If I understand what Arcanaville said above, Burn auto-hits in order to generate the pseudo-pet, but then rolls a second set of hit checks after the auto-hit and the damage itself is dependent on those hit checks. So it's not auto-hit per se (except for a game mechanic that's hidden from players), and still does need to roll to damage targets. That sounds consistent with your experience.

Quote:You think my post had an attitude? Here's how you "asked for help":Well I got the numbers from someone who said they were reading me the right thing. And I was asking for help from this forum to understand any changes, if they exist how to adjust to them. That was my intent.
Most people that play the game don't use the forums, and I can see why if the general rule is to reply with a snide put-down like you did, Sailboat. If you'll notice, the other posters disagreed with me but weren't snide. So now I know the base recovery may not have changed for most characters, if not all, from the helpful posts -- none of which were yours, Sailboat.
Quote:issues I'm seeing
(and it seems like the issues may have started in i18)
So, now I know
What was done
Why would the developers pretend to "give us" something
but in a stealth way actually take it away
Why should I have to rely on something I may not want
Is this a way to make toons weaker
Also, a gripe I have
my work was thrown up in the air, now I'm picking up the pieces.
I guess it's just "their game" and they can tweak whatever they want, eh? There's always the power of "unsubscribing"
I would like to know the reasoning behind this
quite a few do when such issues weren't around before.
I think it's a "stealth" change in that I can't seem to find more concrete information about it.
"That grinds my gears".
Note my own qualifiers -- I'm not stating definitely that it didn't happen, because I'm not God, or Arcanaville (who, incidentally, DOES have a reputation for firm understanding of the game's numbers sufficient to make absolute statements like she did), or you. But I certainly haven't noticed anything like this in game or forums...and yet:
Quote:the forums see a _lot_ of people who believe that "stat X" has changed between issues and almost without fail they are accompanied with the claim that "many others outside the forum are having the same problem" hence why the default reaction is to ask for screenshots of real numbers and suggest that the poster re-checks.
If it does turn out to be a real problem, rant about it after confirmation.
And, by the way, I love big dogs too. -
Hey, is this new with I20? Has it been discussed from beta and I just missed that? The set bonus list in character descriptions is now organized...it says "Large Health Bonus x4, Small Recharge Bonus x2" and so on. Neat!
Kudos to the team for this one. -
Ah, never mind, it...uh...went away after rebooting. Never mind this was the first character I logged into after cold-booting, which is not unlike rebooting.
-
These have always been plain white "tights" on monstrous legs, with no pattern applied. Suddenly in Issue 20 I am seeing horizontal blue barring:
This appears to be only affecting the "tights" option -- I can "fix" it by using "smooth" tights or "sleek" tights. But i want the look with the muscles (not smooth) but not shiny (not sleek.) Is this a bug others are seeing? Is it my graphics? Can we get it fixed? -

Which one has the best costume and biography?

The general rule when you find something extraordinary, that makes no sense, that immediately frustrates you, that seems new, and that no one else has described, mentioned, or experienced is this: it might not be happening. Double- and triple-check it and then, in my opinion, it's still smarter to ask about it on the forums than assert it as fact.

A luck charm is 8 AE tickets. You might have to roll a few times, but you'll get other salable stuff with those rolls.
-
Well, it's very impressive to do +4 x8, especially on a squishy. You may be expecting too much. The Apex opponents are supposed to be hard. The ITF Romans resist your mezz once they've activated a power, I believe -- try mezzing them by complete surprise before they can activate it.
It's not too hard to mezz a few opponents, especially when you open up on them before they're aggroed. More opponents implies more teammates, and they can help you with those, or that you've turned up the difficulty...which may be more difficult. -
Quote:Behold.Wait what? When did they change this? Last I had heard (granted I don't keep up to date with travel power changes) the only change to flight was raising it's speed cap, not that it automagically reaches it without slotting.
-
Quote:Eh, what about the risk that if the Devs announce "we're unlocking the longer-term vet rewards because the game probably won't last much longer," new players will ALSO lose interest?Vet Rewards that show up after 3 years are pretty much unattainable for new players. I really doubt this game will be around then. More likely, we will be on CoH2 (at least I hope so). CoH has already bucked the trend by lasting this long. New players will assume they just can't get any long-term vet rewards, and that will make them less interested in the game.

Quote:Now that Flight is speed-capped without anything in the slot, you can place the BOTZ -KNB in there without losing any speed. If you don't plan on flying while fighting (or if you have Hover for that) you don't care about end cost anyway, and it's effectively free in terms of build compromises (although not in terms of money). You can slap a BotZ in your travel power, so you don't have to use up a slot in one of your toggles for it. The Karma and Steadfast -KB IOs don't actually enhance the resistance or defense of the power they're in. The BotZ doesn't enhance travel speed either, but if you have Super Jump or Super Speed the base speed should be good enough. BotZ can't go in Sprint.
I think you can get Steadfast -knb with Alignment merits too -- IIRC, it's an exception to the "rares only" rule. -

When forming a team, I often open other characters' info windows and look at their set bonuses while I'm waiting for the team to assemble.
It's never occurred to me to do anything about what I see -- I'm doing it solely out of curiosity. The character description/bio is usually much more interesting...and interestingly enough, although I can't remember doing it, I am prepared to kick someone from the team based on their bio, if it was something horribly racist, for example.
Quote:Well, we can try to quantify the monetary equivalent of buffing damage to the cap. A complete Obliteration set costs how much, these days? And it gives 3% bonus to damage. Okay, most ATs cap damage at 400%, or roughly an additional +300% on top of enhancements. Most other buffs, heals, debuffs, Controls, and similar, cannot be quantified in monetary terms because there are no IO set bonuses that compare with confusing an entire spawn, flooring their resistance, and buffing your damage to the cap.
So multiply the cost of a complete Oblit set by 100. And then multiply it again by the number of players on the team. Simple!
Never seen that. I have seen people snickered at in private for bizarre builds (tanks without status protection, four travel powers, etc.) but never for insufficient set bonuses. Maybe I'm just on several good servers? -
Quote:I sense the problem.lol, was on now for 4 hours with a lvl12 char, 9 ppl < lvl 20 on and only 2 of them wanted to start a team, but only for half an hour.
Are you looking for other players to start the team and lead it for you? Are you leading teams? -
It already is true -- it's better than your idea, as I pointed out.

Quote:Just off the top of my head: I'd one-slot OWTS and use the slots to finish six-slotting my attacks. Parry could use more slots too -- slot some damage in there too, you'll be using it in your attack chain. Steal the resistance slots from True Grit (not the heal ones!) or some slots frpom Physical Perfection if you need more. Use one slot in a resist power to stick a Steadfast protection 3% defense IO (buy a low level one with alignment merits). Move Phalanx Fighting earlier if you can (maybe switching it with Grant Cover?); it's free defense that dwarfs the defense from the extra slot you put into hover.Hello all, I found this post very helpful but these enhance thingys and sets still confuse me. I have not played CoH for about three years. Alot has changed. Anyway, I came up with this build and I would like some feedback.
Few things about my build:
1> She is a valkyrie, so of course, she must fly.
2> She is a robot, so lazer eye are cool!!
3> I would like to solo missions at say +1 my level, but also be fun in teams.
I am currently level 44 and having a blast with her. I have a free respec but am scared to use it before I know what I am doing. Is this a build I can play with SOs at first and then move to better stuff in the future without having to respec?
The extra heals in Physical Perfection are half the value they'd be in Health, by the way. -
Quote:Sometimes I wish this were true. Today is Friday, and some shopping and crafting I wanted to do Monday is still undone because every time I log on I get tells from people asking me to join them. Last night I snuck back on after bedtime just to buy the first DOs for a character who'd finally hit 12, and before my screen loaded I had a tell from someone who wanted to play for a bit. (I grabbed the DOs real fast and we knocked out some missions in an arc we shared).Nowadays some of the Servers are so empty that you have to solo most of the time.
Quote:Maybe an Assault-Pool....4 Attackpowers to bridge the time till you get some Attacks or are in a Levelrange where you can find more teams.
...
Maybe some sorts of Throwing Knives and Grenades using Lethal/Smashing Damage and not so powerfull like the Epic pool Attacks. So they are more usefull in lower levels where these Damagetypes are not so resisted and have not so much use for Players who have acces to Epic Pools and lvl38 Powers....only a little help for Powersets which lack Attacks to solo efficiently.
Inexpensive and readily available. You can make them again and again. Yes, they're on charges, but you can get several different kinds of attacks, so that you don't have to return and craft again too soon. The list even includes knives and grenades! Just what you wanted. -
Think of it this way: if you don't have an empty inspiration slot, you're losing drops. After keeping a certain minimum number of specific one for crises, I try to have 1-3 slots open any time an enemy is defeated so I can vacuum up new inspires.
I have come to think of the open slots as a strength, not as something missing -- those open slots represent inspirations actually in play on my character during combat. If you keep using them as they drop, it's kind of like a toggle power that costs no end* and randomly rotates between various effects.
*Note that it does cost some clicks, some animation time, and some of your decision cycles. -
-
Well, I do have the Day Job teammate rez power. Go ahead.
-
I agree.

Quote:Yes! I find that being cautious before the enemy aggros helps, but, once the fight starts, going all-out aggressive gives me much better results than playing conservatively or indecisively. I want to deliver big hurt on things fast. Hesitating or mis-clicking can be costly; after I come back from the hospital, the exact same fight can be won by jumping the heck out of the enemy very aggressively (hitting the buildup-type powers and unloading the heavy stuff and controls as fast as I can on the right choice of targets) -- often without taking any damage in return at all.^^
This a hundred times over.
Learn the Mantra. Learn the Motto. Kill 'em before they kill you.
Quote:1) In groups, do not open with an AOE until you have some sort of mitigation. It will attract to much aggro. This is the same thing with AT's who use AOE imobs. Opening with either is getting the alpha on you.
Regarding that, slot up your first two primary attacks. You'll use them a lot, and you should slot what you'll use.
Not only are they good for rapid chaining, they will be less likely than your big-hitters to drag aggro off some melee teammate, so you can use them safely in dangerous situations, AND best of all you can still cycle them while held, slept, or stunned, unlike your "better" attacks.
Many times I've been perma-held while solo, but by rapdily alternating the Tier 1 and Tier 2 ranged attacks, systematically chewed through the defense of the bad guy holding me and won the fight.
