I'm sorry to hear this. Last I heard there was discussion of keeping the old-res versions and making high-res an option for the costume editor. I guess that idea has been rejected?
  2. Anyone else having connection issues again? I was booted from the game, had a few log in attempts time out on me, and the forums are acting pretty sluggish.

Bolded for emphasis. We have enemies with Snake lower bodies. We should be able to create player characters with the same option.
  4. Wow, there's some really incredible stuff to be seen here. As an artist, it's both intimidating and inspiring to see such high quality work. I wish I had the discipline to sit down and work on my drawing skills more. lol

Anyway, please keep them coming. I've always been fascinated with the development process of games. Perhaps one day I'll get to work on a game of my own, but for right now I'll have to settle for watching how others do it. lol.

Same. Clearly someone has changed something somewhere because I was able to get online earlier with no problems at all.

Because not everyone knows it's Time Warners fault... and sometimes it *is* Paragon Studios. Especially considering the recent patch release had so many bugs in it that it called for an emergency publish/fix (which didn't even work).

*edit for clarity* I mean, for me... I immediately thought it was a CoH server problem when I wasn't able to connect to the game... but was able to get onto the forums and other internet sites. You'd think if it were Time Warner that it would be down for... well... everything. Clearly I still have much to learn.
  6. Devs don't work on the weekend. I don't think they even look at the forums on the weekend. If it's a CoH problem, we won't hear about it until Monday or Tuesday. Maybe even Wednesday because I think there's a Tuesday publish/hotfix scheduled (for issues that aren't related the subject of this thread).
  7. Time Warner, Indiana, having the same problems. I was able to play the game some earlier today... Thought it was a game bug located to one specific character I had (because the game only hung while on the character or at the login screen).... but.... I recently tried to get on a different character and it made the game hang as well... and I haven't been able to get passed the server list since.

This isn't the first time I've had trouble with Time Warner. For the last 4 to 5 months my internet has been flat-out dropping in the middle of game sessions... multiple times... and I've noticed it outside of the game as well. At least that seems to have gone away (for the most part).
  8. This isn't about any specific item, but it's a suggestion in general that I think should be taken to heart. And yes, Mod/Admins/Devs please pay attention to this as I feel it's very important:

Anyone with a VIP status should get a significant discount off items on the Paragon Market

As I understand, the discounts listed now are available for everyone... but if you allow more discounts for VIP members you'll gain an added incentive for players to subscribe and VIP members won't feel like they're getting ripped off* by the insanely high market prices.

*Which they technically are considering they're paying the same subscription fee and having to pay the extra money to get some things they'd have gotten in a free update pre-Freedom

  10. As much as I wanted mine to place.... Zyphoid got friggen robbed! He entry is only 3 posts underneath the grand prize winning entry and it's easily the best costume design there.

Anyway, congrats to those lucky enough to get something out of the contest.
  11. I don't see why not. From what I understand... level 30 IOs give you the same amount as a level 50 SO, so I really doubt you'll lose all that much to begin with.

If you're still not sure, however... I think Mids lets you pick the level of enhancements to slot... so you can slot the IO sets and SOs and compare numbers pretty easily.

*edit* My only real problem with slotting IO sets outside of the 47-50 range is the extra cost when you want to upgrade those later. But if you can afford it, I say go for it.

Only shout from sonic has them beat, and people complain about that one too.

    This^

I have a DP/Traps and on teams I (frequently) found myself having to choose what I attacked based on their health and type. If a minion or LT I targeted had less than half their health left I wouldn't even bother attacking. Why? Because most of the time they'd be dead by the time I finished my fancy animation. I don't even use PR unless it's to chase a runner. And even that's not a guaranteed kill if there's another ranged person or someone runs up with Nemesis Staff or something.

    Regen Question

Regen is a tricky set. As many others have told me, you kinda have to anticipate the damage in order to get your heal activated in time (Honestly, for a set that *requires* being able to use your heal effectively, I would think they'd make the case time 0 secs).

And because you're a Brute, you'll be expected to take more punishment. As such, I recommend a primary set that helps mitigate the amount of damage you take... like Super Strength or Stone Melee.

Defense... has limited use when it comes to regen (unless you're going with Katana, which gives a good amount of melee def). The reason being that it's extremely difficult getting good amounts of defense in order to make any real difference. All efforts are best spent on recharge, where you can have your heals come back faster.
  14. So Fringe was on last night. I believe this was the episode that was supposed to air last week, but got pushed back because of friggen Baseball.

Anyway, great to see Peter is back... even if nobody recognizes him. I thought for sure Olivia would start to remember something, but I guess not. Definitely liking how they're approaching the subject. Nobody trusts him but he starts to win them over with his awesome science-fu.

It looks like we'll be getting time anomalies added to the mix-bag of problems they have on the show. I'm curious to see the various ways they present them.

We also had confirmation that it's somebody from the second universe who's in charge of the shapeshifters*. Walternate would be too easy of an answer. More than likely it's a new person... because I can't think of anyone who could fit the profile (although I think it would be awesome to see Alt-Astrid behind it. She seems like she has the ability to play the cold 'it needs to be done, so i'll do it' role).

On a side note: Did anyone else notice the splash screen for the show was the one usually used for episodes dedicated to the alternate universe? I wonder what that means... Maybe it's just because Peter is back and he's originally from the other universe.

*Well, kinda. She (The shapeshifter) pulled out a typewriter and started communicating with someone from another universe. It's pretty safe to assume it's the one we already know of considering they've used the typewriter method before.

In terms of general survivability? Obviously opinions will vary... I'd say it's pretty universally understood that Stone Armor (granite armor) and Will Power (IO's make them gods) occupy first and second place, respectively.
Third place and beyond... personal preferences play a bigger role. For me it's:

    3. Invuln
    4. SR
    5. Shield
    6. Elec Armor
    7. Regen

And these are all really close together. When built right, each set can be insanely awesome in it's own way. It might as well be a tie for third, honestly. lol.

Shortened short version: I only disagreed with a few of your absolutes and I agree Regen isn't perfect and gave some examples.

Also, with stone as your primary, how do you fare vs PPD? You should be pretty solid on them and they obliterate kat/regen and bs/regen. Plus you should be ok vs Knives and Malta who often give /sr and /shield trouble thanks to autohit damage and tohit buffs.

I think Cims are just a bigger problem for your build than some other enemies no matter what. Everyone has some holes.
lol, it's alright. I tend to ramble sometimes too. =)

Oddly enough, I did the Vig Alignment mission where you have to break Blast Furnace out of the Zig. Tons of PPD in there and I did pretty well. As I said earlier, it was at +4 difficulty. Those friggen drones were hard to hit, but a few accuracy inspirations solved that nicely.
  16. GavinRuneblade: Can I just say "You're right" and skip having to read all that? lol*

Seriously though, after leaving my Regen Brute on the shelf for 3 days or so to cool off, I decided to take it for another spin. Completed another speed ITF with significantly more ease (we had mostly melee type toons on this one and it was set to regular default instead of +2). I also solo'd several tip missions on +4 difficulty, which made me feel so much stronger.

Needless to say, my previous opinions can now be considered Null. I still believe it's best to be prepared for the worst, but atleast the flaws don't see so glaringly obvious.

*Seriously, try to be more succinct with your posts. I know I should have better reading comprehension... or patience... but I don't. And taking 20 paragraphs to say "Try again dood" does nothing but make me want to skip the post entirely.
  17. Time lapsed photography of airplanes seems logical enough to me. Especially because there are 3 airports near that area in New Orleans. Even more so... based on it's angle of decent... that actually looks like a plane coming in for a landing. And, classically, UFO sightings tell of these things moving in zigzags. You know, ways a normal aircraft couldn't possibly replicate.

Regardless, I was still intrigued by what you were doing to look into Brute Self-Empathy, after having been long disillusioned by it on Scrappers and Stalkers. AKA, you didn't suck that bad. Still debating 'tween either Stone or SS though, myself.
Thanks. This makes me feel a lot better. I was under the assumption it was at default difficulty. Come to think of it... you and I (Regenerating Rock) were the only melee toons on team.

If you do decide to level a /Regen Brute, I would definitely try for Super Strength. Stone Melee is fun, but Super Strength clearly wins out with Rage and Footstomp. The only reason I didn't roll mine as SS was I had just made an SS/DA brute a short time before that and wanted a bit of variety. It also fits better thematically...

Oh well. I guess I'll get off my soapbox now. lol.

Brute has a taunt aura and punchvoke. I would imagine it would be hard to avoid being sapped left right and centre.

    Thanks again.
Everyone has trouble with sappers. The best I can think of is to keep doing what you're doing. AS the first... then maybe placate the second to minimize the damage it does before you attack it.
  20. ClawsandEffect and GavinRuneblade:

Perhaps I was remembering the worst of situations more than the best. Honestly though, it's better to let them know about such things to prepare them. I am remembering specific things that happened to me and just because they don't match up with your experiences doesn't mean I'm completely wrong.

For example: ITF absolutely crushed my Regen build while I've been leveling it. It's a Stone Melee/Regen Brute and because Romans have particularly strong resistances to knockdown and stuns, I was on my face a LOT while fighting the regular mobs. Even when I was level 47 and had most of the IO build purchased and slotted (roughly 1.3 billion infl worth of inventions)... even with the very large amount of +recharge they gave, I often found myself praying I didn't have more than 3 LTs (or even a single boss) to fight at once or else I'd hit the floor pretty fast. Of course that was a speed run. Things were chaotic and I often fought enemies without the support of my teammates... but it was still incredibly frustrating.

Now, to balance that out with some goodness: I was soloing missions at +3 difficulty before that ITF. And doing it pretty easily too. I probably could have handled more.

From my experience, clicking 'skill' has very little to do with how well the set runs. Support and mitigation are the primary factors. When you're in over your head (even a little), and you have no support.. and your primary powerset mitigation does nothing... you're boned. There's nothing Regen can do to help you. The holes in between your reconstruction/DP/IH/MoG are just too great, even with a large amount of recharge from IOs.

Disclaimer: I do understand that there could be something I'm doing wrong. Perhaps my IO build sucks or maybe I am using my clicky tools wrong. But as I said before, I believe it's better to have all the information than just the good parts.
  21. I have yet to do Dark Armor all the way to 50, so I can't do any comparisons... however.. I have build a Regen scrapper (50) and a Regen brute (47).. so I'll offer my perspective.

Do *not* take Regen if you want to tank. I repeat, DO NOT take Regen if you want to tank.

Here's the thing about Regen as a set: It can only hand so much before you die instantly. It's sink or swim to the extreme. The difficulty level you can handle will vary depending on how your IOs are set up... obviously... but once you go even a little passed that...your face will hit the floor.

There's no holding on for survival at half health. Maybe if you hit MoG just in time you'll be able to pull out a few more seconds. But if you can't kill everything in the few seconds you get from it, you die. Guaranteed.

This is just what I've experienced, though. Once I get my brute to 50 and can get his build complete, I may tell a different story... but I somehow doubt it. The higher HP and minor resists from resilience don't make much of a difference. If brutes are supposed to be a combination of scrappers and tanks, Regen brutes are as close to a scrapper as a brute can get in terms of survivability.

That's not to say the set sucks. It can handle quite a bit, but when you're on an ITF... you'll be forced to pick off the run-away minions, while the tank holds of 20 enemies at once. And then a stray boss will inevitably show up, kill you and make you look like a chump. >_<
  22. Solo Reichman
    Solo Hamidon
    ???
    Profit
  23. I wholeheartedly support the idea of adding a color wheel. Or maybe just a red/green/blue color mixing system like we have with our chat bubbles. We need more specific control over what colors we pick. I'm so tired of picking out my costume pieces and coloring them... only to find that a certain swatch looks different on all of them. That's not an exaggeration either. Depending on the costume piece, a specific type of blue can range anywhere from blueish-green and a deep blue... I even used it on an aura and found it more purple than blue. Same swatches, all the way across.

You kind of have to ask yourself if you're laughing because something's *actually* funny, or if it's more pointing and laughing and going "OMG, he is SUCH an idiot, who let him out?" For me, it's the second, and I don't laugh because I actually feel *bad* for him making such a fool out of himself.
That's the thing though... I never really ask myself why I laugh. If it's funny... I just laugh. It doesn't matter why. That's why it's called entertainment. Obviously there are things that attempt to be humorous and are beyond me... or they are something I don't find funny. But I've honestly never laughed at something, took a step back and told myself to hate that kind of humor because I think it's stupid or below me in some way. I guess I'm weird like that.
  25. My Regen brute is now 47 and I bought most of his IO build.... I did an ITF on him and got crushed (and what's worse, there was an Invuln tank there making me look like a jackass). The focus was recharge and HP... I know it's not complete, but it looks like he's going to get crushed on all ITF runs simply because:

    A) He's a Stone Melee and Romans are particularly resistant to his knockdowns/stuns.
    B) Alone, even with made recharge and a higher HP max, Regen just isn't enough to keep him alive when facing anything more difficult than 3 minions.

Sure I can probably solo most regular missions at +4 difficulty... but I love my ITFs.

I've already spent quite a bit of money getting his IO's... I'm afraid I might have to retool so he can be more ITF friendly... but I just don't have the inf for it right now.
