but I never understood why people who want to solo go for Controllers...
[/ QUOTE ]
In my opinion, Controllers are the safest AT to solo. Yeah, the damage my be a bit light, but nowadays with a couple of Vet attacks, it's no big deal. You have all the time you need to beat the spawns because if you use your control properly, nothing is moving so you're not getting hurt.
Prior to the multi-summon Pet nerf and the AV HP and regen boosts, my Fire/Rad was the only one of my roster of characters that could reliably solo AVs. Endurance was my only limitation.
(Disclaimer: I don't have any scrappers. I wasn't into melee at the time.) -

Menu->Options-> tab-> Controls Tab-> Mouse Section -> Mouse Scroll speed

I have it on "20" where the value turns green. I guess that's supposed to be the regular scroll speed. -
14) There will always be a large, level 21 Clockwork ambush hanging around Positron - alledgely waiting to intercept a fedex mission from the Synapse TF.

so I might just delete it.

Wait a minute here.
Why are you even considering desolving the SG and your Base? Are those other guys in your SG actually friends or not? Are they pissing you off that much by existing that you seriously want to spite them by leaving them out in the cold?
Why do you believe that there isn't going to be the possibility that they'll welcome you back later and re-promote you? Do you really want to be guaranteed homeless when you return along with a bad reputation? -
I'll toss in: depending on your server, time of day/week/year, etc., you may want to allocate an extra .5 to 1 hour for recruiting.
-
It's always better to get as low a level Stealth IO as you can possibly get a hold of (drops or purchase) so that you can slot it that much sooner. Which is why the lower levels ones are usually more expensive. Yeah, the level 50s are cheap, but do you want to wait until you're level 47 to finally be able to have stealth (or to stack with your other stealth power)?

I'd strongly advise against Mind/Empathy if you ever intend to solo. While Mind isn't the worst soloing set, Empathy probably is (mind you, I know people who leverage it well solo but that's with very specialized builds).
[/ QUOTE ]
My main is an Emp/Energy, and she spent an awful lot of her trip to 50 solo. Along the way I learned a lot about using knockback to my advantage (they can't shoot you if they are flying through the air or flat on their backs) and using IO sets to add boosts to my powers. But I'll admit it would be rough for someone new to the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
That and well. For yourself, Empathy in particular really just amounts to one Heal, one Regen Buff and one Recovery Buff. Rad and TA conversely have nine Powers which will help you. Storm has eight, Kinetics has seven, Sonic has six and so on. Of course you'll still have another Set to rely on, but you'll have that no matter your Buff/DeBuff Set.
[/ QUOTE ]
Truly. My Emp/* Defender is the only character I've played that truly felt "naked" when soloing. Whereas on my Rad/* and Dark/* Defenders, soloing is no problem, and when on a team, I'd tank the spawns myself if the Tankers can't keep up. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have my own SG with nearly all the members being my own characters. Only 4 members are not mine, but do belong to two friends of mine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are these real-life friends of your's? Why don't you trust them to re-promote you when you return?
If you want an objective outsider, I'll SG/Base-sit for you. -
I don't start slotting Set IOs for bonuses until I have at least 4 slots allocated in the power. 4 slots minimizes compromising on the basic attribute boost percentages. By the time several/enough of my powers have 4 slots to be worthy of using a respec to cash out my common IOs, my character would be in the mid-30s. The mid-30s is a good time anyway, since you get the level ups with 3 slots to allocate, so you won't have to wait too long if you did have to make a compromise.
Of course, I'd try to pre-purchase the mid-30s Set IOs I'd want way before I'd need to use them. I have personal SGs and Bases with lots of bins, plus several semi-retired characters who have spare Market inventory slots to fish with low-ball bids. -

I thought the limit was 2 billion (2^31) for a single character.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is. Which also means you can bid, at most, 2 billion for anything in the auction house. Including things which do not exist in game yet are listed in the auction house. And money in a bid is not money on a character. So, 2 billion x (No. of auction house slots +1) is how much wealth, tops, a character can have access to, but no more than 2 billion at a time.

Back in the old days, pre-IOs, I would re-purchase batches of SOs, just so I could reslot them sorted by colors. -

but i'm always questioning as i level up weather or not i should try and focus on the primary skill set for my class, or to evenly distribute between primary and secondary.
[/ QUOTE ]
The way I develop my characters:
- Get 2-3 attacks right away or anything that can be used as an attack (hold, immobolize), so that you can reasonably defeat whatever you fight. Initial slotting are accuracy because nothing else matters if you can't hit, and endurance reduction so you can stay in the fight until the end.
- If the powersets you're playing has armor, pick them up as soon as they become available. Get them all, especially the one that provides mez (hold, immobolize, disorient/stun, knockback) protection. Slot them up. Allocate slots to your armors before your attacks, attacks mean nothing if you're dead.
- Decide on which travel power you want, get the prerequiste power for it. Note: if you choose Flight, you can pick up Air Superiority which is a very nice attack and can be one of the 2-3 attacks I mentioned. Flurry and Jump Kick are 'eh in my opinion, but you might like them.
- Some people swear by having Stamina from the Fitness power pool (I do), so get the prerequisites to it. Each of them are very good to have anyway.
- Start picking up your AOEs whether they be controls, buff, debuffs or attacks. Note: controller AOEs have an inherent accuracy penalty, have a long recharge, and cost more endurance than single targets, so slot accordingly.
- Pick up team oriented powers.
- Look forward to the 30s when you get more slots than powers at level ups. -

What's your primary? Tornado is a bit different if you have a primary that suppresses knockback on targets.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm Illusion/Storm, so no immobs available. I usually try to minimize scatter unless situations calls for me to completely let loose. Tornado's reputation for wonton scatter was why I passed it up. In addition to the damage Psi Tornado does, I took it for the additional "controlled" control it provides with its AOE knock up. But I've been hearing Tornado's damage is pretty good and was wondering if it was good enough to make it worth the scatter. -
How does Storm's Tornado compare to Psionic Mastery's Psionic Tornado?
I passed up Tornado on my */Storm and took Psionic Tornado because I have it on another Controller and liked it. I'm currently comtemplating using a free respec to swap out some Set IOs and started to wonder if I may want to try Tornado. What are your opinions? -
Anyone know if the new boxes come with a decent manual? Something compariable to the original COH manual. The COV manual was kind of 'eh.
-
The single target Hold, Air Superiority and vet Sands of Mu is all I need. Very seldom do I pick up the single target Immob. I have the vet Nemesis Staff, but for some reason, its accuracy sucks way more than Sands of Mu to the point where I don't find it reliable at all until I get some +tohit or +acc.

Was surprised at the much larger drop in SOFTWARE sales vs. console sales - for some reason I think of PC gamers as older, with more disposable income, less susceptible to economic pressures that force cuts in things we "want" vs. "need":
Video Game Sales Continue to Fall
MATT RICHTEL; Compiled by DAVE ITZKOFF
Published: May 15, 2009
Video game sales in the United States totaled $1 billion for April, 17 percent lower than in April 2008, according to NPD, the market research firm. This is the second consecutive month in which sales have fallen sharply compared with a year ago, suggesting that the industry is not as recession-proof as it had hoped. Software sales fell 23 percent, while sales of consoles and handheld players dropped 8 percent. In a news release Anita Frazier, an analyst at NPD, said, This years performance still represents the second-best performance for the industry in the month of April. But it also represents a sharp drop-off, as sales of major consoles have been falling month after month. In February Nintendo sold 753,000 Wii machines but sold only 601,000 in March and 340,000 in April. Microsoft sold 391,000 Xbox 360s in February, 330,000 in March and 175,000 in April.

Where are you seeing that he's including PC games in his figures? It looks to me he's only discussing consoles and handhelds, so by "software sales" I take that to mean the game cartridges or CDs for said consoles and handhelds. -
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this article about Zork the Movie.

How many old timers are there still around to be able to get the 60 months Vet Reward during this year anyway? I'm due for late June.

[ QUOTE ]
And hell - I'll be getting this for my birthday in July, and *I will deserve it*. It's a PERK of having paid for the game all this time, and enjoyed it all the way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Assuming one paid by annual plan right from the beginning, by 60 months, they'd have dropped $720 for this game. And if they paid monthly, that's $900 worth of dedication. Of course, this doesn't even take into consideration those hard core players with multiple accounts.
