The seller only determines a minimum transaction price; he can't force the sale. Try listing common recipe for a billion or two; naturally it'll never sell. There has to be a willing buyer and seller.

I think that the devs intend for that to be the case, but it's trivially easy to find folks on this forum that make staggering amounts of inf by logging in for less than a half hour a day with their marketing characters.

Quote:I just wanted to chime in on this. I'm not good buddies with ThugsRus but I learned a lot from his excellent Elec/SD and SS/SD guides, he give me build advice in the past, and I teamed with him briefly so he could show me how one of his brutes performed.PS If you were facing 300 bosses in a room without breaking a sweat, you were using an exploit. You're using the specialized spawning rules of AE, in conjunction with the aggro limits to gain an unfair advantage in terms of rewards as opposed to people who cannot. Just because you don't feel it was one, doesn't mean it wasn't.
His reference to "not breaking a sweat" comes from his use of incredibly optimized, multi-billion inf builds, not because of cheap tactics like using Hami Mitos. Even with the aggro limits, I assure you that being at the aggro limit with all lvl 54 bosses on an average SD brute was a nice way to rack up debt. I tried it on my SD brute and found that since a lvl 54 boss had > 7% chance to hit, being at the aggro cap would cause me to gradually chew through my insps until inevitably faceplanting. I have nothing but respect for ThugsRus's ability to build uber characters. He's up there with TopDoc and Werner from what I can see, and that's very lofty company indeed.
To address ThugsRus's original topic about wanting more of a challenge, the answer will be in Going Rogue. Check out this dev presentation at San Diego Comicon video. This video is showing key goals of Going Rogue; at 1:37 is where they confirm GR will have a way to get "a more powerful level 50" along with "a compelling new end game" with "challenges that make current challenges seem like a piece of cake". -
A user posted that two devs they chatted with at PAX a couple of weeks ago confirmed that there will be an enhancement that when you're down to 10% of enemies left in a map, or 10% of required glowies are left, they'll show up on your map. That will be SO good for kill-all missions, and those redside "plant the bomb" missions. The devs didn't say when that will go live, only that it's in the works.

Quote:It's the latter. Directing a bunch of attacks at yourself is what builds Fury.I have heard that Taunt is actually good for building Fury as well - is it the power itself that builds Fury, or the fact that you start getting attacked more afterward?
Also I know you ended up going Elec, but for others reading this thread who might be considering a similar choice one item that no one mentioned is a pet peeve of mine: WP's taunt aura is anemic. On my brutes I never seem to be able to squeeze in Taunt, instead relying on a damage or taunt aura. That works great for every secondary except WP. For example, SR's Evasion and Elec's Lightning Field both have a 13.5 second mag 4 taunt. WP's RttC is a 1 second mag 3 taunt. If I ever doa WP brute, I'm going to plan on Taunt as a mandatory part of the build. -
Correct, you get proper XP. There's no reason to skip the power now. Just get in the habit of targeting someone not on the verge of death with it. When I was playing my Elec, it was like a minigame seeing how many times I could get it to jump.

I'd love this option, but I'd guess it'd be pretty unlikely even if they wanted to do it. The backend might not even run on Windows, might be Linux-only, and certainly requires things like a robust database engine. If it's something like Oracle, that's big bucks. It's hard to imagine that once the game is near to dying and they're about to pull the plug they'd make a big investment in making all their server code able to be easily installed and configured via a script. And of course all the players that were left would want to transfer their most beloved characters to their own machines, which is yet more code that doesn't exist.
Hopefully what they'll do instead is just consolidate servers and keep the lights on, hopefully with a reduced sub fee, like $8/mo. Even with a relatively small playerbase it should be profitable to pay for a server, maintenance, a couple of GMs, and maybe a part time dev to do things like turn on special events.
Quote:This is quite true. The staff is at an all-time high, they're about to roll out what will hopefully be a very exciting expansion, and they most assuredly have great stuff planned after Going Rogue. Their Korean parent company just posted extremely healthy profits so it's unlikely there is any immediate pressure from on high to trim expenses. I'd say the future looks good for CoH for at least 18 months in terms of new content and features. Even if after that it somehow started to lose players at a fast clip we're looking at several years out before they have to look at winding down.Lol? The game isn't anywhere near running its course. -
I have different characters that exemp differently. My fire/kin controller or corruptor are happy to exemp, but I won't with my SS/Shields brute. I have him pretty pimped out so he's softcapped and has a ton of recharge bonuses. But he goes from demigod to pretty wimpy without all those set bonuses, so I won't exemp with him.
-
You do that using the PrntScr key on your keyboard, then look under the installation folder of City of Heroes for a Pictures subfolder. I'm not at my COH machine right now so if I have that subfolder wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

My brute hasn't been challenged by any solo missions for a long time now. I just cranked my virtual team size up to 8 and tried to tackle a mission overflowing with Longbow. After a pitched fight in a room packed with enemies shoulder to shoulder, a Warden boss Total Focused my villain butt. I think I was in three overlapping Sonic Grenades at the time so the damage was rather impressive.
I haven't had this much fun solo in a while. I'll have to actually use tactics now! Woo-hoo! -
Some devs confirmed at PAX that this will soon be solved:
Quote:Note that Matt = Posi and Joe = Hero 1.The best news (in my opinion) came not from the panel but just from discussion with Matt and Joe. I'm not sure when it's going to happen (likely I16) but soon at any rate. We are going to get a missing glowie/hunt indicator. When the remaining amount of glowies or needed enemies is 10% then they will show up on the map.
Edit: although I liked the /marco command idea! -
Quote:I can vouch for Fire/Dark. Fantastic combo. Great damage, nice debuffs, Fluffy adds to the fun and I believe will zone with you come i16. With the new Super SK system in i16 it'd be fun to do a themed Fire/Dark superteam since you won't have to juggle mentors/SKs. One of the most memorable teaming experiences I had was teaming with 2 other Fire/Darks. We were on a team of 8 but I don't remember any of the other characters!I am thinking Fire/Dark because once Issue 16 drops I can make black flames.. sweet...
AR/Traps sounds like it'd be fun. Like you, I've played AR/NRG and that was a bunch of fun. Boost Range + tons of cones = win. -
Quote:Yeah, I'd say it's incredibly likely. Extended maintenance on a Tuesday morning following the announcement of "use your freespec or lose it" always = new issue release.http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...12#post2234312
This is pretty much as close as they get. A five hour maintenance typically only happens when the servers are having a huge meltdown (which they're not), or an issue is launching (which is possible). -
Quote:It's an inherent.7. Pea brain- dinosaurs have small brains. Their thinking capacity was just enough for them to survive.
Quote:Extinction: The sky turns deep red. Clouds of fire appear on the horizon. Your character lets out a primal yell. A meteor the size of the Atlas Globe strikes you and everyone around you for 10 trillion damage.
*EDIT* That's probably underpowered. Add Knockback to it and a small chance to stun. -
Quote:This is the literal truth. My first defender was an Empath because when I was new to the game I didn't get the whole buff/debuff thing. But floating green numbers were easy to comprehend. There's nothing more boring than a "Pure Healer" defender on a team that doesn't need heals
I started happily teaming and leveling and getting lots of "nice heals!" comments. As I was still learning the game I didn't multitask very well. It was all I could do to keep an eye on everyone's health bars in the team window. So I would typically be so busy that all I would do was heal, along with using the Emp buffs. But almost never any blasting.
Then a real life friend invited me to run some missions sidekicked into his level 45ish team. I remember being shocked... they were steamrolling mission after mission and didn't need healing. I would throw out these little token top-off heals but really they weren't needed.I used my pew-pew-pew blast powers but I hadn't focused on slotting those so they were pretty anemic. I felt useless. My friend was playing a Rad defender and he was using these big green glowie auras that did something but I didn't know what.
That was when I started to learn about debuffing. It was a very educational evening! -
Another thread here is asking for Fire/Kin/Stone build advice and rather than derail his thread I figured I'd ask here: what's the attraction of /Stone as opposed to /Fire? I admit I chose /Fire more for thematic reasons than any sort of detailed analysis. Assuming you picked /Stone instead, why did you?
-
Quote:Then I misrepresented myself. I meant:
"If I were to try to defend my team, what is the powerful heal that I see being spammed all over the place. [then a joke that I wanted to do it. my bad for adding that since you dont' know me].
OH!
I think all the previous respondents thought you were serious. I know I did. Okay, if you just want a strong healing character you have a few choices. The classic one is Empathy. A newer alternative villainside is Pain. Rad has a PBAoE heal but only the one and it's not as strong as what Emp and Pain offer. It has LOTS of other great tricks though, being able to debuff enemies to hell. Dark also has a very strong heal although it can miss. Kinetics too has a strong heal but it fires off of whatever critter you target it on. It too can miss, and if the critter dies while it's going off, you'll see the visual f/x but no heal will happen.
I encourage you to look at all the powers in whatever set you are considering because at higher levels "pure healers" aren't as desirable as sets that have a strong mix of buff/debuff and (optionally!) healing. EDIT: for example, I was on a Task Force over the weekend with an Ice/Cold corruptor. Even though /Cold has no heals at all, he made a HUGE difference in our survivability and debuffed the crap out of the Heroes we fought. -
Sheesh I got negative forum rep for my original post?
Errr, sorry I offended whoever I offended. Let me assure you I don't look down upon your single-target awesomeness.
By the way, that downer aside, I love the variety in this game! So many different answers so far... and more importantly, tons of combos I haven't played yet! *glee* -
Quote:Stealth + SS is valid, but of course consumes an extra power pick and chews up some endurance. Like the others, I recommend the Celerity +Stealth IO. It can be hard to find at lower levels though. How much does stealth slow you down? And how does it work with Super Speed?
I'm trying to make a stealthy Draw no Aggro build without using ill control and wondered if this were the way to go.
Also, be aware that once you toggle on whatever power it's slotted in, it grants you stealth for 2 minutes that can't be turned off. On some of my characters that have costume's I'm particularly proud of, I find that annoying. So on those characters I like to slot the Celerity IO in Sprint instead. That has a couple of benefits. First, I can slot SS with either RunSpeed or EndReduc, and I can control when I want stealth. The downside is you have to remember to toggle Sprint on for a second or two every two minutes to retain full stealth. -
I wanted to hear your ideas of what the ultimate AoE character is. This is in the context of either a real 8 person team or in i16 being set to +8 teamsize.
My own subjective definition of "ultimate" factors in more than just raw DPS. For example, I love my Fire and Archery blasters but life can get a little too interesting if I don't have a teammate offering aggro management.
My Fire/Kin corruptor doesn't have as high a damage cap as the blasters and lacks their hard-hitting melee attacks but he can keep himself at his damage cap. I also love that this character's nuke isn't situational; I use it every time it's up then pop a blue and do Transference to refill my End and keep going full speed. Plus, with Siphon Speed, "full speed" is way beyond what my blasters are capable of. Three stacked Siphon Speeds is like having 9 LotG Recharges or 6 purple sets slotted. Of course he too benefits from someone helping on the aggro front.
My latest AoE machine is my SS/Shields brute. Unlike my squishies, my brute loves it when a large spawn is entirely focused on him. He's not bothered by fighting mezzing foes. He dodges most debuffs. With 2266 HP due to True Grit, set bonuses and accolades, he usually has enough HP left after taking a couple of big hits that I still have time to react. With Rage, Fury, and Against All Odds buffing his damage he cranks out Foot Stomp, Shield Charge, and Ball Lightning. The fact that I don't have to worry about lining up cones or scattering mobs with rain powers is a plus. Downsides: major End hog, the Rage crash is annoying as hell, and not a lot of defense debuff resistance. So fighting a group like Cimeroran Traitors, a couple of lucky hits can quickly lead to a cascading defense failure if I'm not quick to pop a Luck. He also has no self heal if things get dicey.
So my King of AoE is a toss-up between my SS/Shield brute and my Fire/Kin corruptor. The corruptor isn't as tough but in addition to cranking out AoE damage himself, he can increase the whole team's DPS, heal, and refill empty End bars--he's a force multiplier.
What's your favorite AoE character and why?
