I was actually getting this problem pre i16 on WinXP. I would crash after about 2-3 hours whilst in the base editor. Checking the memory usage in Task Manager, just after locking up, would show CoH using up about 1.6 - 1.7GB.

I've dared not attempt to do any base editing since my 1st attempt after i17 launch caused me to lockup in about 10mins. I even avoid using the base at all now as it seems to heap a load more memory usage.
  2. just to note, if you do stick with SO's, their % bonus gets overtaken by IOs after lvl 35, so you'll be wanting to swap to IOs at lvl 37. I kept my tank on an SO/IO build all the way to lvl 47 (with the exception of some of the lower lvl sets - when I could afford them), and she faired quite well with them.
  3. I would like to see other macro options included, such as:

defensive/aggressive ranged/melee - choice between range or melee attacking
defensive/goto rooted - roots pet to current/targeted location no matter where the MM/targetted mob is
If MM is out of range then they resummon next to the MM but keep their current commands active - so they would stay rooted to the resummon point if it was commanded
  4. my usual trick is to rotate around the crystal while running backwards and jumping - works everytime
  5. Thanks for the answers - FSC it is then.

Oh and I dropped empty clips not only for a better def bonus, but also because I've not been that impressed with its attack - the cone is very narrow and the damage is meh, so its not even good for chaining ranged attacks at distance.

Thats just my opinion on the experience I've had using it on this toon though - and he's still a lowbie - would probably be best to ask someone who's kept it at higher levels.
  6. ran this earlier on my lvl 29 NW... all I have to say is "OUCH". I did manage to do it, but it took several trips to the hospital and bucket loads of yellow, red n purple insps. They had a knack of staying hidden all the way through the duration of my purples, so I had to buff up, stealth in, and crit attack 1 clone, and hope I could floor it before they all went stealth, smoke grenaded and mind linked - all at the same time.
  7. Just been running through doing the Midnighter history badge on my NW, when I noticed a 6th history badge availabe: screenshot

Is this a new badge, or a blueside/GR badge thats slipped into i17 by accident - or is it just a glitch? Its not listed on CIT or Badgehunters.

EDIT: Its the blueside Academic history badge, so only GR obtainable
  8. Thanks for the info there Seraphael I've changed a few slots around from looking at your build. I've still kept him as a hover blaster tho. Unfortunately as far as the S/L build is concerned, because I want to keep the character thematic (all fire), achieving S/L with fire patron isn't going to work that well due to the lack of defense toggle power :/

btw is FSC better overall than Burn? From the mids stats burn seems to be far superior in dmg and endurance cost terms, as well as having the resist immobil - the only downside I see is the fact that you have to be near the ground, which for a hover blaster tends not to be the case . I also noticed with burn: "Afraid: 50 (tgt)" - is that a fear factor added in as well?
  9. I use jv16 Powertools 2009 by Macecraft, for my registry cleaner. They also have a free lite version here.

...and Defraggler is a great little tool
  10. okay I finally got around to working on a better build for this toon. I have 2 in the making, after quite a few hours of fiddling about - 1 range def cap and 1 permahaste build.

I'm opting for the 1st build (range cap) due to it being a lot cheaper over all, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if any improvements could be made, or whether I've chosen some crazy power set options:

I already have all of the PvP IOs I would need for this build.

I do have a couple questions about your build.

    1) After reviewing, my build looks like it might have endurance problems. Does your build? If you do, with Quick Recovery, Stamina, and Physical Perfection, then I most certainly will.

    2) How does your tank stand up to most content? What about content set to +4 Enemies x8 People? Have you ever tanked Lord Recluse in the Statesman Task Force without outside buffs?

    3) I think I get all of the things in your build...but what is with the Immobilize/Endurance in Midnight Grasp? Couldn't you slot a regular Endurance IO, or is the Immobilize important?
    1. Endurance becomes a major issue if you're dealing with the likes of Mu & Sappers (also Carnies to some degree), due to the major lack of end resistance.

    2. My tank does pretty well soloing most stuff at +2/x8, even Malta (if I get the Sappers first - which I set my TAB keybind for). Not tried +4 yet though, although I did manage to solo Tyrant as a lvl 50 EB @ lvl 46 (so not even had 80% of my sets) - took about 15mins coz of lack of dmg output,oh and I could tank Kronos till the cows came home, without outside buffs - couldn't make a dent in his HP tho . Not tried LR

    3. I just dumped that in there just to increase immobilize duration just as a little aid for when soloing certain mobs that like to run off a lot - like spectral demons
  14. I just don't think you can perma haste/soul drain a WP/DM tank, and still cap S/L. The other issue with WP is the weak taunt aura, so its always best to slot in 2 x taunt IOs into RttC. As for the choice of sets, not only is it going to be insanely expensive, but you're going to find yourself waiting for months for some of them to appear on the market.

This is my tank's current build (well almost, just short of a few recipes here and there). I scrapped haste, and instead concentrated on +dmg%, +recovery and Def. It's not HP capped, but it has a decent regen, capped S/L, and is a damn sight easier to get the items, not to mention, vastly cheaper:

  15. well (imo) for bots its best in Assbot, not played other builds to that point though so can't help on them
  16. I use Computer Associates Threat Manager 8.1, tbh I preferred the 7.1 engine but they stopped supporting that almost 2yrs ago (aka InoculateIT back in the day). Its still pretty good though, and doesn't chew up a lot of resources.
  17. hehe that's the only reason my toon is going there atm. Notice the splashing water sound just before you enter Cimerora... clipping bug - there is no floor
  18. tbh I haven't tried AE since i17, but I have crashed once or twice at the tailor, and once exiting SG base (weirdly) - and yeah I'm completely up-to-date / TSR clutter free etc etc
  19. Can confirm this too, also to note that if I open up the costume window after opening the badge window, contacts list and personal info windows, and scrolled, it causes me to crash. If I don't crash, I'm often hit with with an FPS drop. Constant opening of the contacts list over time also causes crashing.

Game runs fine if I don't open any of the windows and scroll. WW/BM doesn't cause this effect though.
  20. can't say I've noticed any difference with input lag myself, and I installed my intelitype/mouse software only at the weekend.
  21. It could also be the PSU at fault by not generating enough power. I had one blow a capacitor in it, but it still managed to work, but was running at half the power. I didn't even notice tbh, until I started playing a game, and then either the gfx card would go nuts, or one or more of my HDDs would spin down and back up, creating lots of read/write errors.

Just a thought though before you go forking out for a new mobo
  22. It may just be a case of cleaning out the fans, checking that they are working, adding more chassis fans in. Worst case is you'd have to get a new card - I'm guessing AGP from the model currently being used
  23. It sounds more like there is a hardware issue with the graphics card - maybe due to overheating, especially if this is happening on a clean install.
