Very true, my PSW Dom frequently bites the dust. One missed control, or too slow on the trigger and boom down I go. That's one reason I enjoy playing him.
I understand the power on paper is overpowered. I even understand it needs adjustment. I don't like the idea of being transformed into the blaster version of the power. There has to be a better way. -
Mass hypnosis is also an effective aggro killer. I've found it useful on my mind/energy to help with titghtly packed groups. Mass hypno one group, aggro the other and deal with them. Then go get the other group.
Nice solo or on 8 man teams for that reason..if everyone understands the strategy. -

If a nerf to PSW means a buff to the rest of /psi I'm all for it.
However, it depends of course on how much of a buff the rest of /psi gets.
Couldn't care less about the rest of the other sets. They'll probably get buffs/nerfs as needed.
[/ QUOTE ]
How exactly is buffing the rest of /psi going to remotely come close to making up for a PSW nerf?
Even if you doubled the dmg of dart, mental blast, tk thrust, mind probe, subdue, psi scream and psi lance, PSW would still be better then them combined. It hits more targets, recharges faster and has a superior DPA than those attacks. It also complements the melee control sets of fire and ice like no other power.
You seriously need to think about what you're saying.
[/ QUOTE ]
You've pointed out the problem right there.
[/ QUOTE ]
So its fair that villians lose their equivalent of a Fire/Kin controller. Because thats what it will amount to. And let me tell you I have a level 26 Psi/Energy blaster. Please go and read the blaster forum. Most blasters are NOT satisfied with how the Psi blast set works, its considered subpar aoe damage. -
It depends, if its healthy and constructive correction I love it. If the person appears to be rude or spiteful I do take offense. However, that's because of the tone of the message and not the actual grammar mistake.

How well would an Earth/Ice work? I have one and while he is ok,I am thinking of deleting her since I am not feeling the /Ice.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd probably wait until after the upcoming Dom buffs before deleting anything; you might find it more fun afterwards.
Earth/Ice does suffer from a lack of synergy though, since several of Earth's powers aren't affected by Ice's Power Boost.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd say Earth/Ice synergy is in the stacking slows from ICE meshing will with Earth's solid Aoe Controls. Nothing is getting away from an Earth/Ice. Again it would probably do well on teams not so sure how well it would solo. -
any of the dom primaries with /fire or /electric will do.
For PVE I'd go with Plant/Fire or Earth/Fire hands down. If you go plant do not skip seeds of confusion at lvl 8.
If you're going to pvp then Mind/Fire or Mind/Electric. -
It sounds like you enjoy lots and lots of damage, then Earth/Fire might be nice for you to try. Heck or just go Fire/Fire ore Fire/Electric.
Earth/Ice, from what I've seen, is pretty damned solid control all the way around, but not a super high damage build. I don't know if there are any seasoned Earth/Ice Doms reading this trhead. Hopefully there are and maybe they can enlighten us more. -
Plant/Fire and Plant/Electric could be great fun with your Brute. However, if she doesn't like moving all that much, I would think a nice /Pain or /Dark Corruptor would be more her cup of tea.

RiverOcean,
On the other hand, once it makes it to the test server, 99% of the time it goes live. That is because the test server is to find defects/bugs and not intended to try theories. It usually takes a monumental game-breaking whoopsie for the patch to NOT go from test to live, once it hits test. I'm not saying they wont tweak it, I'm just saying once you see it on test in COX, its gonna hit live. Usually.

/QA in a less interesting job then COX

Scaling Assassin strike for Stalkers while it looked good on paper, turned out to be terribly broken and never made it live. It took awhile and lots of testing before the current stalker changes made it live. Also if I recall correctly the first proposed changes to Defiance, didn't make it on the first dry run either. We also don't know what else is included in Castles changes, there may be a wild card in this set of buffs.
These changes are "proposed" until its actually in a patch going to the live server, all bets are off. -

I'm looking to level a dom above 20 and would like advice on secondary.
Previous attempts include fire/fire, fire/thorns, ice/nrg, mind/ice, mind/thorns and grav/thorns.
Thankful for any help in selecting a secondary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Earth/Fire, Eerth/Electric for a damage focused build. Earth/Psi and Earth/Thorns for a debuffnng dom. And Earth/Ice for stacking slows and -recharge.
Earth works with pretty much any of the assault sets, just depends on what you want to do. -

Nope. they are not nerfing perma doms. Infact, they are getting a slight buff, as far as I know only the people who used double-tripple stacked dom will suffer (even if only a tiny bit.) And it won't matter cause now non perma doms will be getting as much damage as a perma dom would.
[/ QUOTE ]
We do have to Caveat that these proposed changes ae not guaranteed to go live. They have to be tested first. Something may occur in the testing environment that could grind this to a halt. These changes haven't been approved to go live, only for testing! -

So the million dollar question:
Will a huge buff to damage sweep aside the PToD issue?
How much damage is enough damage for Dominators to make a fair contribution in an AV fight?
[/ QUOTE ]
This is something I'm fence sitting one myself. However, since Castle has publicly posted his vision is one of Doms being an AT consisting two Primary's (Control + Damage), it's conceivable Dom's damage may be considerable contribution. I'm thinking of factoring in things like -DEF, immobilizes, and sleeps, which are useful in some AV/EB encounters.
I'd really like some of the sets looked at to add a little more debuffing/buffing capability. For examples, I'd like to see /Thorns have at least one power with -regen in it (similar to Widows's Claws) and possibly sneaking "mind link" in as a choice in /Psi. Or at the very least give doms higher values in buffing powers like the leadership pool. -

Yeah, I was thinking I could transfer some of my influence from blueside to red, cause im not exactly the richest villain. Is there a way to do that? (sorry if thats a little nooby to ask, but I just rejoined about a month ago after a 3 year break, and i'm just barely getting used to CoV) Will there be people willing to do that? or is that against the rules or something?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. You can try to find someone you trust who has the equivalent amount you need redside. Who'd be willing to give your villain the funds. In return for you giving them the same amount to one of his heroes. That's risky though..make sure if you go that route its someone you trust. -
The devs would be foolish to post exact examples of what they consider exploitative or not. Simply because people will use that to skirt as close to edge as they can without getting caught. Honestly, I don't think you're ever going to get a concrete answer on that.
I would say it would probably be best to avoid any blatant MA farming if you aren't willing to risk possible consequences. If you want to farm then farm. But just realize that you run the risk of getting caught. If that risk makes you uneasy, then maybe farming isn't for you and just shouldn't do it.
Lastly, you could always just write customer service and have them look at an arc you've written. If you're worried you may have innocently created a farm without meaning to. If you weren't trying to do anything you shouldn't be..you have nothing to worry about. -
Powers I want:
Shrinking (Defense Set)
Duplication (Master Mind Set)
Insect Control (Controller/Dom Set)
Water Blast (Blaster Set)
Possession! (Controller Set) -

I sometimes feel the same should be done in this case: everyone that explicitly asks for a hard cap defined by the devs should get one applied to them and them alone. Everyone else that can deal with reasonable judgement-defined limits should operate under those instead. It would seem to me this explicitly falls under the general principle of givng players what they want, within the limits of the game design. The people that want hard limits get them. The people that are ok with soft limits gets those instead.
That certainly satisfies every game-balance design rule I can think of.
[/ QUOTE ]
I actually agree with that. Except I can guarantee those who get the hard cap will interpret it as being "punished" for asking/challenging the GM's and we'd be right back where we started. I never assume people will be reasonable, 10-years of customer service work has taught me quite the opposite. -
I ate a bad Kheldian Wrap once, had indigestion for a weak!
-
Poison, Pain or Dark are probably the best secondary's to go petless with. I second that you might want to go Thugs instead of Ninja's.
But honestly if the reason for doing this is to function as a support toon and not for concept, why not just roll a rad/rad corrupter? -
I played the Fusionette TF (solo I might ad), on lvl 10 blaster. Fantastic, I highly recommend it to the OP.

Sadly, "exploit farming" and "farming" as terms seem to have collided (and I've been trying not to do it myself, but I see I slipped up a couple of times up there). Yes, I'm fully in favor of people farming if they want, but the exploits will get your arc pulled if they're there.
And I do believe we have heard from Posi, before I14 was even released (see Barata's post above), plus the Release notes staying exploit arcs will be pulled.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with you 100% and you're right Positron has spoken about the sate of the game, and it looks like MA is win for CoX. Again, I don't farm, and I think if somethings ruled an exploit, then it should be fixed. Which from all appearances IS happening. -
This argument is kind of old..and incredibly silly. However, if you slow down and think about it, farmers or farming, isn't specifically mentioned in the EULA. And so far the only missions that have been removed or altered have been those that took advantage of exploits, which is in the EULA.
Also, farmers have their place in the game too, and probably do wonders for CoH's marketing and growth stats. They have multiple accounts, play long hours, and form large teams.
Last, I really dislike the use of the term "Devs" the way its used on the boards. A "dev" is a Developer meaning he or she writes code, they don't usually deal with company policy. If we do hear about this issue it will be from the lead designer Positron, or the current Community Lead. And it will probably be a general notification. -
I was actually surprised that mission computers weren't how MA arcs were accessed.
This is a really great suggestion, I hope someone who can do something about it sees it. -
It's easy..I in fact have done it. Set a level 54 boss to spawn as a non-required objective. You can also set them to spawn when the missions true objective is completed. I like to set them to spawn in the front so the player don't even notice its occurred. The mission just ends as normal.
This gives you more creative freedom in what type of boss your end bosses will be. -
Just ran a friends mission where he did pretty much everything in the OP's list. I would like to add, please limit the use of glowie-hunting. Just because a map can have 36 objects to find, doesn't mean you should place 36 objects to find!
Also, I tend to not give my minions armor sets. I find pairing a melee oriented NPC with ranged set, set at standard (or vice-versa), works great. The NPC tends to stick with the primary and rarely, if all uses the sedondary. -

You guys briefly touched on another possibility that I would like to bring back up. Alot of people do have max/min characters. I have a brute that walks through normal content with minimal effort on relentless....
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd have to agree here. Sure there are p"player-killer" and egoist GM's out there. But also some people are using the MA as a way to create harder challenges for themselves than the game currently offers. I also say, read the arc description very carefully, that will usually tell what you're in for, in most cases.
