True. Fortunately for Marvel it's happening in about two weeks.

As i recall, only the first character has to start as a Praetorian. You can make up 12 characters on any server.

i'm pretty sure you can sign up for multiple trials.

I wish there was a way to play this w/o having to pay every single month!
There isn't since the monthly fee is what pays for keeping the servers running and the addition of new content. That's why the client is basically free and you can sometimes find game boxes/codes that cost less than $15 despite coming with a free month of gameplay.

Keep in mind that trial account are limited to level 14 and you can easily reach that in a day or less when on a good team, so feel free to make and try new characters.

Bubble, Sonic, and Traps users are always in high demand for ship raids. i haven't had that many issues using squishier sorts on ship raids myself. That includes Dark Miasma users who not only have no mez protection, they also tend to use the Rikti Magi as debuff anchors, and a Grav/Storm who also focuses on going after the Magi. They do get faceplanted on occasion, but not usually so often that they spend all their time running back to the ship unless it's also happening to all the other raiders, in which case we're generally doing it wrong.

Agreed. It's a nice piece that works with many concepts.
  6. i've used "targetcustomnext enemy defeated" in the past for Soul Extraction targeting, so i'd normally expect "targetcustomnext teammate defeated" to work, but allowed bind syntax is not always consistent or obvious.

Just looking at slash commands at Paragon Wiki, I'm not sure if this is possible. I'm not an expert on binds though.
Normally the various targeting binds allow argument stacking where the implied link between arguments is "and" not "or", so adding more arguments restricts the number of valid targets, not expands it.

Found a link to a site in a bind thread that has this:
    Quote:
    Argument Stacking

The custom targeting commands permit more than one argument to be stacked - such as:
    target_custom_near friend alive
which will target only blue- and green-reticle characters who have at least one hit point.
As nearly as I can tell, combining the pet, teammate, friend, and enemy keywords with alive and defeated works just like you think it would:
    target_custom_near friend alive
will target green or blue reticle figures who have 1 hit point or more.
    target_custom_near enemy defeated
will target enemies who have zero hit points.
Actually, those examples are backwards from any useful ones, so let's flip them around:
    target_custom_near teammate defeated
will target the nearest teammate who's defeated and needs rez or tp out of the battle.
    target_custom_near enemy alive
will target only enemies who have not been defeated - which would be useful for a grapple bind written with the custom targeting commands, since there's no point in a scrapper locking on to a defeated foe.

Actually, i have changed my opinions many times, both in real life and on the internet, after discussing a topic with others. The insights and thoughts of others actually do affect my own, much like any other additional infromation can.

    Yes.
IIRC correctly the syntax would be something like "targetcustomnext teammate defeated", but i might be wrong.

The magic bolero shoulders can also be used with shirts.

And Furio: I leveled both a (post-Smoke fix) AR/Dev blaster and the FF/Energy defender in my userpic to 50, mostly solo, in the 04-06 timeframe. I've only just this last issue gotten around to making a build for the latter that uses IOs; she was already retired by their introduction. I remember when debt started at level 5, was the same inside missions as outside, and there was no patrol xp to counter it. I also had a controller who had to run across the Hollows to get to his mission doors. So, yeah. I know the way of the (old-style) squishy.

Schismatrix (and JKCarrier): Exactly. I'm sure my friends will be willing to bring me along, even if I contribute nothing of value to the team, but for the sake of my rather fragile self-esteem, I don't want to be (in my words of earlier) dead weight or a "leech."
If you can do better than running into every spawn running Whirlwind and promptly dying you're not a leech. As long as you're willing to try and listen to suggestions you're not a leech. If you spend the entire mission boomboxing at the entrance then you're a leech.

There are several players i team with somewhat regularly who simply aren't very good at the game, whether due to bad coordination and reflexes or not understanding how the game works. The only one i had the slightest problem with is the one who over a year later still insisted on trying to play this game as if it was one of the holy trinity MMOs. As long as you contribute i don't care if you're nowhere near being Omnibot Ubermensch 50,000.

I won't say the failure was all my fault, but I certainly contributed, and that wasn't a very good feeling. I don't want to be the anchor dragging everyone else down, especially when there's special rewards (shards, badges) at stake.

I'm glad that there's harder content for the people who want it. But in their zeal to appeal to that group, I hope the devs don't forget about the rest of us n00bs and lamerz.
The thing is that even the Incarnate TFs can be completed with six or fewer well-built and well-played characters. As long as you're not doing things like running Group Fly when teammates have powers that require being on the ground, any contribution you can make, be it as Vengeance or Fallout fodder, is useful. As long as you're fun to have on the team it doesn't really matter to me if you can solo AVs or have issues taking on more than two even con minions.

i think i skimmed through a "What IF" comic recently that used that same premise. Or maybe it was Tony Stark and Doctor Doom. Also didn't the Ultimate Fantastic Four use the Victor and Reed switching bodies/roles thing a couple years ago?

i predict that whatever the storyline death will be it will be terribly done and very temporary.

I have played for 4 years, so obviously I like the game, but I hate when they give out explanations like that. Too much work, can't with engine, blah, blah, blah. Polearms/staves/nunchuks, and so on would be great for powersets on their own or customization. If they tell me the ROI is not acceptable, then that I can accept. So how about the Devs tell us what types of powers are doable instead of us suggesting them.
1.) "Can't with engine" is kind of a dealbreaker for any vaguely sane human being working on a game. Making a new engine takes years, and wouldn't be done just for a single powerset. So, yeah, if it can't be done with the engine it's not going to happen unless the game gets an engine remake. (Sometimes it's possible to find a novel workaround that doesn't break things too badly. "Novel workaround" generally means that it's something that can't be planned on since it hasn't been thought of until someone goes "Eureka!" and then confirms it will in fact work. A lot Eurekas end up not actually working.)

2.) They can't do that. There is no sane person who would expect the Devs to not only think of every power suggestion that could ever be made, and then also think of every way that every power could or couldn't be done. That's only slightly less reasonable than asking the Devs to personally visit every player on the planet to discuss their ideas.

So anyways, I went ahead and made my character (put the skeleton on hold for now), and I have to admit I'm really enjoying myself. Combat felt a little clunky at first, until I figured out how to put my basic punch on an auto-attack. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of the game, so if you see Hoss on the infinity server, make sure to give him a few pointers.

Quotes shouldn't even be needed with a single command. The quotes in his case are correct if there were a space anywhere in the command path. It should work with or without them... unless he's using the wrong kind of quotes in the actual file. I've seen cases where people use a text editor that has the special curly quotes in the files, which wont work.

Bind files are picky sometimes. Since quotes aren't needed around his file path anyway, putting quotes around the entire ind might just do the trick. Either way, it's worth a shot.
So omitting the quotes entirely might work as well since it's not multiple commands.
And yeah, i've noticed that some text editors don't always use characters that the game likes. So far i've found that using very basic text editors and saving as .txt files has worked for me.

An unrelated question: So I know the character customization in this game is, well, rather large. So, I ask: is it possible to make a character that is a skeleton? Or could at least pass for one? I have a character that's been bouncing around in my head for a while and I want to know if I can actually make him or if I need to go back to the drawing board.
While you can't make a skeleton torso and pelvis/legs, there are skull heads, and the skeletal cyborg arms are, well, skeletal in design if a bit obviously mechanical. So depending on your concept you can make characters that look as if they're skeletons wearing clothing or armor, just not naked skeletons.
