Quote:The problem isn't so much whether the animations exist already, but the linking of animations. To eliminate redraw and match the weapon type to the other set would probably require a lot of coding work to adapt the animations so that the combat modes work together. And it also has to be able to call the correct weapon models and animations for every power to match the other set that it's currently being used with. Either that or you have to create a separate powerset for every weapon it can be used with that is automatically selected when the character is created. Or something like that. i don't remember exactly how the animation sequencers work, but i do recall that powers like Brawl had to have separate animations coded for each weapon set to eliminate redraw.I'd guess that AR and the bots mastermind weapon could use similar animations, and many of the animations they'd need are already out there for something in the game, I think.
I was at some point told that in fact redraw has stopped causing a substantial change in attack times, but it'd still look a lot nicer to have Trick Shot produce the same results using whichever weapon you wanted to pair it with. -
Quote:If you can't easily cap Melee and Ranged or all three positions then Smashing/Lethal defense is generally the fallback choice because the majority of damaging attacks have at least one of those as a component.So... if someone has an attack that does 10% smashing and 90% energy, but my highest defence is smashing, then that is the defence used against the entire attack? That's interesting. Most melee attacks (not all, but most) have some element of smashing or lethal to it, so I guess that's why everyone says s/l defence is the best bet for close combat defence?
The defense tags for attacks are not determined by the damage types of the attacks. If the Devs wanted to do so they could make an attack that does pure psionic damage with a 100' range and tag it as being defended against as melee, smashing, cold.
Bah! Tex was first. -
Quote:You can have your bloody Lobster Armor after i get Carp Melee and Carp Armor. Been waiting at least three years for it already. Not saying this can't happen, but it's fairly unlikely. One part did change, and that's higher tiers of alpha piercing more of ED. Stuff that changes is usually minor tweaks. When Castle was working on Shield Defense, he tweaked values and re-ordered powers. He didn't suddenly make the set about defending oneself with armor made out of live lobsters (which is a shame).
Though there is one level in particular that bothers me and I hope they do change it. But that's still a stat thing. And I'll save my feedback for issue 24 beta. -

Quote:This basically. High regen coupled with other sources of mitigation increases survivability enormously, but it doesn't function quite the same as defense and resistance. There is no correct rule of the thumb like that for regen. The "mitigation" provided by Regen is constant whereas that from Def or Res is relative to incoming damage.
Regeneration based survival usually has a rather binary nature: either the damage per second can't outpace your regen and you'll never be defeated, or you're defeated in seconds.
Like the old saying about the original Regeneration powerset used to go: "Being Regen Scrapper is a lot like snowboarding: you either look awesome or you're dead." -
Quote:Well, the major misinformation related to confuse is claiming that it reduces xp/minute, which is the opposite of the truth if you actually attack in addition to confusing enemies. It does reduce xp per enemy slightly, but the faster and safer defeat rate means that xp over time is greater."Confuse powers steal XP"
This is one I see and confront on a regular basis. Confuse powers can't take away XP that you have earned. It persists mainly because there is a slight grain of truth in it -- Confuse power CAN reduce the available XP that you could earn if you killed everything on the map, but the effect will be minor if the players know how to deal with Confuse powers. Confuse powers have so many benefits that this myth is frustrating. And, as far as I know, nothing can "steal," or take away, XP you have already earned.
Basically the only way confuse could slow down xp gain is if there was a limited supply of enemies in the game. Since we have an infinite supply of things to beat up that's not an issue. -
Quote:Well, i suppose it's possible to be starved for SO funds if you got your character to 50 in a day using an AE exploit. Of course that presumes that you don't know that the AE tickets can be traded in for items that will sell for many times what a full set of level 50 SOs would cost.Je may know about technical issues (I don't know, but I have heard she does), but her knowledge of the market and game economics is not good.
I don't trust someone to post about the market in a misinformation thread, when that person has posted in the last 3 months that 95% of the entire playerbase is struggling to SO their avatar at lvl 50.
Well before there was a market any player by the early forties would have more inf than they needed for SOs. It was up until the mid thirties that funds tended to be insufficient. Of course the usual workaround was to arrange an inf transfer with the help of a friend to the lower level alts. Which was a bit tedious back when you were only allowed to trade 99,999 inf at a time. -
It's also during a season when a lot of people don't have much free time to do it. Some people actually work much longer hours than usual during this season.

There's an alert message when the Devs want there to be one, but being the Devs it's only there when they want it. The Devs have the powah!

Quote:About half of what g_b posted are examples of misinformation. And like most other misinformation it's mixed in with assertions that aren't wrong. A fine blend of the correct, irrelevant, and outright wrong. Also, like most misinformation that is given out, he probably doesn't even know that some of it is wrong, he really thinks what he's posting is correct. (Some of it of course he thinks is misinformation, but even then there's a good chance that he's wrong about it being wrong.1) tankers need taunt
2) the devs hate farming
3) farming is wrong
4) there is pvp
5) the game is dying
6) triumph is alive.
7) you need to wear pants
8) roleplay is fun
9) insperations are cheating
10) you dont need ios)

i was doing some missions from Tina's arc earlier and was having great fun fighting the IDF troops. The only downside to the assorted Freedom Phalanx members who come along is that with Tactics' +perception running they go aggro-happy like fusionette on a quad latte. Keeping Posi alive was especially difficult except that he (and the others?) seems to have scaling resistances or invulnerability when low on hp. While running around switching targets at random he quickly got down to about 10% hp, but it never went lower despite him constantly trying to hit the aggro cap. (i was running solo with team size setting in the 4 to 6 range.)
Anyway, i finally saw the Heavy Trooper weapons backpack in action. It's one of the coolest pieces i've seen in game for a long time. The cannons and missile pods simply look badass. The IDF armor by itself is nicely designed, and i'm really hoping we'll be getting tintable version of the gauntlets, boots and torso pieces in the near future, but that weapons pack is fantastic. -
Quote:Absolutely. i would love to be able to ride on the blimp and go car surfing.I've always known it would be difficult to do. I got a reply from... Castle? Years back on the subject of car surfing. Heck it might have been pohsyb. On the other hand that's been said for years. Maybe it's time they actually considered it. If for no other reason than for finally letting me ride that damn blimp.

Hmmm, i'll come up with resolutions yet. Possibly my first will be to stop procrastinating about making resolutions.

Quote:Hey! Gimme my five dollars back!Fine then. See this $5 bill in my wallet? I'm not giving it to you.
By your rationalization, you just lost $5.
Aside: i was being facetious when i referred to free transfers with the next paid expansion. As far as i know there are no current plans to add any more paid expansions to the game, so that could be never. Free transfers was a one time thing that sets no precedent for any sort of schedule or repeat. It could happen, but there's no reason at this time to expect them on any sort of schedule or to view them as an entitlement. Not that it will stop some people from insisting otherwise... -

Adding the ability to inflict damage to moving vehicles isn't directly related to the physics engine making it impossible to ride on moving objects. The two have no direct relation to each other. Actually, the more i think about it the harder it seems to me to implement damage and KB for vehicles in a way that works how players would want it to work, so adding that capability might require an overhaul or replacement of the game engine anyway.

Quote:i predict that Melissa will not mention the state of your mage's costume in the state of the game address.IIRC, I only got two replies and couldn't really make much of either, so I kind of forgot about it.
i also predict that this thread is a bit premature, but that's not wholly unexpected in light of the source.
i further predict that some of the unspecified, vaguely alluded to longstanding issues will have been fixed and others may well have been reintroduced by the time the state of the game address happens. The ones that have been fixed might be mentioned to the extent that they're related recent additions to the game at the time of the address.
i also further predict that in general longstanding issues that have not been fixed will not be directly addressed in the address since discussing assorted minor points of dissatisfaction for some players is not really the purpose of the address. (No, really.)
All these predictions (and more) for the low, low price of nothing! Posted for free, here in these forums! -
Quote:Well it's not like the event significantly interferes with anyone who doesn't want to participate, so i see no issues with it being extended for those who want it. i still have a few alts that could use some of the badges and shinies from the events, but keep finding that i lack the urge to grind it out for the candy canes required after having done it on two characters already.Other than having a few of my guys take on Lady Winter, I've not participated at all in this year's winter event and have in fact been absent for most of it. A slight case of the Ho Ho Humbug, as it were. I would not mind at all, however, if it was extended a bit for those still enjoying it.
Let the good times roll. Seylah! -
i think the pieces should be unlocked by having Going Rogue. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
