Agreed. The children of the goddess Danu are NOT inherently evil (their high king, The Dagda is known as 'the good god'). Yes, certain aspects of them (previously noted was the Morrigan, who, IIRC was also their goddess of wars and battles) had fearsome qualities, no doubt. Aye, they were mercurial of mood and puissant by their very nature. However, nowhere in any of my studies (admittedly, I'm not a Celtic-mythology major in school, but I have had an interest in Celtic mythos for years) have they ever been depicted as utterly destructive villains. They were mischevious and dangerous, but not ravenously 'evil'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

One of my characters, Donnybrook, was blessed by Morrigan, for his love for battle, and his success at beating enemies, and for the sheer amount of fights he's gotten into. That explains how he's become more than human as a Natural hero.

(As in, how is your ordinary guy kicking the junk out of a 30ft tall giant Malta robot?)
  2. Deflection Shield offers toxic resists, and Accelerate Metabolism offers some slight status resistance.

And I personally agree that I prefer bubblers before other defenders mainly because of the sheer no-nonsense safety of the bubbles. It's nice to see someone defending the FF set. It's nofrills, like SR is, but having played one, I was able to spend a lot of time outside of buffing period, fighting.

This is gonna be a bit nitpicky, but why is it assumed that Archey and Sonic blast sets were originally meant for Defenders? Ranged blasts are a Blaster primary, so whose to say that Blasters aren't sharing them with Defenders and not the other way around?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a silly arguement. What matters is that Controllers, as far as the Devs explained, where not getting any other powers. They're getting the trick arrow and sonic debuff - which is cool!
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Yay more shared power sets between controllers and defenders. There was not enough overlap already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, before the announcement, we didn't even know Controllers were going to get Trick Arrow. They weren't getting anything.

I don't see what the problem is.

    Blaster Damage

    [ QUOTE ]
The way I understand it, the Uber power that supposively made it "City of Blaster" was the smoke grenade, which got "adjusted" nearly out of existance. I really find this unbeliveable that one power in one secondary set of one Archtype makes it so that the entire archtype is so dominate. This seems so blow out of proportion. If this was the case, maybe it should have been called "City of Smoke Grenades"

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was more than that. Blasters were the most popular AT, bar none. Tankers and Scrappers weren't as refined back then, and we didn't have good slotting data back then.

Not only that, but there wasn't any 40+ game, much less content, and the purple patch wasn't out yet.

Blasters are now typically 2nd and 3rd place in terms of online numbers now (I did some testing to confirm this) with Defenders and Controllers trailing and Tankers and Scrappers leading.

So then you were playing buffbot for no reason and managed to die? uhhh... Well done?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like he was doing what all Empaths do. Buff and heal. He even said he was healing and buffing. Maybe you call that a buffbot but that sound exactly like what Empaths do.

    [ QUOTE ]
And that's got to be the worst example of why Defenders are fine I've ever heard in all the time I've been reading these boards. What it's telling you is that if you want to be a slave to your group and follow them around like a puppy while they accomplish things, you can do that as a Defender... so long as you're an Empath or ForceFielder. A Kinetics, Rad, Dark or Storm in the same situation would've been worthless. What a great premise for an AT.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it sounds like an explanation of, despite level difference, buffs are equally effective. Furthermore modest heals can still be the difference between life and death. Not bad for being 15 levels below everyone else.

    [ QUOTE ]
edit: Oh and by the way... a /Emp Controller could've done exactly the same thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, I have a lvl 50 mind/emp and it sounds like he's playing Empathy exactly how they are meant to be played, and they are still effective even many levels below everyone else. But a Defender will still provide a higher value for buffs and heals than Controllers.

Some people may complain that debuff sets don't do as well as Empathy or Force Fields in that regard, but they have their own set of strengths.

    "I got a rock"

When I use Hurl, I sometimes say: My rock is bigger.

I believe, from reading the History Plaques, may be part of the Regulators, a group of superheroes formed by Back Ally Brawler in August of 1972. The plaque states that "Blue Steel coined their motto" leading me to believe that he was a part of it, although it's not really that clear.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just keep in mind cops are cops 24/7 and I believe he's an official member of the Paragon Police but is sanctioned out as a Superhero.

Remember, Captain America is a solider of our government (Army I believe, or a special operative ala Nick Fury in SHIELD) yet is an Avenger and crimefighter. Marvel has been a little grey about that in the past.

But it doesn't surprise me that Blue Steel is still a member of police law enforcement as a superhero.
  9. Is it just me or is this thread REEEEEEALLLLY WIIIIIDE?

OrdinaryGirl, I agree with you that you have to be really efficient in how you slot SR or it doesn't perform well. And it's not like all the numbers are posted in the game, so that it's somewhat easier to make decisions.

Borealys, check out my Marathon build guide and see if it helps you. I recommend putting 1 END SO in every attack, and in every defense toggle (except resistance toggles) on top of 6-slotted Stamina.

I did that from lvl 28 onward with my MA/SR and haven't regretted it since.
  10. Total thread ressurection. It's like watching Thriller!

Well it seems to me the Devs thought Elude was too powerful, but the rest of the set needed a little help. I admit I'm on the seat of my pants wondering what's going to happen to Donnybrook again.
  11. Could you test the speed of 6-slotted Sprint and Swift together?

BTW, you should check out 6-slotted Hurdle and 6-slotted Swift together, with Sprint on. I've seen someone use it and they left me behind with Superspeed (though I didn't have speed SO's, or Swift).

Okay, but heres the real question. The heck does Positron's voice sound like? He doesnt speak at all during the entire trailer. I'm guessing it'd sound a bit like an Uber Speak & Spell.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I've read his dialogue in his Task Force and he sounds like an ordinary guy, as far as how he speaks. It might have a metalic tone to it. Or since he's like a being of energy inside, maybe more eiree than that.
  13. I was thinking something else. If any signature hero can sport powers outside his AT or power sets, what we see from Statesman himself might just be a huge range of powers.
  14. His only attacks look like Energy Melee punches. I guess he can just change his race at Icon, too. Everything explained now!
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I *knew* I recognized Recluse's voice when he said "Move to your positions"...I had been driving myself batty trying to figure out where I recognized it from.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ditto. I was thinking "I heard that voice somewhere" but couldn't place it. I ended up thinking maybe he did a Transformer's voice. Just checked on the IMDB and that's not the case. But I did watch a bit of PowerPuff girls and used to do Mojo Jojo impressions to my kids, so that's what was eating in the back of my mind.
  16. I'll just chime in with a word about Ring of Fire. It's a quick-firing power that does a lot of damage for it's activation time. It does work as a DoT, which limit's it's use a little, but it's still got a range of 60ft, and it's the most damaging tier 1 attack of any of the Blaster secondaries. With that and Fire Sword you can add some significant single target damage alongside Fire Blast and Blaze.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I think it's just CGI flair. That's a kick to the mid-section to knock away the baton, which sends the poor sucker tumbling forward, and a roundhouse axe-kick to his back to really knock him down.

Throwing CoH rules on these vids is like saying... Positron's blast as he gets up should be in the game as "Knockdown Recovery Blast."

I know I know, more fun that way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah I agree with you. But if we were to make a comparison to what attack's he's using, the closet in game is literally the Thunder Kick followed immediately by Dragon's tail. I did the same thing last night after I saw the video. Comes from the same angle and does the same thing. TK is a quick kick to the mid section (same leg, same height) then the roundhouse kick (same rotation direction and same knockdown). Crippling Axe kick wouldn't have knocked anyone down, either.

Just saying those two attacks are far closer to what we see than CAK, which is a forward kick, no spin, that brings the leg straight up and then chops down. Nothing like that occured from Foresight in that video.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Watching this makes me drool. But I have an important questions! Will the powersets and/or costume options be available in both CoV and CoH?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well keep in mind some signature characters will usually get a costume option exclusive to them, that players cannot duplicate. But I think the others answered your question well enough.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I even saw him using Crippling Asskick. Even geko wouldn't take that power and he designed it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually Foreshadow uses Thunder Kick, followed by Dragon's Tail.

I'll say this, watching Manticore teleport into action made me respect teleport for once.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
And Back Alley Brawler thought his name got made fun of a lot!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I've accidentally called him the Backstreet Brawler more than once. And I HATE the Backstreet Boys.

edit: "hate" not "have" - I have never had any BSB albums, etc.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
As the game grows I will continue to try and clarify things that have been contradictory or confusing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, like how many Back Alley Brawlers there are. See pic (if it'll show)
  22. [ QUOTE ]
The Back Alley Brawler is white? What? Are you high?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well my wife DID just have a baby this morning.

Seriously though, check the pic I took. He looks a little tanned, but still very white to me. I know a few of my white friends who are darker than the BAB, and they have better tans than I'll ever get (grumble grumble).
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Well, it's good to see some things never change. Blasters can't even catch a [censored]ing break in the god[censored] trailers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well Synapse has 48K HP and is alot tougher than any Blaster. He just happens to have the electric attacks.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Energy Melee glows red? Last time I checked it was pink.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    EM doesn't glow pink!

    It's more of a ... light red.....
