Well yeah, but BI refuses to take darkest night on a dark defender (due to the aggro it draws), so skipping the AOE immbo and/or hotfeet and/or fulcrum shift seems about par for the course.

All of which are of course huge aggro magnets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    <whimper>

    No Darkest Night?

That's how a Dark Defender (with SuperSpeed) herds a room onto a corner Tar Patch. Fluffy jumps out yelling "who's on mah tar patch, byeeches!" adding his Darkest Night and tentacles. Now that the there's about 70% -ToHit on the crowd, the Defender appears around the corner, Fears them for another -25% ToHit and stacks Tar Patch for -60% Damage Resistance and whittles their hp ways with whatever AoE attacks they have cycling in the single target attacks for the bosses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, but with all that stuff going on, who even notices that I DON'T have DN....?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, if you'd actually read the post you'd have noticed that DN is what induced all the enemies to pile onto the Tar Patch with Fluffy, which is why there's all that stuff going on...

    Moving on...
  2. [ QUOTE ]
But DN...? Has always seemed as akin to "horrid suicide" as anything you'd ever want to see. I think the toggle nature of the beast is the real problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *cough*PEBKAC*cough*

Still, if you find a power difficult to use effectively it's a reasonable approach to not take it.

I have somewhat softened my stance on SB lately and usually keep my mouth shut about it when on an outdoor map, on a non-melee character. Melee people still hate it as much as they ever did.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which melee people are these? Most melee types i team with love SB. All my Scrappers, Brutes and Tankers find SB perfect for going from being killing machines to turbocharged killing machines.

Tabbing through enemies until i locate my first victim and then hitting "f" is how i usually start fights when on a Speed Boost rush. Love that +end recovery and recharge time reduction. i love SB on my melee alts, but won't complain either if i don't get it.

Okay, there are people who have difficulty controlling their characters who ask to not receive it, especially among newer, low level melee players, but most players i know find it easy enough to compensate for with a bit of practice.

Still, feel free to skip Speed Boost, especially if you're going for a solo farming build. Even if i end up teamed with a high level Kin who skipped or won't use SB i still do fine without it, i just do it a bit slower than with SB.

O2 Boost sucks, and is entirely skippable.

[/ QUOTE ]O2 Boost sucks as a heal. But it's quite good for stun/sleep protection (can you say Rikti?), as well as endurance drain protection. It's also one of the few grantable +Perception powers in the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. Only reason's mine slotted for heal is because of set bonuses. And the fact it can't really take any other sets but heals...

Totally a means to a different end, though. I only use it as a heal as a last resort.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Same for my Grav/Storm's O2 Boost. Slotted it primarily with endurance and recharge reduction IO's from the set i used.

I think it does more like dark melee has lower than base accuracy and misses so much its broken.

    [/ QUOTE ]
i've always liked that myth myself. That's what really surprises me: people still believe some of these myths even though they can now view the actual numbers for powers in game and even monitor character stats as they play.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dark Melee does have lower accuracy than many other melee sets: Broadsword, Katana, Ninja Blade, MA, Warmace and Battle Axe. Since those sets have higher accuracy, they make DM seem like it has lower accuracy thus giving origin to this "myth"

    [/ QUOTE ]

The "myth" was "lower than base accuracy". Yeah, DM doesn't have the accuracy bonus that other melee sets are given, but the same myth isn't frequently attributed to sets like Energy Melee, Ice Melee, Superstrength, Fiery Melee, Electrical Melee and the like who also lack an accuracy bonus.

I can't be wacky all the time. It's pretty tiring maintaining that level of weird consistently!

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Testify!

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, damping it down to that level or raising it up?

For me the difficulty is in damping it down. Not that it's immediately obvious since the linear nature of writing helps a great deal. Sometimes the linearity also adds to an impression of weirdness because it can be very difficult to reduce a concept that's more easily illustrated as a 3-dimensional web to a line.

As for under the influence and posting: Caffeine and related mild stimulants are frequently involved. Ethanol and related compounds are occasionally involved. Things traditionally snorted or inhaled (tobacco, marijuana, PCP, etcetera) are never involved. For everything else there's <redacted>.

    Graphical update = Power customization.

Mark your calenders so you can look back to this post when you see I am right.

    [/ QUOTE ]
or you can look back further, to the announcement thread where a bunch of other people (myself included) called power customization.

predicting the obvious isn't much to hang your hat on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was one of those bunches of people.

I was one of those bunches of people several times.

I am predicting it right and left.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.
To be honest i haven't predicted it every time, but i have always expressed a wish for it. i did predict a graphical update (including increased power customization) with great enthusiasm when i first saw the announcement for Going Rogue.

    My personal favorute power myths

    Empathy is a healing set

    Defenders are healers

    [/ QUOTE ]

Many just call them healers because it's easier and more accurate than calling them support. (Swear to gawd that is the actual argument i've seen used.)

Personally i prefer the term "support", even if it is somehow harder than typing "healer". i've also convinced myself that support is in general a more accurately descriptive term than healer. But what do i know?

Other myths: There are still people who think that the only thing Speed Boost does is make you run faster. Not nearly as many as there used to be, but they're still out there.

Not sure if this qualifies, but as the situation no longer exists its probably safe to state:

[Pre-I9 Hamidon] Entering the Hamidon goo will buff Hamidon's mez resistance.

I should mention that while many people thought this was true, some raid leaders knew it to be false but encouraged the belief anyway, for a variety of practical reasons.

[/ QUOTE ]Another that was frequently spouted by a Champion raid leader about the old Hamidon raid: teleporting to the hospital or your base when defeated triggers Mito splits. Actually, if i recall correctly, he used to claim anyone leaving the Hive could trigger it.

I wonder, Part_Troll, have you ever teamed with me? We're on the same server and both play PUGs a lot.

And I have a feeling this era of AE farm babies will produce plenty of material for your stories.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now i miss Psychoti even more. P_T has some good'uns, but Psychoti's quick wit always made his experiences with bad players truly hilarious.

Y'know, the funniest part is that i've also been encountering many mewbs who (incorrectly) think they know better than anyone else how the game works no matter how many times you demonstrate it doesn't work that way. From newb to n00b in no time flat.

I have never seen it work Samuel. I think it is actually intended not to work to prevent speed ITFs by exemping down 4 50s pre missions and then having them unexmp during the missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's exactly how people used to fudge the CoV respec trial back in the day. So I guess they HAVE changed it to base off combat levels. Too bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

i've seen it work if they Exemp/Mal before starting the TF/SF.

Actually, he loves it but hates the lag he gets over there...he swears it is only redside that he gets it...

Is redside on a seperate server? I can't figure out why its different for him...

    [/ QUOTE ]
The geometry redside is much more complex in general, which puts more of a load on your system. The easiest fix is to lower your settings a bit.

Prior to MA we were hunter-gatherers, now we are an agrarian society.

The next logical step is interplanetary space, therefore a Moon Base cannot be far off!

    [/ QUOTE ]

We need some sort of massive world war-like game-wide conflict first. Like maybe a bitter, protracted fight over farming custom enemies or something.

ta/archery def slowest ride to 50 ever. And you get the added bonus of hearing bitchin from everybody who feels like sending you tells like why no heals.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Take the Medicine pool and spam them with Stimulant. The Call of the Sandman proc in Poison Gas Arrow will give you a healing arrow. Of course it only heals you.

For more relaxed play i second Masterminds. As long as you're soloing you can set your own pace.
Bots/anything can work pretty well since they prefer to attack at range.

Mind or Plant controllers with Storm or Force Field work pretty well IMO.

Storm, Cold and Force Field Defenders can also be played in a laid back manner.

Cold Domination and Storm Summoning both have AoE debuff toggles that slow enemy movement and attack rate. My Cold/Archery has fun picking off enemies at a leisurely pace as they run towards her in slow motion.

I don't know if this would apply here, but I remember when someone told me that Immo, stuns, and holds stack with each other. I.E. an Immo and Hold would make a mag 6 hold

    [/ QUOTE ]

This one actually (in my experience at least) has a sliver of truth to it. I played a controller before Overpower was introduced and when I hit a boss with Mezmerize and Dominate back to back they would be affected by whichever I used second (the sleep seemed more reliable this way)

I don't, however, know if that was supposed to happen, or if there was a bug that was causing any mez to stack with any other mez.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mesmerize is a 3.5 mag sleep that will get a boss in a single aplication. The damage from Dominate will break the sleep if used afterwards

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's one of the reasons i use Dominate>Mesmerize>Dominate on bosses when soloing. They usually only get one chance to retaliate.

Someone (who is not a new player) posted in another thread a couple days ago that they'd dropped Darkest Night because it drew too much aggro and wasn't very useful. A little later they expressed surprise when told it was an AoE debuff, so for however long they thought it was a single target debuff.

Oh, and there was a SG coalition leader who while running his own Hami raids (the old raid) would shout for Spines Scrappers to spam Impale because he was convinced it debuffed regeneration. (Raids which for some reason frequently failed.)

Also, many players think toggle debuffs in general aren't as useful as the set's heals. Tell my toggle herding Dark Miasmists and Radiation Emitters that.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
That would have been Necross, on a previous page... Page 4 for me, of 5 pages...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it was my fault. i tend to do stuff like that on a whim. Anyway, i'm pretty much done with this thread, so i haven't read it the last couple days.

Here's a summary of my impressions before i go: Ultimo made several assertions that didn't sound accurate to me as justifications for major changes to game balance.

Several people posted responses using calculations based on the game's numbers as to why they found Ultimo's anecdotes implausible.

i decided to test one of Ultimo's claims in game while handicapping myself to give the benefit of the doubt.

i posted the results of the test and my experiences did not come close to matching Ultimo's results.

Ultimo then posted that his experiences nearly matched mine in direct contradiction of what he'd earlier presented as proof of why the game needed to be changed. i then quoted both assertions side by side.

Ultimo waffled and equivocated, i had a headdesk moment and decided that, after one last reply to a rather silly statement by Ultimo, there was no point left to posting in this thread.

And that's how i saved the world, got the girl, accused a small chunk of granite of disloyalty to the crown, arm wrestled a porpoise and then moved on to sillier pastures.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The game was made by Americans ............. shhhh!! Intelligent people talking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, this made me laugh. Not with you, but i laughed anyway.

Now i realize intelligence does not directly correlate with writing proficiency, but when posting online it's one of the biggest indicators after the logical rigor of your arguments. Unfortunately, as others have already pointed out, your posts have been a bit lacking on both counts. So, yes, intelligent people are talking, some of them to and about you, and i hope you you give what they post some thought. (Now i'm not particularly intelligent myself, just a bit snarky and easily amused, so there's no real reason to give what i say much thought.)

    Carry on.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Remember the days when the devs said there would -NEVER- be a paid for expansion?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No.
    Citation needed.
There is a world of difference between saying you would like to avoid doing something and swearing on your mother's grave that you will never do it. Many people tend to remember the former as the latter and throw a fit when it comes about. i personally can't recall a Dev ever actuallly saying that, but i don't have eidetic memory. Obviously your memory is either better or more malleable than mine. Either way i need more than a "Remember when...?" before i'll take your word for it.

Also, if you can only see MA as a farming tool it suggests to me that your vision and imagination are not as broad as they could be. i've found many fun and well-written arcs in the MA.

Thanks, it'll be a while till i build the wings, but I will favorite this thread so I can look that up when I get it ^-^

    [/ QUOTE ]

A word of warning, so you don't get to the tailor and get disappointed. Both wings and capes are 'back options' and you can't use them until you do the cape mission which becomes available at level 20. (An exception is in place for capes from a PURCHASED booster pack, like the Valkyrie/Mac pack.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wings don't count as capes. I have them on lowbie characters that can't wear capes yet. And I mean ordinary drop-recipe wings like the insect wings, nothing special.

All crafted costume pieces can be accessed at the tailor as soon as a character grafts them.

I'll have to upgrade my account it seems. Unless i want to solo for the next two weeks. So that means when my fiance gets this downloaded, we can't group together cause we're trial?

    oh, I'm Virtue server btw.

    [/ QUOTE ]

trial players can join teams, they just can't /invite anyone to anything. Last I knew, 2 trial players could ask a full account player to invite each of them and then leave the team, leaving the 2 trial players teamed together.

i've helped trial players team together a couple times on Virtue. It works exactly as you described.
