thing?

Smoother models. Higher polygon count, and just all around more-smooth look.

More customization would also be a huge plus.
  7. This is a remarkably-good question. Ouroboros DOES tend to throw a monkeywrench into things.

    Kinda like what I'm suggesting?

Actually... With all due respect, crafting origin-related costume pieces would be MORE optional than Enhancement-crafting. The only different is that there are a grand total of 25 different crafting points: 1 per each origin (5), and then 5 level ranges per each origin (5x5).

But we get so much in this game for free already. In fact, there's so little that we actually have to put in work for that the embodiment of your quote pretty much sums up my feelings of the attitudes of far too many players.

    1. You're not being 'forced' to do anything. Costume pieces are purely aesthetic.

    2. Forcing player interaction? I draw a line at some point while playing an MMO: Don't force me on 17 'Collect 50 Artifacts of Useless' missions, don't force me to play in a certain zone, and don't force me to have to upgrade my entire character every level... Forcing player interaction? I'm sorry, but I have to think that you're nutters. In an MMORPG, player interaction is a prerequisite; it's one of the foundations of the game... Of the genre! If you have such a problem with 'forced player interaction', then do you not like support sets because it puts you in a role of teaming with someone? Or a taskforce because it requires teaming? Or Arch-villains, because they require (in many cases) a team?

    3. An 'impassable obstacle'? This idea isn't asking for a kidney, it's asking you to choose a single crafting specialization, and make some awesome costume bits. If you find you want some costumes from one and some from another, you're going to have to bite the bullet and interact with fellow human beings.

All in all, your entire argument comes off more pretentious than it does helpful. Had this been a reply for a console game that would involve achievements to unlock costume pieces or something, I'd have some sympathy, but this is a(n) MMO.

This wouldn't affect the character's skills at all - or damage bonuses, etc. It wouldn't even have a crafting "skill" to advance (barring the badges just for crafting "stuff.") Just levels where you can make different costume bits that would be purely costume bits - just like wings, rocket boots, etc. are now.

At least as I understand it.
    That's it, entirely.

Maybe I AM a goon for wanting to limit it by every 10 levels, but with enough effort put in by our glorious overlord (JLove) it could still be filled with glorious, glorious content.

There is NOTHING power-related to these new craft-able costumes. You don't gain a superboost from wearing your Level 50 Ancient Tech Bracers of Uber-minus-the-umlaut. They're just. There. For. Looks.

I CAN imagine people not liking this idea for one reason or another. I firmly apologize if this just isn't your cup of tea; if you don't like the idea of crafting aesthetic items.

But Sister... How did you manage to equate this to being related to powers? I couldn't have made it more clear that it doesn't affect performance if I titled this thread 'Costume Parts that do Nothing!"

Nope, nothing would be -locked- to anything, aside from the recipes that a person could learn... For instance? You could be a Magic-Origin--Tech-Crafter. You would be able to share Magic-Oriented costume bits with your Tech buddies, and vice verse.

Inf would be an issue, yes, but I continue to want to keep the level ranges up. I think we've got too many characters that are currently OVER-stimulated with content in some level ranges, and opening this up to all levels would not only add to that, but it could possibly give someone the feeling of "Glad that's done, now to move onto the real content."

There would be vendors for the default costume recipes in the SO Enhancement stores, but otherwise, I'm open to it... A new drop pool? Adding them right into the mix? Perhaps some would also come from quest rewards, I'm not entirely sure, honestly. I apologize for being so sketchy on that particular detail.

Sort of... Let's take an honest look... Let's think of WoW's crafting system, if we may? A little compare/contrast:

Compare: You need to search for recipes or buy them from vendors/Consignment House
Contrast: While WoW has weapons/armor/gadgets that affect your character, costume pieces are purely aesthetic.

Compare: Despite your race/class/origin/archetype you can select any crafting system.
Contrast: Many items in WoW are 'Soulbound', meaning that you cannot trade them. While any crafted costume bit would be consumed on use, they would all be trade-able.

Compare: This crafting system limits crafting skill level to the character level to prevent people from learning everything by level 1.
Contrast: There will be no 'crafting skill level' that would reach 450+, but rather just the level range of 1-10, 11-20 as previously mentioned. You won't need to grind recipes to learn new costume bits.

Compare: Crafting would offer costume pieces piece-by-piece... Arms, legs, chest, etc.
Contrast: This system wouldn't suck (he said with his nose in the air)

That's the basic idea, but you're entitled to hate if it you'd like to. I know the community has been a bit harsh on the idea of much of anything being unlocked, rather than just given away, but I'd actually like a bit of challenge.
  13. Threads like these remind me of why I cancelled my CO subscription.

    Thanks, devs!

Perhaps eventually you'll just get rid of the inherent and give 'Walk' it's own key option.
  14. Crafting is a tightrope of an idea... When people bring it up, the populace tends to gravitate towards 'Blacksmithing, Herbalism, Alchemy, Leatherworking, and Fishmining', a la WoW.

Then the other MMO came in and changed the game a bit, giving the user the choice to choose between 'Arms, Science, Mysticism' to select their specialty from those fields. Still, it felt so very incomplete.

I'd like to suggest the alternative to crafting... Costume Pieces.

Why costume pieces? Because everyone can craft any enhancement, and it would be nice to occasionally rely on others to make some other things.

There are five costume-crafting specialties: Natural, Technology, Science, Mutation, and Magic... How'd ya' guess?

YOU DO NOT NEED TO MATCH YOUR ORIGIN WITH THE CRAFT YOU CHOOSE, I'd like to point out.

For instance, technology will have different costume-crafting recipes than mutation, and will require different pieces of different types of salvage.

After you craft the costume, it becomes a piece of salvage, which you bring to the tailor to unlock the costume pieces themselves. As you go from 1 - 50, you'll be getting different recipes for different costume pieces which will, as necessary, be level-restricted to 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc. Costume drops, however, will remain as recipes.

So, what do people think? Origin-related shinies that don't really depend on your origin of choice? Crafting that won't actually affect the gameplay, but would be nice to have?

You may kindly pick this idea apart now.
  15. I loves me some rep of any denomination! As long as they're green, and preferably fluffy.
  16. Can we also have a temporary power that will kill any Native American foes, and those it doesn't kill are forced to assimilate into a vastly different culture riddled with racism and a loss of their own privileges as human beings?

Just trying for some historical accuracy here.

Trying to keep a Hero/Villian meter as well as a meter for each of multiple organizations might prove difficult.

Sure, there's a number of hero factions you could do work for (PPD, Wyvernn, Longbow, Vanguard to name a few), but there's a boatload of villian factions you could do missions for (Arachnos, Freakshow, Hellions, Skulls, Trolls, Carnies, etc.).
Often, the villian contacts usually have you fighting other villians, (with the exception of the PPD in Mayhems, a stack of Longbow and a few Wyvernn) while this has an obvious effect on your reputation meter with each of the two factions, does it affect your Hero/Villian meter?
The hero contacts almost always have you fighting villians.

Just seems that it might prove difficult to achieve the faction-rep you want with existing red-side story arcs. Newspaper missions though, would be great for cherry-picking who you want to fear you.
Well, two different 'benevolent' organizations can easily have different motives.

I'll cite Mass Effect on this one, a particular instance on one of the first planets:
You're asked for help by a civilian to get his wife's body back, but the military needs it to examine what killed her in the war and to build a vaccine/defense against it for the future. Do you get the distraight man's wife's body back or do you let them have it to save possibly more lives in the future?

What I'm looking for it a better test of moral code than the standard of kicking babies vs. giving your grandma a hug. Heroic and Villainous acts are still very gray, but I don't think working for a certain company would guarantee an alignment shift, unless it were directly heroic/villainous.

Kinda disappointed about no replies though. Anyone wanna tear into this thing and tell me why it sucks and I should suck, too?

    Works for me.

    DOS-PANA it is.
I don't exactly how the alignment would scale, per say, but I'll work on quantitative numbers if this idea proves it has any merit.

One thing that I would like to also add that I'm sure wouldn't be too popular: Reputation.
Yes, I know that people think WoW is evil and we should never, ever try to emulate it, and while I'd rather not emulate them, it raises a valuable concern...

In CoH, why is it that every 'good' organization seems to work together? It's like the 'good guys' all seem to know that they're all th good guys and you can't do anything. Personally? I don't think someone who's working for Vanguard would too happy with Longbow in many cases, and vice versa.
If I had to do things myself, not every 'good' organization would be allied with each other. Some? Sure, but different people have different agendas. You would be able to build up your rapport with different agencies, and possibly turn old enemies into allies to help in a fight. It would be another centerpoint in the aspect of having an alignment, because sometimes I just look at faction wars and I think "Why would I want to stop The Family? I like them."

Haven't we seen a fair number of government agencies go too far (or go semi-rogue when a particularly bad person gets into the right position) in comic fiction?
And if it's a private organization performing the work as a contractor, double that. (I'm thinking Crey right there.)

The three (or more?) choices would be neccesary, of course, but there may be a bit of quibbling as to how you define right/wrong. Some folks would make a decision and disagree as to how many good/evil points it scored on the meter.

I'm trying to reword the acronym to make it spell S.P.A.N.D.E.X., but I got nothing so far.
If I may kindly disagree, BBQ, I see many Heroes just looking at this sort of thing and saying "Well, I don't much like it, but I see the reasoning behind it." so they do it for the good of the city. But if you're a Hero that just feels against it, well, there's still an option.

And as you could imagine, it wouldn't be impossible to start out on the road to Villainy, but then turn towards Heroics, or Heroic to Villainy, but it would certainly be more difficult. Villains would have those rare opportunities to take a more benevolent course, which would be increasingly rare as your alignment goes in one direction or another, considering that Heroes are going to be working with more Heroic people, where as Villains will be working with the more Villainous... Or maybe on their own? Who's to tell?

Edit: As for 'SPANDEX'? I'll pass. I'm a bit tired of everything having to have a name that incorporates exactly what they do, and I find it just a bit cheesy that Magic Supheroes deal with 'Magi'.

A new alien race has landed on Earth and has promised peace and to rid the world of the Rikti that are here to destroy the human race. All Temp Powers, No Aggro Cap, Immediate Recharge

Just go around and kill everything... Including GMs with infinite nukes.
  22. Or: "If I Had My Own City of Heroes/Villains"

First and foremost; I apologize if this does not belong here. You can -Rep me for my insolence of posting such a thing here if you'd like.

I'd like to sorta... I don't wanna say I'd like to pitch my own game here, but I'd like some critique on something. I posted something along the lines of my 'own game' in the Suggestions forums, but as you could imagine... These aren't suggestions for CoH.

If I ever had the privilege to produce a Superhero game (which I don't plan to in this lifetime, but it's nice to dream) it wouldn't always be telling a tale about Heroes and Villains, but also those caught in between.

Imagine this: To start the game, you begin as a character of neutral morality-- for those who like pure Heroes/Villains, keep reading-- and you start after the 'War of the Capes' as many had deemed it; a massive civil war that had broken out amongst Heroes and their factions. Villains thought it was a good idea, but guess what villains tend to do with power? They want to fight for it... So while you've got Heroes fighting for their own regimes, you've got Villains fighting for who can take advantage of the weakened state of the Heroes.
Finally, the dust settled and there weren't nearly as many worthy of calling themselves a 'Hero' after the bouts of destruction and carnage caused. It was also cause for a new agency to arise:
DOS-PANA: Documentation Of Super-Powered Abilities and Network Agendas
It was the first organization to have the controversial mission to document the superpowers of all those who would wish to have a good standing in the city. As you can imagine, that would cause some trouble for some people.
For Heroes-in-the-making, you could go right ahead and document yourself for the good of the city, and prove that you have nothing to hide. For all you no-good Villains out there, you would have the option of beginning your route to darkness by refusing to document yourself, breaking out of DOS-PANA's facility and going about your business. As you make your daring escape, the guards (that you presumably defeated) will say that they collected information during the fight, and it's enough to create enough of a profile for you in their database... But certainly not in good standing.

So, you've got neutrality... And it would be a sort of 'meter' like Knights of the Old Republic, but without the whole 'Kill a box of kittens vs. Donate your kidney to a dying child' sort of choice. For most contacts there would be a heroic option, a neutral option, and an evil option... Perhaps more in some situations, but who's counting? There would be levels of good and evil, of course... For the Heroic scale, you've got the Neutral, Do-Gooder, Crime-Stopper, Vigilante, Role-Model, Paragon, and then Hero. An alternative scale would work for villains, and it would often determine what contacts would want your help.
And then, what about those who just want to start OUT as a Hero/Villain? Well... We have Epic Archetypes at the moment. I don't see why reaching the maximum level couldn't open up alternate beginnings for Heroes/Villains; instead of registering your powers, you're already so Heroic you've done it already and are out stopping crime, and your first task would be to defeat some sort of terrorizing whatever... You get the idea, where as a Villains' first task would be to take over a small business/radio station/iconic local building and show that they're not afraid of anything!

So, yeah. That would be my take on a great alignment system. I'm sure it's not the best out there, and I'm sure that some of you will outright hate it for either being too cliche, or too much of a rip-off, or just not like the idea of having an alignment system in general! Still, this is my own little 'For Fun' post, so I hope you won't rip too far into it.

Once again, I apologize for posting this if this topic does not belong in this forum!
  23. No. Bad computer.

If anything, Paragon City/Praetoria NEEDS more competition. It encourages PvP, it promotes a sense of a challenge, and people can actually feel more involved if there's a faction.

So YES to the Loyalists and the Resistance! May they go to war and may the battle rage on!

While I'm not the biggest fan of Caves maps, I have to disagree. Yes, they're a pain, but they're one of the few realistic maps of the game... The few of those that don't make it feel like it was designed for a truck to drive through it and haul with it half the population of Kentucky on it's bumper.
