I have a lowbie Thugs/Traps that I'm enjoying, but I'd like you folks to review my planned build. I believe this build will softcap the pets' defenses, and it should softcap me to Smashing/Lethal (along with 41% AoE, 37% ranged, and 30% melee for non-S/L damage). There are no purples or HOs because this is a leveling build.

Quote:I actually love that huge KB! Ditto when a Fake Nem blasts me onto my butt.Somethings like generators and Mole Machines have to much knockback. Like the Generator in Marshal Brass's first arc knocking you off the bulding and halfway across the map.
I don't mind the occasional knockdown/back. What I can't abide is flopping around helplessly either due to lots of minions having KB or a power like Earthquake. -
Quote:A few years ago I was part of a fun SG. We all had a good time, but most of us took the game fairly seriously, i.e. we cared about leveling speed. One of us was this delightfully crazy lady that enjoyed spicing things up and yanking our chains more than she cared about leveling. It pulls great. Rain of Fire is a good pull too if you want a really robust pull.
Inevitably we'd come to a dangerous spot and the team would halt, and we'd talk about how we needed to pull to thin out a troublesome room. She'd inevitably volunteer to pull and instantly use her biggest AoE at the same time we all were shouting "NNOOOOOOoooooo!!!"
Fun times. -
Yeah, with two kins and decent sized mobs, you'll be at the damage cap. In the higher levels as your team faces AVs, Siphon Power can be a very effective debuff; but if you're going to choose one vs the other, I'd go with Siphon Speed. Triple-stacked Siphon Speed plus Speed Boost from your teammate turns you into a machine gun.

Quote:Yup, I kept thinking of Green Machine as I was reading this thread. Solistion, if you want to see why your idea of changing ally-only buffs to self-buffs will NEVER be implemented, create a Green Machine character. There are some build restrictions, but the point of GM teams is to always keep one another buffed with the Empath buffs so basically you can experience what it'd be like if you could self-buff. It's freaking sick. Tank-mage time. Your suggestion is never going to happen. There is a supergroup of empathy defenders that put these numbers to devastating effect by teaming up: The Green Machine

Quote:Man I would love to see you in action. I like the cut of your jib!I have been on Task Force runs before where my Fire/Ice/Fire was even told off for causing "too much knockback", when the only power I had that inflicted KB was Rise of the Phoenix.
Quote:It's a beast to solo, and teammate reactions (seriously, does anyone still care about EXP debt?!!?) are just priceless... -
Quote:I don't think the OP's post has to be interpreted as asking about exploits. After all, classic farm missions play to the strengths of the characters doing the farming. E.g. the reason the Battle Maiden maps are so popular with traditional farmers is the combo of open map with foes that don't mez, resist mez, or have strong ranged attacks. Not an exploit but definitely the ideal situation for a controller.Do you just mean any regular mission that can be played over and over for normal rewards, or does "good" mean some sort of exploit?
On an unrelated topic: is it possible to report players on the forums for asking about exploits, so they can be banned if they take advantage of them?
But without knowing the OP's character type I'd be hard pressed to recommend anything in particular. Just remember, if you want to farm choose an outdoor map to improve the speed of getting from spawn to spawn, and choose an enemy type that plays to your character's strengths. It's not rocket science. -
Devs: THANK YOU. You listened to us, and we appreciate it. And
I'm also looking forward to being able to give insps to any teammate in co-op missions. -
Quote:No thanks. Castle has mentioned in the past that any changes to Speed Boost won't be for free. For example, making it an AoE would also come with a dramatic increase in End and Recharge.what really needs to be done is to make sb a aoe buff instead of individual. its the cause of a lot of problems in the game having to manually buff each team member with speed boost every couple of minutes especially since its one of the most sought after buffs.
I love playing Kins and I'd love the convenience an AoE SB would bring, but I think I'd rather have an awesome power left alone, lest it be made into a shadow of its current wonderfulness.
[Oh, and the OP should get stuffed. His "please and thank you" demand for buffing is absurd.] -
Thanks Hopeling, very comprehensive and helpful answer!

I did a little searching and I've seen some mention of it. My main desire would be for AVs when the team doesn't have someone with a -Regen power.
I know it'll have a problem of missing since it can't be slotted for accuracy, but besides that how effective is it against AVs? I think it's listed as -250% regen but how heavily resisted is that? Will it make a difference if I'm the only character using it, or does most/all of the team have to use it in an AV fight for it to be noticeably effective? -
Quote:This times 1000. I haven't done MA in ages because there are so many clones-of-clones-of-clones of old exploit farms. And now we've got another generation of useless exploit farm arcs, the majority of which will never be deleted, cluttering up the MA. Time to reiterate the request for some kind of purge mechanism to hide arcs that nobody wants to see anymore.
Please, please, devs, put in a feature that has old missions auto-unpublish after 120 days. You can email the player's global at the 90 day mark and say "Misson such-and-so is going to automatically unpublish in 30 days unless you republish it." MA authors who cared about their missions would take the few minutes to republish, but most of the old farms would quietly fade away.
IMO that would be one of the best things to happen to MA; clear the chaff. -
Quote:I've seen so many MMO launches that I'm now quite cynical. You read all the breathless hyperbole even from supposedly objective websites, then you let a few months go by after launch and a different story often comes out. Remember how Tabula Rasa was going to reinvent MMOs? Warhammer was going to surpass WoW. CO was going to crush CoH.Meanwhile DCUOnline has already a release date for those who Pre-Order....
And with •"Extreme customization" allows you to create your own custom hero or villain
and •DCUO uses a state-of-the-art physics engine that turns the world into your weapon (wich seems like the destructable universe many asks around) it looks bad for us...
So DCUO may be a killer game that makes CoH look horrible by comparison. Or it may have a bunch of new shiny eye candy and lack depth and engaging gameplay. Or something in between. We just don't know yet. But I'm not fearing for CoH's future just based on prerelease hype.
We also have to remember that it's not like the cool stuff here ends with Going Rogue. There will be an issue 19, 20, etc. CoH is definitely not played out. The only thing that would make me fear for CoH's future is if they gut the dev team the way Cryptic did after the release of CoV.
EDIT: one more thing. Sony is developing this for both the PS3 and the PC. That really means, in effect, that it's a PS3 game. Forget sending tells, since most of your teammates won't have keyboards. You're likely not to have complicated attack chains because the game's going to be optimized for a gamepad. It's going to have a heavy emphasis on action. Until I hear otherwise, I'm betting that this is going to be seen as something new and unique for the PS3 rather than as competition for CoH on the PC. -
Once Going Rogue goes live and we get people crossing from redside to blue, make sure to recruit a Night Widow or two to your teams. Their team oriented defense buffs are great and as a bonus they're offensive powerhouses.
-
Quote:I think far more players will leave redside than will go there, exacerbating all the existing teaming/market problems. Any villain that I intend to play, I'm going to move to blueside.Yup...this is my fear about GR in a nutshell. Not that any particular Red Side AT will be effected but that a max "Berlin Wall" type exodus will happen in the Rogue Isles. There really will be no reason to play Red Side. Blue side is much more enticing. Which is sad because I think villains have the best story arcs. But the Economy sucks and there are few players(making teaming harder). Just like in the real world people will flock to where the money and opportunities are.

Yeah, yeah, I know players are clamoring for Going Rogue. BIG DEAL. I have a much more critical request, and I think I can dispassionately and objectively state that it should be top priority not just for Paragon Studios, but for all of NCSoft. That's right, even the parent company back in Korea.
What is this existential crisis, you may ask?
THE ROLL EYES SMILEY.
That's right, you heard me. While most of the forum's emoticons are quite nice, the rolleyes smiley seems to be looking down at a kitten:"Oh, look!" it says, "there's something adorable near my feet!"
Try this: the next time someone says something that makes you exasperated (maybe even what I'm writing now?) imitate the expression on that smiley. Go head, smile and look at the tip of your nose. Does that expression convey annoyance, peevishness, sarcasm?
Thank you Paragon Studios for your immediate attention to this urgent matter. -
Quote:One quirk of the Search window is that when you first type /search, it comes up with an initial search just showing folks in your zone. Since many potential teammates may not be on the same map, it's not an accurate picture. Fill in the level range you're interested in teaming with and press the Search button and typically you'll see a much larger list of names.Using the Search tool (instead of putting something into chat, type /search) gives a better idea of who's out there. Most people are in missions, most people are on teams, most people have been playing for several years and tend to hang out with their friends. Blue names are not on teams; grey names are teamed.

Quote:While no gender is implied by the name, Lusca is obviously male. Check out this picture:Just like Lusca is the name of the type of creature, not a name of the actual creature. No gender implied by the name.

Quote:Yeah, I totally could go for this, although given people's reaction to the VEAT backpacks I think the armor would have to have 2-3 different looks available, being able to mix 'n match torso, arms, shoulders, legs, helmet. So the equiv of like 3 special new costumes, but all sharing the same animations so it wouldn't be an insane amount of work.Three words;
Power Armour AT.
The arm mounted gatling guns and lasers and backpack cannons along with Power Armour that the PPD Hardsuits pack; /Want
Now because this type of costume would be directly tied in to power sets, there'd also have to be new code forcing costume slot 1 to be switched-to when the player activated any primary/secondary power. -
Quote:It's true that he didn't say he was going to nerf Shields. However, what he implied is that a nerf is clearly in order, but it's too big a job to do just now:Don't see why Castle's post in here are causing so much anguish. He didn't say he was going to nerf anything. In fact, he barely said anything at all. People are reading too much into these comments. But I guess that is to be expected.
Quote:FWIW, nothing is going to be done about this for now. It's too big and widespread of an issue for me to unilaterally decide on how to approach it. I'll give folks a heads up on what is decided as soon as I know.
When the dev in charge of powers says that the current damage level "REALLY sucks" and posts reference numbers that are substantially lower, how are people supposed to take that? Of course Shield users are anxious. -
IMO perma-hasten for a Fire/Kin is overrated. I'd go with Lewis's suggestion of a high defense build. You'll save a ton of inf and have a very effective farmer. Also, unless you just want a "leet" build, I wouldn't spend any inf on expensive +Recovery or +Regen IOs. With Transfusion and Transference they're simply not needed.
-
If wanting to farm at 50 is important, then I'd say SS/WP. For pure fun, I'd personally go SM/WP. The stone hammers are sooo much fun and you get a fair amount of mitigation. Stone has fast, end-hungry attacks so WP is a great pairing.
My main brute is an SS/SD. But honestly I don't recommend it unless you have a huge budget. On just SOs or inexpensive IOs you'll have more fun on SS/WP or SM/WP and still be very effective either solo or on a big team.
