Um .. as to the title ... uh ... you missed this because we were .. *whisper* ... *titter* .... *giggle* .....and then we went to the river .. *whisper* .....

I truly, really, really hope that everything goes well for everyone here and that MMOart catches up and surpasses it's reputation for art and builds a solid one for reliability.

As someone whose profession involves human interaction, this is what I have to offer:

When a business/person 'drops off the planet' more than once, you can vastly increase your expectation that it will happen again.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the results to be different.

Having said that, EVERYONE has the capacity to change. Indeed, if we didn't, we'd still be hunting with Grandma's femur and grunting.

I, too, received the bulk email and I, too, kinda-sorta had a strange feeling about it. If Outlook crashed - an entirely understandable scenario, the forums didn't, DA didn't etc. etc. and there was nothing to stop MMO from letting as many people know as possible that there were serious problems.

There are some overdue pieces there that are not on the list. Without complete transparencey, it is hard to trust motive.

The problem with trust is that it takes a while to establish and a few seconds to blow. Then it is much, much harder to rebuild.

Having watching MMOart over TA's shoulder for a couple of years now, I sincerely admire the quality of art, but the business side has truly done some self-defeating things and unless the changes are radical and thorough, this will happen again. They have all the right "accountability speak" on their website and email, but what they do rather than say, will be the testament.

I am hoping for the best. The art is amazing and the people of MMOart seem like such good people. Perhaps just not good business people.

To Juggy and all the artists who stepped up - you are really a cut above - I salute you.

As a Brit by birth and User of the "U" I can attest to the initial shock (pun intended) of earthquakes. Still, they don't happen very often round here and since I've been a long term transplant to Cali I've become somewhat casual about the odd occasions when the house shudders slightly as though a huge truck just barrelled by.

However, having lived in Santa Barbara most of my cali life and having been there for the Northridge earthquake .... THAT was something I will never forget. The ground actually groaned, rolled like a sleeping giant and my baby woke up screeeching as though she had been dreaming of nightmare on elm street, 30 seconds before the quake hit us. I snatched her up into my arms and watched the entire house rock and shake like nothing I have ever felt before. The fish in their tank were thrown from one side to the other and the house shook lke some giant hand was tryng to tear it loose.

I dd once wake up in New Zealand to find the bed I was sleeping in was crawling casually across the floor to the beat of a tremblor, but nothing compares to the violence of the Northridge one.

Still - it's pretty damn funny to hear people who live in an area of the country where tornadoes regularly tear through every YEAR (!) ask me if I'm not scared living in earthquake country!! Naaah - I'll take my chances with the once a decade or so plz thx.

Yes it is hard to interpret intent so I generally stick to holding back "the hammer". Blatent sexism or comments that demean another's intent or ability for self government are hard to 'disguise' - even with the faint wiff of humour and claims to be 'the good guy'.

I think my posts through pretty carefully and have re-read them in order to clarify my own intent and severity. I stand by my words - there is a time and place for it and I believe this was not the time or place.

The one comment "it's always a woman" was funny .... but when it started to gather momentum it became crass.

I am very independant and intelligent and I have no problem standing up for what I believe.

Unfortunately, Ironik, humour has been used for decades to cover up an inability to take responsibility for communication or action that is unacceptable by our ever evolving cultural and civilization's standards.

Humour that is directed at self is usually funny, for that is entirely your own domain.

Sexism can be funny when delivered by a comedian in a specific environment where everyone there has given an implicit consent to be exposed to certain types of humour.

A very well known coh personality such as TA coming out and showing immense courage and integrity is not necessarily the ideal breeding ground for sexist humour so maybe you should choose your audience with more discretion.

It is easy to be offensive or inappropriate and then write it off as other people not being able to 'take a joke, but that does not absolve you from taking responsilibity for your own typing.

Writing in the forum is the only way we can see each other. We only have our words to communicate who we are. Maybe if we were all sitting around a table with a beer or drink of choice we would be able to communicate with body language and tone as well as words. but as this is all we have, it is disingenuous to accuse another of a humour deficit instead of the simple and humble act of apology.

I salute Soul for his decorous and courteous acknowledgement. It was nobly done.
