Out of curiosity, do your quotes around the word buy dispute that one can buy a subscription, or does it merely indicate that buying a subscription is not the kind of purchase desired in this situation?
  2. Arcanaville, your efforts are greatly appreciated regardless of how much success you have. Especially since, as you have mentioned, this isn't your job. Thankyou!

Tonight it's been especially bad. Every. Single. Thread. That I've opened in the past hour has logged me out. I used to consider myself lucky that it almost never happened to me, and my luck has apparently run out.

They (IOs and restricted ATs) are grayed out, waiting for you to buy the appropriate licenses or to subscribe again. In fact, that's probably the most powerful thing about them, you can look at your gray IOs as they taunt you (especially the Taunt IOs). "I'm still here! Waiting for you to spend a little more money!"

(Similarly, you won't be able to unlock character slots occupied by restricted ATs. But you'll see them there. Waiting.)

Some things will always be available regardless of whether you're Premium or VIP, like costume pieces.

Can you point me to a redname post or one of Von Krieger's UStream transcripts in which it was said free/premium would get Paragon Rewards tokens? (Or, have the free second beta accounts been around for 30 days and thus evidence of how it works?) I thought that's how it worked, but when I went looking for evidence (I like to provide citations) all I found was, on the website, "Paragon Rewards gives you credit for every single month you are a VIP player".

Although the website still calls Reward Level "tiers" (which IIRC was changed to the aforementioned Reward Level) so it might not be up-to-date/accurate.

If I had things my way there'd be a separator between your last-visited server (labeled as such, too) and the list, and the list would have a Load heading and a Name heading. Clicking either would toggle ascending/descending sort based on that column. Default sort would be descending load. Maybe it could even remember the last way you sorted the list.

Not like it's important. Just the way I think it should work.
  8. I think the point is that he had to scroll down in order to see the most-populated servers, and that load/population seems to have nothing to do with server order as evidenced by heavy-load Freedom being between medium-loads Infinity and Virtue.

I'm just guessing and not even thinking about it very hard. For all I know there's no point trying to be made here at all.
  9. Well, it turns out on the next page of search results was my answer, I posted too soon! I was using /showfps wrong. Sorry! I feel stupid now.

    Original post:

When I use /showfps in-game I get 0.000000 as my result (there may or may not be more 0s, I didn't count).

Am I doing something wrong? Or are there any other ways to get a semi-accurate framerate?

If you recommend an application, please recommend one that is not a time-limited trial and/or does not require registration. (BTW, in case it matters for the application you have in mind, I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and I have an AMD Radeon HD 5750.)

    Thanks in advance.

Re: making characters on other servers... I've been exclusive to Justice. It's home. I mean, I've tried starting characters on other servers, but even though the maps look the same, they feel different. Like, "When I was here, I could tell you the speed we were travelling by the feel of the deckplates." Maybe there are latency quirks to Justice or something that I'm just used to. Or maybe I'm being silly and sentimental.

On that note, it would be scary if anyone could tell what server they were on just by, for example, looking at a netgraph. Anyone..?

EDIT: And I just crashed the Mac client trying to access one of the evidently offline servers, which was craftily labelled green. Well played, server, but we shall meet again.
I've been on Defiant for the past hour. Playing CEBR (with, of course, a Claws/Elec Brute), things slowly got more and more unstable. When I completed the AE arc I was unable to start up another AE mission. (Other global services like mail and chat were working, though.) I was able to log out and back in, too.

My netgraph on Defiant was intermittently spiked with red blocks. Doing a ping -t on my ISP revealed no packet loss and an average ping below 30ms.

If you want to blame me for pushing the server too hard, I would understand.

    Servers up?

I'm no longer able to get into Pinnacle, which has been officially recognized in the on-going announcement thread.

I tried to make a character on Infinity and that is inaccessible to me now, too.

There's a forum that indexes all community rep posts (and a separate one for the devs themselves) in case you ever want to check recent redname posts.

This thread under Announcements has been updated over the past 5 hours. It mostly reads, "servers down... still down... still down... some of them are up... now they're all up!... some of them are down again..." To make it less painful I recommend reading that in your favorite Personality Sphere voice. (I like the Space Sphere.)

    Servers up?

Went through the list, and I'm able to get to character select/creation on every server except Freedom and Justice.

Edit: Er, Vigilance (FR) also kicks me back to login (immediately, as opposed to holding up the client like Freedom and Justice). Zukhunft (DR) lets me into character select/creation, though.

    Servers up?

I also am unable to connect. I got "Unable to connect to DBserver" the first time I tried to connect to Justice. The second time was a much lengthier message about the login servers.

Likewise when one of your CoH characters gets a badge it makes no real sense that another character would automatically have the benefits of that badge as well.
An item is not a badge - although even in CoH one can transfer enhancements, salvage and recipes between characters via global name. Badges are like Xbox achievements or Playstation trophies, they record what a player has done in the game. Now that I think about it, it would be better (though unlikely given the need for new development) if all badges were account-wide, and an account's badge info included a list of characters that fulfilled the requirements for the badge. Only those characters could set the title. (And for Accolade Powers, only those characters could make use of the power.) Their name could also persist on the badge info, even after deletion, as proof that a player at one time did in fact accomplish some task.

The only time a reward should be exclusive to a system is if that reward is only useful in the context of that system. Accolade Powers are useful outside the context of badging. I think it is poor game design for them to be exlusive to the badge system.

There are different ways to get to 50. One doesn't have to do TFs, but can still reach 50. One doesn't have to participate in Mothership Raids, but can still reach 50. At certain levels, collecting/completing sets of badges earns decent XP. Heck, you don't even have to do normal missions or street-sweeping: I know others stigmatize it, but I don't care if you go 1 to 49 in an AE building.

Further, a badger gets Reward Merits and XP for collecting badges, which can get the same rewards I get for doing other content. Why isn't the reverse true?
  18. I wish that the badges unlocking costume parts or, for example, Midnighter Club access, were account-wide. (Regarding Midnighters, I'd pay to globally unlock that.)

For the Accolade Powers, I wish there was an additional means to get them for those that don't like badge-hunting. Perhaps buying them with one (or more) of our various flavors of merits.

I'm fine with there being a badge system. I'm not fine with it being (the only path) between me and valuable rewards.
  19. I know it wasn't exactly the original topic of the post, but I think the ability to switch characters instantly at a trainer would be great. You could be prompted (when applicable) whether or not you want the character to log in at your present location, or at their last logout position. (Obviously a pure villain shouldn't be allowed into Paragon, or someone without access to the Midnigher Club in Cim, but I see no reason why a character logged out in, say, Perez Park should be forced to travel to another city zone to regroup with a team that needed a tank instead of a blaster.) Players who want multiple (AT/set) builds on "one" character can treat it like that, too, since builds have to be changed at a trainer anyways, and it side-steps the issue of (not) having to use more character slots and whether or not leveling up the new build should be required.

I'm almost certain this would be absurdly difficult to implement and thus unlikely to actually happen, but it would be nice. One can dream. Don't wake me up.

I think there should be two options: the current salvage-based option, and the ability to just outright create the IO using a certain amount of Inf or Reward Merits. People who like collecting salvage and researching the most cost-efficient recipes to craft (either for resell, or for themselves) have their complex system, while those who just want to make the blasted thing have a single value to shoot for. Best of both worlds, IMO.
  21. The Alpha belt. Especially combined with Disco (Bottoms With Skin).

My Kheldians always use the Fireflies aura, it kind of looks like they're being circled by stars (IMO). I also like giving them the bioluminescent skin tops for at least one costume; peacebringers get a bright bluish white color while my warshade is, of course, purple.

I think the real question is: did you have issues before and no longer have them with 11.8?

I've played for several hours with the graphics slider all the way to the right in both beta and live, through trials and raids. No issues for me, but this computer never had issues to begin with so I didn't think it was worth reporting unless I did run into problems.

FWIW, the cape and aura missions have nothing to do with Icon or Facemaker and those mission arcs never send you to an Icon or Facemaker store.
(Hero: "Earn a cape" / Villain: "Steal a cape")

Icon and Facemaker are still needed for the tailor day job, costume slot missions, and the Super Tailor. Yes, you can buy costume slots, but you can only buy 5 out of 10 slots. If you want them all (or don't want to pay real money for slots) then you need to do missions for the tailors.

The "public trains being used by heroes" situation is silly. Something better would be Hero Corps helicopters, as an analog to the Arachnos Black Helicopters. An additional advantage of helicopter lines for Paragon would be the ability to go to Peregrine from any city zone (and vice-versa) without first having to go through Talos, the RWZ, or Ouroboros. You can either handwave paying Hero Corps (after all, we don't pay Field Analysts for their services - anymore) or acknowledge somewhere that they have a contract with the city to provide hero transportation. The only reason I didn't say "Longbow" is that I like blue more than red, but either group would be fine, and Hero Corps is the one that's a business; Longbow should be out fighting, not flying. Adding or moving helicopters should also be much easier than making sure a rail line is running somewhere, because that rail has to snake through a whole zone. I won't pretend to know the odds of this ever happening, though.

But trainers aren't really immersive in the first place. What's the problem with the addition of a non-immersive feature when it's located amongst other non-immersive features?
  25. Nothing has ever been immersive about the trainers. My biggest issue with them is that if you think of them as having an actual role in the world (instead of existing for purely game purposes) then you're railroaded into accepting that no hero (or villain) is capable of improving their powers without the tutelage of another hero (or villain). If you can ignore that, then you can ignore them having a tailor option, because you aren't forced to use the tailor option like you are forced to go to a trainer to train.

We should just get /train and /tailor (perhaps limited to non-instances). Keep Icon/Facemaker for day jobs and Super Tailors. Trainers can still have informational dialog and the stuff for titles and build-swapping, although I'd rather have them patrolling their zones with some Longbow. An information terminal can stand in their place.

I don't know if any of that is likely to happen since I don't know how hard it is to add commands to the game (even if the command just does what a dialog option currently does). Maybe there are even non-technical reasons not to change that. I dunno. It's just what I think they should do.
