  1. Very nice. Now i somewhat regret deleting Amoebic Dysentery, my Water/Poison Corruptor that i was going to level entirely in sewers of one sort or another. Although his powers looked more than a little gross, so perhaps it's for the best.

The problem you're experiencing is typical of packet loss/network latency issues. Sometimes /synch helps to correct it, but it really depends on where the problem is occurring. If you have a home network set up the first thing i'd suggest trying is cycling all your network equipment. Modem, router, etcetera, as applicable. If that doesn't correct the issue it gets a bit more complicated, because it could be any number of the networks between you and the game servers. There's a couple techniques that can possibly trace and/or correct the issue, but it depends on what sort of computer and OS you're running.

i'm not going to get more specific since networking isn't a focus if mine and i'd rather not give bad advice. (Or advice that is completely irrelevant to your setup, which is more likely to be confusing than useful.) i would suggest asking in ALL ACCESS: Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs.

    Seeing the trend here?

Controller won't be an option on a freebie acct since trollers are restricted.
Most /Fire brutes can do decent on just SOs especially with red/purple insps.
Ack! i forgot that Freebies and lower tier Premiums can't access Controllers.
My bad. So go with the list Toast has. (Yah, there's a bit of a trend there. )
  5. Fire/Kin controllers are a classic choice, especially if the account you're using to PL is a freebie and has no access to IOs. Still, it's hard to go wrong with a Brute, especially with some IOs slotted.

SG membership/bases is still useless to Fremium/Premium players because they still need a VIP to pay rent because all the important base features incur a monthly rental fee per item.

And if a Prem or Freem can't pay rent not only does the power go out (so they won't be able to use teleporters or med bays), but they eventually can't enter the base at all.

No the devs set let te free players in the bases so they could see just what they are missing with the account restrictions at just the right spot to either encourage subscription or force free playrs to socialize with VIP's and use bases as group content like the devs intended.
SG memberships are hardly useless to Free and Premium players unless they're the only ones in it. The only restriction is the ability to interact with the SG registrar, which is only important when creating the SG or if the base is large enough to require rent. Having any VIP members at all basically removes the rent payment issue.

Last week i helped a returning Premium set up their own solo SG. He said he was planning to return to full VIP soon, but i told him that if he needed help paying the rent in the future to just contact me. Once the SG was created and the base started he was otherwise good to go.

    New Powerset

The ALL ACCESS: Suggestions and Ideas subforum, two sections below this one, is really the more appropriate place for this.

Also, i think you probably need to get a better understanding of how powersets are designed and refine your ideas a little more as your proposal reads less like a coherent powerset and more as a random assortment of vaguely ghost-themed powers that you'd like to have.

Or maybe trying to fit a screwdriver through the eye of a needle. They're just very different things altogether.

Anime is about localized stories that take place within their own little spheres; superheroes on the other hand can have their own separate headlining titles, but the story of Ant-Man can be directly influenced by the Fantastic Four. It's about a universe based heavily off of our own where these caped crusaders (and their allies) can alter the world around them (theoretically for the better) by utilizing the fantastical abilities of those that co-exist in that world. You won't find One Piece characters popping up in Dragon Ball Z, and you won't find Bleach characters popping up in Naruto. Yes, I get that's because they're owned by different people, but my point is that continuity does not exist outside of the anime. With superheroes, continuity is written so that there is story that extends beyond the pages of any one comic book. With superheroes, it's "heroes are everywhere, all around in the world we live in", and with anime, it's "heroes exist in this make-believe world that exists outside of (or parallel to) our own".

Both are decent storytelling mediums, but they are hardly the same.
Well, there are anime series that are superheroic in much the same way as western animated series, and the same principle applies to manga and superhero comics. It's also a good point that anime is too broad of a genre to truly be equivalent to superheroic comics, but the same applies to traditional Western animation. Most Western cartoons are not about superheroes at all. That said, there are many stylistic elements of superheroic/action anime that integrate well with a more Western superpowered setting.

And "heroes are everywhere, all around in the world we live in" is no more true than claiming the same of anime. In fact many more anime series are more realistic and are set in a world much closer to our own.

The larger difference is that superhero comics are based on recycling the same characters ad infinitum with no lasting development or progress, which eventually leads to universes full of characters who have been repeating many of the same exploits for decades and are no older or wiser now than when they started.

Anime series tend to have characters that grow, change, and are eventually superceded by a new generation on the occasions that the story doesn't simply come to a conclusion. They generally have ongoing stories with fairly clearly defined beginnings and endings rather than the superheroic tradition of little to no long term continuity.

There are also several cases of anime characters from many different series sharing a common world/setting. The many Ultra series come to mind, as does the Nasuverse, and the various Tenchi series. CLAMP also qualifies somewhat.

Umm, i guess he might be a nice guy if you assume many of his public statements were just playing for attention, and he's secretly actually quite reliable, clever, and witty. i suppose it doesn't really matter since i have never met him and am unlikely to in any event.

His art i have seen and it's rather terrible. In more than a decade he's improved much less than many beginning artists have in six months. The only thing that really makes some of his recent art more palatable is hiring skilled colorists who proceed to paint over most of his drawing. Even then it's pretty bad. On the plus side his art is probably a thousand times better than his writing.

I wish I knew more about the first one. I only have sketchy fragments that I'm not really supposed to know in the first place. Because I have a feeling Cryptic learned or believed they learned a design lesson working on MUO that involves power system complexity, and that translated into making CO's power system much, much simpler.

Then they added crafting on top. But I think the evolutionary process from City of Heroes to MUO to CO would be an interesting one to study, because its a rather unique situation where the same company with overlapping design people created essentially the same MMO three times in a very short span of time, but *not* as part of a connected series (meaning, it was the same game in broad strokes, but conversely they were not allowed to reuse specific content or implementation - they had to redo the same basic MMO concept from scratch three times, which means they had to completely rethink the problem three times).
The end result from an outsider's perspective seems almost like they threw out the lessons learned from working on the previous versions before making the third.

Exactly. i'm constantly making new characters. Sometimes they're on new servers because some friends are playing on that server and i decide to join them. Most often it's because i have a new combo/concept i want to play and i don't want to delete existing characters. i have 40+ slots unlocked on one server, 36+ on another, and 16+ on at least two others. i haven't done the math, but i do have some niggling doubts that i could access over 108 characters if i dropped to Premium, not counting the new alts i make every time a new set is released.

Which the current system seems to be doing a bang-up job of.
Unpossible. i've been subscribed since May of 2004, and after Freedom went live i... stayed subscribed and was very pleased to see how much more i'm getting now.

Now if anyone else who's been playing CoH to the point of tier 9 feels that the additional perks of being a VIP are no longer worth it they are welcome to drop down to Premium and contimue playing. Personally i'd rather not because i consider the additional perks worth it and i enjoy the game enough to want to support it as much as is practical. But if that's how someone feels then they should do whatever makes them happier/less disgruntled. Expecting Paragon Studios to cater to all your specific demands or even just give you automatic everything because you're a VIP is silly and somewhat unrealistic.

Def no to new anime pieces. I agreed with a thread a while back that said we needed to bring some more golden age style hero pieces. I think those type of costumes should be higher priority.
Someone couldn't be bothered to read the thread. i mean if that's your opinion, that's your opinion, but it's not borne out by the evidence. It could be my opinion that Intelligent Falling is a more accurate description than gravity, but that doesn't mean the evidence supports it.

The extended parade of missing /quote tags is giving me a headache.

i don't understand how those who think a subscription should unlock access to everything in the game expect that to work. That's not how it was the seven years prior to Freedom launching, and i don't understand how that would work in any sort of plausible funding scenario. The Devs have added more content/powersets/costumes/story/systems in the past year than any year prior. That costs money. Most of the significant content and powerset additions before Freedom required buying an expansion for access when they were released and only happened every couple of years or so, and required being a subscriber/VIP to play the game at all.

In what plausible scenario could PS afford to continue producing new content at a far greater pace than previously while charging less for it than ever before? How would you even convince those who control the funding of the game that it's a good idea?

Exactly. The only "new mechanic" is that the proc's percentage chance to trigger is modified by the power's recharge slotting instead of being a set chance. For powers with long recharge times proc activation chance will frequently be over 90%. On average most procs will trigger more often after the change goes live. So, not actually a new mechanic at all.

To Andy, Jessie, Kevin, Matt, John, Ryan, Sean, Tim.. and the many others I bugged about for lore questions when writing this you have my deepest and truest thanks.

To my fellow players, it is my most sincere wish that you found this story a fun bit change from the recent dark and sinister turns the lore has taken of late. If this is officially canon, I do not know, but in a way I hope it is, and not just for the sake of being a player influencing the game. I wrote this to show the lighter side of the experience that is City of Heroes: Freedom. We accept the wars, the struggles the battles but we also accept that Viridian loves his soap operas, that we have (like,) Becky the Tarantula Mistress, that we have a hero whom we love because of the word 'hoorb', and a heroine who we groan due to the fact that the blue haired pigtailed wonder from Faultline has only the power to be kidnapped.

I haven't seen many negative comments, and for something as goofy as my story was, shows how much, I believe, that we as a community can take a step back and enjoy the game for what it is, harmless fun.

So for those who enjoyed my story, I thank you. For those who didn't, and felt it was a slap against the game, again, I thank you for at least reading it and sharing your honest feedback.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You are all the best, and I did it for you!

Thank you for writing it. i found the whole thing enjoyable, and the ending really was rather brilliant in my opinion.

Eh, most are just saying that their opinion is not the same as your opinion. There may be a few saying that your opinion is actually wrong, but there's people like that in virtually every thread ever.

For what it's worth i think you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, but with the exception of using the Doofus and Club hairstyles i think the revamp is pretty well done. So we have different opinions of the revamp. You don't like it, and i think it's an overall improvement with a few caveats. Works for me.

  23. Would have to actually slot the proc and experiment, but i imagine you'd still get some knockback when using stacked Trip Mines since each pseudopet would proc it's own chance to KD on a target and simultaneous detonation of mines can stack the KD to KB levels.

This is the way of it for me. While i would have spent just as much if they had maintained the subscription-only model while releasing additional paid content, i have encountered a fair number who wouldn't be playing today if that were still the case, but who do spend money on items in the market.

Everything i've seen from the Dev team in terms of both game content and actual statements certainly supports the premise that the hybrid model is working for CoH.

Also, if they do fly into it and get hit with the -fly, the good news is they drop out of the damage of the sphere.

Hover is not being buffed in I24. However, all movement bonuses in IO Sets are becoming Universal Movement buffs and are being made 50% stronger.

Also, Steam Jump and the Jump Pack from Good v. Evil will turn Hover into capped flyspeed for most of the time.

This is my usual approach when using characters with Hover. Most of the time i hover just above the ground anyway. Even my non-hovering characters have few issues with airborne patches as long as they're not very close to the ground. Unless i'm very low on hp the damage from briefly passing through an aerial patch is no worse than getting shot with a minion's crossbow. Yes there's a slight chance it might drop me, but then there's always the chance of taking a crossbow bolt to the kn-err-chest as well.
