Quote:Pah! Computer is not a faction! Computers followers kill everyone, even our own!No. Bad computer.
If anything, Paragon City/Praetoria NEEDS more competition. It encourages PvP, it promotes a sense of a challenge, and people can actually feel more involved if there's a faction.
So YES to the Loyalists and the Resistance! May they go to war and may the battle rage on! -
Quote:What will most likely happen is as long as your character does not totally cross over you remain in the SG/VG.I'm sure everyone will remain in the same SG/VG unless they decide to quit it simply because if you were kicked when you switched sides then you'd have some PO'd folks. I can see it know, leaders of a SG/VG switching sides and getting kicked out of their OWN SG/VG.
Would be epic fail if that happened. -
The dev post you're refering was talking about all the overlap that exists between all the dark sets that makes a control set somewhat difficult to put together and basicly Dark Miasma becoming redundant.

A few days late to make this post but on the last day of herocon on the "what if" a Dark Control set was brought up and was said to either be allready designed or something along those lines, this does give me hope that someday we will have this very wicked set to play with and with hope comes desire to discuss.
Given how the defender and corrupter darkness sets are extremely controller-y as is what might we hope to see in such a set, what kind of powers would we see?
As far as powers go I would imagine the primary to look something like
1) A single target version of Tenebrous tenticles Immobilize
2) A direct copy of Petrifying gaze ST Hold
3) A direct copy of Tenebrous Tenticles
4) A new power, a ranged Chill of the night/Howling twilight sans-res esque? Maybe Darkest night.
5) A direct copy of Fearsome stare
6) A Direct copy of Tar patch?
7) A AoE version of Petrifying gaze?
8) A New power? Possibly a beefed up version of dark pit (no acc penalty, mag 3)
9) A Clone of fluffy?
A secondary to accompany it would be a total mystery to me, they might just have it stay a primary only, I would not have a problem with this....
Thoughts? -
As someone who plays with a VERY similar build, I can tell you it is definitely not bad at all. Just pace yourself with the attack chain and ONLY use dark regeneration when you have 15~% health.
-
As the local Darkness fanboy even I think my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt but played well, any primary and secondary is good. What Darkness does is sacrifice some power for utility, especially in the Corruptor and Defender iterations.
Eh...Its late and i'm sick. Here, ill just shove some expectations.
Darkblast/Miasma
-You can with good planing have a very powerful crowd DPS chain by lvl 12 with Tarpatch>Tenticles>Nightfall, Pick off boss's and other nasties with Moonbeam/DarkBlast/Gloom
-Skill with positioning is essential.
-Patience. Even though you are not killing them fast, they will not ever kill you. Period.
-Understand how -To hit works.
-Get Ranged defense, its awesome for all sorts of reasons like the fact it make -to hit debuffs even more effective.
-Howling Twilight is one of the nastiest debuffs in the game, oh and it reses crowds of players too. Take this power and use it whenever it comes up, if you are doing your job right you should never actually need to use it as a resurrection power, it is far more useful as a Megadebuff that incluedes such tasty bits such as a mag 2 aoe stun, 40% speed/Recharge debuff, 500% Regen debuff and a mag 3 fear to top it off...the best part is all of that autohits up to 16 baddies.
-Black hole is the turd of the set that is at best a panic power that really should never be used. Skip it, your team will thank you.
-Fearsome stare is a extremely effective control power, it will remove entire mobs of badies from the fight untill you are ready to fight them. Its also the main opening attack for miasma, it lands a instant 25% tohit debuff and gives you time to stack all sorts of debuffs on them before they even begin to attack you.
-Fluffy (dark servant) is your friend, hes like a little clone of you, he has many of your best powers at the same strength of you. However the most awesome part of him is what is not immediately obvious, Chill of the night- A 12ft radius aoe 25% tohit debuff that is allways on, with this power fluffy is able to tank some very very nasty foes and assist you in debuffing.
-There is many things awesome about both powersets that I detail much more in my guide thing.
*edit* http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=189835 <- my guide to Dark blast/ Dark Miasma, Dark melee/Armor sections are not done but I put in a link for a very awesome guide for those sets.
Dark Melee/Armor
-Level 1-20 is rough. Its pretty much the same with all Melee armors, no SO's/good IO's, no stamina, no bells and whistles. Pre-SO Dark Regeneration will destroy your endbar when you use it.
-Every power in Dark armor is essential except the self Res, Cloak of fear is somewhat redundant and is not as useful so it is skipable, still good though, but if you need another power elsewhere you won't miss its heavy end costs and poor accuracy.
-Despite what I just said, even though having all the toggles is very useful, having all of them on all the time is not, know your enemies and what kinds of damage they deal to save on endurance.
-Like others have said, Dark Melee is a awesome single target set, you will tear through stuff like its made of paper, one at a time, let Dark armors damage aura kill the minions while you focus on boss/stronger foes.
-Defense is awesome, get some. It will save you lots of endurance from not needing to use dark regeneration.
-Endurance is awesome, get some
-Physical perfection is awesome, get some. ((Conserve power while you're at it too.))
-If that was not enough hints, even with the end restore power this set chews up the end bar and requires quite abit of management to prevent suicide by toggle drop. However, it is very powerful once you get the rythm of it.
-Buzzsaw builds was a fad, ignore them, they offer no advantage whatsoever, especially since the major buff to siphon life and Midnight grasp, perhaps even before...
-Dark armor does not have a "god mode" power, but playing it well and having a good build will effectively put you in a perma-god mode against anything, there is no real holes in DA's mitigation, it even has considerable psi-resists (60% roughly).
Desmodos has a VERY detailed guide to Dark melee/Armor -> http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=127590 -
Welp im done for the night, see yall at herocon
-
|D; man this would have been abit more active in the general forum..
-
Hey guys as a little fun thing to do before herocon I'm going to be hanging out here
http://tinychat.com/cohdrawchat
and do some drawing for whoever wants them. Come in, hang out and chat! -
I comfortably play between +0/x8 and +2/x8 depending on the baddies im fighting, I play a Dark/Dark/Mu
-
Defenders (and IMO even more so, Corruptors) are one of the most versatile AT's in the game. While they are focused on being a support role they can easily take up a offensive role as well. Its all a matter of play style.
-
You can bid up to 2 billion on any item, even ones that dont exist. You can only have 2 billion on your character at any time and any extra will simply cease to exist, so just make sure to have 1 free market slot to deposit your run over before taking a full 2 billion.
-
Up untill about 3-4 days ago drops have been totally borked. If that is the data for the last 2 weeks then thats not surprising at all. Over the last few days...Yeah bad luck.
-
Quote:The exta 6% pushes me to the 45% Ranged positional softcap, with use of hurricane/Hover Melee is a nonissue and AOE is too rare to care about. When Soloing missions spawed for 8 at +2-4 that little extra defense goes along way.The extra 6%? No.
See, as long as you're past the softcap for S/L damage (45%), you're already going to avoid like 80% of everything in the game 95% of the time, no matter which position it's coming from.
Get your s/l def to or past 45. After that, you're golden and you can work on other slotting priorities, like a damage power or more global recharge. In your example, you're talking about a little extra safety in exchange for a lot less damage. I say, take the risk, live a little, and defeat your enemies faster =)
I duno that damage is debatable. Without a proper -kb Immob there is no way to do it very efficiently or reliably. -
Doing my own tests...based on how I play it is not worth it. What I get in damage is lost due to lost efficentcy due to KB. Being able to keep a group together does much more damage and is much more efficient in terms of endurance usage.
My playstyle sorta spin around being able to fight as fluidly as I can, meaning no downtime, no dieing, no waiting for a tank or /needing/ any extra teammates of any type. I beleive I have found a very nice build based around this and I will post it up later. -
^_^ Hay guys I guess I did not give very much information regarding my mind/storm. It is lvl 50, however it fell into disuse for along time for various reasons.
At the moment I have worked out a build that works very well, pretty much unkillable and I do love Pseudo tanks. I got everything worked out, but I do have a question. Is skiping both tornado and lightning storm worth having a exta 6% ranged defense and 20% S/L (for a total of 45% and 60%) -
Anyone have any build suggestions/etc especially with the storm summoning.
-
Dark/Dark Corr, Team Tank, Primary Mitigation.
Fire/Kin Corr, Primary damage dealer and buffer.
Rad/Rad Corr, To Ensure everything hits, every time. Secondary buffer/Debuff.
Sonic/Sonic, Everything we hit takes every ounce of damage. +Resistance and Status Protection.
Had this set up on a ITF, it was very game breaking. -
Quote:Cool story bro.So, Im glad the drop rates are back to normal. I still have a general question however. First Ill preface it.
Im English second language, older (40s), and very VERY drama-king type person. Very Old School non-USA customer service (i.e. I can teach the French about being rude, which is doubly funny because well I AM French).
So, the question is what is it about computer games that cause most people to doubt customer complaint?
I come from EverQuest, and, barring a few bells and whistles, the thing there on boards was exactly as I see it here. People complain about drop rate, mob toughness, power toughness, and the overwhelming response is either
I dont believe it. Or
Prove it.
And, to steal buzz words I know nothing about (friend is a lab tech), to prove it, you almost have to have a double blind placebo control trial with negated observer bias having an extremely high sample size (I have no clue what I just said, FYI) for it to be acceptable. Otherwise, its Not true.
Um why?
Heres a mirror example. When my wife and I go to a restaurant, she likes the steak to moo as she bites into it. Mine has to shatter on the floor if its dropped. She routinely orders her steak rare. When the waiter brings her the steak, she routinely sends it back, saying the rare streak is too cooked.
My friend works in the food industry. My wife IS getting a rare steak. What she wants (loosely translated from French) is Blue Steak. But, she thinks its overdone, so, the chef makes her a new steak, barely cooked. Facts dont really matter. Shell only eat it one way, her way. The waiters now know what my wife means by rare since we always go to the same place. They dont correct her, since she is the customer, but just give her the steak her way. Perception > Facts.
Ditto my friends wife when she visits. She asks for milk. We give it to her. The milk is perfectly fine, but she often feels It smells rotten. So, I take the glass, put it back in the fridge for us, for later, and she gets juice. The milk WAS perfectly fine. But she will not drink it, the end. But we dont go prove to my satisfaction the milk is bad we go to the fridge, and get her something else. Now, after the second or third type of drink shed reject, we DO go Well, then bring your own drink.
So, back to computer games, why do most communities demand proof when it comes to drops, mobs, powers, etc ? If enough people think something is a problem, in almost any industry, it either changes, or we get a It wont change sorry, and this is why of some sort through management. Or, at the very least silence. But we dont seem to get the vitriol for daring to complain that online boards give out.
I understand a bit about game balance, but isnt it still perception > facts? This isnt a science class, but a business, no? I completely get that, say, if 1 purple auto-dropped as EACH mission complete, it would totally ruin the game. It would render many if not most sets obsolete. Yet, wouldnt the Devs cave if 90% of the player base was quitting unless they dropped? Or, do you honestly think that (making up numbers) if subscriptions went from 300,000 to 30,000 because of not enough purples that Devs wouldnt up the rate, hoping to get customers back? And, if they wouldnt care to explain why?
If its only a few people, trust me, Ive done my share of Dont let the door hit you on the butt on the way out. French, remember? But, even without the Wah, Ill quit. Part, wouldnt well, common sense / courtesy / etc mean = let the person talk / vent / whatever?
Case in point, I too thought the recipe drops had been much lower. However, unlike the super-dedicated people that did 100s of runs, talking statistics I have no hope of even grasping, just to prove their point to the community and the devs, I just told my friends, and they agreed.
The runs you did, that was 1,000s of person-hours of work, just to not be yelled at, to avoid can I have your stuff posts, or to get dev attention. Stands to logic (I think) that means that if those hours werent invested, by the playerbase, by dedicated people, wed be still at low drop rates, from now until the end of time (fine, I superlatize, shoot me, and yes, its not a word but it should be, heh) and no-one would have known it.
But, I didnt dare mention it on the boards, for fear of retribution. Well, not drive-by retribution, but certainly a Im grumpy towards friends / family because the board yelled the crap out of me for daring to complain and now Im in a bad mood. type deal.
So, can people, using small words, and no cool phrases that a 40 year old will likely never grasp as to why computer games have so much of a prove it type mentality on boards, rather than most other places?
Any input to this daunted old man would be helpful.
Disclaimer = I press Power on my computer, and Double Click on City of Heroes, and hope to God it works, so keep that in mind if getting technical.
Side Note = People talk about BM hunting for Purple. What does that mean? Thanks.
P.S. Its late, but tomorrow, Ill post my Peanut Butter Toast story, that should show clearly my perception > fact issue. -

Quote:When in the context of comic book superheroes I don't think of it in pure healing terms, its more like protecting the mind/helping ignore pain and such. Forcefield powers would function as the perfect compliment by adding physical defense to the psychological defenses offered by empathy.Truthfully, I think Empathy is all wrong for the Defender type iconic Defender. All wrong.
Read a superhero comic. There just not that many (not saying there isnt any) Major healing type heroes.
Empathy is more the Iconic "group support" for MMOs. Not for Defenders though.
Besides that, I can agree with all of those.
For Defender...hmmm...Storm/Elec might just be it. -
Quote:I also agree with this.Yerah, if we're going for what is most iconic of the AT, Super Strength for Tankers wins hands down. Here are my choices:
Blaster: Energy/Energy
Controller: Mind Control/Force Field
Defender: Empathy/Psi Blast
Scrapper: Claws/Regen (or Dual Blade/SR)
Tanker: Invuln/SS
Brute: SS/Willpower
Stalker: Ninja Blade/Ninjitsu
Mastermind: Robotics/Devices
Dominator: Mind Control/Fiery Assault
Corruptor: Dark Blast/Dark Miasma
