That last one is what I call the "safety mine."
  2. How slowly do you kill? Unless something stays a live for long enough to recycle attacks, the recharge slow isn't helping much.

Something you need to keep in mind is, once a new issue is released on the test server for closed or open beta, the development team cannot sit back and wait for something to do. There is always something to do. It never ends.

I would like the ability to put a hot link in as my toon's description, so that if someone clicked on it, they would be taken directly to my personal home page, where I could have flat text, line breaks, HTML, pictures, or even a 500-page life story for my toon if I wanted. CoH wouldn't have to worry about storage space this way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wouldn't there be the issue of accidentally hitting the hotlink while in combat? Let's say, you're standing around looking at a description and an ambush arrives. You try to close the description, hit the hotlink by accident, and you are defeated while loading 500 pages of catgirl RP.

Trip Mines will set off the Time Bomb...

Really? I'd be surprised if anything other than the 15-second (I think that's the length) timer caused it to detonate.

Yeah, he's 39 or 40. But I'm respeccing anyway so I could move it earlier for exemplaring (I do a lot of exemplaring).

I'd be willing to take it very early, like 8, but am loathe to give up any of the other things I get early. I guess no miraculous build plan will allow that. Thus my "pull rabbits out of hats" comment. I may have to bite the bullet and take it at 28 like you say.

Well when you hit the 5 year reward you can take a travel power at 6 and skip the prerequisite I do not hit it until fall

That would work, except that Combat Jumping is my Immobilize protection, isn't it?

I got that. What I didn't get was how he apparently got from color customization to "Scrappers need more epic pools."

Look, I'm with you on Scrappers wanting more choices for epics, despite the fact that Scrappers are one of the best-balanced ATs and generally have few complaints.

But thousands of players have been begging for color customization for years. Imagine the reverse of this complaint: "Color customization was possible this issue, but we've pushed it back indefinitely to add a Scrapper epic pool." People would go nuts, and rightly so.

Scrappers will probably get more epic choices eventually. In the meantime, it ill behooves us to use everyone else's moment of great joy to air a complaint about what's already one of the best-designed ATs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whoa... I just asked a question about what people think the odds of this issue giving both. As I said earlier, I'm looking forward to this as well. No flames or doom cries over here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Point taken. I might be a little jumpy with the DOOM KLAXON going off so regularly. I too hope for more options for Scrapper APPs.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
If you are looking for something that is super survivable and are willing to sacrifice damage to get it I would say go Stone/Ice. You'll never do alot of damage but you will be an aggro magnet and with the right slotting you'll be damn near unkillable even without Granite up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, yeah. The absolute hardest-to-kill monsters in the game are Stone/Ice and Stone/Dark. I'm hard-pressed to pick which is tops, it kind of depends on the enemies at the moment. But neither is a damage dealer in any real sense, and they're thin in the AoE department too. Making one is a conscious choice to be an anvil, not a hammer.
  11. Thanks.

    [ QUOTE ]
Starting from scratch, I would have gone with Pounding Slugfest and use different pieces from Kinetic Combat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only piece of KC I didn't use was the knockdown proc. I assume slotting it isn't what you had in mind if you think (non-purple) damage procs are shabby... Can you elaborate?
  12. I have to say that my Inv/SS soft-cap experiment has had hardly any trouble at all with Psi. I am running just over 13% defense vs. Psi and some unknown but probably slightly higher ranged defense (which might count against some Psi attacks). My regen is sadly neglected (ran out of slots!) too; you'll do better with a high regen than I do. Despite this I've faced the Psi Clockwork King mission without faceplanting. I watched my life carefully and was surprised that I did okay -- Foot Stomp plus some Blasters on the team limited my exposure to repeated attacks. I haven't fought a lot of Carnies yet, purely by accident, but I did survive a Rikti ship raid pretty well -- I went down once when everyone else went down, facing +4s and +5s at the time, but held out the rest of the time with judicious consumption of green inspirations and good ol' Dull Pain.

You can also partake in Ritki invasions to get the accolade -- it gives a brief boost to Psi defense and resistance, perfect for facing down one big psi foe like the Psi Clockwork King.
  13. Oh yeah, I have one -knb IO slotted and another one or two lying around I can throw in, thanks. I plan on lots of frankenslotting for end reduction too. This is an old pre-IO character, around 40, now being kitted out with shiny IOs.
  14. Thanks for the answers so far.

  15. My Inv/SS currently has slotted Jab with 4 level 35 Kinetic Combats for 21% Acc, 87% damage, 41% end and 41% recharge.

I can add 1 or 2 slots to Jab (the second would be free if I give up 4-slotting Rage for to-hit and recharge, and just throw the recharges in it. I can't get Rage's recharge to the ED soft-cap with 3 slots using to-hit buff sets; gotta use plain IOs for that, or at least 4 slots).

I will have some global +acc and to-hit boosts from both Rage and Invincibility, so I'm not too worried about the low accuracy.

I can throw in a Mako's quad (I have a 45 on hand and can probably buy a 50 since I won't get set bonuses for it anyway) and then maybe a common end IO.

Am I right in assuming that reducing the end cost of Jab is useful to my overall end situation because I use it so many times a minute, even though the base end cost is small?

I could alternatively throw in a proc; maybe the Mako's quad (to bump damage up to the ED cap) and then Hecatomb's damage proc. Would that "save endurance" by killing faster, since the proc doesn't use end when it fires? Or am I better off maximizing the end reduction enhancement?

I'm not much of an expert on HOs, but here's a thought: would three Membrane Exposures (to-hit buff+20%, recharge +33%) be good in Rage? Would the recharge be sufficient after ED? That would allow me to put that last slot in Jab and still get some to-hit enhancement out of Rage.
  16. Here's my layout for a basic PVE Spines/Dark build. I want to get the defensive powers of Dark Regeneration, Tough, and Oppressive Gloom as early as is reasonable for survivability. Despite my interest in making the character survivable, my IO build will focus on +recharge (to keep Dark Regen available and to resist slows somewhat) and +regen, not necessarily defense bonuses (I've just built two soft-capped defense characters and I want to do this one differently).

This build captures all the things I want...except it winds up forcing Build Up to be very late. I like Build Up and I know burst damage is helpful; I just balk at replacing any of the earlier powers to take Build Up sooner.

    +---------------------------------------------

I guess I could take Build Up at 28 and bump Tough to 38, but I really hate to take it so late. I can make myself get by without Build Up to have the powers I want, and enjoy adding BU as the final touch, so to speak, but when I exemplar down I recognize how much it would help in the lower levels.

Any suggestions or rabbits pulled out of hats are welcomed.
  17. I like my Archery/Dev Blaster for the concept and the powers. I happen to love Trip Mines and even use Time Bomb on occasion.

But the more I learn about the way the powers work, the more I hesitate to invest in IOs for the character.

Apparently a lot of the powers are pseudo-pets. Rain of Arrows, Trip Mine, Time Bomb, Auto Turret, maybe even Caltrops?

I think these powers do not benefit from some or all of my buffs and set bonuses, because they're psuedo-pets.

    1) are there other pseudo-pet powers that I've missed in my rundown?

    2) are all these pseudo-pets treated the same for the purpose of getting buffs, self-buffs, and set bonuses?

    3) do they get the self buffs, like Aim? Rain of Arrows certainly does...do Trip Mines get it? Only if they go off during the buff period? Only if they were set during it?

    4) do they get the self buffing toggle, Targeting Drone? (I'm guessing not).

    5) do they get external buffs, like Accelerate Metabolism and Fortitude? if so, it's to damage only, or at least they don't get recharge rate buffs to their rate of attack (Auto Turret), right?

    6) do they get the benefit of inspirations?

    7) do they get global set bonuses like +damage?

    8) do they get accuracy set bonuses? To-hit (like the Kismet unique)? Damage? I understand they can be recast faster with +recharge bonuses, but I don't think those increase their attack rate any more.

Thanks for any insight you can provide. I'd hate to spend a lot on IO sets that aren't doing anything for many of my main powers.

I'm a bit of an alt addict and I'm trying to cut that down...

    [/ QUOTE ]

One question, why? CoX is an extremely alt friendly game due to its quick leveling speed and emphasis on not restricting content by level. While finding an AT/powerset combo that you really enjoy is great there's no reason not to roll up a bunch of toons.

    <Snip>

It may just be that you'd have more success switching around whenever the mood suits you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Concur. When you say you like healing, love summoning, like damage and soloing, and want to be desired on teams, that screams different ATs to me. Then you say you like alts -- that's the solution!

Make something with a lot of summoning and healing (Ill/Emp Controller or Thugs/Pain Mastermind, for example) that'll be wanted on teams, and also make a Scrapper.
  21. I'm almost certain that it'll only be color customization, not a whole lot of new animations added to the game. They'll probably even call it something like "color customization," to emphasize that it's not full customization. I could certainly be wrong, but it's been hard enough for them to do the color customization alone; I'd be surprised if they went to the vastly greater trouble of re-imagining and creating hundreds of new animations.

  24. I'm not making a suggestion to the Devs, that was more of a grumble than anything. The reason I made this thread is I've been spending a LOT fo time on the forums and I've never seen any reference to this room at all -- it was a complete surprise. I'm interested in whether it's widely known and just not talked about, or what. That seems weird, given how much talk there's been about power spamming.

So, have you seen this area? Heard about it? Used it?
