just my opinion, but unless you carry a lot of blues, or are tier 4 cardiac, i'd think slotting oblits in blazing aura is a bit harsh on the endurance. i went with multi strikes for the time being, good endurance reduction. also, i'd cut healing flames down to 5 slots. the recharge bonus is on the 5th doctored wounds. (unless you're reserving the slot for panacea later on).
lastly, look into the performance shifter +endurance proc for stamina. oh, and also 4 point kb protection may not be enough for when you do tf's. av's and such tend to knock people around.
theres lots of options though, you have one there in fly. theres the karma (defense set) and steadfast(resistance set) theres also a bonus upon 4 slotting fury of the gladiator (pbaoe set) -
i really like your build. its not like all the others, it departs in some major ways, and there are some nice trade offs. having taunt slotted up is really nice. its something i wish i had at times. on the other hand, rage only 3 slotted. anway, nice work finding your own path through the waves.
-
these are great farming builds, with tons of recharge. if you're looking to do more regular content, you'll want more knockback protection. for my regular content build, im sitting at about 56% recharge, plus hasten. a long long ways from your over 100%. i dont use any purples (so far). a popular one is 5 arma plus the ff proc in footstomp.
the most s/l defense ive gotten is about 38% without gimping powers. im pretty happy with it. cardiac is really nice for this build, even though you have consume. although i spose with that kind of recharge, your consume is up a lot more. -
in a vacuum i can imagine other archetypes surpassing brutes aoe damage capability. the tough part is, in the real world, are they durable enough to deliver it. thats all farming is. that thin durability/dmg line in a wide scale. i believe a blaster could, with the perfect enemy, outdo a brute. for instance, i once played an ae arc where all the enemies had rooted on. so moved very slowly. that coupled with an aoe immob from a patron pool, and a blaster could deliver his payload with relative ease.
its just crazy how good a brute can get with little to no effort. -
i would take a patron, for the aoe immob. for farming, its aoe dmg, for regular play, its very useful to keep things in your aura, and for the enfeebled operation set. great bonuses for regular play.
also, consume is an aoe technically, you can slot it for acc and dmg. -
i have a question. in the realm of tankers, would one with the greatest versatility be one that could live through the widest number of enemy types? that is a kind of versatility. versatility within survivability.
-
well, defiance is a really good start. you can still kill things while mezzed, albeit slower. its certainly possible to kill the culprit before you die. perhaps the self to-hit buffs could be added to the defiance list. you could build up and hit flares a couple times. it would speed up the killing of that rascally mezzer.
come to think of it. what if mez resist was all one? what if you didnt build up individual resists or immunities, but the game considered you simply mez resistant by a certain amount. it would mean that you could build for it with io sets. -
hello bullet priest. thats a very good start, and as you say, you're near invulnerable to most stuff. my guess is you did the khan tf and went over to tank crey/vanessa only to notice you're at half health and scrambling for earths embrace. well, just keep in mind that those moments are few and far between.
as for your build, i also run a stone/fire, and at a glance, i would say stone skin is overslotted, and tough is underslotted. snce tough is also resistance, but gives a greater amount, i would, if nothing else, swap the slotting in those 2. myself, i have gone body mastery/spiritual. but i suppose that pyre/cardiac has much the same effect. one gives damage, the other helps with your endurance. mud pots is a big culprit, and i find (as sets go) that multi strike are the nicest to 6 slot into it. myself, i couldnt resist going for a couple procs, so this is a case of do as i say and not as i do. at any rate, i'll post my build. its still a bit of a work in progress, as im considering taking the second slot off invis and putting it elsewhere (if i find a good enough place). obviously you're already quite happy with your guy, so this is just throwing ideas out there. myself, i am also not satisfied with my damage, but i think thats because i normally play brutes. anyway without further ado:

as you can see, i've tried to help my run speed out as best i can. other than that, its very similar to most other builds you've probably seen for granite tankers. i highly recommend using your second build space for non-granite. whether it be to tackle malaise or to do oro arcs at lvl 25. you'll be glad you have several armors on in the early levels.
edit: i forgot to mention, this isnt my current build, i've since added the procs to mud pots, and altered fsc. i took 1 slot from weave and put it on stealth for another lotg as well.right now im working on replacing the crushing impacts in incinerate with hecatombs.
-
I haven't checked the speed, but i currently have 100.5% run speed bonus total. Tp is there for long halls and outdoor maps, but crowded tunnels are much easier with running. I imagine taking musculature( which has run speed bonus i believe) could really get a granite zippy. When not in granite, and using sprint and ninja run, im very close to ss speed.
-
maybe uninteresting, but my favorites to team with are thermal and dark. not because they're the best, but because i guess i have the best understanding of what they're giving me. and can utilize it better.
-
this is the debate im having about which new scrapper to take up to high levels. both have the +recharge auto power that im looking for. i know sr will be softcapped to positions, and high defense debuff resistance. i know ela will be softcapped to smashing/lethal, with a few other useful tools (end management, dmg aura) i think in a lot of settings the ela would be better, but then again i havent taken one up high. what do you guys think?
-
one of the two penalties could be removed. either remove defense suppression. or remove speed penalty. this puts it more in line with hover/cj as a pick.
-
Quote:i agree. i have proc's in my tanks dmg auras and it definitely is noticeable. but as you say, a tank stands in the middle of them for longer, giving it more of a chance to go off. if someone does want procs, they can still 4 or 5 slot a set and then use the remaining 1 or 2 slots for extra procs. i use 4 slot erad (with the proc) and then 2 additional procs (whatever is cheapest at the moment).Thank you Gavin:
This is exactly what I meant with my post. The more enemies focused on a brute, the more fury will be driven, and the more damage bonus a brute's Fury will Return.
Depends on who you ask. Lightning field is actually a good place to use the set Obliteration at pump 5 or pump 6 for the set bonus. I'd have a very difficult time advising you or telling you that proccing up a Taunt PbAOE is a good idea. In the cases of brutes the mob will likely be dead from all of the other powers before the procs ever contribute meaningful damage (tested with Hero Stats and my own elec brute and my own spines / fire scrapper, proccing up the damage auras contributed no meaningful damage to overall combat figures).
Proccing out a taunt pbaoe may or may not grant more damage when used against Tanks, where the player will likely have more time spent in a mob, and thus have more time for the procs to go-off. On my own Fire Tank, proccing out blazing aura bounced back and forth between doing more damage than just slotting blazing aura for damage, and doing less damage than just slotting blazing aura for damage.
Overall, if you want to go the proc route, you can, there's nothing stopping you... but you'll probably be better served by checking out set-bonus's and going for a straight set bonus buff coupled with damages over relying on procs. -
Quote:Still viable. From the survivability standpoint, it was a non-Granite Brute that Nihilli used to prove the point that Brutes could solo AVs.
well... he fought malaise. and he used the superior psi protection in the minerals power. however, there are many non-granites that are very survivable. in many situations.
im sure nihilli could use a granite build to solo a different AV too. he's just that good. -
as far as building defense. though dechs is probably more of an authority on this, the first places to start are kinetic combats in melee attacks, and reactive armors in resists. each only take 4 slots fortunately.
-
i think the pylon thread has the highest dps tank listed as a fire/ss.
i know thats dps and not aoe dps, but i think it should be considered. ss gets a very good aoe. and if you pick up an epic or patron aoe, you can chain burn-fs-fireball-consume-burn, etc etc -
use 4 pieces of reactive armor in all of your resists if you want to get closer to softcapping s/l. also, take a patron pool, and 6 slot the aoe immob (in your case, electrifying fences)with enfeebled operation. it has one of the largest bonuses.
-
i'd take temperature protection if you're going to fight a lot of fire enemies. throw the steadfast in there instead.
-
war mace/electric armor brute. wasnt expecting much from it, but its really fun.
-
my build there would be running granite full time. i went for a fair bit of run speed in the inactives and also lotgs. swapping tough and stoneskin is a nice catch though.
-
ok. try number 99. lol. tried for some more run speed bonuses. recharge is down a bit. took out the panacea since it'll be a month before i have the a-merits anyway. softcapped to s/l. overall looks pretty durable.

taking an aoe immob lets me slot enfeebled. which is great for s/l defense. one of the best sets you can get. didnt matter which one to me though. soul/mu/levi/mace.
so if you run granite all the time, you typically just stick with one slot in rock armor, for a lotg. i guess you have to respec out of it since levelling would be hard without it until 32. ok ill play around in mids a bit more and see what i can come up with. -
