Quote:Sadly i've never been able to get Pandora to work well for me. It might be that my favorite bands/performers tend to be grouped with other bands that have more in common with their instrumentation than their actual themes and style. That listening to multiple genres gives results where the few crossovers are usually horribly insipid attempts to cash in on a perceived trend by a major label.Ah! I'm glad you didn't disappoint by failing to mention that
In other topics Pandora IS awesome. My radio in my car is broken so I listen to Pandora on my phone while I drive. It is great
Not that i listen exclusively to exotic/indie/underground/counterculture music or some such elitist garbage. It's just that what appeals to me about a band may have more to with that band's individual approach and style rather than a liking for the genre they're associated with as a whole.
Then again the few times i tried Pandora was years ago and they may have refined their algorithms since then. In my case it was that i listed a few aggrotech bands and Pandora decided that meant i liked trance, techno and Europop bands. All of which i usually find tolerable only in small doses.
i should try putting in some punk and ska bands and see what happens. -

Quote:Ah, i can see the AFK, but my experience using it for shadowy resting has been that by the time it takes effect i'm already back to full health and endurance. Still, if Rest is recharging i can see how it would be useful to hide from patrols while waiting for natural regen ticks to do their work. It's a butt-saver. I've used it to hide from patrols when I have absolutely no health. I've also used it for AFK purposes when I'm not sure if wandering enemies are located. I've also used it to indicate I'm AFK in roleplay; nothing says "AFK" like fading to black!

Quote:Does anything come up in game if you type it in brackets?Must be just a glitch. It only appeared when I was on a Preatorian map. Once I left the map, the listing disappeared.
All I can figure is it must refer to a Clockwork power that ownership of the pet errently transfer to me after I defeat it. Just re-entering the map does nothing. -
Has anyone found a situation where Shadowy Presence is useful yet?
i still give it some thought every now and again, but so far haven't found a use aside from doing emotes as an inky blot while remaining otherwise completely stationary.
(Yes, Shadowy Presence was part of Issue 18 and Going Rogue, but no use for it was found before 19 was released, so i'm hoping one of the issues eventually adds something that makes the power relevant.) -
Quote:Well, it's a terrible excuse for them because it isn't them.Animation aside, Ninja Run is a terrible excuse for SS/CJ, just sayin :P
Besides, it requires zero power selections and zero power pool choices instead of two or three power selections and two power pools. i find it a useful compromise between the two. Several of my higher level characters have just Ninja Run and some movement bonuses and still move faster than a flying character.
Luckily you never have to use it unless you want to use it.
Now Shadowy Presence is just a terrible excuse for a power and also a terrible excuse for an emote or visual effect. i never put it in any of my trays. -
Quote:Well, the petless MM is pretty limited and gives up most of their effectiveness. If it's within a set group or it's warned ahead of time? I have no problem with that. But it's the random jackalope that you get once or twice a year that will not only have a near useless concept character that will join your team and then become very pissed off about any questions about it.
The classic: The petless mastermind.
2nd Runner up: The pug stalker
3rd Runner up: bow defenders

The PuG Stalker isn't really an issue with the character, concept or not, so much as an issue with the player.
Bow Defenders can be pretty effective. A well played Bow Defender will still outperform almost any other poorly played Defender.
Wait, i'm replying to humorous posts as if they were serious again. Ah well.
i'm pretty sure i remember reading the major NPC bios in game years ago, but i don't recall if that was just the TF contacts, the trainers, or both.

Quote:Yeah, that was his character/main account IIRC. He also was trawling the forums with a couple different accounts as well if memory serves.I think the guy's name was Twixt. Or...something like that, anyways.
Can't remember the Prof's real life name. i'd guess it was an obscure Hungarian term for emotionally and intellectually stunted man-child, but, again, i can't quite recall. -
Quote:i could easily unslot almost any alt of mine by burning already available respecs as well. And buying a respec recipe is pretty cheap.Yet, I have a huge stack of unused Respecs available to me. I could probably unslot most of them with the respecs. And I can always get more respecs. So I could already unslot my IOs if I wished.
What would make this worth the costs is that it's more convenient that doing a full respec. Especially if there's just a couple enhancements i want to unslot and either reslot in the build or use/sell elsewhere. -
Quote:i thought the same thing a bit after i posted it, but by that time i was busy at work.Too cheap.
((Character Level+Enhancement Level)*1,000,000).
i think that it should not scale linearly with level though.
((Character Level^3)*1,000)+(Enhancement Level*2,000) to unslot an enhancement is better in my opinion.
Each enhancement unslotted at 10 is 1,000,000 base plus the enhancement fee. 20 is 8,000,000+. 30 is 27,000,000+. 40 is 64,000,000+. 50 it's 125,000,000+. Still not perfect, but it's a thought.
Also good. It's an interesting mechanic that i think would be more satisfying in a number of ways than just paying a fee in the enhancement screen.
However, i like the mechanic of character level also increasing the costs to unslot, but maybe that's just me. -
Quote:Ah, such a waste of energy. That reply would have been spot on.Rereading the original post, I have a hard time believing this guy/girl was a real newbie and not someone trying to win some recurring board argument with a throwaway account. One of the most ridiculous endeavors of the boards are trying to lay claim to what "new players want." I mean, who really talks like this:

Quote:Less than half the time do my team invites involve typing. i suppose that might be part of the issue.Slightly annoying "bug" is not worth the amount of angst being generated by this thread.
Type slower and adapt. Not a big deal. Teams will still form in a timely fashion.
Still... ANGST?! Bwuh? Is this a new use of the word?
The vast majority of posts have expressed either humor, irritation, or humorous irritation.
No no, for angst i suggest something a bit stronger.
Like an emo lawn. They're low maintenance. -
i'm thankful that the work week is over and there's no more snow predicted for the area until Wednesday.
Also thankful that i was able to get to work today so that i'll have all weekend to work on a sculpture project that i'll be showing on the 29th. -
i like the idea of rechargeable temp powers as inf sinks.
i also like the idea of being able to unslot individual enhancements by paying a fee. i wouldn't do it as a straight cost per level. Partially because some of the most valuable IOs of a given type are actually the lowest level available. Maybe make the fee ((character level^2)*500)+(enhancement level*2,000) or something similar. -
Quote:Indeed. Instead let's understate their effectiveness and assert mez protection for mobs that doesn't actually exist.Aett:
You are right, there are for the Controllers/Dominators mostly AOE mez attacks that can be used, but lets n ot exagerate their effectiveness.
What i want to know is where these incorrect game numbers and nonexistent game mechanics i see being tossed around by the occasional forumite come from. i've occasionally been uncertain or posted the wrong value, but generally i don't cite AT-wide incorrect values or cite game mechanics that don't exist. Where does the occasional poster that asserts them get these values and mechanics?
i doubt they're making up things that they know are wrong and easily disproved, so where is this misinformation found? -

Global channels do make teaming easier on all servers. Also, saying hello in the forum of the server of your choice is also a good way to find new friends and teammates.
That said, when you look at the server list the last server you logged on to is always at the top. From there it shows servers in order of load, with the lowest load at the top and the highest load at the bottom. Load mostly corresponds to how busy each server is since more players adds more load. Mostly but not completely since some activities and events may put more of a load on a server than others. -
Quote:Sure. i mean, since it was basically one shot. Errr, unless i made several others recently that i've forgotten. In which case i still say sure, but i retain the option to take one or two more if it feels appropriately inappropriate. i do almost feel bad about the name calling. Almost. i was trying to tactful and not fully stating my opinion, but it may have been a bit strong anyway. There's something about people who are aggressively and willfully ignorant that gets to me when i'm in a bad mood. *shrug* If it's completely out of line i'm sure i'll have been redacted in that post by now.oh and schism, could we dial back the personal shots there? its fine to disagree with someone's opinions, but the name calling was just low class.
At least it's not like i was posting something that others might have thought, but have been too well-mannered to state. -
Quote:Okay, that's amusing.I don't think it was Schismatrix's family that had the good taste....
Although if you hadn't felt the need to quote the golden lackwit i would have never known what she driveled in response to my post.
Still, i admit to having the terrible taste required to appreciate and care for horses and yet only rarely ride them. i can see that actually taking care of horses and improving their health and comfort is inferior to riding them and then having someone else take care of them afterward, but then none of us are as morally and aesthetically superior as the spoiled princess of shallowland, right?
....
*heh*
People who base their judgment on the morality of eating animals solely on how cute they find the animal or simply what adults said when they were children are people who probably don't spend much time thinking about morality at all.
Still, i suppose if you're going to decide which animals you will and won't eat arbitrary standards handed down from others and blindly followed is better than nothing. -
A little late for that i think.
Kind of like closing the barn door after the rest of the structure burned down.
(Incidentally, have you run into Elric since you're in his home town? The jerk owes me twelve gold royals. Arioch be cursed, but that lad is bad about his debts.)
