You can put a monitor for these on your UI by (trying to remember without UI on this comp) hitting the Powers at top of basic powers tray. Then hit attributes I think. Then look for Damage Bonus. Find it, and i think it's right click to bring up the monitor option. Then drag the tiny window over to where you have your attacks powers so you don't lose track of it in huge combats.

This is the very best graphical information I have found for monitoring Rage drops.
Thanks, I will look into that. That might be the next best thing, although I do notice the icon blinking on the character pane usually, which basically tells me the same.

I'm more worried about the defence debuff than the damage one, although it's the combination that makes for trips to the hospital, especially when teamed with my friends' blasters/scrappers.

Again, on your powers tray's header bar, hit the "Powers" link to bring up the Powers window. Then hit the "Combat Attributes" link and you'll get a big window.

The Combat Attributes window shows all of your stats in real time.

If you right-click a particular stat, you can add it to the mini-monitor window. You can move it to where ever you want on your screen. You can monitor up to 10 stats. White stats are default/normal. Green is buffed. Red is debuffed. Blue is the capped value (doesn't show the extra).
Thanks, I'll look at it. Didn't know this option existed. How do you get the smaller map window?

Would a Brute be considered a tank? I had the feeling is was kind of the Villain counterpart of the Tanker, but I'm not sure.

I joined Union Chat yesterday evening, there were just over 50 people in it, but it seemed rather quiet.

I'm running the Mac client. Looks like I'm out of luck as far as the HeroStats tool is concerned.

As I said, I don't mind so much for the cooldown on the powers, with the growing circles it works well enough. It's just the buffs. For the inspirations it's just a bit annoying, for the Rage buff it means living or dying in a challenging fight.

    Thanks for the replies anyway.

    Timers in UI

    Hey everyone,

I'm a new player, and I was wondering if there is a way to get timers on things in the user interface? I can live with the slow growing/ballooning of the stuff in the action bars, but I now have Rage on my Super Strength toon and it's very annoying not to have an estimate ho long it will last, until it starts blinking for the last 10 seconds or so, especially because it gives such a large debuff after running out.

The costume creator allows you to preview and try on any costume pieces you don't own, even save costume files with said pieces but restricts you from using them if you don't own the piece by not letting you complete the changes.
I have the Magic Pack unlocked. My problem is that if I load a character costume I saved, it's no longer in the interface. At all.
It should be in the list with Jackets, Tops with Skin and such. It disappears from that list when I load the saved character and I can't find a way to get it back. The saved character has no special stuff as far as I know.
  6. Hey, I'm new to the game and I have observed something in the costume designer that's either a bug or me not understanding something. I'm hoping someone can clarify it for me.

I had made a character and saved the costume before I entered the game (about 2 weeks ago). On reaching level 20 I got the second costume slot and wanted to add that.

In between I unlocked some new costume options, for example the Magic Bolero.

My problem: I first wanted to experiment with the costume options by clicking on "create new character" then load the design I saved earlier and mess around. I could then save it and once at the tailor just load it and apply it. But to my surprise, after loading the saved costume, I didn't have the Magic Bolero option any more. I can get it when creating a fresh character, for example by selecting the Witch premade, but it's simply not in the list when I load an older save.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

I first need to figure out the chat interface. I find it confusing. I probably just need to get the hang of it.

    I have some other questions:
I was unable to register our Super Group as "The Conclave" because it already existed. If I search for it, it only has 80000 reputation. It looks like it's never been used with only 4 characters in it. Is there a way to find out who might own this and if they might be willing to give it up? As we're new players we wouldn't have anything to trade for it I think. Given that our community has been called "The Conclave" since 2002, I was wondering if there is a way.

Thanks for the explanations on the Trial. Is it similar to the Story Arcs in how it works, or is it more like a single mission with multiple elevator levels?

In general, what would be expected when joining a trial as far as archetypes performing different roles? I'm used to the traditional Tank/Healer/DPS groups from WoW. It seems to map onto some of the Archetypes, how does this work? Does the Archetype matter or start to matter from certain levels.
I notice that even within an Archetype there are big differences in how well you can play a role. For example my Fire/Fire Brute is much more single target dps than a tank than my SuperStrength/Regeneration Brute. This might change at higher levels and depending on what Powers you choose in the PowerSets.

Do you need to have 8 members in the team? I often see 6/8 or something like that advertised in Help. Do you need a full team, I was under the impression that the spawns scale with the size of the team.

Me and a friend had a look in Pocket D yesterday evening, but it seemed there were only a dozen or so level 50's idling there around DJ Zero. Is that the place to go, or are there other places, like the Atlas statue seems to be for Heroes? Is the dance floor area what's referred to as "Blue side in Pocket D"?

    Hello Union,

I've just started playing this game last Christmas, and a few friends have joined me. We had started on Infinity but have decided to move to Union as we're all from the Netherlands.

We're part of a large internet gaming community, The Conclave, and I'm trying to get a few more members to join us, but we'll see how that goes.

For now we've started a Super Group on the Villain side named "TheConclave" and are trying to find our bearings in the game. Our highest level characters are now level 21.

We might get more involved in the community once we've settled in a bit. Given that some of us are pen-and-paper role players we might also get involved in that. I already got some pointers from when I made a thread on the European Lounge subforum.

In this respect it would help if someone could explain to me what things like "Sewers blue side" and such mean. People have already asked me to join that but I have no clue what it is or what would be expected.

I've been told to get on global channel "Union Chat", which I probably will do once I get the chat interface completely figured out. (I haven't used chat much yet, some of the buttons seem awfully small).

Any advice is welcome at this point.

We've decided to move everything over to the Union server, as we're all based in the EU. We mostly have VIP accounts, so it wasn't a big deal.

Thanks for all the friendly and useful replies anyway.
  10. Thanks for the replies everyone.

We've decided to move from Infinity to Union based on your input.
  11. I have used the in-game store to buy points in the past, but I got this error. I tried both PayPal and Mastercard.

I then tried the NCsoft website, where I could buy points using PayPal and didn't get this error.

So for now I've worked around my problem, but I wanted to report it anyway as I find it odd that the in-game store would not work, while the website does.

If you're concerned with some information, ask. We can check for you, and even let the right people know that something needs fixing--after all, this is made by the players.
It wasn't meant as an attack on people here. When I started this game on a free account I often pulled up the same topic on both wiki's and then compared. I just remember that in most cases I noticed the Paragon wiki to be more up-to-date, but also a few cases where the reverse seemed true.

As this was before upgrading to VIP, I don't remember exactly what topics. I've searched my browser history, but it only goes back a week.

It's not really important, I'll bring it up if I come across it again, or fix it myself if I'm confident enough by that time.

I do like the Paragon Wiki. I tend to immerse myself in any new game I play, usually starting on reading resources like that even before joining the game. I've been an active contributor on several wiki's, and if I play this game long enough, I'll probably try to join the ranks of the Paragon wiki contributors as well.

If I offended anyone with my remark, then you have my sincere apologies.

Thanks for all the replies, I think we're going off-topic and my original question has been answered, so maybe we should end the discussion here.

That an interesting business model that you apparently need Snow before you can get Lion; I didn't realize that before.
Even if it isn't officially supported, sometimes you can skip a version without problem. For example Tiger (10.4) -> Snow Leopard (10.6) does work, I've done it myself. Apple just doesn't officially support it. It might be worth googling if this can be done 10.5 -> 10.7 as well.

I just got a new Macbook Pro with Lion, but I don't like some of the new features. I prefer Snow Leopard. If you have Leopard, I would just do the upgrade to Snow Leopard for € 29 (if I remember the price correctly).

Keeping the market open for a long time is also crashing the game for my Windows friends, so it doesn't seem to be Mac specific.

One trick that not everyone might know is that you can make an alias. So if you navigated to this location once, right-click, select make alias, and then move the alias to a location that you can access easily, e.g. the Finder Sidebar, your Home folder, something like that.

Then you don't have to do this whole trick again each time.

Thanks for the guide, as a new player (on Mac), it's very useful.

Not only has it been warm, it's also been raining a lot. Over here in the Netherlands that means problems with water. Especially with the gale force winds we've had, it's been hard to pump excess water out to sea because water in the North Sea gets pushed up against the shore. (remember, we live at or below sea (threat) level).

The dikes are holding, but several places still have flooded from the heavy rain, mostly unoccupied low lying agricultural lands, where the government directs excess water in scenarios such as this.

But everything is very wet and there are large puddles of water everywhere, including about 5-6 cm of water in my new garden of the house I bought last summer. I call it my "swimming pool".

  17. I don't have a solution to your keyboard problem. I just run the OSX version of CoH. This works fine, so might be a workaround.
  18. I'm running on a recent Macbook Pro (2,2 GHz i7, Radeon 6750, 512 MB GDDR5).

I just want to report that it runs the game very nicely, with nearly all settings at max. Ultra. I can run with everything on max. but then the machine gets hot enough for the laptop fan to rev up and become quite loud. With just below max. Ultra settings, the laptop keeps quiet.

    Thanks for supporting Mac.

    Edit:
More specific info: I get 20+ fps with all Ultra settings at maximum. If I move Ambient occlusion to Balanced it goes up to 30+ fps, which is what I usually play with. This is on OSX Lion 10.7.2, 1680x1050 display.

So anyone considering a 15" Macbook Pro should be fine if you want to play this game.
  19. We've played on Union a bit yesterday evening, and it seems to be similarly populated to Infinity (In Atlas Park and Mercy Island) with the peak indeed being a few hours earlier in the evening. We did experience lag a few times on Infinity, on Union we didn't, although that might just be luck, it is a consideration to take into account.

We have a meeting this evening to discuss moving. One of my friends is on a free account but none of his characters are above level 10, the others have at least 2 VIP transfers which would be sufficient for the level 10+ characters we have. All our character names are available.

Thanks for the input. Any more advice is always welcome.

I don't know enough about the game yet to feel confident to update stuff. It could just be myself misunderstanding something. I think I've come across Super Jump being mentioned as unlocked at level 14, which I think it was before Issue 21. It's not in the main topic though and I can't find any more where I've seen it, so I could be remembering it wrong.

Unfortunately, no, this cannot be done. But since you just started playing a few weeks ago, you won't lose much prestige if you just form a new super group on your new home server. (If you urgently need more prestige, I'm willing to donate some to your SG; just send me a PM.)

    10joy
We don't have a lot of prestige yet, so it's not a big issue. I'll stick with the English servers as my two options. I do speak French and German as well, but my friends don't and my English is better.

So my choices are sticking to Infinity, going to Union or to Defiant. Does anyone know population numbers or can make a guess? I just want to compare my experience on Infinity.

Also when talking about RP on Union, what does that mean? I do like a bit of RP every now and then, I do play the Mutants and Masterminds pen-and-paper RPG. My characters do have a decent description, one of them even more, as he's based on a character I've played in M&M. When online we have decided some of the missions we did on our character backgrounds and such, but most of the time we go out of character and just do what makes sense.
I've never done RP in an MMORPG. What does it mean?

Similarly, your Salvo should say Ranged Damage there. You can see which set categories a power can take by mousing over the power in your enhancement screen: it's listed above the total values of enhancements in the power.

  23. I've used a gaming mouse on my MBP, but I've switched to a simple Logitech optical mouse.

The problem with the gaming mouse was that it had much higher resolution and sensitivity than the Magic Mouse or built in trackpad. In OSX you can't set the sensitivity separately for each mouse, so either the trackpad would be really slow, or the gaming mouse would be very jumpy.

Having a normal mouse with comparable sensitivity to the Magic Mouse and trackpad makes that you don't have to adjust the sensitivity each time you switch mouses.

It also plays COH well at recommended settings (25-35 fps) and more than 50fps on performance settings. I've had it over a year now and it is by far the best computer I've ever owned. Light, fast, quiet, and reliable.
My old 2007 MBP (2.0 GHz Core Duo, 120 GB 5400 rpm disk, 8600GT) would boot to the desktop in about 26 seconds. (Unlike Windows this is when the OS is done and you can start using the machine.

Since Apple uses the EFI BIOS the time spent in BIOS POST is negligible, it's just loading the OS into RAM from disk that takes time.

I haven't timed my new December 2011 Macbook Pro yet, but it's faster from the 750 GB 5400 rpm disk but not by much. I hardly ever boot my Mac, I mostly just put it to sleep, and then it wakes up instantly.

When playing CoX I can use Ultra settings with the Ati 6750 and everything seems to run fine (don't know the fps). The game starts in about 5 seconds from the disk and I have 3-4 second load times when switching to a different map area.

These numbers might go down with an SSD, but even with a low end 5400 rpm disk I hardly ever have to wait.

It runs really well on the Mac right now as far as I'm concerned, although I haven't tried any of the high end content (just reached level 20).

The disk might make more of a difference on the 8600GT, if you have the model with 128 MB video memory, as then it has to move textures around a lot more. Still that should be mostly stored in RAM, and not on disk, unless you have a lot of other applications running.
  25. Greetings!

I am a new player, just started last Christmas with some friends and I like the game a lot. I've started on Infinity as that was the name of a MUD we used to play on in the nineties.

I have since found out that there used to be a difference between NA and EU servers but that things were merged last summer. I also found that Infinity used to be a NA server.

My question basically is if the difference still matters. I already noticed quite a few CoX events get organized at times that are after midnight for me (the Netherlands). This might just be because the EU community is much smaller or that I'm not on the right server or not looking in the right places.

I only have a few characters yet and so do my friends, and given VIP status, we might move servers at this point. Can you also move a SuperGroup? We're playing villains b.t.w.

I am mainly looking for advice on if we should move to one of the old EU servers. Any tips on what events exist that are EU timezone compatible is also welcome. In general what should an European player do to get most out of this game?

    Cheers

    RW
