  1. If there's one thing that I've learned in my gaming career, it's that there are no good guys, just different PoVs.
  2. In my experience, once you use the awesomeness that is Knockout Blow coupled with Rage, you'll be more than willing to trudge to lvl 38 for footstomp. Also, I think you're selling Electric Melee too short. For one, while Lightning Rod is on a 90 second recharge, the set still has other AoE attacks that you can occupy yourself with while you're waiting. Jacob's Ladder, Chain Induction, and Thunderstrike iirc.

Anyways, it's just a matter of which is more fun to play. If you're an AoE happy person like I am, than Electric melee is DEFINATELY the way to go here. Although, I still do giggle a bit whenever I punch the ground with my SS tank. But that's just me.
  3. Imo, the whole buying and slotting enhancement procedure needs to be revamped. But this is definately a step in the right direction.

Hmm, that was best guess. And while it isn't required to reveal which was wrong/right, it'd be great to at least know we got "something" correct. How'd Leo's guess go? Closer than mine?

    Again, I'll try

    Claws/Regeneration....

    Gimme something here.

This is the group that killed me. Not seen, the boss of the mission I had defeated by the skin of my teeth (Having already defeated me twice before):

    1 Elite Boss (Seer 0001)
    3 Even Con Seers
    1 T.E.S.T Ranger Summon

And then the waves called on me.

Kinetic Melee/Willpower Scrapper, level 12. No Rise to the Challenge, No Burst, no Heightened Senses available.

    The Origin Game

Was hoping to give this thread a few days to breathe and come back to see how it's been going, looks like my goal hasn't been accomplished. But oh well, so to guess your build PS, I'm going to say...

    Kinetic Melee/Regeneration Scrapper/Stalker.

Regeneration is pretty obvious to me from your quote "durable, self repairing hyperstructure" however, Willpower also comes to mind as Regen isn't neccesarily "durable." I guessed KM due to this one "The potential energy of specific movements was redirected" My guess is that this hero or villain is fairly new, and is of course the Technology origin. So, how'd I do?

I used to do that, but then I found myself missing the powers once they were gone. Now I've decided to just suck it up. Which reminds me of something else GR related, while many of us seem to be having mixed experiences with GR, maybe it's just a bug? I've noticed plenty of times that mobs from ACROSS the room will just aggro on you for no reason if you're fighting a different mob.

Imo, if more than just a few people are saying that the difficulty has unfair spikes, than I think it's something the devs should look into. Lord knows they wont keep any new players with Praetoria being so frustrating at times.

So relieved that you put "when they die" at the end of that sentence.
  9. I find it interesting that a few people mentioned lowering the bosses to Lts, which I think is a very good idea (when solo of course).

Was doing a few tip missions last night with my Fire/SS tank on a x7/+1 diff, and while Rage+FE+Burn+Footstomp did wipe out all the minions and Lts practically simutaneously, it also meant that they ALL were going to attempt tp drain my endurance, AT THE SAME TIME. Ugh, then I had to deal with the Master Illusionist with her Ring Mistress sidekick and all their decoy phaseshifting gloryness; worst 20 minutes of my career.

You ever just complete a mission, exit it, and just let out a giant sigh? After that, I def needed a drink, hehe.
  10. I'm truly interested in knowing who likes to fight them, and why? In my opinion, there are so many other better and less annoying mobs to fight, so why fight these guys? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything like that, I'm just genuinely interested is all.

My decision was a toss-up between regen and willpower, but the focus on 'Enduring Pain' in particular fits into the powers available to wp moreso than regen. Determining the AT came down to the bit where Azon is 'take every corrupted soul with me,' which inherently implies a hero. Which leaves us with either a tanker or a scrapper toss-up, which I admit I just guessed at.
Actually all, Paradigm is correct. He is a Dual Blades/Willpower Scrapper, albeit he is Natural and not Magic. I can see why you would think magic due to the word cursed, (maybe poor choice of words on my part). You're analysis of the origin was dead on and honestly, it made me smile a bit. So seeing as how you guessed it PS, you're up next!

Btw to all others, thankyou for reading, it's obvious you all put some thought to it instead just throwing out a random combination. Never figured it could be interpreted as Dark Armor though, which is very interesting.

    The Origin Game

Hey all, I wanted to make a thread meant purely for fun; it's a game of sort. The way it works is that one person posts the origin of one of their favorite heroes/villains and then the someone else guesses what build they are.

Reason I've decided to make this thread is because there are plenty of talented writers in our community and many times I find myself (in-game) reading the bios of my teammates during downtime, then thinking to myself, "That was a real delight to read." So I figured why not make a thread on the forums but just give it a twist and transform it into a game.

If you want to play than great, but here's how it works. Someone posts their Heroes/Villain's origin, along the way including subtle hints in the origin as to what they might be. The first person to come along and correctly guess the Poster's build gets to add their origin story next. However, if the previous poster doesn't return to confirm that the person has guessed right within approximately 24 hours, than the next origin story is up for grabs. Simple enough.

Also, if you feel confident enough, I dare say you could try and guess whether the poster is Magic, Natural, Science, etc. One more thing thing to point out, you don't have to post the name of your Hero/Villain if it obviously gives away their build (i.e. Frozen Fire); it's just nice to have a name behind the story is all. So, here's hoping this thread will attract alot of unique and interesting bios. Now, I'm no writer, but seeing as how I'm the first person here, I guess I'll be the one to start.

Hero Name: Azon (This Bio is written in the form of a letter.)

    "Dear Ashley

It's all my fault. If I weren't such a screw up, such a terrible person, they would've never came for you. I tried to get them their money, I tried to pay them back! Honest to God I tried! So... goddamned hard I Tried!...But I just couldn't. The knowledge of knowing that I'm the cause of your death has made life a living hell for me, it's almost as if I'm cursed. You see, I want to die, no...I've tried to die, so many times; but fate won't have me. My soul is just so numb that I can't feel pain. I couldn't feel it when I drove the blade through my heart, I couldn't feel it when I stepped in the crossfire of those thugs and gave my body to their bullets. Yet, I know what it is. The pain my body endures is NOTHING compared to the pain I feel inside. I want to be with you again so badly, I need to...so, until the day comes where I finally meet a pain strong enough to overcome my sorrow, I will use these blades and take every corrupted soul with me. Until the day we meet again....

    Yours Truly, Azon"
  13. Are the dual IOs worth it? What lvl are they and what do they do?

Both are best possible cases, granted, and probably shouldn't be attempted by the type that wants to casually purple out their Warshade.
    Wow it takes THAT long??
  16. I'll admit, the difficulty in praetoria is definately what I'm not used to in the lower lvls. My only concern is, if this is supposed to attract new players, why on earth would they make so many tough enemies. I wouldn't be surprised if they manage to scare away any new people with these mobs.

I know for me, life has been TOUGH for my Kin/SR scrapper. Absolutely ROUGH! What I've come to notice is that solo or smaller teams seems to be the way to go here in Praetoria. After tonight, no more 8 man teams for me, mobs are just way too nasty.

Well, the whole concept behind FA is that the amount of damage that you put out was your form of tanking. I mean, if everything is dead, you've essentially done your job, which is to protect the squishies. Problem with that was, they nerfed burn AND introduced ED, thereby eliminating FA's primary source of damage and reducing our resistances quite a bit. The problem only got worse when Shields was introduced to the game as it took FA's place as "The Offensive Set," and did so with absolute ease.

Which brings us back to your quote. The idea behind FE and Burn ARE Fiery Armor's source of tanking. Kill them, before they kill the squishies, and ultimately, you.
Imo, it's back in the race against Shields in being the better "Offensive Set," but Shields has both impressive survivability and damage while FA, in many people's eyes, can only claim the latter of the two; outside of IOs of course.

P.S. Sorry for the history lesson.

I'm so lost in this thread.

But anyways to the OP, I too am in your boat, just for different reasons.
I'm walking into my senior year of College and as of right now with the amount of money it's going to take to buy my books, rent for my apartment, tuition and other necessities, it's going to throw me back quite a bit. Another reason is because I absolutely refuse to play this game during my semester. Did it my sophomore year and well, didn't turn out to great in terms of studies; so why buy something when I know I shouldn't be playing it?

Imo, this is great for me. By time I get back in mid December or so, the hype around Praetoria will have died down quite a bit, and everyone and their baby mamas won't be fighting with KM and EC.

However, FA was broken because you could herd entire maps, Burn didn't have a target cap, stuff stacked so you could fit aforementioned entire maps into its radius, you could have multiple Burn patches out and ED and GDN weren't in place so FA was tough enough to tank all those mobs while they melted.

SD is tougher on SOs (especially on Tankers) because with basic slotting you can get 1 small purple insp away from the softcap for all 3 positions. No single inspiration brings a FA tank to 90% mitigation almost all incoming damage. Add into that the nature of defense means all the debuffs attached to various attacks miss the SD tanker, whereas the FA will get hit for less but have to take all the debuffs on the chin.

With IOs, you can softcap to all three positions all the time and the numbers have already been done (by Frosticus, I believe) to show that SC far outdamages BA and/or Burn. In fact, IIRC he showed SC outdamaged them even if he worked with unrealistic assumptions like BA always hitting its target cap of foes.

AAO and SC are just that good.

WP, SD and DA all attest to how powerful layered defenses are. Pure resists and a big heal just isn't as tough as defenses, +hp and +resists. Plus the mitigation in KDing an entire spawn with SC.

I can give you numbers once I've got access to Mids again. Where are your numbers to back up your original statement? I would love to be proven wrong on this, I'd feel a lot better about my /FA Brute
Eh, you do have a point there; but right now, I'm just enjoying my Fire/SS/Pyre way too much to really care at the moment.

    Fiery Embrace+Rage+Burn+Footstomp = Destruction!

Seriously, ALL even conned minions and LTs dead within approximately two seconds is just awe-inspiring. My only gripe with the set now is the recharge/duration of Fiery Embrace; tweak that and I'll never say another bad thing about FA/ again...hopefully.

I've been waiting almost 12 long issues to say this...BURN IS BACK!
  22. At least you can still log on, keeps telling me the client is down, and I'm in the Eastern time zone. Torture I say, torture!

Oh and to answer your question, servers like Freedom are always packed liked sardines on release days. It's practically mandatory imo.
  23. Speaking of not being able to play, anyone else still not able to log on? It keeps telling me that something is wrong with the client.
