Good point. The Scrapper, Tanker, and Stalker on the Apex run i did Wednesday night each died at least 5 times each and my Defender didn't die once. Battle Maiden spent most of her time chasing me around since the non squishies kept dying and losing aggro while i kept my debuffs running and blasted away at her. i was half tempted to type, "lol Battle Maiden, u mad?" as she chased me. Sadly the need to keep moving and queuing attacks while paying attention to the patch warnings made it seem like a bad idea.

Yesssssss... Do EEET!
He was helping me move the meat locker, he wasn't doin' nuffin' wrong. Certainly not using any suspect technologies to reveal truthiness. -
How many level 50's are you attempting to 'become an incarnate'?
Approximately 4.5 right now.
Do you feel that doing more than say one hero and one villain is doing 'too much at once'?
Nope.
Do you feel a shift has occurred to more time devoted solely to level 50's leaving far less time to level an alt?
Yup.
Do you feel this is a good thing?
*shrug* Neither good nor bad. i play whatever interests me the most at the moment.
Do you seem to not have enough time to devote to alt characters because you feel you need to be collecting shards and such?
All my characters are alt characters for the most part.
Do you think changing the Weekly Task Force to a Bi-monthly Task Force would be 'better'? Perhaps offering a more relaxed atmosphere for the playerbase?
Actually i don't think it matters to me. If i do miss a WTF it just means one less Notice of the Well. i certainly don't mind having the option to get one once a week on each character rather than once or twice a month.
Am I just nuts?
No, or at least not 'just' nuts. (^_^) -

Quote:This. My advice is, if you are just starting to look at IO sets, don't start with purples.
It's amazing how much you can improve your build with a relatively cheap application of Thunderstrike, Crushing Impact, Doctored Wounds, Red Fortune and the like.
If, after you fool around with the affordable stuff, you find that you are having fun and still want to do more with your build, then you can step up to the higher priced stuff.
i have one alt with a single purple hold set slotted. The rest have used other sets and generally have softcapped defenses (which really aren't achieved with purples anyway) and more than sufficient recharge and other bonuses to be very effective. There are several i would spend the money to outfit with purple sets if i received a couple pieces from the sets as drops. At that point it would be worth it to me. -
Quote:Mmm, and yet i wasn't expecting to catch any trolls since it was way too obvious. Instead i was expecting to get a bunch of people who thought the other thread was silly and would appreciate this thread as a mostly whimsical spoof of the other thread.Oh I knew this was basically a troll-bait thread. I thought I just respond to it by saying "the point of this thread is pointless" in my own vague way.
*You have posted a trollbait spoof thread. It's super defective!*
Thus far my expectations have been fairly well met.
*You have have captured a wild Beastyle.*
And a redname to boot. -
Okay, Spawn and Venom i can see as being fairly recent iconic comic book characters having been created in the 90s, but Iron Man has been around longer than Wolverine.
Within the context of comic book characters i think Deadpool is currently somewhere near the same level of recognition as Venom and Spawn.
Offhand i can't think of any DC characters created in the last two decades who have a similar level of recognition. -
Quote:That was funny. i was hanging out in the Talos tram deciding which alt to switch to after the team had broken up when i started seeing chatter in broadcast about a Kronos Titan. i headed out of the tram and there was your corpse sprawled at the top of the hill with the Kronos Titan slugging it out with some other heroes at the bottom. Thanks to you i got the badge.Yeah, that was me. I bet the cheap ganker just waited beyond the horizon for the AFK chat bubble to appear...

It's certainly not me since i have used black and red in the same villainous costume at least once.
Still, who here can proudly say they haven't done it? -

Quote:Yes, but dependencies like tying spawn sizes glowy clicking in a previous mission, or triggering critter spawns when a player exits a zone, or even increasing drop chances if a player has debt are all things require being explicitly coded in, and it's adding additional layers of complexity and possible bugs for no apparent balance or thematic reason, so it's very unlikely to have happened. Testing had shown that the first two were never true, and the debt=more drops is almost certainly not true either. Although at least the last one would be using recently created code. This is all very true, except programmers do write things into the code that they don’t tell you about or want you the player to know about right off the bat. So while unlikely maybe things along these lines were written in and then removed, but as any programmer knows removing lines of code is not as easy as highlight and delete.
Additionally City of Heroes is not fresh out of the box as it were, it’s been updated, changed and fixed for almost 7 years now, there are likely billions of lines of code, and millions of these lines have likely been written out of the game but are still there effecting things in ways that not even the programmers really know or understand. Basically it comes down to if it isn’t broke don’t fix it and when it is broke fix it only enough to get it working again. So your guess is as good as mine and even as good as the programmers.
Basically, only an idiot do would the extra code required to have drop rates affected by debt status without a good reason to do so and there is none. -
Quote:Well, according to what i've read shard drops are rolled for every eligible member of the team when an enemy is defeated. There is no "gets the roll and game kicks the salvage over to" effect. The game doesn't create a shard and then go "gosh, now I've got to give this to somebody on the team." Everyone getting a roll for a shard drop is different from the standard drop mechanism and gives greater rewards for teaming than the other drop systems. There are two things I wonder about when it comes to shard drops, having read the above post and knowing full well that my mind is likely playing games on me I still get the feeling that there are two factors that are different when it comes to shards.
First, I cannot help but think that the fewer players on your team that are 50 and can get shards the greater your chance is of getting more shards. Playing on an ITF team with 4 50’s and 4 less than 50 players I can walk away with 12 maybe even 15 shards, but playing with a team of 8 50 all looking for shards I might only get 5 or 6 shards. I know this is mind remembering the events that turned out very well for me, but I’ve seen it happen again and again.
As we play though the game at any level and we kill a mob the game rolls to see if anything will drop, numbers come up and ding salvage drops, then the game rolls to see who it is that will get said salvage. Let’s say player two gets the roll and game kicks the salvage over to player two and if that player has room the salvage lands and the player get a notice of salvage drop. However if the salvage is full the new items bounces off and drops into the void to never be seen again and no one is the wiser. This has been reported as true by the developers and we all except it.
For shards though I feel, and again this is just my perception, that when a mob dies and the game rolls a shard drop and determines a receiver it further checks to see if that player can even receive a shard, are they 50 and if so do they have their alpha unlocked, if they don’t meet these criteria then the shard bounces to another player rather than down into the void.
Second, when I play on my AoE blasters with a good team that can keep agro off me and I’m allowed to just go nuts with the damage I walk away with twice and sometimes three times more shards than anyone else on the team. So that brings up the question does risk equal reward with shard drops? Will someone that does twice or even three times the damage of others on the team walk away with more loot?
I’ve never ever had a purple drop on my controller or my tank but I have on my scrapper and my blaster.
This discussion reminds of other game myths regarding certain actions causing certain effects. People used to insist that clicking glowies during a blueside respec trial caused extra enemies to spawn in the reactor, and there were also people at the original Hamidon raids that insisted that leaving the zone during the raid caused mito splits. The thing to keep in mind is that in order for the game to do things like that the programmers would have to explicitly code such mechanics into the game. At that point it's worthwhile to ask what is the storyline or balance justification for adding such a mechanic. Generally things like that aren't added because the programmer had whim. -
Quote:Hell, when i started there were no help pop-ups. Then again there were no difficulty settings either. i had to find out everything by talking to players in game or reading the forums. Uphill both ways. In the snow. With a family of foulmouthed talking lemurs on my back. During the hottest part of the summer. If "the point" of your post was that new people can't figure out how to turn their difficulty down, maybe it should've been expressed in something other than one throwaway sentence at the very end.
I expect new players figure out how to change their difficulty settings the same way the rest of us did, or possibly by reading the new help popups.
The help pop-ups are pretty nice. As are the loading screen tips. Other than Praetorian mobs being a bit tougher than the other starting zones i'd say this game is considerably more newb-friendly in its design now than it was at launch. -
i can get behind that. While i never farm in the sense of repeating the same mission over and over i will pick soft targets when soloing tip or paper missions. Mostly Carnies when available. The MIs and RMs are mildly annoying, but the rest die quick.

Quote:I've never seen or heard of anyone charge for farms redside.Quote:Well then. I guess since you are all seeing and all knowing that would be thread over. Last person out turn off the lights please.Quote:Annnnnd yet they do on Grandville on Freedom prior to AE and after. Especially on double xp weekend.
You Fail.
Again.Quote:What rock have you been living under? I play almost exclusively on red side/freedom. People DO charge for farms. I'm not saying everyone does it, but I run into it all of the time.
Then again i rarely play redside on Freedom since i generally prefer the redside crowd on Virtue, so that might be it, but i doubt it. -
Quote:Yeah, i've despised the Palladium rules for a long time even if i like the concepts behind some of their settings. Even adapted the Rifts setting to a mashup of Mekton and Cyberpunk 2020 to make it less dumb. Still, if someone insists on running Rifts in the Palladium system i must admit it's absurdly easy to munchkin the system. The whole system and setting practically oozes cheese.Oh, no, I didn't run Palladium Fantasy....
I ran Rifts. It was bad. Very, very bad. Handguns that level towns bad. Magician who can zap a bad guy for 4d6 a round vs. power armor soldier who can dish out 3d6x10 per round and take 800 points before you get through his armor. And that's all mega-damage - multiply by 100 to get SDC damage. -
Quote:Interesting. i never noticed that before. The only spawning behavior i've taken for granted at base difficulty is that most factions spawn some in a mix of 3 minions, or 1-2 minions and 1 lt, or 2 lt. And not all factions follow that rule either. The thing is yeah, we always had enemies spawning as +1 to the current difficulty, but ever since the difficulty setting revamp, that system was borked.
For example, you could have three minions at +0 or two minions at +1, or a minion and a lieutenant at +0 but just a lieutenant at +1. The +1 mobs were smaller to make up for their increased strength. -
None are farm "toons" per se, but i do have alts who solo at x4 or higher when running missions. i don't run the same mission over and over, but i have run some AE arcs at least halfway because i wanted tickets even if i do choose them based on how interesting they are.
i don't see what there is to be proud of one way or the other. Still, if it gives you a little glow of superiority to tell yourself that you never, ever farm go for it. i don't mind. i'll continue doing whatever whim gets my attention at the time and doesn't cause grief for others without worrying about what anyone else thinks or does. -
Or when a Fire Tanker could herd an entire map and destroy them himself if he was willing to take a few seconds longer.
-
Quote:They can be annoying sometimes, but they've been in the game since Issue 0, so at this point i suspect it's working as intended. Even at the lowest levels i normally don't find +1 enemies that bad except on the occasions where i get a patch of "the RNG hates me". When i've had a really bad run of luck on a lowbie alt i either find a team or go play a different (higher level) alt for a while.Edit - wow, that is a wall of text. TLDR version - +1 spawns at low level on default difficulty suck.
Back before the difficulty settings it was worse since bosses would spawn solo. Personally i find that VEATs aren't the squishiest AT at any level, but later on they do get all sorts borderline overpowered with a moderate investment in IOs. -
Quote:My PBs do some knockback, but having played Storm Summoners and generally being quite mobile in combat i usually don't have much difficulty minimizing knockback or even turning it into an advantage. Cysts are rare and generally just bonus xp for most people i play with. Voids and Quantums did inspire me to make a bind i use on my PBs: /bind <key> "say Out of my way! $target is mine!"I never play my PB on a team. I would feel like I was griefing them with the constant knockback, Cysts, and the danger of me suddenly croaking due to a Void/Quantum I didn't see.
I am familiar with hover blasting, but I really don't enjoy it.
Still, if you don't enjoy an AT or powerset combo then don't play it. -
i've seen that many times in the AP broadcast on Freedom and a couple times at the same location on Virtue. i generally just laugh and pay them no further attention.
i suppose Nihili's characterization of those who do it for free might apply to Freedom or just the people he knows *shrug*, but all the (admittedly not a large amount of) times i joined AE farming teams for a little while they did not charge me anything and weren't anything like those Nihili has met. Then again i've never joined an AE farm on Freedom.
