Honestly, you're right, I forgot about Rage. That being said, War Mace is still amazingly good. Good damage, good mitigation since most of the powers either have a chance to disorient or knockup.
-
Are freaking crazy!!
I read a post several days ago, recommending War Mace for Tanks. However, I decided to roll a War Mace Brute instead.
My 2 cents:
If you haven't tried War Mace, do it now! It is extremely powerful. I don't know why I haven't seen many people playing War Mace nor have I seen a lot of discussions regarding War Mace's, but if anything it's at least as strong as Super Strength, maybe even stronger.
If you've tried War Mace before, please post your 2 cents as well. -
I said "Brutes have a specific Taunt power, therefore it makes sense for them to use Taunt and hold aggro," because that specific Taunt power does not serve any other purpose besides grabbing and holding aggro. Brute also has a taunt effect in their attacks as well. In this case, A does mean B. Sure, you can grab and hold aggro with other powers, but that's not the point here.
-
No wrong or right answers here of course. Brutes have a specific Taunt power, therefore it makes sense for them to use Taunt and hold aggro. However, Brutes also have Fury, an inherent that pretty much says "keep opening that can of whoopa**"
Just sort of a poll-ish thread to see what most people consider a Brute as.
Do you look for a Brute whenever your team needs extra DPS?
Do you look for a Brute whenever your team needs someone who can soak up the damage?
Or maybe you just don't even look for a Brute in either circumstances :P -
Quote:I'll answer anyways. My Tank can control like Controllers/Dominators with the help of the APP.My question to the OP: Can tanker control like controllers/dominators? Can scrappers debuff mobs like corruptors, defenders, and controllers?
My Scrapper can definitely debuff like Corrs/Def/Controllers. In fact, my Scrapper is extremely good at debuffing the enemy's Health Bar. -
Quote:TL;DR version: Yes, Thunder Strike will always do more damage than Chain Induction from Hidden. In PvP, it definitely hits for TONS!Thunder Strike will do more damage to the primary target in one hit. To the primary target, it's base damage is 1.485 times as much, but the DPA is much lower since the animation is almost 3 times as long*, meaning that for a single-target DPS chain you wouldn't want to use it.
Chain Induction's damage jumps around and is specifically coded to not jump back to the original target, so it does Havoc Punch damage in a 1.188 second animation instead of Havoc Punch's 1.716 second one*.
From Hidden status, Thunder Strike has less of a lead since the energy portion of the damage (scale 0.96) only has a 50% chance to critical, but since the smashing portion does have a guaranteed critical from hidden status (of scale 1) it will do (scale 1 + 0.96 base damage, + 1 critical) 2.96 scale damage vs 2.64 scale for Chain Induction, and has a 50% chance to do scale 3.92 damage if the energy critical goes.
Note that these are PvE values - in PvP Thunder Strike hits like a truck and if both criticals go off does barely less damage than Assassin's Shock (iirc the base damage is under 2 pts less).
* - times accounting for server ticks instead of listed time - this shows the actual minimum time before another power can be used (3.43 sec for TS, others mentioned in text) assuming no lag or other network latency -
Reasonable question. Why so many round-about answers?
I shall +rep all of your posts while I wait for my team to zone in for a TF! -
Thanks for answering my question on Shadow Maul's crit guys, but now I got another question on that very subject.
When Shadow Maul crits, does the actual damage itself applies at the EXACT time when the orange "Crit" text pops up? If not, when does the damage apply? -
Who the hell cares? It's in-game context, not like it's anything important.
.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........... -
/Cold is definitely a great choice. It's pretty much a better /FF in my opinion. However, since your partner is a Blaster, Force Bubble may be extremely handy for you both. In case you don't know what it does, it's a toggle and basically puts a huge repel bubble around you.
I would still recommend /Cold, just because Heat Loss and especially Benumb's -regen is crucial if you 2 want to take on AV's by yourselves. -
Yea, no matter what anyone says, I still keep Shadow Maul in there. Of course, I don't use it until my Fury is 80+ but still, it definitely is powerful.
Now, on the Scrapper's and Stalker's version, each individual punch from Shadow Maul should have a chance to crit, that would definitely make it worthwhile! I've never made a Dark Melee Scrapper or Stalker though...if Shadow Maul does crit, does the crit text show up at the end of Shadow Maul or along with every tic? -
Like others have stated, you should probably prioritize slotting with tohit debuffs. You already have your own heal as a Dark, so there's really no need to slot Dark Servant for heal enhancements. In fact, you probably use your heal when you're in a risky situation, and I doubt Dark Servant is very dependable on healing you when you need it, therefore, no need to slot for heals.
I'm not sure about Dark Servant's accuracy/tohit, but if it's not exceptional I would slot some accuracy enhancements in there as well. -
Quote:Don't know what you're talking about. Both Stalkers and Scrappers get Earth Melee. The question is, are YOU smoking something? If you're going to want us to take you even half serious, you really should get your facts straight. Tanks don't get "Earth Melee" as a primary. Nor do they get the correctly named "Stone Melee" as a primary as it's a SECONDARY power for Tanks.
And Scrappers getting "Earth Melee"? What is it that you're smoking? I want to know so I can avoid being around someone who is...
Now Brutes on the other hand do get Stone Melee as a primary... maybe that's why you're all mixed up.
And FYI, the only reason I'm bothering to mention either of this is in case someone does come through and for one second thinks you're even partially correct... beyond that, your posts are pretty lame. But you knew that. -

Quote:Elec Armor would have a hole, until the addition of Energize came along. That 50% self heal and +200% regeneration isn't a joke. I do agree that resistance-based armors are amazing in that it is easy to soft-cap defense, whereas it's extremely difficult or possibly even impossible to cap resistance on a defense-based armor.Troll or not, you've made claims and I've refuted. Since we're on the internet, the only thing I have to go on to gauge your age is attitude, so I apologize if you're not really a kid.
I agree that many tanks can do equally well in certain scenarios. What I have trouble believing is that there are tanks who can do everything I've done. Everyone has a hole somewhere, but I've managed to plug all of mine. An easy improvement to my build would be to swap for stone melee to add knockdown as yet another layer of mitigation.
The resistance based armors in this game have the most potential because of how easy defense is to get. Multiple layers of mitigation do not improve survivability linearly, the effect is multiplicative. Elec is the only rival Dark has in my eyes. Dark's major advantage is Cloak of Darkness, which provides enough defense to easily softcap more positions/types. I like that Elec has a true godmode power, but I prefer Dark's tier nine. In the event that I do die, anything short of an AV with purple triangles is stunned and my team is still safe.
WP is also the other amazing Tanker primary I'd say. -
Yes, /Emp is generally very tight. That being said, I don't really recommend /Emp for you. It really depends on what your buddy is going Demon/???
If he's going with a secondary that has a heal, there's really no point for you to go /Emp.
Regardless of your primary, I would recommend going /Kin, for good ol' Fulcrum Shift. Fulcrum Shift + a bunch of Demons? Sounds fun to me. In fact, the only 2 secondaries you may want to avoid is Empathy and Storm. Although, Storm may work for you if you don't mind mobs flying all over the place and henchmen chasing them everywhere. -
Quote:I think you're taking this a little bit too personally, buddy. There's no need to call me a kid, in fact, if you're going to call me a kid, you better be well into your 60s.You know, it's always the kids who talk the biggest game that have nothing to show for themselves. Wonder why that is?
Put your numbers in a sheet here. We can compare.
Funny, I have two AoE powers and taunt as well. I managed to hold aggro on four AVs plus Reichsman from range. I agree that all the survivability in the world does not make you a tank. A tank who is the last man standing has failed.
I'm going to refer to the first thing I said in this post about children who talk big.
Anyhow, I'll put my numbers onto that sheet when I have the chance to.
If it makes you feel any better, I'll restate myself again. Of course I've seen your vid on YouTube. Obviously, from that vid, Dark Armor CAN tank. Did you believe me when I said that Dark Armor isn't capable of tanking ANYTHING? The part where I'm NOT trolling you is when I said that there are other primaries out there for Tankers that can do equally well, and possibly even better than Dark Armor with some investments. -
Here's a phail cat. Make sure to feed it and pet it and give it lots and lots of love!

Quote:Actually, I don't recommend going Fire/ Scrapper. Reason? Your only useful AoE is Fire Sword Circle, you don't really have anything else. If you want AoE, go with Spines for Scrapper. If you really want to stay within the Tanker Archetype, I would say Fire/Fire for the 2x BU and massive AoE's.With your friend playing such a defensive controller you might want to consider plaing a scrapper or possibly a blaster - I think somthing like a fire/shield scrapper would really synergize well with an earth/FF controller.
Personally, I would recommend going with a Scrapper. Any secondary you pick should be fine with Bubble's strong defense buffs, possibly even roll Spine/Fire or Spine/Elec. -
If you like buffing, go with /Kin, otherwise go with /Dark or /Rad. In my own opinion, I like Dark the best.
-
The problem isn't APP VS PPP, it's just that certain APP or PPP sucks and players will mainly stay with the 2 "best" epic pools within their Archetype.
-
Right off the bat, I'd say a Mastermind is probably what you want to roll. It's easy to solo most missions on SO's with as a Mastermind. Yes, it does take a little bit of skills but you're asking for a toon that would work well on just SO's and this is that toon.
I'd recommend anything/Dark but more specifically Thugs/Dark. Dark's got a ton of survivability and "OH CRAP!" buttons.
> Darkest Night will make everything pretty easy to handle.
> A strong AoE heal that will keep you and all your henchmen happy.
> An auto-hit Rez that AoE stuns everything around the target. It's also great for soloing AV's since it's got that -500% regeneration debuff.
> An AoE intangible power, Black Hole, just in case crap does hit the ceiling.
> A Fluffy pet that pretty much has half of your /Dark powers. -
Quote:It's not really a challenge when my Elec Armor Tank can do all that you've stated, and then some. Also, if you're not going to believe a thing I say, I don't see how I can prove to you that I have done all those things though. I'm obviously not going to take all that time to redo everything I've done AND record them AND upload them to YouTube just so you can say "oh..I guess Dark Armor does suck."You'll have to forgive me for not believing a damn thing you say here. It was a clever attempt to back out of a challenge, though.
However, from a logical point of view, I can attempt to tell you how it can be done.
> Electric Armor has End-drain resistance, that means I don't have a problem with any mobs that can drain my endurance.
> With my IO'ed out build, I have ~60% resistance across the board.
> I also have 38% defense across the board.
> In addition to that, my total regeneration is a little bit above 500% with Energize on.
> Of course, survivability alone doesn't make you a good Tanker, it's the holding aggro part. I have the actual Taunt power itself. I am Earth Melee Primary so I have Fault and Tremor to hold aggro as well as keep mobs on their back almost 100% of the times. I also have Lightning Field Aura.
It's pretty damn easy to survive.
As an aside, don't listen to these other noobs, I am THE BEST Tanker on CoH period. So good that I've cloned my ElecArmor/EarthMelee Tanker on every single servers. -
Quote:Guess I'll be keeping that Shadow Punch afterall. My current attack chain is actually SP>MG>Smite>SP>Siphon>Smite and then restart with SP>MG...It's pretty much the same string that you proposed, actually, I will try out your attack string and see if it yields any significance.Do you have 235% +rech in Midnight Grasp (factoring in global buffs and enhancement)? If not, keep Shadow Punch: as a Brute you want to have a saturated attack string so you can generate that Fury. If you do (which is doubtful since you're WP and you don't really get anything from +rech defensively), the I would get rid of SP and switch to the MG>Smite>Siphon>Smite attack string (from the MG>Smite>SP>Siphon>Smite>SP string you should be using now).
