Quote:I don't think adding endgame content has to mean making it a clone of WoW. For one thing, when they add new content it doesn't take away anything from the game now. Whatever you enjoy doing with your 50s now, you can just keep doing. No, dear god no, to WoW style 'endgame' stuffs that while aren't 'forced' are pretty much arbitary (if you don't raid in WoW your choices are limited to PvP, grinding daily quests or running the same dungeons over and over when your at level cap).
I came to this game to get AWAY from raiding, I did my time damnit, I put in this 12 hours a week (4 hours a night, 3 nights a week) and even THAT level of casual raiding became something I dreaded because I HAD to log in for it even if I didn't feel like it otherwise I'd be letting the guild down.
So no, a WoW style endgame can do shove it's head down the toilet to drown!
In the Comicon panel discussion they mentioned both that 50s would be able to become more powerful and that the endgame content would make the current content look easy in comparison. So I'm guessing that it will involve character progression that is similar to leveling without actually raising the level cap. The key difference from WoW will (I hope) be the lack of a grind. I've never played WoW but from what I understand you have to repeatedly do the same raid content hoping to get the drop(s) you need. I doubt they'd do that here. I think they realize that one of the strengths of this game is that it isn't a WoW clone.
The (perhaps impossible) challenge for them is to make this new character progression not feel grindy yet last as long as possible. It would suck if you could complete the fabulous new endgame in 2 weeks. Yet if it just feels like mindless repetition in order to draw it out, there will be player backlash. Tough, tough balancing act. -
Quote:For folks who may not have seen this: At the San Diego Comicon dev discussion panel, they made it clear that one of their key goals for Going Rogue is to add a challenging end game to CoH.End-game Content (outside of TFs). Other than the Rikti/Hami raids, there really isn't a LOT. More is promised, so... this might already be covered.
More than that, notice they carefully said "a way to make your level 50 a more powerful level 50." They have repeatedly said they're not going to raise the level cap, but they obviously are planning a system to 'power up' level 50s. The prime suspect as to how they'd do this is Universal Enhancement Slots, first mentioned in the August '08 marketing survey.
EDIT:
Quote:There shoudn't be a forced endgame - CoH is very good at keeping everything optional - so any new endgame stuff should really be made as something that you can decide to do or not.
In the video I linked to above, Posi notes they've spent "a great deal of development effort on" the end game. So it's coming and we'll just have to see what it turns out to be. -
Quote:I vaguely recall a redname saying that pistols just made no sense for melee characters. That's why we're getting dual pistols for Blasters (and, I'd guess, Corruptors) as part of Going Rogue, complete with awesome gun kata. Now i just want the artistic of dual wielding and even if they copy the claw set , just ad a couple single target shot at range 15 is fun enough to play.
I hate to pile on, but IMO pistols make no sense at all for a melee character and the idea of selling an AT is awful. As part of a major expansion like COV or GR, sure. But as a standalone booster pack, no. -
I just wanted to commend the OP. It's incredibly rare that someone apologizes for poor behavior in the forums. Kudos to you.

Quote:Unless they've set up a new GR-specific server, then no beta has started yet.I'm really hoping that's a realistic winky-face on the end, and not a sarcastic one...'cuz I'm designated in one of the early rounds due to my 5+ years of vet time. And I, too, wanna see what's in the black box ASAP. Getting impatient, even though I know it does no good for anything.

The most important change they could implement for Ouro IMO would be to add the Bank missions. Those exploration badges are needed for an accolade red-side and are a royal pain to get.

Quote:By the way, there's a fix coming for this exact issue. They've developed tech such that when you get to 10% remaining of glowies and/or mobs in a 'defeat all', they'll show on the map. When they announced this, they were vague on if it'd be rolled out before Going Rogue. It can be, but it may not be. I'm also not clear on if this is something that'll be automatic or if they have to enable it on a per-mission basis.Actually, the things I hate the most in this game are the caves and the one stupid glowie that can't be found. (The last mob stuck in a wall is no picnic either.) As a villain planting a bomb, that makes no sense anyhow. Why would you not know where you want to plant something? I'm not a big fan of "scavenger hunts" in that regard.

Quote:It already roots you and has big -Res and -Def. I think that's enough.I still think that if the recharge on Rest is lowered, the recovery/regen rate should be as well.
Either that, or give it an AoE taunt effect. It'd be something along the lines of "Hey, this moron is sitting down to take a break right next to me. Screw this big guy, I'm gonna kick this guy's butt!". This would help prevent it from being used in battle in addition to the massive defense/resist debuff. -
Quote:I'm glad you brought those issues up. It's easy to look at only things like damage and recharge and overlook radius of AoEs.
- Tremor vs Thunder Strike:
- Tremor uses the same animation as Thunder Strike to do slightly more (1.0 scale vs 0.96 scale) AoE damage, but to a much larger radius (15' vs 7');

If you end up having a go at AV soloing, make sure to write it up here on the forum. I'm interested to hear how it goes.

Quote:I too have both an Elec/SD and an SS/SD. I stripped the Elec of IOs to equip the SS. SS does more AoE damage over time and has stronger single target attacks. No cones to line up, either, which is nice.i have both an elec/SD , and SS/Sd brute for farming...both are great....i have played the elec/SD brute a bit more
Another popular choice for farmers is SS/Fire, although I don't have any experience with that combo. It'd be a better choice if you plan on farming Nemesis because the massive to-hit buffs the Nem LTs dole out are bad news for defense based characters like Shields, but don't matter to Fire. -

Quote:I sort of dread the pineapple option. I mean, once he uses that there's no going back. And then how will Arcanaville respond? I mean, what can she do to refute the pineapple?i love arcanaville. i suspect coldmed will respond by shaking a hollow pineapple at her.
I'll tell you:

Quote:Not exactly. While a ticket farm custom designed to play to your character's strengths is tempting, top farmers are going to stick with farms that can drop purples. TopDoc did a very careful study using his pre-nerf Fire/Psi Dom in March of '09 and found he made more off of selling purples than everything else put together. He was pulling in about 60M/hour.On a side note you can custom MA missions for any character to max out tickets expediently. I mean the caps so low now who couldn't? If you want to farm with a fire//psi make a custom mission. Cap out your tickets. Roll bronze 10-14 and 35-39. Get your recipes. Go sell em.That'll put you right up at 20-30 million an hour with the big boys on any AT you care to play. Voila!!!

Quote:These things are often started because someone is annoyed with a player. It's often not that someone took offense to a name, it's just a cheap/easy way to be spiteful.Personally? I shake my head in wonder.
In this game, we can beat up, shoot, kill, steal, judge and execute those around us and people take offense with a name like roll me another J?
These censorship rules keep amazing me.
The EULA is pretty clear that names with drug references won't be tolerated so when it gets into the hands of a GM, they don't have room for discretion. -
Quote:Yeah currently you get 1/2 debt inside missions, you don't start earning debt until 10, and the debt cap is quite a bit lower. I remember teaming with an SG-mate early on who was so disgusted with the amount of debt he racked up on a lowbie that he deleted and re-rolled his character. In the old days, way before my time, debt was a serious pain in the... from what I understand.

Quote:Superb idea.Possible alternative that might be a little simpler to implement:
Team members who disconnect/log off don't drop from the team window. Their name just changes to indicate they are offline.
Leader can then still kick them if desired/needed.
Quote:The QoL suggestions are ok, but I would be pissed off if I disconnected or crashed and was kicked because of it. Maybe a timer could be added so that if the aforementioned happens, a player could have a chance to rejoin the TF/SF before an over zealous team leader kicks them.
Quote:A fire/nrg blaster would be OK, the point being that you can get ludicrous amounts of global recharge meaning aim, BU fireball etc recharge fast, and enough recovery to power this. You can do similar with some scrappers. As is pointed out in later posts, the missions would be set for 2 not 3.
One of the major advantages a 50 has is being able to carry 20 insps. If doing this with a second account, you leave the second toon at posi or Azuria.
I believe it was TopDoc who posted an insanely optimized Posi build for a Fire/NRG blaster about a year and a half ago. You're right about the vast advantages a 50 has. Not only in insps but in slots. An amazing thing TopDoc's build did was slot WAY over the ED limits for the available powers so that after enhancement strengths were reduced due to auto-exemping you ended up with slotting that was close to the ED caps.
I wish I could dig up that build because it was a work of art. Picked all kinds of screwy powers starting at 18 to be mules for purples. It had huge recharge and recovery bonuses, big runspeed bonuses and decent ranged defense. I remember looking at that build and just thinking to myself, "I don't care how long I sat with Mids, I never could've come up with this myself."

Quote:Agreed.I also personally feel it's sloppy to have a dozen or more zones that nobody goes to as well.
Quote:Or even zones that people only go to for one reason, such as Cim.
And the zone being so small contributes to how great the ITF is. You never have to spend more than a minute traveling from one mission to another which terrific.
If they want to create more special purpose mini-zones like Cimerora, I'm entirely in favor of it. -
Quote:I'd agree with this. Powerwise nothing comes close to Ninja Run in terms of a self-buff. The Fortune Teller buffs are pretty nice but of course only help teammates. For me, currently, the "Order of Purchases" would be :
Natural/Martial Arts pack because of Ninja run and there are some very good costume bits.
Magic Pack - The fortune buffs are fairly good, and some of the best costume bits in the game, many think.
One thing that hasn't been talked about much are the actual costumes that come with each pack. This type of thing has different appeal to different folks but as for me, I think the cyborg and magic costumes are so cool they justify the cost of their packs by themselves. So I'd say before finalizing your purchase, hit the store website and check out the various screen shots. -
Quote:I agree with you to a point. To me "new zone" is synonymous with "new arcs" so yes, it's really the new content in the zone I like. I'd be just as happy to have them put new content in existing zones. But as the Herocon panels confirmed, the devs don't like doing tweaks or half measures in zones. They always say "if we're going to redo a zone, it'll be the Faultline treatment (total redo), which is only slightly less effort than a brand new zone, so we're going to stick with new zones."New zones I feel are pointless, as we have a lot of zones already that we aren't using. And like maps, it's just a quick glance that says "Cool," and then you go do something else. And as interesting as Cim is, the only reason anyone goes there is for the ITF. If the ITF was put in another zone, Cim would be empty. I really don't want the devs to spend a thousand manhours to build a zone that has no reason to exist when we have plenty of zones already.

Quote:They had one planned that was referred to as the Vault, I believe. They got it implemented but initial testing showed that it was a huge resource hog. They scrapped that implementation. It's still on their "we'd like to offer this at some point" list, but all indications are that it's back-burnered indefinitely.Does Coh have an out of game characters viewer like http://my.lotro.com/ or http://www.wowarmory.com/ ? I have found those very fun use.

I'd like an option to see much more history for items in Wentworths/Black Market via a "More..." button. Instead of just the last 5 sales show a scrollable list of the last 50 and show weighted moving averages for the day, week, month, and quarter. Because events, FotM powersets, and new issues can change prevailing market conditions, it's probably not helpful offering historical averages older than a quarter.
-
My two bits:
When I was trying to come up to speed and become a serious marketeer, I used an online Google Docs spreadsheet to track price ranges, my buy/sell prices and profits.
I've occasionally used Herostats and while it's terrific at what it does, honestly I don't usually need the kind of precision it offers.
I got into badging on one character and Glycerine was terrific, saving me much time and guesswork. (And yes, I'm aware of the irony of saying I don't have much need for Herostats then touting Glycerine which is built off a subset of Herostats' features!)
-
I sympathize with JDub's comments. Don't get me wrong, I'm here for the long haul. But for me stuff like power coloring or revamped events don't offer the kind of replayability as a totally new powerset or AT, new mission maps, zones, etc. Even stuff like powerset proliferation wears thin, as welcome as it is. And I guess I'm one of the few players entirely unexcited by the return of the 5th Column.
I know how hard it is to develop software, so I completely understand the risks of crowing about a feature that has even the tiniest risk of not being released. My only gripe about GR is that I wish that Marketing would plan on a steady stream of "micro news".
I already posted about this in another thread, but basically even at this very early stage I'm sure they could scrounge up things like screen shots of new zones, screen shots of new NPCs, concept art, short essays on Praetoria, etc. It wouldn't take much to keep the buzz at a fever pitch.
If NCSoft's marketeers are anything like the marketing folks I know, they are constantly being commanded to use tools like Facebook and Twitter. Well, if they plan on doing old school "big reveals" every 6-8 weeks, those don't mesh with social networking. They would be better served by doling it out in small bites.
No matter, I'll stick around. News on GR will come when it comes, and I'll play it when it's eventually released.
