The night has come and gone and no dev post which leads me to two conclusions.

Our leg was being pulled, considering the source of the clue. The other possibility is that it simply meant the devs would be more communicative through the forums in 2011 than they were last year.

  3. Heh, I decided to stay home this time. Had to turn down a few parties but I didn't want to deal with Chicagoan drivers during midnight. Now I'm glad I did! A nice quiet evening, but that may just be the antisocial me talking.

Also, there were more clues, but my router keeps giving me DNS problems and I got mapserved at one point.
  4. In a splendid show of still connecting to the playerbase, the devs were in game during New Year's Eve around 1am Central. SexyJay was on Virtue, War Witch was somewhere, Synapse was on Guardian, and Positron was on Freedom that I know of. I will be posting some pictures in a bit of the clues SexyJay dropped off in Virtue.

    Edit: Adding the pictures!

    : Yak mounts!

: Fire based... something? Maybe it's flaming balls and reports!

: Moon zone! Or a Jupiter zone!

: Yet another moon based clue!

: Will Brutes finally get their Icy fury cravings?

: Just a general comment on things to come!

: That there's going to be a post later tonight? Will any dev be sober enough to write a legible post?

I thought I was the only one! I don't know, for me, for whatever reason, pairing elemental/thematic power sets seems a bit boring. I prefer coming up with concepts that are more broad. The only exception to this rule is my Broadsword/Shield Scrapper (yay for Praetoria! My characters never have to touch Paragon City now) and even then, she'll be going either Dark or Soul Mastery when she gets there simply because her concept is a Shadow Knight (think Everquest).

As far as Origins, Magic is by far my most preferred. In over 50 characters created, at least 40 have been magic. And I love Dominators, I had a Mind/Energy, have a Fire/Elec, an Ice/Psi, a Grav/Ice, and an assortment of lowbies that never got past level 10 before the Dom changes.

Because my characters' concepts calls for a Martial Arts Stalker, or a Necromancy Mastermind, or an Energy Assault Dominator, or a Sonic Blast Corruptor, etc. Some people don't crunch numbers, some people don't care about efficiency, some just want to bring the characters that they imagine to life.

The game only treats that level 54 as being +4 to my level 50 because it is told to do so. To be even more blunt, 54 minus 50 is only 4 because we say so. Level shifting is simply going to alter that math. When you are running a +1 level shift, 54 minus 50 will be 3. Because the game says so. It won't *make you* a level 51. It will make +4s use the +3 row in the combat modifier tables. Nothing else changes. Things like side kicking, level pacts, and all that other stuff won't be affected because it won't even know its happening. You will still be level 50. The target will still be 54. The purple patch will be using the +3 values. That's it. Its an offset in the combat modifiers table that affects nothing else besides the combat modifiers table. There's no reason for it to do anything else.
I'm not entirely sure I like the sound of that. If I'm understanding you correctly, it means that the level shifts will not affect a Mastermind's pets keeping them at 48, 49, and 50 for their respective tiers. Making their scaling problem even worse. First the entirety of global bonuses from IO sets ignoring pets (global bonuses, I realize there are 5-6 unique pet IOs). Then making them fight level 54 mobs, effectively reducing the tier 1s to nothing more than cannon fodder and bodyguard mode uses.
  8. I love my Necro/TA currently at level 43 and climbing. I don't remember much of those hazy pre-Oil Slick Arrow days, but now, she's awesome fun melting spawns.
  9. I too haven't encountered that either. Hell, even when I form my own PuG Apex/Tin Mage TFs, I don't mention the Alpha slot and have only had one person join without it. He even pointed it out to me by asking if he needed the alpha slot, and I told him yes and a boost. His response? "Oh ok, didn't know. Let me bring my other char". Twice I've been on Apex TFs where there was one person without a boost. The first time, it was a Mastermind, so it was no big deal, their pets still spawn at 50 and their secondary is buff/debuff. The other time though, it was a Tanker. Both times we succeeded.

I love that mission as well. All sorts of awesome.

I specially love it how fire from one of the buildings you just bombed spreads to the street and Desdemona with her PPD fodder are on one side of the fire line and you're on the other.

I do believe that the Freedom Phalanx opposes Tyrant. So you're right, even normal Villains are against him.

Well during the level 20-30 Villain Morality mission, it's stated that the only reason her father turned away from his evil ways to do good was because Silent Blade convinced him to change.

Well, that's the beauty of it! I don't have to, since they support Arachnos, and Arachnos supports the resistance making them Arachnos the good guys! Since Arachnos are the good guys, and the Freedon Phalanx oppose them, the Freedom Phalanx are evil.
  14. I always knew some of my villains were really the good guys. After all, some of my villains support Arachnos, and Arachnos supports the Resistance, making them the good guys and down the link, making my villains the good guys.

And the best part is that your actions eventually lead the heroic Silent Blade into villainy. Now I haven't done tip/morality missions between 30-49 but at 50 some of your tip missions are to defeat Silent Blade who's also being chased by Longbow so that's why I assume she fell to the dark side due to seeing the forces of good unable to prevent her father's death.
  16. I had a Ninja/Traps once, but that was when Poison Trap could be transformed into a mini nuke with procs. Since they changed Poison Trap I really haven't played him so much, so there's not a whole lot of advice I can give. I'd try to fit in Maneuvers somewhere to stack with your Ninja's inherent Defense and Force Field Generator.

Seems a shame to wipe that out so quickly with the Incarnate System. For content that requires all 7 slots alpha to omega, then ok, perhaps that's acceptable, but we have to be careful not to be like WoW and lock all important story narratives/conclusions away from people who don't raid (or Incarnate).
Again, it's simply not true. On one of my successful attempts Apex TFs, a person had disconnected so we were down to 7, and at all points in the fight, we had two people (generally speaking, different team members) dead. So at all points in the fight, we were fighting with an effective 5 people doing damage/debuffing. Sure it was slow, but it's to be expected if you're taking that fight with less than a full team. I've also done the Tin Mage TF with 7 people. Although that's not such a big deal because that TF is more of the same as the old stuff.
  18. I've been on several PUG ITFs with Masterminds and without Masterminds without any discernible difference in difficulty. Lately though, the sound strategy of separating Romulus from his Nictii friends has gone out the window and everytime I did it, the team just bum rushed Romulus, always succeeding.
  19. Thanks, I guessed that would be the case but I wanted to be absolutely positive. Since the set provides global recharge it'll fit nicely into my build. Oil Slick Arrow cannot come back quickly enough .
  20. So my Necro/TA is nearing 50 when I start thinking about IOing out my characters (I've deleted a few high 30s-low 40s toon so I generally wait until the high 40s to IO out my characters). I'm wondering, if I slot say, the Res Aura from Expedient Reinforcements into my ghost, will my pets always have that aura active, or only when the ghost is up?
  21. Dear Santa,

First of all, I'm sorry for being late. But perhaps this can still come true for an aspiring... doer of things? So first on the things I wish is Steelclaw's ideas. They're awesome and for the children. Secondly, a villain strike force to finally close to 30-35 gap that's been glaring at us from the moment CoV went live. Thirdly... or you know, perhaps I should reorder them. Firstly is this new thing, proliferate Illusion Control to Dominators. Secondly is that children stuff, yes, stuff for the children is good. And thirdly... you know what, it's not working out. Firstly is Illusion Control to Dominators, that's important. Secondly though, I've moved up that level 30-35 Strike Force request, and thirdly all that children stuff, I mean, they are delicious when cooked well.
  22. On the wishlist subject, how about finally filling that SF gap between levels 30-35? Heroes don't need new content just because you gave villains content, specially when they already have equivalent content to the new one for villains. Make it be Wretch's SF, and then give a new badge/accolade for doing Silver Mantis, Wretch, Ice Mistral, and Barracuda's SFs!

I know I'm going off topic here, but I do remember a tank player bashing Dual Blades. The bashing was something along the lines of calling it useless or a waste of dev resources due to it being unpopular among tankers. I'm not sure if it was Johnny or another tank player, but I wish I had saved that post somewhere. I've never leaned towards generalizing players but I may have to make an exception for tank players.
  24. Perhaps I should have been clearer. Yes, I do believe that the toughest part of the LRSF is harder than the toughest part of the new TFs. Not as a whole, no.
