Quote:i downgrade most of my uncommons into common components. Much more useful. The sad part is that the ratios should be ...
10% Very Rares
20% Rares
30% Uncommons
40% Commons
This would explain why every character I've run trials with always winds up FLOODED with piles and piles (and piles!) of Uncommons that I'm never going to need or use ... while I must go begging for Commons to finish out my Tier 1/2/3 slots with (and am pretty much ALWAYS forced into converting Threads for). -
Quote:Hmmm, very true. Without putting together recurring teams for the purpose of running each trial the same way and then recording stats for all teammates... yeah, no.Again, that depends on the number of defeats. A Keyes trial where people kill everything in the bunkers to get to the glowies will have less drop chances for threads than a Keyes where an illusion troller (that is, me) sneaks through the back door and gets all the temps without killing anything. Also, threads are divided among the entire league; maybe I got 2 threads but someone else on the league got 7, in the same trial. Random drops + Variable number of enemy defeats = No good data.
Thank you very much for collecting and analyzing the drop data. That's quite interesting in itself. -
Quote:The average inf and iXP per minute would also be interesting; especially since i suspect that Keyes will also show a much lower rate of iXP and inf gain. The run-time dichotomy is a big thing imo.
Such that I think that perhaps it needs to have it's reward readdressed, such as a better reward rate [ie, more likely to get Rare/V.rare whatever] or an increased number of awards [it takes twice as long, give it double awards].
(Unfortunately iXP is very badly borked right now, so that will have to wait. i have Brute who has run at least nine trials in the last two weeks and has yet to unlock a single power. i already had slotted the Alpha before i started running the trials.)
Edit: Judgement is at 38% and Interface is at 40%. Without burning a lot of threads and Astral merits it will take another couple of weeks to unlock just those two. OTOH i will have components piled to my neck for making the powers by the time i do unlock them, so that's a plus i guess. -
If so then he deserves strong praise for staying in character so consistently and for such a long time. Even more so since he's done it in such a wide range of subject matter. He's like the exact opposite of a polymath. He can be bafflingly wrong and misinformed while utterly convinced of his superior expertise in a mind-bogglingly diverse array of topics.

Quote:Pretty much this.Yes it would.
And it wouldn't affect the code at all. It would be two numeric values altered. Trust me.
In fact one of the announced features of the PvP revamp was the ability to easily adjust the values to better tweak balance. The fact that said feature has basically been ignored is beside the point. -

Traps has a tier 9? *huh* i thought we just got a free power choice at level 32.
(Seriously though my Traps users have never found Time Bomb a fit with their play style. At all. Still, there's probably a couple dozen people, who rarely team, to whom Time Bomb is an essential part of their repertoire.) -
Espresso and chocolate with steamed milk and a dusting of nutmeg. No whipped cream. Yum!
Also action RP, absurdist RP, light RP, and the occasional immersive RP.

Pope Manipulation?
That sounds like a set that wouldn't be much use outside of the Vatican.
Well, that and the Discordians. Any Discordian who feels like it can declare themselves a pope. -
Quote:Any problem caused by too much ordnance can be solved with even more ordnance?I am reminded of a line from an article about the board game 'Advanced Squad Leader', where it talked about an interview with a German officer who'd served in Africa, Russia, and France after D-Day, and was asked what he thought about the tactics of the different armies. He said that the Russians were very inflexible, but were willing to throw large numbers of men into carrying through an objective. The British were much more flexible, but tended to respond in the same way to different situations. And the Americans... He said that he wasn't able to form a good opinion of the American tactics and leadership, because it was so hard to see with all the explosions....
Power effects can be overwhelming at times on large teams. Even more when many environments make it nigh impossible to zoom the camera out a bit. Many of the newer maps do improve on the latter, but the blue caves and Council caves remain prime examples of environments that easily become impossible to see in when on large teams. Thankfully we have tab targeting and pretty power buttons to look at in those instances because i can see sod all of what's actually happening then. -
It's a hybrid that is both and neither. It has elements of a palindrome in that the collected letters in each of the words of the sentence are mirrored even though the order of the letters in each word is different.
On the other hand "This hits ****." is a sentence composed from anagrams of a single word. -

Quote:Except that the Incarnate system is still an alternate system of advancement that really isn't required except for running Incarnate content. i'm already on record as considering the solo route to Incarnate power as being too slow. The Devs have already stated that they are looking into solo options for Incarnates, so i expect that there will eventually be paths for players who want to advance at a reasonable pace in the system without playing multi-team trials. And there is the problem.
You may not agree that "glacial pace" is not progress since it still goes forward, but the thing that makes it non-viable is the "glacial" bit.
My disagreement was with the assertions that by adding the system at all the Devs had somehow removed the ability for solo players to advance their characters. The same options exist as before although they obviously have little appeal for characters that are already IOd out. i suppose the issue is knowing that there's ways to make your character much more powerful when it requires doing things you find unpleasant or impossible to do. Unfortunately there's not much to be done about that at the moment except do other content.
Also this. -
Quote:You're having a Charlie Sheen sort of day, aren't you?Its enough to make you throw your hands into the air in exasperation!! They took away the Victorian Steampunk female face [as far as Im concerned, its been taken away] AND!! AND, to sweeten the deal, they BROKE the corset 'chest-detail' into clipping so badly that anyone who cared how their character looked had to take that chest-detail off!
WINNING!!!!
In fact I think that's what happened: I took my Carnie to the tailor to get that broken corset chest-detail off of her because its ruined now, and she came out with her makeup wiped, too. GOOD GOING GUYS.
Presumably with less psychosis, and hopefully far less cocaine.
i sympathize over your losing the face you liked even if i haven't used them yet myself. -
Well, some of them just avoid the head cutting off game and find a different one that involves less decapitation. Although, as i understand it, those eligible to play the decapitation game were forced into a sudden death elimination tournament back in the 80s, so it's probably hard to find many players to comment on that game now.

Quote:My point was that Fritzy can continue doing those missions, TFs, etcetera. The Devs did not stop adding those when they added the Incarnate system, and the only things that actually require making use of the Incarnate system are the Incarnate TFs. Go run the new content and continue earning merits, badges and drops. You can even progress in the Incarnate system while doing so, albeit at glacial pace.I wouldn't say "alternate". I'd rather say "next". When you're reached the end of the first (levels) you start on the second (incarnates).
And I can't speak for Fritzy, but I have a feeling that you're talking two different kinds of methods. You speak of ordinary XP vs IXP and Components; I think Fritzy is speaking doing missions, task forces, whatever vs grinding raids.
Quote:The OP is complaining about people complaining....*looks around, then bashes face into desk repeatedly*
They were commenting on forum posters who have basically been posting nothing but vitriol for years about how every new feature or issue is ruining the game and that if X goes live they'll unsubscribe. The OP is asking why they stay around to repeat their performance almost every single time something new is announced. It might be that they actually like some things, but they never make any posts acknowledging anything about the game they like. When they do post it's generally venomous rants about how terrible everything is without any suggestions to improve it or examples of things that are good, just how everything is ruined forever.
i've certainly seen a few posters like that. Ones who when i looked at their posting history out of curiosity and bemusement turned out to actually post nothing about the game itself but that sort of hatred and contempt for everything about the game. It's really rather impressive in a way.
People who disagree with some decisions and complain about things they don't like, but acknowledge the things about the game they do like are not what the OP was talking about. -
i noticed it a long time ago, but then i like the treespec. i also like anagrams.
For example, this is my hybrid of anagram and palindrome phrase: Elvis' vile evil lives! -
As you point out depression doesn't have any direct effect on someone's ability to use spelling and grammar. In fact some of those who suffer from depression have been brilliant, even world famous, writers. i suspect that part of GF's post was just tossed in as a "you have to be nice to me because i have a disorder and it's a rule that you have to be nice to people with disabilities." And, no, you do not. You *should* be nice to people who aren't rude jerks, but disabilities don't directly factor into that, at least in my opinion. (i will cut someone some slack if they have something along the lines of Asperger's or autism, but not if it's obvious they're being intentionally rude.) GreenFIame generally doesn't give me the impression of trying to be rude even if their posts are occasionally painfully difficult to read.
Eh, anyway, as has been pointed out, Hall of Fame is based on player votes and since the GMs/Mods seem to have not been policing AE for quite some time and the Devs haven't made much headway in fixing AE issues, it's not a complete surprise that some farms have made into the Hall of Fame since the most common use of AE has become farming. Farm arcs rarely have to deal with the various problems with the censor or other issues since they generally rely on simple setups and little to no text. i remember seeing text in most farm missions where the authors asked people not to rate them to avoid drawing GM attention, but that was at least a year ago. The lack of enforcement obviously has changed that. If enough people who actually enjoy AE for the stories rate farms low enough they'll eventually lose Hall of Fame status. In the meantime it is what it is: amusing and rather telling. -
Nice! i wish was able to attend the event, but i was at a con most of the weekend. Glad to hear there was a good turnout.

Quote:Uhm, how so?The Incarnate System stops my preferred mode of advancement dead in its tracks - and I don't like that and don't think it's a fair way to treat a paying customer.
The Incarnate system is an alternate system of advancement where you unlock additional abilities by earning Incarnate XP and Components. It has no effect whatsoever on your preferred method of advancement. Like all the other things you don't like about CoH you can safely ignore it and continue playing whatever else you prefer. Nothing at all was removed to make room for the Incarnate system. You can still run TFs and Trials to earn merits and get recipe drops, or even run the STF and LRSF for SHOs, so all your options are still there.
If you're referring to some sort of raising of the normal level cap the Devs have repeatedly stated over the years that that will not ever happen for design reasons and that any system of progressing a character at level 50 would involve other methods. Initially that was HOs, then the invention system was added, and now the incarnate system. -

i think it would be fun if the spawning mechanics for the Security Team could be coded to spawn one Warwalker for every four players in the trial.

Quote:Maybe "challenge" is a euphemism for "slightly more durable debuff toggle anchor".I've wondered the same, it would be really cool if this was an elite team of 3 or more EBs that would actually pose a challenge.
