Totally with you on the Frankenslotting , although recently I've been using 5 Sting of the Manticore [not the proc] and 1 Extreme Measures (one of the two with Interrupt, but I forget which now) to get the 5-slot Manticore bonus but still flesh out the enhancement a bit more, especially the interrupt.
My argument is not "fewer sets for Snipes!" but "hey, the Targeted AoE users want more sets for Frankenslotting too!" -
Quote:Say what?Since they're the caster, not you, the 20% debuff isn't effected by the Purple Patch.
Yow. That sounds nice. Is that mechanic used by (some/any) other debuffs too, or is it unique (so far) to Bruising? -
Quote:Are you applying that same standard to the Dark and Elec Tankers in your list?Really? Show me an invuln build that is soft-capped and doesn't lose out on damage and recharge.
Quote:By soft-cap, I mean soft-cap to all except Psi, not just s/l.
Regarding Fire...you might be surprised. -
Sounds like you could use some gaming buddies; leveling usually goes faster in groups. Have you looked in the global channels on your server? Great way to join task forces, and the levels really roll in when you're running TFs...plus you have a chance to meet cool people you can add to your friends lists.

DP/Energy Blaster could at least blap a few people to simulate punching.
You really ought to run the Negotiator badge mission and make that his badge. -
Agreed -- if we are ignoring aggro-holding and just sticking to durability, I'd rate WP roughly equal to Inv. I personally consider it slightly less strong for certain encounters, but really it's stronger for other encounters, and in any case they're close enough that player preference will make more difference than the narrow statistical gap I am claiming exists.

Quote:I think I'm with Sam on this.Going by the thread title, for me this is a hard question to answer, and for a simple reason - both concepts are intertwined in my head. Let me explain.
I define "cool" not as something that specifically LOOKS cool, but something which generally FEELS cool, and "feels" is a very abstract concept. When it comes to powers, the coolest ones to me are the powers I feel like I want to use the most. I'm not talking about a conscious decision that "this is a good power, I want to use it," no. It's kind of like smelling your favourite food and feeling like you want to have some. There are certain powers that I feel this about.
So what makes said powers cool? Well... To be honest, performance, to a large extent. I don't know if this makes me suggestible or observant, but the more useful a power is, the more it tends to grow on me, and the more I start associating its look, sound and "feel" with good memories and good emotions. For instance, Blaze is probably one of the least interesting, least inspiring visuals in the entire game, yet the power is so good that I've grown to adore that tiny little devastating fireball, to the point that it soured me on all other Blasters who had nothing of the sort (which is why I no longer play them). By contrast, a very cool-looking power may start out impressing me, but once my sixth sense realises it's next to pointless to use it, I end up feeling reluctant to try it, and I start associating its visuals with bad memories and negative emotions. -
That's brilliant. Stone Tankers don't appear to need any -knb, since they have TWO status protection powers (Granite and Rooted), but both of those slow you, and sooner or later most Stone Tankers turn them off to run to a new position -- a knockback protection IO would be very nice when doing that.

I kinda like snipes. I kinda like snipe sets. Sometimes I'll slot a snipe set.*
*Not Calibrated Accuracy.
But I sure don't get why there are more snipe sets than there are (non-Purple) Targeted AoE sets.
Holy cow, Targeted AoEs are among the most popular powers in the game and many builds have more then one of them.
Here's something else weird though -- people are way too infatuated with snipers in real life, too. In online discussions of bravery in war, people always bring up snipers, the guys who shoot unsuspecting targets from hiding. No disrespect meant to snipers,* it can be an important role, but I'm surprised people prattle on about the "bravery" involved.
*yet
My Dad, however, did lack respect for snipers. He served in World War II, infantry, European theater, and he said that everybody he knew in the war detested snipers, even ones on their own side. The reason was simple -- everyone felt the war itself would be decided by big attacks. Sniping didn't have any measurable effect on the outcome of such events; it just contributed to the day-to-day trickle of deaths, even during "quiet" periods, that embittered both sides, without any chance* of actually determining the war and letting everyone go home.
*unless Hitler stuck his head up, I guess
Hollywood likes snipers too -- I guess it's easier to identify with one individual than with just another helmet hunkered down in a foxhole. And they do have their place, probably moreso in modern "asymmetric" warfare, antiterrorism, and so on. But movies tend to make it seem like one guy with a telescopic sight decides all wars -- not the 25,000 guys hauling artillery shells, or an entire infantry division. -
Heh -- I misread this as "I planned on teaming ugly" and immediately thought, "Hey, I've teamed ugly!" before I realized my error.

Don't you have to have Going Rogue to spend A-merits?

Eh, the OP is a WP Scrapper with a hit point boost and 80% defense (thanks to Divine Avalanche). I thought that was hardier than a Fire Scrapper. Still not hardy enough?
And don't Scrappers do more damage than Tankers? Where are all the "Tankers don't do any damage" people in this thread? :P -
Quote:Accuracy.
Kinetic Combat only has one piece that offers accuracy enhancement. I usually go with the Acc/Dam/Rech pieces from two different sets, unless there is another IO that would work in it (like the Achille's Heel proc for example).Quote:I like to use either 2 mako's bite for enhancement value or 2 pounding slugfest for +regen depending on my build goals.
Focused Smite has both of those -- Acc/Dam/Rech and Acc/End/Rech -- at better prices, if the levels you have still get you to the ED caps. -
Total hijack -- the character in your avatar (Presumably "the" Steel Mountain himself) looks a lot like my own Ironclad, although the pic is pretty small.

Well, my Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker usually has to kill her way out of crowds of Romans while they chew up her defense (from set IOs), using the old, much-maligned "offense makes up for lower defenses" method. I'd think a Scrapper would be even better at "out-killing" the Romans.

Quote:It might not be obvious because the Guides list says it's from Issue 13, but Call Me Awesome's Invulnerability guide is one of the few that's still up-to-date and it's easy to follow when choosing IO sets.just wondering what is a good invuln/ss build that i could use as a reference point including enhancements. i looked in the player guides but those seem to be concept builds instead of end game builds, so just wondering if anyone could help me out with some pointers.

See if that helps you. -
Reading this, I can't be sure if you know this, but Sleet's firing rapidly does not mean the Achilles proc has many chances to fire -- it checks once every 10 seconds, regardless of what Sleet is doing otherwise.
-
Hey, yeah, Fire Tankers who feel squishy on the ITF could try acquiring the Kinetic Dampener temp power. The few times I've used it it seemed like a very nice addition.
-
Further obscuring this issue, I believe that when you're actually on the screen where you redeem A-merits, you won't see anything on the list you don't have enough merits to buy. So few people will see the purple or pvp recipe costs on the list, and may not realize they're even available.

Procs activate slowly in auras (every 10 seconds). use only if well-frankenslotted and have slot(s) left over.
Multistrike is decent for positional defense. If not going for positional defense, or if you're already soft-capped, frankenslot. On SOs, 2 end, 1 acc, 3 damage; but frankenslotting is cheap and easy (well, it used to be cheap) and very effective.
Damage auras are a good thing over the long term; don't skimp on slotting them.
Pro tip: every toggle power that does damage is a very efficient use of your animation time. People spend billions to shave their attack chains down to eliminate tenths of a second, and people are always lobbying to have their favorite click attack power's animation time reduced...but damage auras never use any in-combat animation time at all. The ultimate in efficient use of time -- you can even do damage with them if you're standing there trying to figure out what else to click. You can literally kill things while AFK.
