Part of the initial appeal of a new game is that it is new: that's why we wipe beta testers. Everyone has a chance to get in on the ground floor. Even pre-order and premium head starts tend to be very short.
i may be an anomaly in this regard, but i would have no problem starting over from scratch if a sequel came out. Although i would expect CoH2 to be a significant upgrade to CoH to justify the change/switch. Not merely a graphics and combat engine revamp, but a total gameplay overhaul. i would hope that it would, for example, rather than archetypes use a powers framework system much like what you've mentioned before.

The major problem with implementing an overhaul of the combat system and archetypes within CoH instead of releasing a sequel is the possibility of a similar sort of backlash to what SWG had when NGE came out. Of course i don't think that the Devs here could so utterly bollix it up like that, any significant change to gameplay could prompt similar anger in a large portion of the playerbase who like CoH as it is now.

Since i've yet to see any convincing evidence of CoH2 or CoH2.0 being in the works i don't think anything of the sort is "Coming Soon" anyway.

Only if the script calls for it. Sure, the Hulk can jump insane distances, but even assuming he can jump interplanetary or interstellar distances (and the concept of being able to achieve some multiple of light speed simply by pushing off an object is brain hurting) good luck aiming your jump at a target you can't even see while compensating for gravitational forces and orbital vectors. Of course if the story calls for it Hulk can probably jump through time and dimensions by his sheer hulkitude. By writer's fiat it's also guaranteed that any object Hulk encounters after having been hurled through space will have the means for returning to Earth somewhere nearby.

Nope. i was posting that on my phone at work during lunch. i have (had) absolutely no problems with the downtime. However, i was admittedly having a bit of fun with the ranter i was replying to in my post. While my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek i will admit that's not readily apparent if you've never read any of my posts in the past and/or were already feeling defensive about the inevitable whiners babbling as if there hadn't been repeated notices of what was going to happen.

I have done some database work and this seems like along time for a simple program. I have always supported the devs, but this time I call bullcrap!

True, someone may forget to use a grenade if they have one when everybody keeps theirs, but letting Marauder be enraged 50% of the time is much better than 100% of the time, I think. (Of course, on a Master run you want to make sure none of the grenades are used, so however you want to handle it is fine.)

Yeah, i agree that piling all the grenades on one person isn't necessarily the best plan, but i volunteered when the leader said they wanted someone to take care of the grenades. Luckily i very rarely disconnect.
  11. i did a Lambda run where the other members of the league were asked to give me any pacification grenades and were told to use their molecular acids on the portals. i used my two acids and moved 4 of the grenades to open tray slots. A couple people aggroed Marauder while we asking anyone who still had acids to take down the remaining four portals. We ended up fighting Mr. "On the ground again?" with four portals open. When all four grenades were used i moved more to the tray. (Yeah, i know i can use them with a command, but i was also keeping track of how many i had left.) So during the fight i was looking at my temp powers list periodically.

Marauder finally falls and i open my powers window to see how many grenades were left. To my surprise i see that i had apparently been given two more acids at some point during the later part of the fight. *facepalm*

Apparently "Give $playername any Pacification Grenades you have before we fight Marauder." translates as "Wait until midway through the AV fight and then give $playername any Molecular Acids you have."

i is your mummy! Now put on a sweater before you go outside so you don't catch a chill.
Also, would it kill you to occasionally call and tell your mum how you're doing?
i spend all day slaving over a hot sarcophagus and this is the thanks i get?

*pauses and listens to a voice from somewhere out of sight*

Oh, wait, wrong sort of mummy? Ah, i see... Okay then.

  13. i'm thinking of remaking my steampowered armor Scrapper, Retrofuturist. If i do that i'd love to get him into the SG. (Not that i'm going to change his origin much since it involves a WWI era powersuit prototype built by his great grandfather that's been refurbished after his father died in it while fighting the first Rikti invasion. But i am thinking of going with a Def/Corr/Dom/Cont instead of a Scrapper.)
  14. Just a couple minutes ago in a mission:
[NPC] Vortex Assault: This is probably another security glitch.
[NPC] Vortex Fire: That's no security glitch! That's general incompetence!
    ...
    [NPC] Captive: Someone found us!
[NPC] Vortex Fire: It's general incompetence! Sound the alarm!

    And on my Stalker:
[NPC] Syrus: No matter! None of their filthy minions can ssstand againssst uss!
[NPC] Viper Fang: But I heard there was someone sspecial. One they call my parole officer.
[NPC] Syrus: Hah! Let them come!

If you want to find the best company to work at, do you just pick the one that's the biggest?
Not even necessarily the biggest company, just the company that has the largest total assets. Hell, it could be a company that acquires other companies and liquidates them for profit. A company that hires new employees to work in their new acquisitions and then cuts them loose when whatever is left of the acquisition is sold off.

Edit: Not that i know of any SGs that pretty much do that, down to requiring inf contributions from members of the satellite SGs to help boost the main SG's prestige total. Nope, such a thing could not possibly happen in this game.
  16. It's been a few days since this thread had any posts. Does anyone have a list of which procs, if any, do not currently work properly?

For example, i've heard that the Absolute Amazement proc currently does nothing in PvE, but i've never used one myself.

On a related note a guy i used to work with had told me he used to know a guy who actually was named Richard Head.
  20. i have "general incompetence" on several servers mostly for NPC dialogue amusement. His battle cry is "I know what I'm doing!"

Ghost town servers are good if you are a hardcore soloist. The performance of the zones will be much better on the ghost town servers, due to the low population.
Champion generally isn't in the top four and i have no problems finding teams when i look for them. Right now i've been playing mostly under 40 alts, and most of the chatter is players doing iTrials, but ghost town isn't even close. i suppose it doesn't count since i use global channels and the search tool when i'm in the mood to team instead of standing around a tram station waiting for someone to send me a tell.
