That's really why I never end up trying these things. They don't really measure up to a typical high mitigation and recharge scrapper build. Perhaps part of my posting this is that I wish these concepts were viable alternatives to give us more uniqueness.

Similar to another responder, I see a lot of these tricks being more useful on a blaster or other squishy.

I never realized Will's rez had +recharge... that IS interesting... Problem with willpower is that the way i'd build it, I'm not sure I could turn off enough things to die at will.

That toon was about 2 years ago... but yeah, I would use it when fighting up level bosses, so they didn't scatter. I generally solo'd so even when I was scattering things I didn't care, i'd just follow them and hit them again. I got the most use out of it street sweeping freakshow boss spawns in Brickstown. I used claws/regen to do it so I could handle endurance better.
  4. I'm always interested in finding and trying to abuse game mechanics in new and interesting ways. I think right now that the best way to do that is to build up high +defense on pretty much any toon. But ignoring that possibilty, particularly using more active powers as opposed to just passive/toggle mitigations what other synergies do you guys find interesting? Maybe not something you'd play, but something you're curious about?

Here's a few things I've always wanted to try...

MA/DA - capitalizing on stacking stuns with Oppressive Gloom.

DM/DA with presense - focus on having control with all the fear powers available.

any melee + whirlwind (permanent knockdown)... I've done this up to level 43. It was a lot of fun, but became pointless since nothing was killing me anyway, and I couldn't perma-knockdown AVs.

DM/Fire or Spines/fire - using immobalize with burn

Spines + Weapon Mastery - make an all ranged, very AoE focused scrapper (possibly use blaze mastery now)

Caltraps slotted with massive procs and recharge.

/DA or /FA with a focus on high recharge in thier resurrection power to be used frequently.

Anyone have any expirience with doing these, or have a concept of your own you want to share?

Too bad you only have 3 insperation slots.. because you probably need 3 purples and 3 yellows to do that right. Brawl using no endurance definatly would help.

Perhaps THIS is the new RWZ challange.... hrmmm... does anyone get a confuse out of the box at level 1?

    RWZ challenge?

You could use Unstoppable on every spawn, except that you'd run out of time. Etc.

On the other hand, custom encounters in AE could have easily replaced the RWZ challenge, and didn't. So it might survive custom difficulty levels too.
+4 longbow spawns with 2 bosses would be interesting. Aracnos also. And anything with -tohit will be highly annoying (CoT death mages?).

I think i'm actually looking forward to my brute more then my scrappers with the new sliders.

Might as well say "all melee." I'd also probably show up with a /wp brute once he's lvl 35.

About the closest we'd come would be emotes that activate with our travel powers.

Fact is the layout of the city isn't really built for traveling that way. Think about it. Your standing under Atlas' statue. When your SG mate in Talos asks for your help.
You activate your 'Super-Car' power and a Batmobile-esq car materializes in front of you, you click the door and vanish inside. Then it plods along at sprint speed, making you drive around the long way since your car can't climb over stairs...
Then you get to the train station and have to get out. then get back in at Talos....

    Just too much hassle.

I'd rather have them devote all that time to totally new powersets and Giant Monsters.

    Just my personal opinion though.
well duh.. super cars fly.... yeah.. it's a little impractical... but one can dream. I'd skip the trains and portals to drive the long way if I could fly across a zone in 10 seconds.

I do agree.. .I'd rather see more enemy content... i16 has it's fill for QOL stuff.
  11. I'm going to skip the cliche answers and actually get into something serious here.

I like to be the damage dealer. This seems to be useful in all situations. Solo, there are rarely times when damage isn't enough by itself. Teamed, there's always a benifit from having 1 more damage dealer (not always true about controls/tanks... offensive boofs/deboofs yes). Also, dealing high damage means finishing missions fast... leveling fast... moving through content fast. Thing is, I actually read the stories and contact text most of the time. If I get a mission that takes 15 minutes, then the story line isn't moving fast enough... 4-5 minute missions are great.

More specifically I like melee damage over ranged. I enjoy the jumping-in-their face feel of combined combat jumping-hurdle-melee attack over the hover blast feel. (although I also hover blast in one of my primary toons). I like fast animations over slow animations. I like continously flowing movement (dual blades over broadsword... short speedy toons over large lumbering toons).

I like to tight, insanely powerful, envelope pushing builds. If a toon doesn't have the ability to make the average player say "woah... i didn't know that was possible," then I'll probably skip that combination.

    I like zero-downtime, non-stop action... I don't want any set-up time... and I don't like waiting for a power to recharge.

I also have to have a name/costume/look and concept that I enjoy being.

And all my toons are monkeys. (don't ask why.. i don't have an answer).

From all that, I've come up with 1 DB/SR scrapper. 1 DM/Shield scrapper. 1 Fire/Mind blaster. And lately I've been playing an Energy/WP brute. (I know energy has slow animations, but it's growing on me.) I really don't play the DB/SR anymore becaue the DM/Shield does everything better... but before shields came along, I played the DB/SR and nothing else for about 8 months... over 6 months at level 50.
  12. I never bought the magic booster pack... That cape isn't available at level 1? Or isn't it a cape?
  13. After finishing a bank mission, the detective will introduce you to contacts. It may not have the contact you want, but its another way to get an active contact in your level range.

I suspect that if someone goes through all the difficulty of building something that will have universal appeal to the entire playerbase, they couldn't restrict it to players who have been around for 5+ years.

However, I can see it being the bonus power for a natural booster pack.

Both of those statements are true. What we also find to be true is that when it comes to scrapping, it doesn't actually make any difference at all how you choose to build your character as long as the end result leaves you standing over the fallen body of your enemy.
Indeed. Although, given the choice between making a new body every 4 seconds vs making a new body every 3 ... i'm gonna go with 3 most of the time.

(I should probably point out, my current project is not a damage machine... but instead a survivabilty monster... i'm just providing counterpoints for the sake of discussion.)

I'm developing a red side toon. I'd jump in any teams running at or above my level (currently 23). I'd also SK anyone who wants to join me on my missions. Just ask in channel if you see me on.
  19. A scrapper built for maximum surviviabilty is peforming his job less effectively then a scrapper built for maximum damage anytime the damage scrapper has at least 1 hitpoint.

The fisherman looks up at the rich guy, squints a bit and says: "and then what? I got lots of fish, so then what?"

The rich guy starts spinning this plan that has the fisherman buying a boat to go into the sea and catch even bigger fish that would sell for more, and then hiring other fishermen to help with the whole operation and the fisherman will become rich, just like the rich guy...

To which the fisherman responds with another lazy: "then what...?" question.

The rich guy smiles and says: "...then when you retire, you get to do whatever you like to do in the whole wide world!"

The fisherman smiles a crooked smile and says: "I'm already doing it!"

Some people simply get so wrapped up in the notion of maximizing stuff that they fail to realize it's not even required because neither the game-world, nor Life itself was designed for maximizing anything by any single entity.

That said though, in MMO's as in Life, activities are designed around repeating patterns. We go to school every day for several years, we go to work, we eat, we sleep... we repeat. As pattern-consuming organisms we are designed to adopt certain patterns and reject others. It's really difficult to avoid patterns, and when one finally succeeds, we call them crazy and lock them away

Keep in mind... some people enjoy creating and implementing plans. That rich guy may be doing what he wants to do, too. Applied to the game... some people enjoy figuring out how to maximize the xp/influence earning rate.

The OP is not just the fisherman.... he's the rich guy because he asked "why" instead of minding his own buisness.

The PvPers aren't griefing... they're playing the game as intended. Those are pvp badges... I think it's logical to expect to have to fight other players if you want them.

    MA lvling

I've seen some very fun and interesting content in MA. To be honest, I just wish they could take good content and put it into the 'real game' and throw everything else out. That's harder to do then say, but that's what I want.

I guess my main question is, is there anyone that still plays the real missions in the Infinity server and if there is how come i never see them looking for teams because i only see people in the broadcast looking fo AE mishs.
I16 has some changes that will make AE mission teams less attractive to the farming/PL crowd. I'm not sure those are the people you're looking to team with anyway... but just getting people out of Atlas and back in their level appropriate zones should help the situation.

    Welcome back.
