Does not combine with SJ or SS, turns of SJ, SS and CJ, as someone mentioned above.

Edit: Considering what little problem I've had with Mystic Fortune and Self-Destruct, the second half won.
Not to mention it shuts off defensive "travel" powers like Combat Jumping, so once again, "not intended for use in combat".

Wow, expensive power! Glad it jumps higher than CJ, but sad that you lose the defense bonus. I hope we can slot it for endredux. I know it's not meant to be used in combat, but do you know how often I forget to turn off sprint? (Not complaining! Just commenting!)

  6. First please allow me to preface the following by saying: I have just bought the Ninja pack and applied the code to my account. I have bought every booster pack immediately upon release. I didn't see much in the Cyborg pack that interested me, but I have since then found uses for a few of the costume pieces, and I really enjoy Self Destruct. Nothing much in the Super Science pack (as far as costume pieces) excited me, but I also found some uses for a few of those costume pieces as well.* So what I'm trying to say is, even though I don't play much for ninja characters, I'm sure I'll find a few things in this pack that I will enjoy.

But my question/concern is this: When we rotate through all five origins, what then? Are we going to start over and get even more pieces? Will we have other booster packs to look forward to? I guess it boils down to the fact that we're close to the end of the Origin packs now, and there are still a lot of costume options I was hoping for that we're not going to see this round. Will there be another round to address more requests?

    And, just because I can:
    Total number of characters: 97**

Total number of characters which use the _ pack in their primary costume***:
    Wedding: 14
    Valkyrie: 19
    Cyborg: 5
    Magic: 15
    Super Science: 5

*I am keeping my fingers crossed for animal heads/tails in the mutant pack. It may oust the Valkyrie and Magic packs for most-oft used, if it does. Maybe.
**I am not allowing myself to roll any new toons until GR. Then I'll roll about 20.
***I've found a couple of toons who were missing tags, so the numbers above may not be wholly accurate. But they're close. Also note that these bits get used in a lot of non-primary costumes, which is not represented here. I guarantee more than 19 toons are using Valkyrie bits, that's been my favorite pack so far.
  7. I agree that there's a need for more "not normal" weapons. Alien looking, steampunk/retro looking, futuristic. I really like the weapon designs that are "square" shaped (or similar), that is, the ones that have some kind of guard coming off the bottom of the barrel to give the weapon a closed-circuit shape. I also like the sound of biological firearms. Arm cannons would be really awesome if it were possible, but then that would open up a whole can of customization worms so never mind. Oh yeah, and the guns with blades on them, those are neat, too.
  8. I just wanted to pipe up and say: I love the new ability to Walk, and I have no problems with how it was implemented or how it functions. (And I don't even RP.)

Thank you BaBs, thank you very much.

    Yeah, I feel ya. At least the Rams and the Titans are also winless so far this year, so we're not alone. I hope we win at least one game.. ONE GAME.. so we don't have an entirely winless season.. again. For the longest time we were the only team in the NFL to have a winless season, until the Lions last year. If we go winless this year we'll be the only team in the NFL to have two winless seasons under our belts.. more than 30 years apart no less! ;_;

I think starting Leftwitch was a mistake, and we'd have done better this season so far with Johnson or McCown at the helm. We might still be winless, but Josh has put more points on the board and led the team better than Byron ever did.

We also need an offensive line that can protect the QB and make holes for the RBs. This has been a problem for YEARS and it just never seems to get any better.

Now we get to fly to London and get our butts handed to us by the Pats (WHY DO THEY DO THIS?! WHO SCHEDULES THESE GAMES?! Is this really how we want to present the NFL to the rest of the world: here watch this one team beat the living snot out of this other team"? ARG!!) So then we can go into our bye 0-7.

    *sadface*

  13. I am somewhat saddened* by a couple of the tags that people have given this thread. I can't figure out if they're cowards for doing that and not having the courage to reveal themselves in the thread, or if they're smart for keeping their mouths shut. In any case I should probably be thankful, trolls would just derail the topic anyway.

*Not overwrought, mind you. Just disappointed that, while we have fewer trolls than most, we still have people so immature and spiteful. :[

That's why I felt the need to write the letter in the first place. It's usually the angry people who are the most out-spoken, I'm glad we've created an environment (at least in this thread) where the satisfied customers can speak out (and are doing so)!

Edit: LOL, thanks to whomever updated the tags, the new ones are hilarious! ;]

Totally understood, and I don't blame you at all. If it's how ya feel, that's how it is! And like I said, I'd love to see more costume options. :] Especially counter-shading, oh how much I want counter shading, and then the ability to put stripes over that, so I can finally roll up my alter-self Sapphire! xD (Noooot going to happen for a long time, if ever, I know...)

I would say ignore any neg rep you receive i am sure you will get a great deal more positive.
I wasn't worried about the negative rep, I just found it funny. At least they put something into words, and they are certainly entitled to their opinion. I just think it's funny, because in my mind "sucking up" means you can get something out of it.. whereas giving praise here on the forums will net me the same as if I'd trolled, or written a post about bees. That is, you get a bigger post count, some people see your thread, etc. I dunno, maybe you don't have to expect an actual return to suck up to someone, I just always thought that was the point.

I must admit I've never seen a post by someone who "blindly worships" the Devs.. I certainly never said they can do no wrong, and I definitely don't worship them. ;] They're people, and worship is pretty creepy to most people. At least, in my experience. I just think they do a great job, as far as jobs go, and wanted to make sure they knew that.
  15. Heh, thanks Hallowed ;]

I must admit there are times that the Devs work on things for which I care little (or nothing) - such as PVP. (Especially PVP. Mostly PVP.) But I don't begrudge them the time to work on it. Even if Issue17 was nothing but PvP stuff, I'd be quite happy, because any improvement to the game increases its chances of sticking around for a long time. In fact, as much as I love power customization and super-side-kicking, I had just as big a SQUEEEE-fit over the fact that they fixed global channel colors. That has been my single thorniest bug, the one that has driven me the most nuts, so the fact that it has been fixed is right up there with power customization and SSK. So I am DEFINITELY not one to begrudge the Devs time working on whatever they feel is the priority of the moment- they have a lot more information than I do, and I know that eventually they get around to taking care of everything they can. Just because it's one of *my* top priorities, doesn't make it a top priority for the game as a whole. :]

I have to respectfully disagree. You are certainly entitled to your opinion on the matter, but I don't think costumes are neglected at all. The Devs have had a lot on their plate and still manage to push out new costume options, even free ones that aren't attached to the costume packs. I have almost 100 toons with a huge variety of looks, and any similarity between them is on purpose. Don't get me wrong, I'd love even more options at the tailor! But I don't think this is an area that has been neglected. (Just my opinion, of course.)

Actually I received a negative reputation for the OP, with the comment "sucking up to people is lame". This amuses me very much.. I was under the impression that "sucking up" would be with a goal of some kind of return. What kind of return could I possibly get for writing a love letter to the devs? Does someone think they'll send me a costume code, or other goodies? As I see it there is literally nothing I can gain from writing this kind of letter, except the satisfaction of knowing that I've shown my appreciation. As someone who knows what it's like to have a boss who NEVER shows recognition or appreciation for my effort, I know how much of a downer that can be. (Especially I've also had bosses recognized my effort on a regular basis. I don't ask for much, but it's nice to get a pat on the back sometimes, to know that all the butt-busting is appreciated.)

I get *so much* joy from this game.. I almost got emotional while reading the letter aloud to my partner (before I posted it). That probably sounds silly, but I can't help it.

Yeah, I made the same oath a long time ago too. I was furious that companies would force me to pay $50 for a game and then expect me to pay an additional monthly fee. I swore I'd never do it. Then one of my roommates got City. I saw the character creator and was amazed, I was so used to games giving so little control over a character's appearance. So I asked if I could just create characters on his account, I never intended to play.

Yeah, that didn't last long. The game sucked me in and I bought my own account.. May 12, 2004. I've been here ever since, and I'll be here until the servers go offline permanently. Even if they stopped creating new content, and made no further changes to the game - I'd be here.

    I love this game. ;]
  18. I can't speak for meth, but to be honest there are times when my partner listens to me babble on about City, or describe how I've just spent several hours working on my City site, and he'll look at me and say "CRACKHEAD!"

How am I misinterpreting it, please? I am a tweaker, in that I love to tweak things. I poke around in the costume creator so often that I've had toons run out of tailor tokens. The sheer level of customization that this game offers lets me design characters exactly as I want them, and to me, that is paradise. I'd love your interpretation, however. :]

Edit: Oh, I may now understand. But please be assured, I was using the following definition of tweak:

    To adjust; fine-tune.
  20. First allow me to say that I do not think anything I could write can adequately convey just how thankful I am not only for this game, but also for you, the Developers, and your openness and dedication to the City of Heroes/Villains franchise. I wanted to send you goodies, but I understand you have discouraged that behavior, and so I am relegated to this: mere words.

I appreciate how much you guys listen. You spend a lot of time here on the forums, and endure a lot of abuse from people who have no idea what they're talking about, all in an effort to hear what we are saying. And while we all know how fruitless it is to try to please everybody, it is quite apparent that you do care what we think – which seems common sense as we are your paying customers, but I have infrequently experienced this from other vendors. Not only do you solicit player feedback, you act upon it. You guys have implemented changes based on player input, you try to keep us in the loop as much as possible regarding the thought processes behind the end results, you make yourselves available to the player-base on a scale I have never observed elsewhere. Of course I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but I want to let it be known just how much your herculean effort is appreciated.

I truly love this game. I've spent hundreds, or perhaps thousands of hours logged in, and when I was (for whatever reason) unable to log in, I've spent additional hours with City-related activities: build planning, forum-reading, art. There are so many reasons I love City; it appeals to many distinct sides of my personality. And that in and of itself is a reason to love this game: There are innumerable ways to have fun, different goals to strive for, distractions to amuse. I feel like the game is a Tweaker's Paradise, though I must admit I may simply be biased. In any case, you have given as much control of as many aspects as possible to the players, and you continue to invent new ways to give us more choices, whether with customization, proliferation, content, or features.

Also a heartfelt “Thanks!” to everyone else who keeps the game running smoothly (or our reasonable approximation thereof). Moderators, customer service, even the admins and office workers (if Paragon Studios has such), everyone involved in keeping the whole thing going. And to all of the subscribers, whether we agree on The Issues or not, because it is our combined support that keeps the servers on; I couldn't do it alone. (Though I'd try!)

    Thank you for this game.

    Most Sincerely,
    Kelly L Creighton, aka @kwsapphire

I can confirm that these have been this way since they were put in the game. Whether you think it's attractive or ugly, it's not a bug. If it were a clipping issue, adjusting the hips slider would affect how much skin is showing, but that is not the case. Though I have noticed that a few things clip differently since i16.. I'm sure it's working as intended, but I'm not so sure I like it. I have a lot of issues around the elbow area on a lot of my toons now. Oh well, very minor issue.

I'm not at home right now so I can't attempt to reproduce this, but I can verify: I am aware of power sets that use different pallets within the same set, I am aware that the intent is to use as close an approximation as possible, but sometimes this doesn't work. Sometimes it does, but sometimes I use "copy colors across power set" and the powers that use an alternate pallet remain "original". It drove me nuts at first because I couldn't figure out what was going on. I have a lot of stormies so it is possible that it has to do with storm (I have, since i16 went live, been logging in each of my 94 toons and updating their UIs, globals, and customizing powers where applicable, so I've been through storm several times)... however I honestly seem to remember this happening with earth control. Oh yes, that's what it was - I switched to lava theme, customized the first power (immob), and the second power (single target hold) was still "original" theme. I had to manually select lava on it, as well as a couple of other powers. (Sorry, cannot name powers right now.. six hours sleep.. cannot brain..)

One of my favorite combos is to set up as many trip mines as I can possibly have out at one time (using smoke grenade to make sure none of the foes see me), back up, drop gun drone, hit Aim, then use Rain of Arrows to pull the whole mob into the mine field. Thanks to your advice, I'm going to have to modify that slightly... mine field, smoke grenade, time bomb, back up, and then either rain of arrows or targeting drone.. you can't get both off before time bomb goes off. But between time bomb, rain of arrows and the mine field, there probably won't be anyone left for the gun drone to attack!

Truth: There are powers that are so incredibly redundant that they fail in concept with other powers in the same set, and as such are useless in all manner by anyone with any degree whatsoever of common sense.

    Case in point:
    • Time Bomb. 8s interrupt, 360s recharge, 26 end, always explodes in 15 seconds. Available in Traps, level 38.
    • Trip Mine. 4s interrupt, 20s recharge, 13 end, explodes when a mob is on top of it. Available in Traps, level 35.
If you don't think Time Bomb is completely and utterly useless considering there is another power that does the exact same job - much better, more often, for less endurance, within the same powerset, available 3 levels sooner - then I really question your sanity.
No need to question it, I am quite crazy. However, I don't find Time Bomb useless. It's not as good as Trip Mine, to be sure, but it's not useless. It's just an extra explosion in the mass of explosions into which I draw my foes. It's difficult to get the timing right, but not impossible. I love my Arch/Dev blaster as much as I love my Ice/Ice blaster and for the same reason: they both play like high damage pseudo controllers.

Oh, and you forgot a couple of numbers..

Base Damage - Trip Mine 194.6 (unenhanced, per mids) .. with 2 L.45 DMG IOs: 350
Base Damage - Time Bomb 278.1 (unenhanced, per mids) .. with 2 L.45 DMG IOs: 500.2

Also, Trip Mine is available at 28, not 35 - Time Bomb is available at 35.

    Great uses for Time Bomb:
    - Against AVs, because you can be fairly sure the fight will last longer than 15 seconds
    - About 10 seconds before the cyst goes down in the 2nd mish of the ITF - you may put it in totally the wrong spot, but if you guess correctly you can do massive damage to the ambushes
    - Any time there are massive amounts of foes, such as a mothership raid, because *someone* is going to be there 15 seconds from now

Smaller characters do all animations faster. Have a small toon stand next to a larger one and have both of them do the same emote - any (looping) emote (such as jumping jacks, warm up, or even just standing there), the small toon does it faster.

Truth: Maybe Choking Cloud just doesn't fit your play style, or it doesn't do what you expected it to do, or it doesn't fit your build, but overall it's an awesome power and can be slotted with some really useful sets, can prevent enemies from attacking, reduces incoming damage by occasionally mezzing foes, and holds several procs.
