A single set of purples doesnt do much just as 1 LoTG rech proc doesnt really give you a lot of return by itself but if you slot a few powers with a few sets of purples then it really starts to add up.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is true, although just slotting lots of non-purple sets adds up too. What's interesting to me is to take a build that already has good set bonuses through non-purple sets, and look at the difference adding a purple set or two makes by using Mids Hero Designer. For example, on my Archery blaster, if I change slotting in a power to go from 6.25% recharge bonus to 10% via a purple set, I shave 0.2 seconds off the recharge of Rain of Arrows, my cornerstone power. Not worth it to me.

It has been occasionally worth it. I have 2 characters that have 8 purple sets between them. But looking at the actual recharge values in Mids has cooled my jets more than a few times. I ask myself, "do I really want to spend hundreds of millions so power X can recharge 3 seconds faster?" And the answer is almost always no.

Every time some of us pointed out the detailed plans laid out in the August survey, many of you were quick to say "Hey that was just marketing folks regurgitating all our wish lists. No way all that stuff is planned!" Let's do a little review:

    MA: Check.
Side switching in Going Rogue: Check.
    Power customization in i16: Check.

But I'm sure we'll never see a Spy archetype or universal enhancement slots, right? If only they had put items on that survey that the devs were actually planning on implementing!

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would be a big mistake to take that marketing survey as a roadmap for future content. I can think of at least 2 things that were on there that were either radically changed or outright cut, and a bunch of stuff that's not on there, but are being worked on right now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First, I have to say my head is spinning a bit. I've never had a dev reply to a thread I started. So thank you for that. On top of that, earlier today I posted a query in the Technical Issues and Bugs forum asking for news about the new forum software, and 4 hours later they announce the new forums. It was probably a simple coincidence but it sure felt like my question directly prompted the response!

I must wield my newfound powers to call out dev responses carefully. With great power comes great responsibility.

Oh, and just to be clear Babs, here's something I said a few posts after the one you quoted from me:

    [ QUOTE ]
The many times I've discussed this survey I repeatedly stressed that I understood that it wasn't a contract to implement *everything* on the list. But once it became clear that it wasn't a hoax, a little common sense would tell you that they obviously put a list in there of things they thought would be practical to implement and profitable. The beef I had was with people who hand-waved the survey away as the opium dream of a bunch of marketers, when it was obvious to some of us that it was a snapshot of the best ideas they had at the time.

So, am I absolutely sure there's going to be a Spy archetype, moon zone, or universal enhancement slots? Of course not. They may have decided that those weren't practical. Or they may have brainstormed great new feature ideas since last August that pushed those to the back burner. Or those features may be getting worked on right now. No outsider knows.

also for all of you really got something smart to say...don't turn this into a personal issue cause this is just a game.. i fight in real life and i doubt any of you kids i would pay attention to.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Kids? Well, considering your sentence construction (if you can call them sentences), I would think one of two things:
<ul type="square">[*] You are a kid yourself, and have yet to learn proper spelling, grammar and syntax.[*] You are a fighter who has taken waaaay too many hits to the head, severely impacting your logic and reasoning areas in the brain.[/list]
    [/ QUOTE ]
Exactly what I was thinking. Either way, childishly bellicose. Protip: if you don't want to run the risk of hearing others' thoughts, don't post on a web forum.
  4. This isn't a bug but I think it's certainly a technical issue. While the forums have been running smoother than they were a few months ago, I just encountered my old friend "The form you submitted is no longer valid." So I'm wondering if a red name would care to comment on if new forum software is still planned? My impression was that it was imminent a few months ago, and I believe some forum performance issues were even blamed on the fact that they were running backend scripts to move old messages out of this software and into the new software. But I haven't seen any news on it in quite a while.

    Troy Hickman?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    I think you missed Troy's usual self-degradation.

He was stating that people are anticipating or looking forward to his passing.

I am too, but only to make a grab at his, yet to be proven existing, pants.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    The pants are proven.

They run faster than he does too. Which is part of why he isn't wearing them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I happen to have a screen cap of his pants right here. Agressive little suckers.

(BTW this image is from a Dr. Seuss story that totally freaked me out as a kid!)
  6. [ QUOTE ]
While I've seen people say 1 in 5000, I've never seen any numbers to back it up.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm one of those who is guilty of propagating the 1:5000 number. I saw it on Paragonwiki and assumed that some of the quants in the forums had backed into it through extensive data collection.
  7. Ghost Falcon's mission seems intimidating at first because it is a pretty big map with tons of elevated ramps full of Rikti. But in my experience, the glowie you're looking for is *always* on the ground, so just turn your sound up and look for it. Most of the times I've done that mission it takes less than 2 minutes and involves no combat at all.

    A little AE help

    [ QUOTE ]
Especially if you can remember that with a right-click on a inspiration, you can give out insps without targeting the person.

Been playing the game over 4 years and I still learn stuff on these forums. Thanks!

My least favorite part about the auto-exemp is that so many more people have heard about it than actually know how it works, a good number of the people who think they know how it works are wrong, and quite a few people are willing to argue about it forever rather than take the five minutes required to test it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
First, a minor terminology correction: while this thread title uses the term "auto exemping" what nearly all the examples are talking about is auto-SKing. That said, what's so mysterious and misunderstood about it?

I quit playing my Bots/FF at 38. Strong to the point of being boring, and no exciting powers to look forward to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    lol

because you havent hit the real challenging red side content yet, which is all 40+

    [/ QUOTE ]
I've run several villains to 50, pre-MA. So I believe I have indeed hit challenging red-side content.

Owls and Bats find their prey in complete darkness with infailable accuracy. Much better than Targeting Drone.

[/ QUOTE ]... seriously? You've got an extremely romanticized notion of the capabilities of the animal kingdom.

Well, owls and bats may not be infallible, but GECKOS ARE FREAKIN' AWESOME.

  13. English is a versatile language. There are multiple ways to say the same thing. For example:

    a) She had a face that was timeless.

    b) She had a face that would stop a clock.

Er, wait, that wasn't quite right....
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Why does there need to be a penalty for this?

Hint: the OP was being a troll, and Babs was being funny. It's a joke.

I also concur that making email something you can opt out of would go a long way towards solving the spam problem. Not only would a very large portion of the player base have the problem disappear the moment they disabled email, I think the minority who left it on would suddenly become far too small a market to be worth bothering with.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Except that if they make it something that can be turned off, they'll "helpfully" add a warning to the sender that the recipient has opted out of email. Then the next step is for the spammers to grab your global handle, and send you global tells at all hours of the day or night. What do you do then?

Doms are my personal favorite, but they are a tricky Archetype to wrap your mind around

    [/ QUOTE ]
They'll be easier when the next issue goes live. I rolled a Mind/Fire on the test server and it was a breeze to solo and teaming was of course solid. I tried rolling that same character on live in anticipation of the upcoming Dom changes and had to park it. Just felt completely anemic outside of Domination.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
On the one hand, it's made farming/PLing so much easier (and a hell of a lot more prevalent). On the other hand, it's also made doing stuff with a mixed team so much easier

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Fixed that for you.

It's a mechanism that, had I been part of the MA beta, I'm sure I would have been enthusiastic about. Seeing the massive amount of farming/PLing it has enabled has cooled my enthusiasm for it to the point where I'd rather they removed that aspect of the MA. I think the net effect has been more harmful than helpful.

I had a guy last night politely ask me was I busy and if I would help him xfer some in from his poor toon to his poorer toon. He gave me 5 mill and i offered him 50 mill, but he canx the trade and said " Oh no Ohsirus you almost gave me too much".

I told him no I didn't " You're my act of Kindness for the day". He said Wow, I just wanted to buy me some wings and Thank you.

    Very nice!
  20. That is without a doubt the coolest custom case I've ever seen. Of course, that may have something to do with the fact that I'm a rabid Girl Genius fan.

Will making certain powers black cause them to appear invisible?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even more importantly, have they found a solution to the problem of color values being tied to opacity (i.e. using black to color an aura causes it to become transparent instead of black)?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I fully intend to use that "feature". I want to turn the overly flashy visual f/x of Hasten and Super Speed waaaaaay down.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
You just went with the crazy option with little to go on aside from hope and turned out correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]
See that's the thing. I've purchased market research. Some market research is about understanding the fundamentals: customer demographics, use of competing products, potentially unmet needs. In that type of research the market researcher uses their expertise to help craft the survey on behalf of the sponsor company and it's generally sent out to a wide swath of potential customers.

The August survey wasn't that type. It was sent out only to existing customers and was a list of very specific potential enhancements to the game. What drove me crazy was exactly the type of response you just gave. In no way was assuming the majority of the things on that survey would be implemented "the crazy option". The features in that survey had made it to the top of the list after being hashed and thrashed internally by the devs. It was a snapshot of their coolest ideas (as of last August) that they believed could be implemented with the manpower they anticipated having in the near future.

When I've done this type of very specific customer polling in the past, I sure as hell don't tell the person running the poll, "please survey my customers and ask them how they'd feel about whatever the hell you want to throw in there. Oh, and feel free to put in features so impractical that no matter how excited customers are about them I could never hope to deliver them." Instead, I put in the top items from our internal wish list, and the research company handles polling logistics and helps us interpret the results.

The many times I've discussed this survey I repeatedly stressed that I understood that it wasn't a contract to implement *everything* on the list. But once it became clear that it wasn't a hoax, a little common sense would tell you that they obviously put a list in there of things they thought would be practical to implement and profitable. Sometimes people mock my judgment, but I'll have the last laugh. I'm helping out this Nigerian widow recover a ton of money, and when this plan works out I'm gonna be RICH. It's been a little complicated, but we're at the last step where all I have to do is give her my bank account details so she can deposit my millions.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Didn't Posi say we weren't getting more slots?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Correct. But if I recall correctly he said it in a way that didn't conflict with the concept of universal enhancement slots. Someone will dig up the exact quote but it was something like "we won't raise the level cap, and you won't be getting more slots for your powers." And universal enhancement slots are not slots for your powers. They're something new.
