Yeah. DA isn't the 'holy grail' but it is what most of us have been using. We never got what we wanted from NCSOft (an 'offical fanart gallery as has been mentioned several times), so we organized for ourselves and went to DA. There are lots of other similar places to go, that could be better even, but right no DA is what was chosen and what has risen to the top.
I just made a visit to Curse Gaming's site. I clicked on Fan art, and there's only ONE page of pictures? And looks like they were all WoW related. I clicked on City of Heroes, and no 'fan art gallery' link. Where exactly are we supposed to put/view/find all these pieces? DA is much easier to work with. Why, there's even a search box that appears to work on DA. I just typed in 'City of Heroes' on Curse, and how many results? NONE. Repeat: NONE.
Nothing against Curse, or Lighthouse, and really not trying to be a 'spoiled rich kid' here, it's just a matter of too little, too late, honestly. -

1337? really? :P
CoV > CoH apparently :P -
Ok if they can't have art on NCSoft's site, then why are they encouraging it on another site that they don't own? THAT doesn't make sense to me. If they can pimp one site, why not another site? Or their OWN site? Y'know?
*shrug* I'm not a lawyer either -
Without reading the comments or description, who's the influence? Bet you can guess! :P
And he forgot my tailOh well it's okay
We'll just say it was cloaked :P
But I reeeally like what he did here. Can't wait til later when I can get a REAL commish from him! :P -
Yeah. I barely keep up with COH forums these days as I'm usually on DA more often :P Another site is just too much. And having to upload everything again, etc etc. What can I say, I don't like change :P
But yeah, if NCSoft would like an art community admin (like, make a real job? :P), I would totally apply for it. I DO live in Austin and I am in 'tune' with the art community and that would be like THE dream job for me right now -
Yeah. Thanks for that Lighthouse! But I think most of us already have an established prescence on Deviant Art. Also it is a good way to bring non-gamers into the mix as well

Maybe TA should edit his quote too !

You should try drawing on paper. More room that way. -
The art store! :P
Like Michael's or Hobby Lobby :P -
Hahhaa!
I'll play! but I'll probably poke the ball with my claws and deflate it.
Hmm... *ponders a new art idea* -
Well if you can't get a friend to stand there for you, at least take a picture with LOTS of diffuse lighting, outdoors preferably, don't use the flash. The flash will 'flatten' your subject, making it harder to draw an accurate picture.
I was told sometime that it's impossible to draw a 2d pic from a 2d pic of a 3d subject, it's better to draw a 2d pic from a 3d subject directly (i.e. Still Life and such).
But once you get 'the skills' then you should be able to draw from photographs and such. Just try to avoid drawing from other drawings, because just in the act of drawing it will take the 'life' from it and the accuracy, no matter if it looks extremely accurate already. You can't beat reality! :P -
Yeah I have a hard time drawing at home. So I've always drawn on my desk at work. Which is going to suck when I have to start working at home in a couple weeks, I don't think I will have the discipline to draw and my desk is really tiny for drawing space :P
-
I still completely support 'Drawing From Real Life' though :P If you can find a good model (or yourself, in a mirror), it will help much more than already drawn pictures. Learn the way the REAL human body works, and then you can draw comic style or anime style pretty easily. Don't start with comic style or anime style first :P It'll handicap you later
At least so I'm told. And there are exceptions to the rule.
Remember 100 bad drawings for every 1 good one!
