  1. i've been to RV twice with my FF/Rad defender. Each time i've had a low virtual memory warning pop up followed by a client crash within 5 seconds. This has happened after about 10-15 minutes in RV.

    The_Chad said regarding Supremacy's radius: [ QUOTE ]
    I believe it's 30 meters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

i'm going to guess you mean yards, since the US version of CoX does not use the metric system at all. That sounds a bit excessive to me either way. From what i've seen Supremacy would appear to be 20 yards at most, but then i've only played masterminds up to the low 20's. Does Supremacy radius scale up with level at all?

i'll log on one of my low level masterminds later and do some tests of Supremacy's range myself.

I think the point was that it's much easier now to take down all the Henchman, leaving the MM WITHOUT Bodyguard to take the full damage from the next attack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Anyone who could do that could have one or two shotted the MM without the bodyguard feature anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So the net result of this change is...?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps the change is that in situations where you're not hit with an absurd amount of overkill you can survive where you wouldn't have without Bodyguard? i wasn't aware that the Devs were expected to add a "survive any and all alpha strikes" ability to masterminds. This change seems like it has it has the potential to improve MM survival in PvE and PvP situations. Yes, there are ways to counter or nullify it, but the same is true with any AT. i suggest waiting until it goes to test and testing how effective it can be and then giving assessments and suggestions regarding the power.

Not that there's any harm in commenting on what we know now, but at this point Bodyguard sure as hell sounds like it will do more for my MM's than Vigilance does for my defenders or Desperation (oops, was renamed Defiance) does for my blasters.

My approach, on the rare occasion i stop by Fight Club, to interference with Fight Club is very simple: If they're on my side i will do nothing to help them if a dozen people swat them down. i might offer some critiques of the techniques used, but that's about it. If they're on the opposite side i will do everything i can to amuse myself. i have a pretty active imagination.

But i think i'll figure it out if/when the time comes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, quick real-world example that preemptive retaliation is an acceptable policy: The Iraq War. It was even presented as such and accepted by the majority of US citizens as valid. (After all, they reelected the man who proposed and implemented the policy.) City of Heroes is set in the US. Therefore it is a valid doctrine/tactic if you strongly suspect that the other party at some point in the future may attack you or aid/encourage others in attacking you.

  8. Remember the part of Alice in Wonderland where Alice had to run as fast as possible just to stand still?

Something to point out since it has bearing on costs of base equipment: Base rent increases over time and is calculated from the SG's total earned prestige over the life of the SG, so that eventually everyone in the SG will have to be constantly earning prestige to stand still in terms of base features. There will come a point where base rent is>=total SG income for the rent period unless you disband the SG and start over. Presumably the Devs will do something to address this by the time it becomes an issue for enough players, but i haven't heard anything official yet. So new items are great, but what happens when you have to start selling off parts of the base in order to keep the remainder functional or to add new equipment?

  11. Y'know, i can think of one thematically apropriate Trick Arrow buffing power...
Antidote Arrow. An ally-targetted AoE that mitigates status effects much like Stimulant or Clear Mind.

Anyway, i agree that it seems odd that so far the only buff/fix to TA so far would help controllers more than defenders. However, it makes sense since it's a matter of correcting an oversight when the power was changed, but i'm hoping that TA gets a few buffs in Issue 7 that improve its utility for defenders even more than for controllers.

    *plonk*

    [/ QUOTE ]

Troll? I was using marginal as in "by some margin". So by saying "not marginal", I meant "not by some margin", or in other words "by no margin". So I was actually saying you were being honest.

Lol. Ok maybe in poor taste but it was meant in jest. And here I thought I was being somewhat witty with my double entendre. Too late at night for humour I guess.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I parsed it correctly, then.

However, one could reasonably take it to mean "your argument is more than marginally dishonest" although that may not be strictly correct, grammatically.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It may not be strictly correct, but considering human nature i would've expected it be an ironic statement and consequently have the less strictly correct meaning. (Ironic in the literary sense, not the popular sense.) It seems to me that Centerfire's reaction would only tend to confirm that interpretation, despite how the poster may have intended it. This is really rather amusing.

    Moving right along...

i think that part of the issue with the overlap between controllers, defenders and blasters best illustrated by Castle's statement that a defender's weaker control in certain powers from their primary when compared to a controller is balanced by their greater damage. This is patently absurd since the damage is so miniscule compared to other attacks and the control aspect of the power itself. i've used Force Bolt to play Hellion golf with my FF defender because i know i can hit a -30 mob more than 6 times without "arresting" it. Yet i can use Force Bolt to reduce a mob's ability to retaliate to almost nothing when fighting +4's with both my controller and defender. This means that Force Bolt has at least as much utility for my Gravity/FF controller as my FF/Rad defender, if not more.

Similarly, the secondary effect of most defender blasts does not synergize well with defender primaries, and in most cases where it does is such a minor effect that defender's increased secondary effect is nowhere near enough to compensate for the drastically lower damage. Yet most controller secondaries work very well at complementing and increasing the DPS/efficiency of the controller's primary.

While i can't claim to have done a DPS comparison, when playing it certainly feels like controllers are far closer to a blaster's DPS than defenders in most cases, even if this is not actually true. Honestly, i think defenders could receive a lower damage penalty to their secondary and still not outdamage a blaster who also uses both their sets to complement each other.

Even with 75% blaster damage i don't think that an Empathy/Electrical defender would outdamage an Electrical/Devices blaster, or a Radiation/Energy defender outdamage a Fire/Energy blaster.
  13. Okay, so you're saying that to balance the lower benefit from the power the penalties should be increased? You would appear to be so dazzled by your own "cleverness" that all pretense of intelligent thought has been obliterated.

For me all future posts by this posterior headgarment called anarchicgorilla shall read ***You are ignoring this luser***. It will increase the level of discourse for any forum he posts in as far as i'm concerned.

Oh, sorry, i meant to say that his blinding idiocy has inspired me to put him on ignore. The rest of you please continue, you're raising some good points and useful insights.

Which is how MMOs work -- the mobs gain power faster than the players. The fac that this is a superhero game does not trump that principle.

"Free will is irrelevant. Individuality is irrelevant. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated."

  15. [ QUOTE ]
hey I just realized something...with buffing defence they nerfed accuracy!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, reading comprehension time. i suggest going to the Dev Digest and reading all the posts there on the defense change that's coming. The Devs are not buffing defense. The defense values, other than SR getting a decrease in one power, are not changing. The change is in how defense scales, or more accurately, how the increase in accuracy that higher level mobs get is applied. Instead of being applied as a bonus to base to-hit, the increase in accuracy from being of higher level will function as a standard buff. In other words, the level boost is applied after defense is subtracted from the base to-hit. All this change does is make it so that defense scales against higher level enemies in PvE pretty much the same way resistance does.

For Grod's sake please go read the Dev Digest, it's not complicated.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Will this change go the other way, too, with Elite Bosses like Hercules and Patient Zero becoming AVs if faced with a large enough team?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be pretty good if the AV xp boost is enough to make the extra time and risk worth it. Actually, i wouldn't mind even if the xp was the same, but i realize that many others would.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
First...I confirm that we're working on right now (as in pohsyb in the next room) to add CoV costume parts into CoH if you own both games....

Then we repeal the hated stealth nerf. The reason why: many well reasoned posts. It's that simple. You guys pointed out the problems.

AND now...we're changing the way Archvillains spawn. A ton of forum goers disliked adding so many AV's into missions a while back...so we've come up with a solution. If the team size and mission difficulty are ABOVE a certain level, an Archvillain spawns. Below that, players will face only an Elite Boss. If the mission is set on the first two levels of difficulty, it takes 4 heroes or more to spawn an Arch Villain. On the third level, 3 heroes or more. On the fourth level, 2 heroes. On the highest (Invincible), a solo hero will spawn an AV. Note this works in BOTH City of Heroes and Villains.

In order to incentivize larger teams, Positron is going to add a bonus to AV rewards!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow. This was somewhat... unexpected, but in a good way, a very good way.

The Elite Boss/AV change was the most unexpected to me considering that it wasn't that long ago that many of the CoV Elite Bosses were boosted to AV status. Pip pip hurrah! More xp for AV's will not be refused either. From an xp gaining standpoint AV's have always been so miserably low on xp given for the time it takes to defeat them (even at great risk) that fighting blue and green mobs is a more effective use of time.

i have some issues with risk of defeat in combat being the single metric by which xp rewards should be determined, but if that's the vision, i guess that's the vision. After all, it's not like there are any RPG's, PnP or computer, that reward players with xp for achieving mission goals by noncombat methods (like thought, strategy or skill), but wouldn't it be cool if there were? /em whistlesinnocently

Now if the promised removal of the toggle drop attack (a mag 100 stun is guaranteed toggle dropper, more so than the PvP toggle droppers) from 40+ Nullifiers goes through i'll be fairly pleased for a while. It's not fun grabbing aggro to bail out a squishier teammate and going from fine to dead in less than 3 seconds because your damage mitigation is entirely through toggle defenses. (Like my DA brute.)

    My prediction on this.

    Sell Salvage, gain prestige.

Works like selling Enhancements to gain Influence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

i think this makes a certain amount of sense, at least as much sense as selling enhancements. Salvage drops a lot less frequently than enhancements or the inf you get, so i don't see it as being that unbalancing. (Depending on the selling ratio.) AND it would give me something to do with all those magic salvage bits i've been getting that are useless in our tech-based base.

    Accuracy

This is purely anecdotal since i haven't been running Herostats or any other logger, but i noticed something quite odd yesterday while playing my level 25 DM/DA Brute.

I was on a team that was attempting the respec trial we were fighting lvl 29 enemies (+4). i would estimate that with most attacks slotted with one white Acc SO and a yellow or green Acc DO that i was hitting 60-75% of the time against the CoT and Longbow.

Later on i did a few missions with another pickup group fighting level 27 CoT (+2). During that mission my accuracy seemed to be roughly 25-30% in that i missed at least 2-3 times for every hit, occasionally seeing chains of 5-6 misses in a row and very few instances of multiple consecutive hits. The odd thing is that during the respec trial (vs. +4 CoT) Shadow Maul would hit at least 60% of the time i used it and during the Newspaper missions (vs. +2 CoT) it hit at most 20% of the time when i used it.

i was almost wondering if the respec mission was using Giant Monster code because i was hitting far more often against +4 enemies than i thought i should. Then i went into the other missions against +2 enemies and missed more than i thought was reasonable.

i'm not saying that base accuracy has been changed, but ever since Issue 6 it has seemed to me that the scaling system has some sort of bug. Now i don't mind being able to consistently hit +4 enemies, but it seems a bit off that i could to hit them more than when i was fighting +2 enemies.

Edit: i just thought of the fact that at least part of the time during the respec i was fighting near a MM who was running Leadership->Tactics, although there were a number of times he was elsewhere/defeated and i didn't notice a drop in accuracy. Still, if the to-hit buffs of leadership mitigate enemy scaling that effectively i know what my fourth pool choice will be when i gain my next power even if the MM base is much higher. (Hell, i can swap in an extra end reducer for one of my Acc in each attack power to offset the end cost of the toggle.)
  21. Blah, if anyone on the CoV side of the fence has teamed with Shroud of Night they've teamed with my current CoV main.
  22. i've seen something like this in PO as well, though i've been lucky in only aggroing mobs that were low enough level for me to defeat them. It's rather funny to be talking to someone at the door and see a mob running straight towards you, then realize it looks an awful lot like a mob you'd done a drive-by on nearly halfway across the map. i have a terrible habit of returning fire on mobs that shoot at me as i run down the street and not sticking around to finish them off. "You bust a cap on me, i bust a cap on you!"

What's even funnier is that i had a similar incident occur in CoH about a year ago. i had just completed Positron's TF with my scrapper and a very stubborn blaster. (The rest of the team had quit hours ago, yay for the classic Posi TF!) We're standing by the final mission door in Perez Park mutually congratulating each other for our tenacity in completing the TF, when i see about 8 Nemesis jogging along the street. i think, "Cool, i haven't seen them much before." They then proceed to run up the stairs to me, smash me into the ground in one volley (they were +10 to me) and then jog back the way they came while my teammate just stood there and stared. We both agreed that was odd, i think i /bugged it, and then we both said goodbye and logged off since it was about 4 in the morning at that point.

Taking your suggestions into account, I've added Defense to the Power Pools to EVERY single damage type EXCEPT Psi. In other words, the Pools are no longer limited to Smashing and Lethal.

Animated wings are never coming due to difficulty with animating them or something like that. The winged AT is somewhere on the horizon though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To clarify, animated wings are not going to ever become a costume piece, but instead will be a feature of one particular Epic Archetype.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is something i still don't quite understand. Then again, it's because i look at the animations used for capes, as well as the animations that wiggle the Kheldian Nova's mandibles and i think that it could not possibly be that much more difficult to animate metallic or energy wings that fold/fan out when you run or fly as a cape option. I'm not demanding realistic feathered or membranous wings, i'm just stating that i'd settle for wings that have as much movement as some of the minor details in existing models. You could even recycle existing animations, like the mandibles.

Hmmm, why don't the CoT Demon's wings wave back and forth anyway? What is so different about the wings that they can't be animated even slightly? They seem to have no difficulty animating arms or legs for various beasties. Legs actually have to have more thought put into the animations since they have to relate to how fast the model is moving.
