Hey all! I'm thinking of attempting a base that would essentially try to be a small back street at night with various bars and shops along the way.
Has anyone tried anything like this? Does anyone have examples of outdoor settings within a base?
Side Note: I'll only have about 3 million prestige to work with, so I can't do anything elaborate and will probably be relying on 2x2 rooms. -
Oh totally! Which is why I'm looking for 2 million or more prestige in an old SG. I at least want to break even, but more is fine. Besides, I'd much rather give out the influence to a fellow player than a evil, inf-hoarding NPC.
-
Quote:Good question! Well, the reason I'm not just going out, making a new SG and dropping a billion influence is because the exchange rate is so crappy and I'd much rather see the hard-earned influence go to something useful for a fellow player. What amount of prestige are you looking for/starting at? IE, how much prestige are you looking for, to make the SG purchase a viable option?
My price range is 1-2 billion (2 billion being the high end if there's loads of prestige, but considering the RP purposes of the base my ideal number is closer to 1 billion). To make that viable compared to simply buying prestige at cost, it'd have to be at least 2-4 million prestige. -
Hey all!
The Codex is looking to do some huge renovations on the old homestead, so while I'm chipping away at the massive overhaul, I'm trying to find an old SG with decent prestige to use to create a bar or club for the Codex masses to RP in. (After all, we're all about the RP!)
So here's what I'm looking for: an old, unused SG with a decent bar/club name with a decent amount of prestige. Either post here or PM me to talk price. I've got a fair bit of inf to spend, so mainly I'm just looking to make sure it's cost-effective.
Thanks Virtue! :-) -
When they balance the various powersets, is redraw factored in?
-
The Codex is a solid RP SG that's pretty active right now. Check out the link in my sig and see if the theme would work for you. :-)
-
Well, check out the Codex! We're really active on Virtue right now, and have plenty of stories and impromtu teams and meetings going on daily.
We're well established and really couldn't care about making the top SG list, so no threats of prestige grinding here.
We do want a costume, but it's really up to your own personal wardrobe choices. Only the coloring is important. :-)
Follow the link in my sig and give us a look. We are heavily themed so we might not fit all character concepts, but we take characters of all levels and always welcome fellow RPers. :-) -
Hey! The Codex is a themed RP-SG that's pretty active! We even have a huge story starting up this week that all members can get in on... check us out by following the link in my sig.

Agreed, but it seems less likely.
As a random aside, I don't recall who came up with it, but the best solution I've heard to the whole "new members will never earn the later vet rewards" issue is to earn veteran merits, and we PICK which bonuses we want. Honestly? I love that option. The older vets get everything still and the newer members get the bits that interest them the most. -
Valid points! Honestly, I'm at the 5-year mark myself. I really couldn't care less about the exclusivity of content... make it available to everyone for all I care. I'd be just as happy with having the cape and aura missions available earlier. Of the two options, though - vet reward or those missions available by level 10 to all - I figured vet reward was more likely.
-
Okay, my search-fu is weak before my coffee... so bear with me.
I'm not usually one to make suggestions regarding... well, anything. The devs have much more experience than I, so I humbly bow to their wisdom. There's one "perk", however, that I'd love to see added to the vet reward pipeline.
IMHO, it'd be great if veteran players could use all available capes and auras at level 1. There have been many times where I've had a character concept that doesn't work without auras, so I've had to grind up to 30 (okay, not that hard to do) before I can really "play" the concept. I totally understand the intent of having capes and auras be earned as a hero progresses, but for someone who's done the missions 30 or so times over the span of 5 or more years, it might be a nice reward to skip it and get these costume options early.
Anyway, just a thought. -
As an Ice/Ice was my first 50 and this is the blaster forums, I would argue that playing dominators feels a bit like an Ice/Ice Blaster. :P
-
It's an interesting point, certainly.
This applies to smaller scales of RP, even. If you're walking through the Pocket D and you find a ninja vampire demon trying to disembowel a naive young hero, many characters might find it hard to ignore it and walk on by.
Big or small, there will always be cases where our characters simply can't ignore what's going on around them. But I would agree... the bigger the "impact" an event has on a shared RP resource, such as thousands of kids inside of Paragon, the more effort the instigating RPer should make to consider public response before starting the event.
However, as Techbot points out, even if people don't like it, they will just ignore it anyhow. :P -
There's plenty of RP SGs in all shapes and sizes. Emperor Justin is correct... you first want to sit down and think of what kind of RP SG would be right for you. Do you like to do some forum RP mixed in with IG RP? Are you looking for a small or large group? Heavily themed or open to most sorts? Answering these sorts of questions will help you narrow things down.
Once you do, I'd recommend taking a look at the current Virtue Super Group Directory. There's also a Villain Group Directory if that's more to your style (it's not, though! :P).
As one of the leads of the Codex, we're of course always looking for more driven RPers to flesh out our ranks. We're heavily themed, focusing on deep story lines and character development. Check us out at www.CodexHeroes.com if you'd like to see if we're a good fit for you. However, make sure you shop around! There's plenty of wonderful RP SG's out there. -
A friend of mine has a character in our SG who's become a bit of a fan favorite. It's a little alien being sheltered here on earth. She loves chocolate ("Chorat") and genuinely tries to find the best in everyone. Her nativity might get her into awkward situations from time to time, but when she's sad the whole SG rushes to cheer her up. I ask you...
... can you blame them?
This artwork isn't mine (the character's creator made it), but I just had to share. Hope you enjoy! -
Currently Recruiting: We are always welcome to new members of all skill levels. Currently we have an unprecedented level of opportunity for new characters to fully immerse themselves in our story arcs and help shape the Codex's future.
RP Level: We are a heavy RP supergroup with an ongoing plotline. Both the SG and coalition channels are IC. We have an active OOC channel as well to form teams and chat in general.
PvP Level: Casual, but we have been known to host arena events for fun.
Theme/Concept: A secret society who works in relative anonymity to subtly shift the balance of power. The Paragon chapter is one of several around the world, all dedicated to making the world a better place through precise, critical strikes. Few outside the Codex know that the group exists - or at least that's how it should be. Recently, outside forces have begun to circle in on the group, and it is up to the members to unravel the mystery of their origins before they are exposed to the world... or worse.
With a recent shift in leadership (IC, not OOC!) and the realization of some of their worst fears, the members of the Codex are forced to face their inner demons as they discover what's brought them all together and, more importantly, why!
The Codex is all about toeing the line between right and wrong, and determining when the ends justify the means. Flawed characters are constantly put in the position to make their own moral choices that can have significant consequences on futures stories that unfold.
Activity: We have 30-40 characters from about 15-20 players. Our playerbase is multi-national, from the UK, Canada, the US, Australia and Japan, so there is usually someone on most times of the day.
Requirements for Membership: Must be interested in RP and willing to take initiative. We expect everyone to be on at least every 30 days. If you're interested, fill out an application on our site. Be sure to read the format, as it's a rather unique application.
Leadership: Spellknight and Willowshot
In-Game Contact(s): @sadronmeldir and @Lion-Hearted
Out-of-Game Contact(s): Send us an email at CodexHeroes@gmail.com or check our site for details.
URL: www.CodexHeroes.com
Coalition(s): The Codex is a member of a closed IC coalition.
Other Details: We have an amazing RP base known as the Sanctuary, hidden behind a library in Founder's Falls! It is fully functional and our pride and joy. Tours are available!
Additionally, we schedule nearly weekly events and story arcs on our forums for members to enjoy and partake in.
A veteran SG of many years, we're at the cusp of new IC management (OOC, it's the same people). This means that you won't feel too lost with out lore and it's the perfect time to start if you want to grow to contribute to the SG as a member or a seasoned officer. Check us out!

I'm having issues with channel names with spaces enclosed within an option. For example...
Option "&5 VU2010" "beginchat /send "Virtue LFG Alpha" [$name, $level $archetype]: "
...stops at the send. Is there any way to get around this? -
Hey Brutus!
The Codex is always welcoming new members. We're very RP-intensive. Give us a look at www.codexheroes.com -
Vitality, why do you keep posting new threads on the same topic?

Yeah didn't realize someone jumped the gun before Feb 1st. Ah well!
I'd requested the thread stickied, but I'll have it undone ASAP -
((moved to the new thread))

Moved this to merge with the thread started a few days before. Sorry I missed it!

Quote:Technically, if I'm doing the conversion right, 250 influence will buy 1/2 a prestige, which is what is used for your base upkeep. If you'd bought your base upkeep prestige with influence, it'd cost you 2,400,000 influence. Meaning that a single gift is about 0.01% of what you owe.Well my base rent is something like 4800 for a month.
So 250 is about 5% of that.
My house payment is $1800. 5% of that is $90.
So I guess my anology is wrong.
Its like someone gave you $100 and your snobbish because it wasn't $10,000.
But then again, buying prestige is a ripoff anyway.
