Nope. My TV is for the game systems.

And if it can be used on prime time television frequently enough to warrant your response, then it shouldn't be bad enough to be blocked. After all, we've got Damned bosses, and one NPC even tells you that you're starting to piss him off.

    In game, type:

    /get_global_name name

In most cases, this will return the global name of the person who owns the name, and you can then send them a global /tell. Of course, there's no guarantee that they'll respond, and if their account is no longer active, you'll never know the difference.

If the name was taken, and the person canceled their account, before the global name system was implemented, then the name won't have a global name associated with it. In this case, /get_global_name won't return anything. It won't matter though, because you obviously aren't going to get a response from someone whose account has been inactive for the last 6+ years anyways.
  3. It should be granted at the same time as the badge.

Did you get the badge? Did you check to see if you were granted the power, and it just wasn't reported (It will show up on the Temporary Powers list, and will usually end up in the last slot, but check over the whole list")?

Try typing "/pow_exec_name Call to Justice" in your chat window. If you DO have the power, you'll do the animation (fist in the air like certain godmodes, and a blue flash spreading out from you). If you don't (or you misspelled the power name, so type carefully!), nothing will happen.

If you didn't get the power, that's definitely a bug. Use the /bug command to report it, so that it can be fixed. To get the power, you'll have to either switch to Vigilante, then back to Hero, then wait another week, or file a /petition and get a GM to fix it.

Most likely, low-level support won't be able to fix it, and it will have to be escalated. If that's the case, and it doesn't get fixed within a day or two, make sure you update the support ticket by either responding to the email, or by logging into your support account on the NCSoft website. This is important, because if they don't get to your ticket right away, and it goes three days without you updating the ticket, the system will assume that the issue is resolved, and close the ticket automatically, meaning that you'll have to start the support process over.
  4. Quite often, I'll have my mp3 player with me while I'm at work. Occasionally, I'll hear a song lyric and go "That would make a great name!" I can't be the only one who does it - I've seen several music-inspired names in the years I've been playing.

So when I was listening to Come Together and heard the line "He one spinal cracker", I had to go check if it was available; "Spinal Cracker" would be a great name for a brute. To my surprise, the game responded "That name is not available", which is how it tells you that the name (or a part of it) is on the banned list.

I spent almost a half hour searching for a copyrighted character, or any kind of drug or sexual reference that could have put the name on the list. It was only then that I remembered that "cracker" is a derogatory racial term. Sure enough, "sdghsa cracker" came up as "not available" also.

Further testing revealed that deliberate misspelling could bypass the block. "Spinalcracker" and "Spinal Kracker" were both either available or in use. And by taking the four-letter words for "fornication" and "excrement" and combining them with "cracker", I was informed that both were valid names!

I understand that offensive words need to be censored in order to maintain the Teen rating. However, there are some completely innocent words that can be used in an offensive way - I'm reminded of when the cartoon ReBoot was forced to remove references to the game of hockey because of a "vulgar term" that was so obscure that I don't know anyone who had ever heard of it before being told of that incident.

I know of one previous case where something was removed from the banned words list. My understanding was that the phrase "god damn" or "god damned" was on the list, but the program was reading the space as a separator, and blocking the word "god", and that eventually the list was fixed. Indeed, when I check "god", I get "That name is already in use", whereas "God of (whatever)" names were blocked when I started the game.

By now, I'm sure you're wondering what the point is, or if I'm just ranting. The point is: Is "cracker" as an offensive term really so prevalent that it's warranted a place on the list? And is there any way to request the review of a term on the list?

Note that you can't have an APP and a PPP on the same build, so if you already have even one Patron Power, you have to respec out to pick APPs.
  6. Obliteration really isn't a good set for a damage aura. It's got a bunch of recharge enhancement (which a toggle doesn't really need), about half a SO of End Reduction (which a damage aura DOES need), and a proc (which is pretty underwhelming in a toggle).

Working both positional and typed defenses isn't your best use of resources. Yes, having both is going to protect you more often than having just one, but I personally feel that the return isn't high enough to justify the extra slots and expense.

I'd take Combat Jumping earlier, and push all the Concealment pool back. CJ and Stealth give the same +def, CJ buffs your movement, where Stealth reduces it, and CJ provides Immob protection, which Fire only gets through Burn otherwise. Of course, if you have no intention of exemplaring, this doesn't really matter.

I can't open the build (they don't make Mids' for phones yet), so I can't comment on anything else; that's just what I noticed looking over the post.
  7. You could always log off and play a different character until the timer runs out. The box doesn't vanish when you log out (The last time I checked, which was a while ago).
  8. It functions like a Luck of the Gambler Recharge or Karma -KB. So yes, it's always on, unless you exemplar more than 3 levels below the IO.
  9. For pets that can accept Range SOs, the Cardiac will increase the range you can summon pets at, and will extend the range of the pets' Ranged, Cone, and Targeted AoE attacks. It shouldn't affect their AI in any way.
  10. What everyone said above is true, BUT... The last time the store was down, I recall getting the "Store is unavailable" message, then going "Hey! I still have empty slots!"

It may be that they've fixed the store so you don't lose anything you already have when it goes down, but I'm not going to say that with 100% certainty until I see it a few times.

OK, I never checked the three different sources against each other, but I was told that they all generated the same non-stacking autopower by someone that I had no reason to doubt. However, if you've tested it (at least in part), I'll take your word on it.

No. Even if you could get them to fire at the same time, it wouldn't work.

The Achilles' Heel -RES proc, the Fury of the Gladiator -RES proc and Tanker Bruising all do the same thing; rather than apply a -RES debuff, they grant the target a short duration autopower that applies the debuff and is flagged "Does not stack from same caster". All three sources grant the same autopower, and since the target is the caster of that auto, even if you had multiple sources stacking dozens of -RES procs/bruising effects on a single target, it would never be debuffed more than once (from those sources. Debuffs from elsewhere, like sonic blast, would still stack normally). All you would accomplish is extending the duration of the debuff when they stacked, and increase the likelyhood of getting a new debuff up if the proc didn't fire often enough.
  13. I've seen one passed around before, but it was for scrappers, and I know they changed Claws a fair amount when they ported it to brutes. So what is the ideal single target attack chain for a claws brute, and how much recharge is required to pull it off?
  14. Kismet is correct. There are two types of cards: The 30 day game card, and the 30 or 60 day game time card.

The game card can be used to create a new account, grants 30 days of game time, and comes with a nifty jet pack that lasts 30 days for each character on the account. This account will have access to City of Heroes and City of Villains, but not Going Rogue.

The game time cards can only be used to pay your susbscription fee. You have to have a full account (At least CoH/V, Going Rogue is not required) before you can use these cards.

I'm not picking on you, Techbot; I just see this so often that it needs to be corrected.

WST Gives the following benefits on the first run of the week, and only on the first run:
-Notice of the Well (If the character is Alpha unlocked before running the TF)
-Bonus Merits equal to the base amount for the TF*
-An XP bonus of 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2 a level, depending on the length of the TF. (For 50's, this bonus is converted to Inf, just like any other XP is)

After the first run, running it a second or subsequent time gives the following:
-Progression towards the badges for running the WST extra times.

*Note that I didn't say "Double Merits", like most people and even the official announcements do. That's because you don't actually get double merits. You get the Bonus Merits, plus the end of task force rewards, which can sometimes include a reward table. If you select a non-merit reward, you just get the bonus merits, not "Double merits plus a Alpha Component" or "Double Merits plus a Hami-O".
  16. Unless someone redefined terms again, a Bit is the smallest unit of information (a 1 or 0), a Byte is 8 Bits, and a Nybble is half a Byte (or 4 Bits).

I recall reading a redname post on the Test forum saying that the new Launcher had faster connections. Also, if you set it to run in the background, it'll update itself as it finds patches, so you won't need to wait on patch day!

If so, will it have any effect on lag/rubberbanding ingame (thinks RWZ raids!)?
Once you've loaded the game, it's the same thing whether you use the old patcher or the new one. You won't notice any in-game difference as a result of this change.

Most of the time I wait a week or so to see if the niche rebounds but my experience is that if I don't sell a good number within 24 hours it's not a case of will I relist but when will I relist.
This sounds like what I've been doing. Any time I've tried to get into a big-ticket item, I've lost money, or (if I was lucky) broken even. Most items I've been working are high-volume, like Mako, Scirocco, and Doctored Wounds bits. I'll do one stack of the item, then move on to another.

The problem with the item I got stuck with is that a fluke of bad timing made a not-so-high volume item look far busier. I'm going to take Fulmens' advice and leave them over the weekend, but if they don't move, I'm just going to throw them at the lowballers. I feel like I'd be better off selling 10 items in one day for 2 million profit each, than 10 in 3 weeks for 5 million profit each.
  19. My understanding is that the Test and Beta servers are exactly the same as the Live server (other that whatever patch is being Tested/Betaed). When the in-game store sends out a request, instead of going to an outside line for verification from your bank, a dummy server catches the request and sends back "Approved!", regardless of what's on file.

They really need to attach that server to the Live store for a few days. >_> <_<
  20. Queue Steelclaw's List of option settings that didn't make it into the NC Launcher!
  21. When they originally made the game, if they had made a physical eye behind the face and skinned it seperately, and each face (except ones with closed eyes) had a hole cut in it, it would be trivial to add new eye colors, or even cat, reptile, etc eyes, and even animated eyes that look around and/or blink.

However, since the eyes are drawn onto the face, it would be far more difficult to add eye colors. Likely, the only way to do it would be to add a pattern (which would be different for every face) that allowed us to color the eyes when it was selected. See various chest and pants patterns for examples of how they've done this already.

The problem with this is that you wouldn't be able to change the eye color of a face wearing a mask or makeup, and if you changed the eye color, you wouldn't be able to add a mask.

This is one of those "It's a great idea, but at this point, it would be a ton of work for minimal return" ideas.

As to the trains - I remember paying for a griffin ride in a certain other game, then going to make dinner, eating it, and getting back before the griffin arrived at my destination. I can live with the 10 second delay between trains.
  22. Personally, I wouldn't slot the proc there.

I've only got Surveillance on my Bane, not a blaster. Still, I'd hesitate to slot anything in it that draws aggro. While I usually use it as a lead-up debuff, putting the proc in it makes it so that you can never use it as an aggro-free enemy scan.

If you plan on never using it except as a debuff, and have a slot to spare, go ahead, I guess. It's not going to matter if you plan on aggroing the enemy right away anyways.
  23. I've been getting into some serious marketeering lately, but I'm still learning the ropes. A couple weeks ago, I found an item that had several of the recipe for sale, a large difference between the recipe and crafted price, and the last 5 on the crafted were all within 24 hours. It seemed like a good target.

I bought enough recipes and salvage to make 10 and listed them. Overnight, I sold 3. Over the next 2 days, I sold 2 more, plus someone else sold one. Over the next week, two sold, neither of them mine. I pulled the 5 I had left, and relisted them at their break-even price. It's been over a week, and only one of these IO has sold, and it wasn't mine.

There's open bids on the item. If I were to pull the ones I have left and relist for 1, I'd probably break even of the stack as a whole, maybe even be a bit ahead. What would you recommend doing?

In general, under what circumstances would you walk away from a niche and find something else to work, and when would you run, dropping anything you had in it, and even accepting a loss, if need be?
