Gravity (Again)

What i'd like is if Going Rogue added a new game mechanic that allows critters to be pulled to a location/target, not just repelled from it.

Then i'd suggest replacing Dimension Shift with Collapsar, a large radius AoE that pulls enemies to the target.

Has anyone confirmed this fix as working or not? Someone in the BMT of Champion channel was saying that they knew of a team that had tried it on test and had the level 40 PPE's spawning in the later missions. i didn't put much credence in their statement since whoever allegedly did it apparently didn't care enough to post the result here.

News flash: The Devs think they shouldn't, have already given reasons why similar to some of those posted here as well as other reasons, and are the ones who have the ability to do it or not.
So, not going to happen any time in the foreseeable future. Sorry.

[i]Though your post was unusually lucid despite your name. Kudos on that.
4. The whole point is that it's done with witnesses and the exclusion of temporary powers. The contest as stated by Kat is a blueside contest with certain restrictions.
Felecia's alternative seems designed to allow cheating and completely avoiding the limits specified in the original contest rules.
Going into an AE mission "solo" makes it impossible to verify the time to defeat the AV, and, as already pointed out, the contestant could just have a friend do it for them and provide the code. And there's no way to prevent the use of temporary powers.

While i think Felletia should feel free to organize her own contest using her suggestions, it in no way resembles or allows enforcing the conditions that are the basis of Kat's contest.
While i can see a few ways to enforce some of the rules i still don't see any way to enforce the no temp powers rule that Kat specified. i still say Fellecia should feel free to set up her own contest with her preferred rules.

"We're going to have a hot dogs with hot sauce eating contest and the referee will time how long it takes you to eat 30 without drinking any water or other liquids."
"Cool, how about i take the hot dogs home and come back and tell you how long it took me to eat them?"
"Uhmm... Well, that's kind of not... What?!"
5. Pay the ELF no mind. He's just butthurt from trying to have battles of wits without any live ammo. BMT of Champion is a pretty good channel for finding teams for getting Badges, Monsters and Task forces. (It can also be a good place to find strike force and other redside teams as well. Champion's redside isn't as active as on some servers, but many of those who play redside can be very helpful.)

I'm more amused by the (paraphrasing) "All my mains are healers, and my team keeps wiping all the time. I tank most of the time."

Well, that would be your problem in a nutshell. If you're trying to do your tanker's job for him, instead of healing, then of course you're wiping. And team wipes show epic failure in either or both the roles claimed.

[/ QUOTE ]

At least six of my mains are Defenders. (My mains tend to rotate a bit.) Several are Dark Miasma, which has the most powerful AoE heal in the game. (By an admittedly trivial amount.) Oddly enough, none of them are healers, they're all support characters instead. Oh, they heal when it's useful or needed, but that's a fallback for when the far more effective buffs and debuffs aren't enough.

Dark Miasma is excellent at crowd control and herding, but tanking in the sense of grabbing and holding aggro for the team? In my opinion not so much. (With the presence pool it can be somewhat effective.)
7. [ QUOTE ]
what if there's no lag.

[/ QUOTE ](That is a question, yes?)
Then it normally shouldn't happen. A possibility is that latency/lag/load can be different for different aspects of the game. The database that the info screen pulls powers data from to display power info on a character may not be the same server that is generating the zone, just like global chat has its own server.

i've personally experienced a couple instances where it took over 10 seconds to pull up another character's info despite having no significant lag with regard to the zone. However, i'm just speculating.

Release Notes for Build 19.20090716.0

Monday, July 20th, 2009

COMBINED

[Power[*]Dark Miasma/Dark Servant (all versions): Fixed a bug that caused this power to state that it would except Recharge Intensive Pet enhancement sets. Since this pet cannot be slotted for damage, it should never have been able to accept these types of enhancements.

[/ QUOTE ]

So does this mean this pet is supposed to be a permanent pet?

[/ QUOTE ]
No, it means Dark Servant can't be slotted with any pet sets at all, recharge-intensive or not, because all pet sets focus on damage, and Dark Servant is designed to focus on support through control, debuffs and healing. However, it does take tohit debuff, healing, immobilize and hold sets, all of which can enhance the recharge. Again: Dark Servant's intended focus is primarily support, and pet sets focus on damage, so instead of damage/pet sets it takes debuff/control/healing sets. You can't even slot standard damage enhancers, unlike every other pet.
Get it?
9. [ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Well, all the other sets that DS has access to have recharge components. Makes more sense to slot ToHitDebuff/Recharge than Damage/Recharge in a pet that deals minimal damage but major debuffing.

[/ QUOTE ]
Set IOs can't enhance Dark Servant like that. In fact, Dark Servant is such a Jack of All, Master of Nothing... that Set IOs are probably the last thing you want to put into Dark Servant.

Sadly, they would probably need to create a specific pet IO just for Dark Servant because of all it does.

[/ QUOTE ]
My most recent Dark Miasma user actually slotted a tohit debuff set into Dark Servant. It makes sense to me because every power that Dark Servant used besides Petrifying Gaze debuffs tohit. Especially Chill of the Night and Darkest Night. Also the 6.25% recharge bonus is nice. The last slot i was thinking of dropping an acc/heal IO or damage proc into it.
10. <ul type="square">[*] The issue involving random characters appearing in the chat line has been fixed. For example, players should now no longer see “asdawasdsawdsLevel 10 Scrapper LFT”
So very happy to see this.
11. Well, that was the presumed method, but i'm interested in actual hard numbers for the outcome.
12. Platypuses!
(No relevance, but honestly there's no more reason for human breasts than any other nonfunctional secondary sexual characteristic/display in the animal kingdom.)
13. [ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Reptiles with navels?

[/ QUOTE ]

Since they already appear to have mammary glands, an umbilical cord isn't all that much sillier.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, there is a theory that in humans the appearance of breasts has nothing to do with lactation functionality, and more to do visual cues related to how human reproductive activities tend to differ differ from other mammals*, so it's possible that reptilian humanoids might have a similar adaptation.

*The theory is that human breasts are supposed to resemble the curved shapes of the buttocks as a visual arousal trigger/cue since humans tend to mate face to face, unlike other mammals. No other mammals have an equivalent buildup of fatty tissue on the torso or mammary glands.

16. Recently i've encountered claims that it is possible for a Dark/Dark/Defender to defeat the Nictus version of Romulus while solo in 60 seconds.

As a gedankenversuch i was wondering if any of the number crunchers who read the Defender boards could present a scenario where this will occur using the following parameters:<ul type="square">[*] Romulus is defeated all four times within 60 seconds of Defender/pets aggroing him.[*] No teammate buffs or other assistance. (SB, AM, RA, etc.)[*] Level 50 Dark Miasma/Dark Blast/Power Mastery Defender.[*] Defender build incorporates Power Build Up.[*] No more than one purple set in the build.[*] No use of geometry bugs or other coding glitches.[*] Arcanatime is factored into power times and total time to defeat.[*] All non-holiday-event temporary powers allowed. (Powers should have multiple charges or be easily replenished for repeatability on multiple runs.)
According to the claims it can be accomplished by any reasonably skilled player with a decent grasp of game mechanics.
Any takers?

[i]Edit: Even if Romulus isn't defeated all four times within 60 seconds, what is the minimum time to final defeat using the above parameters?

I'm just kind of curious why they're so determined to attack Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Same for all the other "world conquest" types. What makes this place the focal point for everything they do? Why haven't they conquered the REST of the world yet?

[/ QUOTE ]

Presumably, the attacks are simultaneously appearing all over the world, just like they were supposed to in the original invasion. To us it looks like they're always attacking our home towns because, well, that's all we can see going on. The rest is pure roleplay/backstory.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. I mean, come on. Let's give $Noob an unlimited supply of aliens with laser guns and giant flying ships and see if they only attack one city.

srsly. lrn2commonsense

[/ QUOTE ]

I assumed the point was, "since they'd WIN if they ever attacked Ottumwa, Iowa, instead of a city full of super-beings," and since game lore doesn't say "Paragon City is the last human-held city," the poster assumes the Rikti must not have attacked other cities.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but then they have Ottumwa, Iowa and no other significant assets apart from what they brought in their dropships. Not to mention that the Rikti pressing for the war are doing it out of obedience to a rigid military caste/philosophy that may discourage attacking unimpressive targets.
"Attacked: Ottumwa, Iowa? You: insane?! Other Rikti: laugh will: at us!"
19. You can always buy or find a respec recipe.
i've never needed to buy one, but i did sell one that i found.
20. [ QUOTE ]
Hmmmm...the drop ships are apparently INVULNERABLE and can drop bombs and shoot lasers while being INVULNERABLE yet they teleport Rikti to the surface to face assured destruction. I think it must be a right of passage of some sort otherwise they'd just stay in their INVULNERABLE bomb laden, laser firing ships and lay waste to everything on the ground. You know, like a barmitzva!

[/ QUOTE ]
Saturday on Champion server we shot down 18 "INVULNERABLE" Rikti dropships in Steel Canyon during one Rikti attack.

i've always gone with the hypothesis that the War Wall fields also disrupt the large-scale portals needed to bring in the dropships. The Rikti already have to use a lot of power to overcome the magical barrier isolating their Earth from the other dimensions, so it's not that implausible. i can also see Paragon City being a target of priority for Rikti hoping to establish a new beachhead since there's an active, though damaged, mothership already here.

[i]Friday on Virtue i also participated in shooting down dropships on Sharkhead, though i don't know what the count was there.

Yes PvP still favors one archetype over another and that is a good thing. In your case though the moron you were fighting seems to have had less intelligence than the AI.

LMAO
i've had a few PvP encounters where someone initiated combat and proceeded to make the game AI seem brilliant in comparison.

Not all PvP is like that. i actually think that it's good to at least try it a few times to get the basics, even just as preparation for the occasional jog through a zone to get some good stuff. i suggest doing some arena matches with friends or going to a zone as a team.

i go to zones solo usually, but then i'm generally not looking to fight, just roam about and explore or do other things in the zone, so i generally only attack if attacked first when soloing.

Aside: i never consider tells to be in character chat unless the player mentions having telepathic abilities or otherwise justifies it in advance.

I say again, the Rikti are Pak Protectors !!!

[/ QUOTE ]More of an homage i think, but the similarities seem almost too close to be completely coincidental. After all, much of CoX lore and place names appear to be references to general comic, science fiction and fantasy culture with some history geekness thrown in.

i've enjoyed Niven's Ringworld and Known Space stories for a long time, so i approve if the Rikti are an homage of sort to the Pak. Which does make me wonder if the Coming Storm will share similarities with the Slaver Empire or the Tnuctipun, but somehow i doubt it. i can think of several interstellar conquerors groups from fiction that would fit the CoX setting far better.

[i]Edit: Oops, got distracted by the Pak reference. Thank you very much for the link, Commander.
