I'll thank you to not put words in my mouth.

    No, I wasn't being sarcastic.

The Eden Trial level limitation is an intended design feature. As such, it is WAI. Now, we can debate whether that's a good or a bad feature, but what it is NOT is a bug.
  3. Do you have the chat colours option enabled? It doesn't let you pick colours, but every global channel will be assigned a different colour.
  4. And don't forget timeline - depending on when TCoSR is set, any hypothetical romance between Posi and Numina pretty much has to be recent, so there's a lot of leeway to squeeze into the gaps.

Also, I have the sneaking suspicion that it's only "the love of friends" between Posi and Numi, anyway. It's not as if there have been any hints of a romance before now.
  5. The 600+ person one was awesome fun, and I'll hopefully be there tonight, digging for important answers again, like "is Ms Liberty homosexual?" (actually relevant to a story I have on the go).

And maybe I won't miss out on a freebie this time.
  6. Haven't had this bug affect me this time around. I remember just after CoV launched, something similar happened to me and a friend on our L50 heroes, we got dumped into a L26's warehouse map. The L26 was a villain. He conned as a target. I decided to test it with my weakest attack. Yep. He got hurt.

Apologised, laughed at the bug, left the map and /bugged it.

I suspect that this is basically the same bug, so you'll be a distinct and separate team to the actual mission's team, they'll con as friendly if they're the same side as you or are running coop tasks, but you might get them conning as enemies if (say) you're a hero team on a villain map.

Ah, I know it so well... though for me, I was standing there, cursing loudly, and my wife looks over at me and asks me what's wrong, and I point out that I can't click on the train doors. She points out to me exactly why this was... I'd only been playing the game for 3 years at that point.
  8. Agreeing with everyone that those leaders were being jerks.

On Union my experience is that we tend to just roll with what we get. I have never seen anyone query anyone else's incarnate slotting, I have never seen anyone kicked because of their incarnate slotting, and if someone did decide to kick me because (for example) I've chosen to go Void Judgement rather than Ion, or Ageless Destiny rather than Barrier, I'd laugh my head off at them, hop onto a global channel and ask some real players if they have room for me.
  9. Communication 101: Making sure you post something for the devs in the right forum.
  10. Having just got my Uncommon Judgement, I can happily say, I'm not ditching my Nuke for anything.

I got it last night, and decided to run a couple of tip missions, with the idea that I'd use it as often as it recharged, jumping into the middle of a fresh spawn and firing it off.

    Is it powerful? Yes.

Am I intending to use it lots? Yes.

Am I going to keep my slowly-getting-Purpled Nuke? Hell yes. It does more damage. Sure, it has a crash. But I tend to team with a friendly /Kin 'troller who's always ready to fill me up with Transference. And I tend to only use my Nuke on larger teams when the amount of damage it can dish out makes the end-crash worth it.

My Judgement power is going to be used a lot more, certainly, but my beautiful, beautiful Nuke still has a place.

As far as things like the Destiny slot is concerned - anything that'll let me survive more Alpha strikes can only be a good thing.

I suppose, though, at the end of the day, the question is: Does having X Incarnate ability make me feel more powerful than I did without it?

If the answer is "yes", then it's done the job. So far, I'm loving them.
  11. The issue with not allowing new characters to be created usually happens when the NCStore goes down - character slots (whether purchased or vet rewards) beyond the "basic 12" become unavailable.
  12. Considering that little powers like Mystic Fortune and Secondary Mutation appear to be functional (bear in mind that I've not looked at the numbers and won't be able to for about 9 hours), not having Alpha working in Trials is a BIG failure. Seriously odd that the level shift still seems to be sitting there handily (I observed that it drops when you die, as it always has, since it's a power effect and all power effects end on death).

As fat as that cat in your avatar?

(which is awesome, by the way)

    /offtopic

Must confess, I've had my chat window taking up about 40% of my screen width for so long, now, that I didn't notice this at all, but I can understand it bugging people.
  14. That would explain why my power recharge times seemed off (for example without Alpha, Aim and Build Up on my main have about a 4 second gap between them being recharged, with Alpha they sure as heck don't).

Methinks someone needs to crunch some numbers so that we can shove them under the dev's noses.
  15. Moving on to a slightly different point raised in the OP, the order:

    is almost completely insane.

Let's look at my Eng/Eng blaster's three possible "best" attacks for a moment (I'm not in-game so I'm not looking at the actual numbers here).

Power Bolt. Low on damage, but recharges damn fast.
Power Burst. Nice damage, but takes several seconds to recharge.
Nova. Insane damage, takes an age to recharge, and that End drain is a pain at the wrong time.

Which one of these three should I be spamming?

The real answer is "none of the above". I should be hurling out an attack chain.

It gets even worse if I consider that order from the perspective of my Rad/Psi defender. Rather than dropping the awesome debuffs, healing, firing off Accelerate Metabolism, rezzing fallen comrades... I should be using my frankly feeble (compared to say a scrapper or blaster) attacks?

No. No, no, no, no, no.

My wife would laugh at me if I asked her to "spam the mobs with her best attacks" on her Earth/Kin 'troller. In fact, she'd probably turn around and whack me round the head. Her contributions when we duo are (firstly) holds, immobs, slows. Followed rapidly by enemy debuffs, with team and self-buffs coming in a close third. She sometimes complains to me that she feels useless, standing around doing "nothing" while I'm ripping through enemy groups like a chainsaw through bubblewrap. My normal response is "BWUH? Without you, they'd have slaughtered me. You might not have killed many of them, but you sure as heck helped. A lot!"

So, just adding my weight to people questioning that as an instruction, because it's a poor one, except, perhaps, on an all Scrapper/Blaster team.
  16. Now, you see, I would say that for me, anyone I meet for the first time has the right for me to be respectful of them (which is not to say that I do respect them, just that my behaviours towards them are at my "default" setting).

This entitles them to politeness and consideration.

Their behaviour thereafter directly affects whether they gain or lose my respect. As others have said, I don't have a checklist, it's an automatic process.

So, I'd say that yes, respect is earned (or lost), I don't automatically respect anyone, but my default behaviour should be respectfulness.

And it's worth me pointing out that respectfulness is an attitude and behaviour, whereas respect is an emotional investment in the individual. They are two very different things.

    6 hours downtime

On Union on my main character, in Galaxy City. Right now.
  18. There are no announcements about extended maintenance. There are no announcements about problems occurring after the extended maintenance and requiring the servers to all be taken back down for an unknown period of time while the databases are fixed.

    Honest.

Edit: Nor are there any announcements about the servers being expected to be back up on about one hour's time.

"There will be a scheduled maintenance tomorrow, March 31, from 5 AM PST to 11 AM PST. Please note that you will not be able to access the servers during this time. Thank you for your patience regarding this scheduled downtime. "

is lame. We are paying customers. I understand the need for maitenence to be done. I understand that the servers will be down from time to time. But, I do not understand not communicating when its like this 12 hours down no info about what they are doing.

I understand they can do what they want and have to take care of the hardware as they see fit. But some info about what they are doin is nice to have.

Otherwise like today they dont seem to know what they are doin.

They are just doin what they are doin and if we dont like it we can "F" off.

at lease thats how it seems. I have payed them for 5 years now almost 6 and i think they could after all this time figure out that we can handle knowing that the server needs to be replaced or there is a new security update or that they have x,y,or z issues happening. But to take the game down and not inform us what is the issue or what is happeing is just lame at this point.

And another thing why every server. If its a problem on freedom why is virtue down or triumph etc....

    just sayin
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    *wheezing breath*

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

They have no obligation to tell us anything. At all.

They ARE communicating, quite often, really, to keep us updated on the issue.

I find it utterly laughable that you believe that you are somehow entitled to have the servers constantly up, and to be continuously updated on what the development staff are doing to resolve the situation. No, sorry. Their servers, their decisions, their rules. You pay for the right to access the servers when THEY have those servers available.

Now, this downtime is longer and more severe than they were expecting, so they might decide to offer us some form of in-game compensation (DXP weekends are popular), but they are under no obligation to do anything of the sort.

If you don't like that, you can put your money where your mouth is and quit the game. Can I have your stuff?

The full expression, as discussed elsewhere on these boards, is "Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt". The meaning is essentially "and that's everything sorted out."

To make a chicken pilaf, brown some chicken with skin on for a few minutes, add an appropriate amount or rice, and a tablespoon of curry powder, stir for one minute, turn over the chicken, add water to cover the chicken, mixed vegetables and a sliced lemon, cover, simmer for 10 minutes (stirring occasionally), and Bob's your uncle, you have a delicious meal.
  21. Different pronunciations, though. A 'poof' (footstool) rhymes approximately with 'roof', whereas the homosexual man sounds more like "p'f" (I'm struggling to find another word that actually rhymes with that version).
  22. Ah, just spent a while reading and chuckling. Yes, in the UK the most common use for a f ag is to set it alight.

I love all of the things people have pointed out in this thread. The good news for all of you US-types is that thanks to the wonders of film and television, we understand what you mean when you say most things. But the amount of British material that has gone the other way is more limited, so we know that some of you won't understand why we all snigger when you mention "patting someone on the fanny".

Anyway, worth a read, for the crack if nothing else.
  23. In an attempt to mitigate any damage that may have been done: The forums sometimes become a place where a few of Union's "vocal personalities" hash out age-old arguments. It's a place where we tend to discuss RP theory, and dscuss plots, which makes it a melting pot.

In-game, these arguments do NOT tend to manifest, because the individuals involved (and I may well be one of them) are usually WAY too busy actually RPing and having fun.

Viseur, lemme know when you're likely to be online in Praetoria. I'll see what I can do about providing some entertainment, and maybe dragging a few other willing souls along for some fun and frolics.
  24. Got to say, I still think Fans' "two rules" pretty much cover the things that people consider "too much".

    1) Things that essentially require a response from everyone. If it would trigger a drastic response from non-heroes (fleeing the city, rioting, armed militia, nationwide manhunt), then it's probably too much.

    2) Things that change the game-world in a way that isn't supported by the game itself (destroying the Freedom Corps building, knocking down the Atlas Statue, killing Statesman).

Now, I will point out that if you (generic "you") ask everyone to accept scaffolding up around the Atlas Statue for a fortnight because a piece of plot you ran damaged it, then I think most people would be okay with that. That doesn't subtract anything from the game world, it adds to it in a realistic and reasonable fashion, it's only temporary, and it adds verisimilitude.

Is that the guideline? Add, don't subtract? I know that's way too general to be a rule, but as I think about it, I think it's a good way to look at things.

I've added Huntington Technologies to the game world. Someone might add scaffolding to the Atlas statue for a while. Even the developers have added Praetorians.

However, if someone tried to subtract the entire civilian population of King's Row, it would cause problems.

    Thoughts?
