  1. Another suggestion, from my techie wife: to guarantee it's either software or hardware, does the buzzing persist if you unplug the speakers completely? If it does, it's a hardware issue. If not, then it's something in either your speakers or PC (and could be software).
  2. Not an expert on these things, but if it persists when muted, it sounds like some form of electromagnetic interference. What happens if you move the speakers away from your PC and monitor?

They're pretty much assumed by J. Random Citizen to be space aliens.
    Absolutely this.

As an RPer, it creates some interesting situations when a "new hero" or at least "new-ish hero" who isn't Omega Level cleared talks about Rikti.

Though if memory serves, the souvenir from Dark Watcher's arc is a book about the causes of the Rikti invasion.

    Except the resistance.

Joking aside, I agree with the general point:

If it's from the same reality as Primal Earth, but not natively from Primal Earth, it's an alien.

If it's from a different reality to Primal Earth, whether it's from Earth or not, it is still,, technically, an alien to Primal Earth.

However, most people, I think, would agree that "alien" in terms of characters in CoH would generally be used to apply to the first group. The second group would be considered "extradimensional aliens" or "extradimensional" for short.
  5. Send a PM to Floating Fat Man. He got given info on Kheldian space travel out of the devs, pulled straight from the lore bible, I believe.

Not sure he'll tell anyone, but...
  6. Basically, the first setting is "How high relative to your level do you want the bad guys to be?"

So, if you're, say, 25, and you set it to -1, missions will tend to spawn level 24 enemies (subject to some variation, usually +/-1 level). On the other hand, if you set it to +4, it would spawn enemies at level 29 (again, subject to small variation).

The second difficulty is what size team do YOU want the game to think you are? It will spawn enemies based on the greater of: what you've set this as or the ACTUAL number of members in the team. This tends to increase spawn sizes, as well as increase the number of bosses and lieutenants you will encounter.

The third and fourth options determine how certain specific enemies will spawn if you are solo (regardless of all other settings). Bosses and Arch Villains (AVs) are generally tougher than other enemies, some archetypes can't take on bosses effectively, and it's quite rare to find a solo character that can take on AVs solo. These settings, then, allow you to make bosses spawn as lieutenants, and AVs spawn as EBs, respectively.

Edit: So, my L50 blaster solos at +0/x3/No/No, meaning that enemies spawn at L50, in mobs sized for a team of three, with no bosses and no AVs (yeah, I'm a wuss). Most of the time I would abbreviate this to "0/x3", or "0/x3/No", because most people would expect me to avoid AVs like the plague.

Now, since you mention that you're playing a Brute, you should find yourself in a position to crank up your difficulty a bit, if you want to. Your brute is probably a lot more survivable than my blaster.

If you primarily have single target damage, you might want to crank up the level of enemies a bit, to make each one a bit tougher, and worth a bit more XP and inf. If you're AoE heavy, increasing your "effective team size" gives you more targets to mow through.

You're right, there is a option of incarnate progression outside of the trials. But it is not a very friendly one.
One thing I hate about this particular argument is that many people seem to express is at "either/or".

Me, I do a trial every now and then when I feel like it, and the rest of the time I run "normal" missions (Tips, Radio, Ourob'd Story Arcs, TF's every once in a while). So, yeah, someone avoiding the trials completely would take forever to unlock things. But I'm not burned out on trials right now because I don't exclusively do them. I supplement them with other content. And I don't think the progress is too slow. Slower than doing Trial after Trial after Trial, sure, but why would I want to do that when there's all this other content available to me that still allows me to make progress (albeit slow progress) on advancing my incarnate abilities?

^This. I was thinking this the whole time reading this thread. And since Shards drop for an Alpha unlocked character doing any content, the ENTIRE GAME can be used as content to get all incarnate abilities, just for the price of completing Mender Ramiel's story arc.
  9. People are being sarcastic about it because, outside the normal Thursday maintenance window, the Community team are currently VERY good at posting scheduled downtimes in the announcements.

I already left feedback about it.
So I have to come with suggestions to have another options to unlock it, something the devs dont give us, just 2 trials to play to death. Great!

Yeah, really sounds like "Suck it up" to me...
  11. Heh. We thought was just a typo, no big deal, we understood what you meant, so nothing to worry about.

And Birdy's right. GG needs some plot. So I'd better finish writing The Job, because that should kick one off.

This. Your forum account and game account share the same core name, so since you managed to log into the forums, you know your core account name.

    2. Are you an EU member? If so then your account name may have changed with the merge.
I say "core account name" because some EU accounts will now have EU prepended (stuck on the front), so if you have/had an EU account, stick EU in front of the core account name and try that instead.
  13. You'd be better off asking in the Technical Issues/Bugs forum, but as to the first question, do you have a standalone Ageia PhysX card installed, or is your graphics card simply one that has PhysX capability? If it's the former, then there's a problem (and I have no idea how to solve it). If it's the latter, then the answer is that the PhysX compatibility in CoH is only enabled on standalone PhysX cards.

    Where do I find

On Union I've never seen the AVs brought together. Heck, I once ran a BAF under mild protest (no one else was willing to lead it) and it turned into a (successful) Master run. And I'd never led a BAF before.

I figured lurking for awhile to figure out what was what was preferable to just jumping in and ending up looking like a complete idiot...

Too bad that particular player didn't follow a similar plan. He sounds like a real pain in the rear.
As a long-time Unionite, I'd recommend joining Union Roleplayers and/or GGOOC (both open global channels, the second one technically dedicated to the Galaxy Girl RP meet). Feel free to lurk. Say hi. Chill. Enjoy. We don't bite.

    Patch Notes

Yep, yesterday's patch was solely to merge the server lists, to the best of our knowledge. So patch notes would read

"Servers: Added Union, Defiant, Zukunft and Vigilance to the new Global Server List. All characters will remain intact on their original server. Global names and account names may have altered for some users from those 4 servers."
  17. Had an absolute blast while I could be there - had to leave to attend to Baby Shad, and I had a migraine coming on, which really didn't help, so I bugged out around 11.30 BST.

Things I could have done without: That cheeky goldspammer who appeared and started advertising; the almost constant "lolFIX PVP I WILL TELL YOU IN ALL CAPS" from one user; and a different user telling everyone (incorrectly) that low level RP toons were going to be deleted as part of the server list merge.

Things I want more of: Everything else. Honestly. It was awesome.
  18. My first account survived! I'm still shocked. My second account got hit by the cull and is now @Shadowe2.
  19. I'm shocked.

    I'm still @Shadowe.

    *glee*

However, my second account got renamed, and is now @Shadowe2.
  20. Very much depends on the character. My main's progress from 1-50 was essentially him learning about his powers, learning new tricks he could do with his powers, and learning to use more of his inherent power - but he was powerful from Day One.

I have another character who is (technically) a god, and languishes somewhere in the 20s. The amount of power s/he is able to manifest on Primal Earth is severely limited, though.

Yet another character is a tricky one. Due to her character story, she's as powerful as any other L50 you'd care to mention, but the amount of power she can use (due to a not-insignificant problem she has) makes her actually far less powerful than her level would indicate (while still being superhuman). She tends to get by on bravado and attitude. It's worked so far.

And another character, my main's mother, is currently level 7, but just because I've played her a TINY bit. She actually has zero powers, gadgets, abilities, gear and so forth. RP-wise, she's just a normal woman.

So... it varies. When I play a character, I'm playing the character, not the abilities wrapped around that character by the game.
  21. Okay, just to mention, I've installed the game on two 64-bit Win7 systems without a single glitch, so that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Go to your Control Panel and find NCSoft Launcher. If it's there, right-click and select remove, then try again. If it's not there... umm... anyone?
  22. I'd recommend downloading the installer from HERE and giving it a whirl.

Yes, it's the NCSoft installer, but the game will be moving over to it entirely in the not-too distant future, so it's worth using.

If that's the installer you're using, I have very little further advice to give.
  23. I can view both of my (long inactive) US trial accounts from my Master Account.

Looks like I'll be getting in touch with support and politely asking them to amend the account name on the US one that clashes with my EU one (and when I get the "cannot be renamed" response, I'll point out that they ARE renaming one of my accounts, so why can't they rename the one I want them to, please escalate, etc, etc).
